Biography

Accius thought about his family in amusement. He often found subjects funny that others would not dare talk about. His parents had taken great joy in reiterating they come from the house of Slytherin and in which there were two things that came with the name Deschain. Neither of them happened to be creditable in Accius’ eyes. The first was the Slytherin code of conduct...with all the trimmings. The second was the wealth and whilst it is true that Accius never had to suffer the toils of poverty, he wishes he did. He was not one to show off his assets, for he personally did not care for them. He wasn't ungrateful; he just disagreed with how his father would walk around, smug smile on his face, looking down at the people who had less money....

Accius never really saw eye to eye with his family. His father would barely recognise his existence, even on the rare occasion that his father would actually come home! His mother shared her husbands mentality. The love that a mother should have for a son seemed to have been used on Accius’ older brother Arvernus. Even his brothers’ name was better for goodness sake! He would remember the song that his mother used to sing to him as a child, the song that never lasted long enough... As for his brother, something happened a couple of years ago that caused all this to happen. His brother had done something that would see aurors turning up at the house on a regular occasion. Even though he would turn up for a spot of tea and the leave again, his parents would tell the aurors that they still have no idea of his whereabouts and would convince Accius to do likewise.

In truth, Accius was a disgrace to the family. He showed no enthusiasm towards his parents vial conversations about muggles and the slavery that should be invoked. He infact seemingly didn't share many traits with his family. Under his fathers house he wouldn't cause much protest to the conversations and turned a blind eye towards other activities that probably weren't legal. Accius would do this in complete solace knowing that his parents would inevitably be away for an elongated period of time before they came back from "work"...whatever that may be.

Personality

Accius comes across as quite abrasive to those who don't know him and has little care for other people though he remains loyal to his closest friends. He has quite a deadpan and dark style of humour which often causes offense by accident. Accius deems it unnecessary to talk for long periods of time, as well as engage in idle conversation. His emotions are stretched to such extremities that it is almost impossible to predict what erratic behaviour he will display. However, he does take solace in quite surroundings, particularly at night. Though he puts up with academia, his competitiveness really shines during quidditch where he plays unto laws of his own to make as a beater, making sure the opposition seeker and chasers remain out of the game.

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY

“Oh, come now!"

Astrid Bixby’s voice carried down the corridor, the tall blonde girl not far behind. Her interviewee – or victim, depending on perspective – turned a corner and she frowned. They were always so elusive when she needed them. Sure, they would talk as if there was no tomorrow during class, but once she actually needed them to say something; they were nowhere to be found. Gryffindors.

Flustered, Astrid stopped in the middle of the corridor and stared, her parchment hanging limply from her hand. She was a good reporter, really, and she always did her best to make sure that everything she wrote was accurate. She glanced down to the quill, eyeing it with disdain. It wasn’t her fault if her quill misquoted. How was she supposed to know? It made for interesting articles, at least, and if she had misquoted the Head Boy last term as saying he had a love for stuffed animals, then that gave him personality. Astrid sighed.

A pout formed on her lips as she turned away, discouraged. The corridor was mercifully empty, though the doors to The Spellbound – the school newspaper – were ominously closed. Corbridge was a mercifully sweet editor, but Astrid was terrified of disappointing her all the same. She hadto come back with quotes.
Her eyes, blue, trailed her surroundings before choosing a new path, and she turned down a new corridor. A figure was ahead, and her eyes lit up, an impossibly rosy smile blossoming across her lips.

“Hey!” Astrid called, her voice light and singsong. She trotted to catch the person, her shoes clicking on the stone floor. “Wait up! It’s for the paper!” Her legs aided her admittedly poor running, and Astrid gasped as she came closer. “What do you think about serving frog legs at lunch? Some say it’s a delicacy, but others think it’s plain gross.”

ROLEPLAY RESPONSE

Between potions class and divination, Accius found himself rapidly getting sick of school. He didn’t like how everybody wanted to talk about such meaningless topics of conversation, who seriously cares about what some third year Ravenclaw boy did in the forest last summer?! The hierarchy of school annoyed him too. This whole business between Slytherin and Gryffindor was just pathetic…much like the views of his family. He didn’t like how some of the elder Hufflepuff girls seemed just a dense as the day they stepped inside of Hogwarts.

He left the wall outside the main hall in which he was leaning on, books in hand, and reflected upon these thoughts. Maybe he was being too harsh to judge such a place on the third day after summer. He just really wanted to go back to the dormitories in peace and not-

“Hey!” came a voice from behind him. He didn’t recognise the voice but in sheer shock of being shouted out for attention Accius looked behind him to see who it was that – “Wait up! It’s for the paper!”. His heart sank, clearly his peace was soon to be disturbed and it seems making eye contact with people suggests that you want to talk to them. No one else was around him and the girl had rapidly gained ground on him.

Knowing that social convention dictates that he now has to talk to her out of good grace and manners though freewill suggests he could bolt off at any time if he wanted to. He wasn’t sure why but he felt compelled to stay and answer the question. Not out of manners, the question was ridiculous, but out of hope that if he answered this one question…he would never have to answer another one again.

He turned to the girl and allowed her to ask her question, not that he had much choice, her talkative nature easily overshadowed that of Accius’. Keeping a straight face and showing no emotions he spoke.

“Some families would be lucky if they had a roof over their head and food on the table, regardless of what food that might be and I think people should stop believing they are above such matters and accept that until something like that happens to them, they can enjoy living like royalty to which people seemed to have been made accustomed to…..” and with that he walked back to the dormitories, not utter a single word all the way back until he collapsed on his bed.

There was something seriously wrong with him….and Accius Deschain knew that…..but he didn’t know how to fix it.
