The Life Line - A double line on both palms

He had been three when he had shown his father for the first time that he was a proper Devell son. The hissing had come out of from between his parted lips unexpectedly, in a moment of anger and frustration at his younger brother. Abraxos had never asked for more siblings and the thing just cried all the time. He had walked up to the crib and even though he was still much too short to peer inside, he opened his mouth to shout but instead his tongue moved strangely around his mouth and what he had intended to say didn't sound like words at all.

Fortunately for Abraxos his father heard and explained everything. He was special and had the rare privilege of being able to communicate with snakes. It hadn't really made sense to the small boy that the sound came out while trying to yell at his brother, but the little monster could be so very like a snake sometimes.

None of it mattered because for a short period of time Abraxos was his father's favourite person in the world, carrying on the Devell legacy.

It was short-lived, however, because Abraxos was not very good at much else. He was almost eight before any real sign of magic emerged in him. He had even overheard whispered conversations between his mother and father, his father sounding hopeful but unsure at the same time; saying that Abraxos
couldn't be a Squib because he could speak Parseltongue.

If it weren't for his ability, Abraxos was convinced his father would have shipped him off to live with the Muggles.

The Heart Line - Broken

Abraxos was not good with people. Especially when they were his peers. One of his favourite things to do, the more words he learned in the language, was to speak to other children in Parseltongue. He thought it was the funniest thing in the world when they would scurry away from him. Some of them didn't get away from him as fast as they could, some of them just stared at him. Abraxos always took this to mean they were impressed or even jealous of what he could do.

It didn't occur to him that their stares might just be blank as a result of not actually knowing what Abraxos was doing to them.

One of his favourite people to hiss at was a dark-haired girl he never seemed able to avoid for very long. Whether because their parents organized some event he had to see her at or because they worked at the same place and the two of them had to be in the same daycare, she always seemed to find him. He liked to call her Lily because he knew that wasn't her real name and he thought it bothered her.

The first time he had hissed at her had been a hysterical moment for him, he'd actually toppled over from all his laughing; something that he'd never done before.

If he
had to, she was one of the only people whose presence he could tolerate for very long. He didn't need friends anyway.

The Head Line - Very long, extending across the entire palm

Ambition and determination are two traits that Abraxos prizes most in himself. He knows to get what he wants he need only set his mind to it and eventually things will work in his favour. He'll never take something at face value, if it's not the way he wants it. When he wants an answer to be 'yes', the word 'no' does not exist in his vocabulary.

Ambition is something he developed after watching his father for years. Though Abraxos is the eldest son in his family and possesses the Parselmouth trait that his family has come to expect of their first-born sons, his father barely sees him as someone appropriate to lead the Devell family in the future. He is not as magically talented as his father would like and the man could see past that if Abraxos perhaps exhibited some sort of athletic trait as well, but he never has.

Abraxos plans to spend his life proving to his father that he deserves the title of Head of the family one day, if that's how long it takes. He'll never allow one of his brothers to outshine him either intellectually or athletically.

Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: I don't want myself so you guys can sort him where you feel he'd fit best.

Personality: Glacial is probably the best way to describe Abraxos. Despite not having a talent for any one particular thing, he believes he is more clever and more gifted than his peers. He does not wish to associate with anyone he believes beneath him so making friends takes the other person a lot of time and dedication, if they wish to see beneath all his layers of frost. He does hold a deep respect for adults; namely because it is clear to him that he can learn from them. He also has learned from experience from his father what can happen if he is discourteous to them.

Appearance: Short for his age and a bit on the thin side, Abraxos has blonde hair and grey eyes that are frequently narrowed in disgust. Even for eleven, Abraxos believes that someone's image is something to be appreciated and he grooms himself much more frequently than a young boy should.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.

Potions was one of Abraxos's favorite classes. Unlike Charms and Transfiguration and Conjuring and Summoning, he didn't always have to use his usually uncooperative wand to make magic. Nope, as long as he measured precisely, cut correctly and counted the right amount of stirs his potions came out perfectly - most of the time. He was still learning after all. Even the most talented wizards had to be bad at some things when they were just starting out and so they had practised when they had needed to improve.

Which is exactly what the young man intended to do today. While most of the other students his age opted to play outside, Abraxos was choosing to improve his scholastics. Although he
did want to get outside and practise his flying some more as well. That, however, would be for another day. Perhaps a rainy one so the wet and cold would drive most students inside. That way there would be less of a chance of someone seeing how often he crashed.

To rid his mind of the disappointment of how much he failed at flying, he clomped his feet harder against the stone floor, the echoing creating a sort of drum beat against the rough-hewn walls. Perhaps as he made his way down to the correct classroom he could create his very own song...

"H-h-hello?"

His chorus ended abruptly, the voice of a girl reaching his ears. His eyebrows furrowed, his eyes thinning to small slits. He didn't know someone else was going to be down here as well. He wanted to brew potions on his own.

Based on her stuttering, she might be scared. Maybe he could help with that and scare her off. Then he'd have the dungeons to himself!

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

Wasn't that the perfect opening for him. Abraxos stopped clomping and continued forward very lightly on the very tips of his shoes. The girl wasn't far in front of him, but he made his way as quickly as he could, just in case she happened to turn around.

When he felt he was close enough that his voice would frighten her, Abraxos rasped out in Parseltongue,
"There's something much worse here than Emma Birch."
