Biography:
Valentina was born in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala, to two extremely happy parents. She was their only child, since her mother and father had been trying for a baby for many years. They called her their “niña milagros”, their miracle child. The couple lived with their baby in Guatemala for two years, before deciding to migrate north to the United States, hoping to secure the best life possible for Val.

They decided on the town of Havelock, in North Carolina, because it was closer to the ocean, like their home town. The family was happy; Mr. Valdez found good work in a shipyard, while Mrs. Valdez stayed at home to take care of Valentina. Strange things began happening around the child, though, and without Mr. Valdez around all too often, her mother was scared and confused. Finally, one day, her father explained to his wife that he was a wizard, and that little Valentina was simply a young witch with variable power. At first her mother fainted, but when she came to, there was a lot of yelling in Spanish and smacking of her father. Finally after she calmed down, Mr. Valdez explained to his wife about Salem Institute of Magic in Boston, and Mrs. Valdez somberly agreed that Valentina should be sent there, if she got the letter of acceptance.

Growing up around Spanish-speaking parents led Val to know Spanish just as well as she knew English. Her parents only spoke broken English, and their native tongue was the only one used in the household. Only when Val is angered or excited would she speak Spanish outside of her home. Once she was old enough to realize that she was in America, and where she came from, it prided her to know she was from Guatemala, and she was grateful that her parents had came so far just for her sake. She was very close to her parents, moreso to her mother, since they spent nearly every moment together. She missed her papa often, but he called her on his breaks at work. She led a happy childhood.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
Please reply to the Sample Roleplay below.

Val never really minded working with a partner, though sometimes she butted heads with someone if they were as forward as she was. Nevertheless, she figured the goal of working with a partner was to get a good grade. Not to make friends, or to goof off and let one person do all the work for you. Nope, she only pursued a good grade. Nothing more, nothing less.

Simon was a foreign being to her. She had known of his existence, but had never really spoken to him. That was, until they were partnered up for the assignment. Valentina found Muggle History to be quite fascinating, especially America's history.

As they sat, Simon leafing through a book, Val trying to balance a quill on her fingertip, the silence of the room felt like a comforting blanket. Suddenly, though, it was broken.

"How about I write the essay and stuff? You can just put your name on it. Sound good?"

The quill that was perched on her finger clattered onto the desktop as she jumped slightly.

"Oh. What. No." She gave him a look of pure confusion. "If you'd like, you can write a draft, and then I can read over it and we can discuss any flaws I find in your paper. Then I would put my name on it and turn it in. I'm sorry... Simon? But I don't know you well enough to stake my grade on your academia skills." She said all this with a bright, kind tone, nothing paupus or prude about her demanor.

Val then reached forward and grabbed a particularly thick volume, blowing some dust off the cover before she flipped it open, the spine crackling slightly. She pushed invisible glasses up the bridge of her nose and began reading, looking adorably studious as she fell into complete, concentrated silence.
