CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character name: Marie Anne Comtois

Previous and/or Current Character(s) if applicable: Creon Ageptus, Adelaide Beauchene.

Character age: 21

Character education: Beauxbatons Academy of Magic; Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry

Strength and weaknesses (details please): She is proficient in Transfiguration, a trait she shares with her grandmother. She is less proficient in charms, the skill set favored by her father and deceased grandfather.

Physical description: She has blonde hair and high, aristocratic cheek bones. Her lips are full, and her eyes are piercing. As a person who had a brief stint as a model, she is rather tall; now fully grown, she stands at nearly 5'11.

Personality (nice, rude, funny etc. Paragraph please.): Her personality has fluctuated based on her situation, and as with all teens was in flux during her Hogwarts years. Nonetheless, despite a few ups and downs she has matured into a kind and considerate person who, due to her background, sometimes simply fails to factor in what others may go through. This does not mean she doesn't try, nor that she is lacking in empathy; merely that it is hard at times for her understand someone's point of view. Overall, however, she is always willing to give someone a second chance.

Hopes and dreams. Why are you teaching at Hogwarts?: Marie has come back to Hogwarts because she hopes to aid in the process of learning. It is her desire to smooth the path for her students, and to allow them to be the best versions of themselves.

Biography (500 words minimum. There is never such a thing as too much.):
Marie was born in France to her father and mother, who were not married. This caused social friction that eventually she overcame with the aid of her family; few out side of her family know of her illegitimacy. She spent the first years of her magical education at the prestigious Beauxbatons Academy of Magic in France, until her fourth year when at the desire of her father (an heir to a Wizengamot seat) she was transferred to Hogwarts and later sorted into Slytherin.  With only a year before her OWLs, Marie studied vigorously and managed to get Os in several subjects, with the exception of charms (in which she received an E), Divination (in which she received an A) and Potions, in which she received an E. Though this was not what had desired, she took the results in stride.
Marie got on well with her classmates, and was somewhat of a wallflower despite being part of the pureblood upper class of the school. Thus, she had a close circle of friends and a wider circle of acquaintances. Her sixth and seventh year were more or less spent in a similar pattern, with the exception that she managed to raise her NEWT grade in charms to an O at the cost of outright dropping divination. In the interim of her departure from Hogwarts and what would have been the succeeding school year, she applied for and got accepted to a job as a policy maker in training with Muggle Worthy Excuses Committee in the DMLE.
Since then she has worked at her job at the Ministry, but also gained prominence as a writer due to co-authoring and helping publish her father’s notes on alchemy in German. In addition to this, she has appeared a few times in Witch Weekly.

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY
(Please respond to to this in third person past tense. Do not write the other characters' reactions. Only your own.)

It was the largest office in Hogwarts and, perhaps to students and newcomers, the most intimidating. The shelves were filled with various odds and ends, with a place of honor for the Sorting Hat, and the walls held all the portraits of past Headmasters and Headmistresses.

In the middle of the room sat a large desk. Everything was in order, for the current occupant had always despised a messy desk. It was the sign of a messy mind, and she had always favored neatness.

A clock sat on the desk, which currently showed the time to be 2:05. The meeting was supposed to begin at 2:00 precisely.

Along with order, Anneka valued punctuality. She was a very busy woman these days. Even during the summer, she had a number of matters to attend to. Interviewing and hiring staff was only of those matters. The newest potential member of her staff wasn't making a good impression.

She paced the room, black heels clicking against the stone floor. When the door finally opened, Anneka turned, her expression reminiscent of a Russian winter. "You are late."

Explain yourself was what her face said.

Roleplay Response:

Marie nodded, her jaw set and her face rigid as she sat down. In her arms were notes and plans for the coming term. Slowly, she set the notes down, and looked into the headmistresses face. Her eyes were kind and apologetic.

After a moment, she pulled out a lesson plan and presented it to the headmistress for review. After a minute, she began to speak; her French accent was clear.

“I am sorry, Madam” said Marie “It will not happen again. I had trouble as a lesson plan had escaped me.”

Then she began to unfurl more of her notes and lesson plans; her demeanor seemed stoic yet determined. Her face seemed to have composed itself into a careful neutrality. Her hair seemed carefully made, as though she had wished to convey a dual sense of professionalism and approachability. In contrast to most pictures of her that may have been published by Wizarding fashion magazines in Britain and France, today she wore no make up and had opted to forego lipstick.

These were subtle changes, but changes clearly meant to convey that she was willing to adapt to a new mindset and a new environment. To convey, indeed, that she was a woman that actually had worked at the Ministry of Magic for over five years in various capacities and had expertise in policy on magical accidents and catastrophes.

Her eyes were calm as she looked at her perspective employer, and said "Ma'am, I would just like to state before we begin that should you hire me, I look forward to a productive working relationship"

She has also been active academically speaking; she has published the occasional thesis or argumentation on the pros and cons of Transfiguration theory.

She is a varied person, and has been active in the social scene of pureblood society as well as her other hobbies. She gained an inheritance of three homes from her father, and has used them both for comfort but also to host charity events in the name of meaningful causes. As a result of her varied life, she has often found herself going back and forth all over the globe. Thus, it could be said that though she is young, she has already lived an extensive life for her age.

In the past year, she visited the magical governments of North Vietnam and Laos on a goodwill mission, and received mild criticism in France for the event. Despite receiving a series of angry letters, and a light reprimand from her grandmother's side of the family, she maintains this was a good thing. In her view, all cooperation and dialogue is positive.

Now it is her hope to bring the wealth of her experiences back into the classroom, and to aid the students of Hogwarts in achieving their monetary, emotional, psychological and cognitive needs.

Creon Ageptus. Marie Comtois

Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Adelaide was born in 1893 and grew up in pre war France. Her father was a high ranking official in the French Ministry, and her mother, Penelope, was a  socialite and home maker who was born in Belgium. They lived in a period of abundance for the French nation; with the muggles having colonized much of Asia and Africa, it was a time of relative harmony between the two civilizations. As a mark of good will, Adelaide was even allowed on a trip to Indochine and French Algeria when she was between the ages of nine and ten years old.

Adelaide attended the local academy between the ages of eleven and seventeen; she took her OWL equivalency in her sixth year, and managed to score four O's (In Transfiguration, Potions, Divination and History) and three A's (in DADA, charms and Herbology) while she received an E on her Astronomy, Ancient Runes and Arithmancy exams.

For her NEWT year, she chose to drop astronomy. In her final exam she received O’s in Transfiguration, DADA, Ancient Runes and Potions. She received an E in charms, Divination, History and Arithmancy.

Prior to her marriage, she worked as a nurse at a French wizardry hospital, before briefly transferring to St. Mungo’s in her mid twenties. At the age of twenty seven, and at the urging of her parents, she married Orestres Ageptus. Though initially unhappy with married life, the new bride eventually gained joy from the birth of a daughter, Persephone, about a year into their marriage. The tragic loss of the child a few months after her birth, however, put a strain on the marriage that would not be lifted until the birth of their son Creon some two years later.

Though a part of her wished to return to her nursing career, Adelaide decided soon after the birth of her son to devote her time to motherhood. In this vain, she raised Creon in a very person manner that was unusual at that time. She even went to the step of clearing her schedule of non vital society events in order to nurture and care for him. This was in a stark contrast to her husband, who had taken somewhat to a more traditional style of parenting. She would often play with her son at every available opportunity, and took to reading him stories before bed.

This gentle mother son relationship was slightly disrupted in 1936, following the birth of her granddaughter Marie. Though little could ever estrange her from her son, she was nonetheless left disappointed at the fact that the couple had conceived a child out of wedlock. Eventually, however, she forgave her son and sought to provide the best possible future for Marie as she grew up; this feeling never quite extended to the child’s mother, who was often left at the whim of the elder woman and her wealthy husband. In the end, an agreement was made to provide the woman with small home which the couple would pay for. Adelaide and her husband nonetheless maintained the right to evict Isabel at any time.

Following the loss of her husband, Adelaide maintained her villa in Normandy and was given a London townhouse by her son. She now runs a shop in Diagon Ally.

Option One -
Amelia Nixon was many things, but she was never a pushover reporter that people could just usher away with a busy shuffle past. She was dedicated and eager to cut to the very middle of the current political tensions because she was Amelia Nixon and her articles would most certainly become front page material.

“Sir, please! It’s for the Prophet, how do you feel-“

Another one brushed passed her, the shuffling busy masses making their way through Diagon Alley for the lunchtime rush. This had been the best possible time to get people, but none of them were giving her anything to go with.

Only momentarily discouraged, the short red headed lady took a seat on a nearby bench. Her quill resting in her left hand and her notepad ready in the opposite hand. Amelia pouted, tapping the quill against her leg as she scanned the waves of people for somebody - anybody - who looked like they had something to say.

She had been dreaming of her name in bold print, Amelia Nixon: The Source of Today’s Tomorrow. She had been dreaming of the larger office and the secretaries that would fetch her the morning coffee and fetch her anything she needed. The VIP interviews and the most exclusive press passes. But all Amelia had was a page seventeen piece on the rising number of frogs in London.

Hardened by a day of no success, the reporter stood up and started to trod off down the alley. A loose stone on the cobble path caught her heel, sending the distraught girl toppling down to the ground.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!” she yelled as she tried desperately to recover her shoe frantically in the middle of the Diagon Alley moving crowds.

Adelaide smiled; the poor woman seemed to be in a panic, and a part of her couldn’t help but sympathize with her. For a few minutes, she did little more than look around and see if someone, indeed anyone, would help the younger woman.

When no one appeared, she sighed and pulled out her wand.

“No one has any manners anymore.” She said, sighing as she pointed the wand at the shoe and said “Accio shoe”

It took some time for the shoe to come to her, yet when it did she walked over to the woman with the shoe in hand.

“Here you are” Adelaide said “Nothing to worry about”

Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Marie Anne Comtois

Birthday: May 12th, 1938

Hometown: Montebeliard, Franche-Comte, Republic of France.

Bloodline:
Unknown (claims to be a Pureblood for census purposes)

Magical Strength (pick one):
Transfiguration

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two): Fourth and Third year.

Biography:

Born to her mother, Isabelle Corinne Demargo and her father, Creon, she was raised almost entirely in France with the exception of her father's weekend visits during the summertime of each year. She was surrounded, from an early age, by her mother's love and care; though she was a woman of only mild means, Isabelle attempted to do her due diligence with regards to her daughter's upbeinging; in that vain, Maries family developed a system for Guardianship and custodial duties, whereby her mother would be her primary guardian, while her father would maintain joint custody, and her grandmother was allowed to visit her for the purpose of financing her education.

At the age of eleven, her grand mother decided to have her enrolled at the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic. She would attend that school for about three years, before her father decided that she should transfer to his alma mater of Hogwarts; her grandmother, Adelaide, seemed joyful at times that she seemed to have inherited her gift with transfiguration, while dismissing her father and grandfather's complaints regarding her ability with Charms. Though she maintained an E average throughout her tenure at the Academy, it was well known for sometime that she had received a howler from her Grandfather, Oristes, for her failure to get an E on her charms exam in her second year.

Indeed, things were not always well for her; despite the somewhat tender feelings between her father and herself, Creon failed on multiple occassions to sheild her from his father's wrath. Oristes often took a domineering and even hostile approach to his grand daughter's health and mental well being; once, upon being notified of her failure to, in the words of the servant present, "dress properly", he threatened to have her crucioed until she understood that she was not to go "dressed up like a [bed warmer]".  Despite her grandmother's interference, she knew well that her grandfather would have carried out the threat.

Her father and grandmother, however, doted on her whenever it was within their power to do so; for her sixth birthday, her father gifted her a horse to ride on at her pleasure. Meanwhile, her grandmother gave her an early tour of the Academy during its summer break in 1945. She was allowed free reign on the library and grounds, and was often given access to floo network while in the British isles. Her mother, of course, was supportive. Yet Marie often worried about the feeling of isolation that she knew her mother often felt.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character. Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not Evangeline's or Hugh's.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Marie smiled at the young woman; it was clear that she was not from her house. A part of her felt a kindred spirit; another part felt something like sadness mixed with disdain. Her mixed upbringing left her with conflicted emotions many times, yet her inner humanity had not been as yet snuffed out. With a stride forward, she walked towards the young woman, her wand in hand.

With a whispered 'lumos', she was able to get a deeper look. She did not seem unkind; rather, she seemed to be afraid and possibly alone.

"Hello, ma'am" said Marie "Are you alone?"

Marie's face was kind and gentle; she bid no harm to the young woman who looked every inch the Gryffindor. Indeed, she could not help but think somewhat derisively of the idiocy of the House system; why should this young woman be forced to walk alone in the dark, based off of the arbitrary decision of a hat? To her, it made little sense to have that happen.
