Hometown: Oban, Scotland

Bloodline:

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two): Fourth (first pick) or Third (second pick)

Biography:

Born on a day marked for love, Kalyna’s life still was found to be rather lacking in such a substance. Something almost foreign to her even as she entered her early adult years. For all the love between her parents, something many found themselves envious of, Kalyna’s birth would be the beginning of the end for her parent’s so-called true love.

Her mother thought she was a squib and so she left while her daughter was merely two years old after giving birth to her second child and Lyna’s brother, Alister. No letters, no visits, nothing  until Kalyna’s 10th birthday. She came back when she got wind of her daughter receiving her letter from Durmstrang. It was believed that Clara had left because her family was part of a long line of Purebloods so she had been ashamed that her daughter might not have magical abilities. Of course Kalyna had them, they simply manifested more at night when she was alone in her bedroom. It wasn’t until she caught her father, Yakiv, breaking down one morning when he came across his wife’s old scarf that Kalyna showed her first public sign of magic, a tissue levitating it’s way over to her father as she stood in the doorway watching him. When her mother returned she talked Yakiv into moving the family back to Scotland where they settled in Oban and Lyna’s dreams of attending Durmstrang were dashed… instead an owl from Hogwarts arrived not long after only planting a deeper seed of resentment towards her mother.

Often looked down upon by the Muggle tourist families that came to stay in Oban, Kalyna was always looked at as a dirty local child only there to carry bags to and from the car when they showed up at the Bed and Breakfast or point the direction of whatever attraction they wanted to see. Even with her mixed background being from Ukraine some of the Scottish locals were skeptical of why they had settled there. This led to mixed feelings about Muggles as Lyna grew up; she learned to play on her own as many local children gave her a wide berth. Eventually Lyna accepted her standing among the locals and tourist families making her feel far more at home while attending Hogwarts. At least there she had fellow magical children to openly be herself around.

Lyna’s years at Hogwarts started off scholarly and in- line… that was until her third year when she began to become more outspoken, mostly to her mother. She found herself adventuring out past hours, slacking on studying, getting in fights (being called Lyna Lips, Tight Lips, Lippy, was not handled well by the headstrong girl.) While attending Hogwarts regardless of her nitty-gritty attitude, she had plenty of peers she got along with and studied alongside. She did hang out with a variety of others and was social, even leading into her “rough phase” of her teens by fourth year though some friendships began drifting apart as Lyna became more and more boisterous. Lyna might have closed herself off and been private but never let it stop her from going to events or parties with others, Quidditch games, dances, etc. She enjoys being in the company of others and feeling like she is a part of something. Whether the Sorting Hat saw more in her or not somewhere deep down below the typical Gryffindor stereotypes, Lyna craved acceptance. Surrounding herself with people was a way for her to escape the reality she lived back home and dealing with the tension that had grown in her family. Steadfast with her group of friends she still floated between groups at times and never stayed long enough with one group of her peers long enough for them to see the real her. This was just how Kalyna liked it. If she wasn’t among people long enough they couldn’t get close which meant they couldn’t hurt her. Another reason why she typically was the one to choose to leave a friendship first due to her abandonment issues thanks to her mother. Bits of her past tended to get the girl caught up in the moment and often caused her to stick her nose into other people’s business when she felt it was warranted. Someone being bullied or the sounds of an upset peer would always stand out the most to her, usually ending in a scrappy fight or argument and occasionally detention.

House Request: Gryffindor (first choice) Slytherin (second choice)

Personality:
A wry smile or smirk seems to be permanently affixed to Kalyna's lips. Boredom isn't something she typically finds herself struggling with since the first trickle of it will spark her curious and all too rebellious nature. Whether alone or dragging someone along with her, Lyna is often seeking out trouble in some form or another. When she isn't it somehow still manages to find her. Unable to keep her opinions to herself and having little to no filter when it comes to socializing the young girl has a hard time keeping friends, let alone finding them. Despite being outgoing she is rather guarded and private about her feelings.

Lyna might find herself in and out of social groups or around others during classes or outside of school but she tends to be more of a floater than settling roots around any certain group of her peers. This stems from her lack of trust due to her mother's abandonment at a young age as well as her own insecurities. Her tough exterior, attitude, sarcastic clap-backs, and over confidence is simply a thick shell she has built up around herself to hide the worry and longing she holds deep inside. All the talk about being fine alone is more about convincing herself than it is truth. Instead Lyna overcompensates with a loud mouth and boisterous attitude. Not that any of this means she doesn't genuinely enjoy or care for her friends or most of her peers, just the opposite in fact. When faced with seeing a peer being mistreated or bullied Lyna is quick to jump into the situation as quick as she can whether with her words or fists.

When it comes to her temper add it to the list of things Lyna has no control over in life. She is quick to flare up and takes twice as long to cool off but unafraid to return and admit or apologize if she knows some blame rests on her shoulders. Though prideful Lyna is also aware that sometimes you have to set yourself aside to move on, help a friend, or find a positive outcome. Forgiveness isn't a problem for Lyna to come to terms with unless it is with her mother.

Appearance:
Dark reddish-brown hair cut in ragged layers rests atop the young girl's head, a choppy fringe covering her dark but well kept brows and a portion of her misty blue eyes. Lyna keeps her hair down a majority of the time, falling just past her shoulders and brushed to keep it from looking like a tangled mess. Average height and build of a girl her age, roughly 5'4" with a slender frame and some slight musculature from having to do chores back home.

Lyna holds herself in a confident manner, shoulders fixed and arms crossed (she feels a bit insecure about not being as filled out as some girls.) She rarely looks down and always makes eye contact with others. She has a sharp brow and nose ridge but smooth curve to her cheek bones and strong jawline.

Fashion and accessory wise Lyna enjoys popular styles along with trying to add in her own flare, which her mother loathes... Being aware of Muggle lifestyles being Halfblood Lyna loves to read over magazines to put together outfits and shop(lift). Most of the colors and patterns she wears resonates with her personality. Her uniform is often untucked and strategically thought out to appear to be uncaring in appearance (cool kids have loose ties don't they?)

Response: Option I

The dungeons had been one of the few places that continued to intrigue Kalyna, minus the constantly changing staircases anyway. Something about the damp, spooky halls set her nerves on end. Admittedly, she enjoyed the unknown that came with being down this far in the castle. The chill that crept under her wool jumper and settled in the base of her spine sending a tingle through her arms. How the light was swallowed up by the dark passages and corners collecting shadows so deep it felt like you might be swept away into them as you turned onto each new path. Normally she would have stolen away to the dungeons with a friend but they had all been busy with their studies. Boring. Lyna could do papers during breakfast before classes, why waste a perfectly good day for exploring on anything other than just that?

By now the teen had been familiar with the castle routes to take and was more so wandering in whatever direction her feet took her instead of aimlessly searching for the Potions classroom like she had the first year at Hogwarts. The smile on her face started to fade as she walked realizing there wasn't much going on down here as she had hoped. Sometimes she was lucky and caught a couple of other students up to no good and could take part in whatever scheme. No such luck. Last time a couple of seventh year boys had been setting up some sort of prank on the classroom doors, Lyna of course lent a hand but didn't bother to stick around for the outcome knowing full well what sort of reward would await them once a Professor found out.

A small huff escaped between the girl's lips as she paused to turn back in the direction of the upper levels. If there was nothing better to do then she would relent and find her friends to complain work on homework for the evening. As she had decided to give up on any mischief a small voice tugged at Lyna, who instantly began to perk up. A tender little greeting flowed from around the corner she stood behind just out of view. A wicked smile parted Lyna's chapped lips as she licked them quickly to try and ready a response. This would be too easy! Crouching down closer to the cold floor, her shins resting against the wet stones under her, Lyna swallowed before cupping her hands to her mouth. She used to play a similar trick with her brother back home at one of the buildings everyone claimed was haunted so she already knew full well how to do the guttural call of a ghostly being. Projecting her voice hoping it would bounce off of the empty hallway and towards the fellow student calling out, Lyna let out what started as a soft groan and grew into a chesty moan.

"Whhhyy... have youu commeee..." Stretching out her words and pushing air forcefully from her chest to sound breathier than a normal human being, Lyna had to pause to keep from laughing as she wondered what the look on their face would be. "Youu shoulddn''t beeEEeeee hereeee..." Lyna's voice let out a soft hiss as the end before adding on, "IIiiitttuh," She strained her voice more and more as she continued on. "IT will commmee annyy minute nowww." Lyna bit down hard on her lip as her hand grabbed at her mouth to stifle another laugh.

Roleplay:
Reply as your character to the following:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trudged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:

“Finally!” Kalyna stretched her arms overhead and dug her toes deep into the earth, grass tickling her ankles. It had been days of dreary weather and gray skies leaving the fourteen year old to be stuck inside with her brother of all people. She loved the boy dearly but after hours of nonstop chatter about some Quidditch player she could care less about as he followed nipping at her heels, Lyna was close to tossing him into a closet and locking him in for the day. Plopping down onto the ground and lying out in the sunshine like a cat sunning her belly, Lyna let out a long breath.

Her father, Yakiv, had deemed today a family day… what exactly that meant Kalyna hadn’t the foggiest. Typically her mother was off doing whatever she felt was far more important than her duties at home tending to the shop as well as her children. This meant Lyna and her brother entertained themselves while their father was off to work for the day. Still, Lyna had managed to find herself alone on their grandiose trip to Godric Park which suited her just fine. Rolling onto her side, she let her icy gaze glide around her surroundings lazily. People were coming and going, children laughing, a bird chirping merrily in a tree. Sure the scenery looked peaceful but to a teenager the serene setting was ultimately boring, far too… cliche.

Kalyna flopped onto her back once more and stared up at the sunlight, an arm draped over her forehead to shield her eyes. A high pitched voice grabbed the girl’s attention making her sit up on her elbows and eyes flick to inspect where the sound had come from. A small but frightening thing, Lyna thought as she watched curiously while the girl dismounted a broom. Strange that she should be so angry about- Lyna’s thoughts were cut short as she realized the girl had caught sight of her.

“Me..?” Sitting upright and pulling her legs in closer, Lyna took a quick look over her shoulder. Surely the girl hadn’t spoken to her in that tone. Glancing back she was still met with a piercing blue gaze honed in on Lyna with pin point accuracy. ‘What is this girl’s deal?’ Kalyna sighed lightly when it hit her what the girl had asked. She wanted to play with her? Didn’t she have anyone else around to hang out with?

Rising to her feet Lyna padded over to the small girl and gave her a quick once over. The broom had been tossed aside on the ground at her feet, poor thing and judging by the look on the child’s face her nerves were just as frayed as the ends of the twigs she had been riding on. Kalyna was used to tantrums by now having a younger brother so while the offender was new to her the fit was all too familiar. Her expression softened as she stuck out her hand, pale skin almost blinding in the sunshine.

“Sure why not! First things first though, I’m Lyna. What’s your name?”
