Hi, Harleen!

Your app's looking good so far, there's just a couple of changes that we require you to make before we can get you accepted.

“I was raised by my mother—“Drunken whore “I had a happy childhood,

HSNet is rated PG13, and we feel that the bolded phrase above does not comply with this. Please could you either omit or alter this so that it fits within our site rating.

I've also sent a separate PM regarding Harleen and the nature of her character, so please check that too. Once you've made the required changes, please post your entire revised application below, and we'll be happy to take another look at it. Thanks!

Hi, Siobhan!

Welcome to the site, we're so glad you found us! Your application is looking great so far.

Before we can accept you, however, we'd like you to expand your RP sample. The admins often use the RP sample to help them to sort characters into houses, so it's useful if they have a little more to work with here.

If you're unsure of what else you might write about, you could expand on what Siobhan thinks of Potions, or write in more detail how Siobhan is feeling as she wanders around in the dungeons alone. When she sees Evangeline, is she nervous? Scared? Perhaps she's thrilled she's not alone?

Once you've made the required changes to your RP sample, please post your entire revised application below and we'll be happy to take another look at it!

Hi Nico, and welcome to the site!

Your application is coming along nicely, there's just a couple of changes you'll need to make before we can accept your app. Your bio is great, but we require just a little more detail from you in this section. The minimum word count for older (4th-7th year) students' biographies is 300 words, so yours falls just a little short. Of course, you can always write more than this if you'd like to! Feel free to expand on Nico's past or the family's intriguing backstory a little more.

Your RP sample looks good too, however we try to avoid using text speech (e.g. u, urs, wut, etc.) whilst threading. If you could either omit the line below, or alter the bolded phrase, that'd be wonderful.

Hi Dolos!

Elsewhere Adults are automatically granted 32 levels to distribute across Charms/Divination/Transfiguration/Conjuring&Summoning. Each term, they can also earn levels in other ways, the two most common being:
- Personal threads (maximum of two levels)
- Passing an Institution (one level per Institution)

The complete levelling form can be found here, it lists all the ways you can earn levels as an Elsewhere Adult.

Valedictorian and Salutatorian are specific to the castle, and are awarded to the top scoring students in each class. Valedictorians earn another magical level (for core classes) or another half-level (for electives). Salutatorians are awarded 10 house points. More details on the grading system can be found here.

I hope this helps! If you've got any more questions, feel free to PM me. c:

Calypso Galanis

Biography: (100 words minimum.)

Sebastian had always been a responsible big brother. From day one, when the crying twins had been left on the doorstep of the orphanage, it was his blanket that had shielded his sister from the rain. Admittedly, he had played no conscious part in this, but nevertheless from then on, he had always been there to protect Satin, though her character made this extremely difficult. He was the mature one; he’d had to be, having no choice when paired with one as devious as Satin.

Silent but deadly, that was her game. Where she was both the calm before the storm and the instrument of destruction itself, he was the sunshine on a summer day. Yes, he enjoyed the pranks he often pulled with his sister; but he knew the limits, he never overstepped the boundaries. He was playful, but never dangerously so. Unfortunately, the same could not be said for Satin.

Six years had been spent in the orphanage that he viewed as his home; six long years, forever cleaning up after his sister and the chaos she left in her wake. Not that he held it against her; how could he, at six years old? Besides, he wasn’t the revengeful type. He merely accepted the responsibility as he should. After all, he was her big brother, regardless of how small the age difference was. He would do his duty by her and keep her safe. But he hadn’t been able to keep her safe. Not from everything that she seemed determined to stick her nose into.

The fateful day that Satin lost her voice, Sebastian had been beside himself with grief. It was his own fault, at least in his eyes. He hadn’t kept an eye on her as he usually did, too excited by the group outing to notice as she slipped away. The past year had been difficult for him, adjusting to life with a now completely silent sister. But he’d pulled through, as he always had done. He made up for her lack of noise with his own boisterous behaviour, and the event had pulled the twins even more closely together than before.

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:

Gabriel had been watching the other children flying for a good few minutes, so it was with amusement that he gazed at the girl who had addressed him. She was even smaller than his sister. Shaking his head, he merely grinned at her, sauntering towards the broom that she had so rudely shoved into the mud.

"You'll damage it if you do that," he mumbled, more to himself than to the girl. He glanced at her questioningly, as if seeking approval,  before tugging the object out of the dirt. Clomps of mud flew through the air, and Gabriel stepped back, his nose wrinkling slightly as he examined the broomstick.

"You're not getting anywhere near your brother with this thing," he commented, shaking his head again. At six years old, he was already far more mature than most. After all, he had Lucifer to look after. "I've never played with one of these before," he added, offering it to her. "If you like, we could play something else, though. It could be fun. What do you like doing?" He chattered aimlessly, not bothering to check if she was even listening to him. He just wanted some company before he had to return home. Luci was waiting for him, as she always was.

Please list any other characters you already have at the site:
Calypso Galanis, Gabriel Winchester.

Biography: (300 words minimum.)

Son to an Englishman and his Malaysian wife, Aaron spent the first seven years of his life growing up on the family’s estate with his parents. His mother’s sudden death came as a shock to both his father and himself, causing the pair’s relationship to become tense and infused with frequent fights. It was with pleasure that Mr Herondale dropped Aaron off at Platform 9 and ¾ on 1st September, the year that he finally turned eleven. Like his father, he was a Slytherin, though the memory of his Muggle mother only stained his bloodline, at least in his fellow housemates’ eyes. At seventeen, he left with a full set of qualifications, but that same year was the one in which he lost his second parent. Orphaned, but technically of age, Aaron sold his father’s estate; the home that had not served him happy memories for over a decade. With the money, he opted to visit his mother’s birth country, still unsure with what he wanted to do with his life.

He spent the next seven years with his mother’s family, helping to run their family business. It was only a small shop, but it was successful, and he revelled in the social interaction he got with the customers; he’d always been outgoing, and shopkeeping allowed him the pleasure of talking to others whilst earning money. At the age of twenty five, he decided he had earned a well-deserved break. With his cousin, they set off on a cruise, determined to see the sights of the world together. It was then that his life changed.

Aboard the cruise was a girl, only three years younger than he. Cveta Lijjana Milic. That was her name, and she changed everything, when she approached him as they pulled into Rome’s docks. They spent the rest of the journey together, much to his cousin’s frustration, and when the ship docked in England’s harbours, they didn’t return to their fellow cruise members at the allocated time. They didn’t return at all. The pair stayed in London, and Aaron persuaded Cveta to open a shop with him. Eight years later and they were still together, happily married and living above the shop he’d always dreamed of owning.

Reply as your character to the following:

It was impossible for Dianne to stay out of trouble. It wasn't that she was looking for trouble, it's just that trouble always managed to find her. Today she wished she could find something equally familiar but more comforting.

The five-year old girl hugged her puffskein closer to her and brushed her face in its soft fur for comfort. She had named him herself and he was always her special pet. No she was certain she had never gone down this side street before. Her anxiety increased every second as darkness fell as she walked down the road. A loud noise came to her left and she buried her face in her pet's fur completely. The scared girl bolted the opposite way slamming the both of them into the wall of the nearest building. Tottering back a few steps she found a door a few feet to her right and ran to open it. What light there was inside spilled out into the darkness and she spilled into the room.

Once in, she was caught between the impulse to curl her cloak up more tightly around her and loosen her grip on it. She wasn't alone anymore but she was now among strangers instead, which was nearly as terrifying. Her puffskein had recovered from the shock of the wall and now was purring contentedly as the girl hugged it, causing a mildly calming effect on the girl. Gathering her courage, she marched up to the nearest person, pulled on the nearest clothing hem and blurted out in a loud voice:

"I'm lost and it's dark and I wanted to know where I am but I'm not scared but I am worried that Sambundeakin is scared because he's little and needs something to eat and wants to go home."

She paused to draw a breath in her nearly never-ending sentence, "He misses my and his mommy."

To explain the scared girl held up the custard-colored puffskein. Sambundeakin the puffskein, however simply purred as if nothing on earth was wrong in the world.

Roleplay Response:

Aaron glanced upward automatically as the bell tinkled another customer’s arrival. The shop was busy, considering it was nearly nightfall, and he wasn’t sure how many more people the small room could take. But the figure who entered was clearly not a customer. It was a small child, and she looked distressed. He moved towards her, intent on rescuing the poor creature from the mass of adults that loomed overhead, but before he had the chance to do so, she was already tugging at the hem of his shirt.

Aaron watched with a mixture of confusion and amusement as she proceeded to reel off an explanation and a plea for help. The puffskein –Sambundinky, or some other ridiculously long-winded name – purred at him as he blinked back at the girl. “Okay, sweetheart.” The man’s voice was gentle as he offered the girl his hand as a replacement for the shirt hem. He’d always wanted children of his own, but Cveta had never been sure enough to want to try. “We’ll help you find your mummy. I’m sure you must miss her just as much as, er...” He trailed off, pointing helplessly at the puffskein. “...your friend.” He finished the sentence lamely, shaking his head.

“But it’s rather crowded in here, see. I can barely hear you. Why don’t you come to the front of the shop with me? My wife should be up there too, and she can get you a chair to sit down while we figure it out, hm?” He realised he was babbling, probably scaring the girl even more than she already had been, and he stopped abruptly, kneeling down to her height and gazing at her as he waited for her answer.

Biography: (100 words minimum.)
It was a stormy day and the twins were screeching and wailing. The children had not even been named; their mother had decided to wait one-hundred days to name them, like her adoptive parents, who were Chinese had waited with her. It was just traditional.

The woman could not handle herself, and her children. She made a choice, that while her husband was out she would go take the children to the orphanage. So, she did, except her husband had come home early and agreed with her, he'd even helped take them to the orphanage.

There was not a note, nor a name. The babes were just left there, in the tearoom at St. Mungos.

Six Years Later

The hospital staff had named the little babes, Gabriel for the boy, Lucifer for the girl. Why? As they had aged it was clear that Gabriel was more caring and sane than his sister, who was this little evil whirlwind. She caused so much trouble for everyone else - who was not her big brother. They got the last name Winchester, because Lucifer and Gabriel seemed to have come to the hospital on a day that sounded like a gun was being fired; and colt just did not sound right.

Gabriel and Lucifer hope to be adopted; everyday they go and Gabriel makes Lucifer behave as best as she can, just hoping that someone will take them in. They want to go together, they've decided, especially since Gabriel is the only person Lucifer lets touch her.

Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.
Name: Calypso Galanis

Birthday: 29th August

Hometown: London

Bloodline: Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one): Divination

Year (pick two): First or Second

Biography:
The year was 1917 when Ella Crowley boarded the Hogwarts Express for the first time and found herself seated next to a handsome young boy, who went by the name of Dmitri Galanis. He was Greek, he informed her once she had plucked up enough courage to return his greeting. He’d been sent away from his home in Greece to study at Hogwarts, just like his father before him. The pair left the Hogwarts Express that day together, their lifelong friendship already blossoming. Fast-forward seven years and the two children, now in their late teens, graduated Hogwarts with flying colours, just as everybody had expected of them. Nobody was surprised when Ella and Dmetri announced their plans to marry.

In 1926 on August 29th, Calypso Galanis was born. An only child, she was the main object of her parents’ affections, and she flourished in the family home that her father had built for himself and his wife. The young girl wanted for nothing, except a playmate; it was a sibling she desired most, a younger brother or sister that she could drag along on her many adventures. But that was the one wish her parents could not grant her, though they tried. Life was lonely – there was only so much adult company a child could enjoy. Visitors came often, and almost always brought their children, but they always left, as guests are bound to do. The girl’s childhood dragged on, her fantastical stories growing more and more dull as the lack of a companion grew more and more obvious to Calypso.

On the girl’s eleventh birthday, the letter that would change her life finally came. It was one she had been expecting eagerly for eleven years, and it didn’t disappoint:
“Dear Miss Galanis,” the letter read. “We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry...”

All the adventures she had dreamed of would soon be coming true. There’d be other children there, other people her own age she would take lessons with, eat with, live with, become friends with. That night, the girl’s dreams were full of the school her mother and father had told her so much about. Hopes were built and raised, and Calypso could only hope that Hogwarts would live up to her expectations.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Ravenclaw

Personality: Calypso is quietly confident, and incredibly imaginative, a result of having grown up alone. She has a very black and white sense of wrong and right, and isn't afraid to call somebody out on behaviour she deems rude. She's friendly and willing to talk to everybody, though occasionally she struggles to uphold conversations with her peers, not used to conversing with other children. She hates asking for help with anything, much preferring to find out a solution for herself, and she spends a lot of time in the library, reading anything she can lay her hands on, fact or fiction.

Appearance: Calypso is the spitting image of her mother; blonde hair reaching down to her shoulders, often unruly and tangled. Despite her aptitude for Charms, she has yet to find one that will make her hair lie smoothly for a  reasonable period of time.  She is short for her age, much shorter than most, and has a small frame, having lost her puppy fat over the years. Calypso's most prominent feature are her piercing grey eyes, also inherited from her mother.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
Please reply to one of the Sample Roleplays below.

Calypso turned at the question, brief surprise flitting across her face. Her grey eyes travelled down the girl’s figure and back up to her face, her head tilted slightly. She recognised the girl – she helped with the school paper, something Calypso herself wanted to do; not that Calypso had taken up the courage to attempt sending in an article just yet. She was working on something, a story of sorts, but it still needed polishing; her stories always lacked that final touch that was necessary to make masterpieces.  “Astrid, isn’t it?” she replied cheerfully, contemplating the question. A thoughtful look crossed her face, and the young girl tugged at a loose thread on the sleeve of her robe as she pondered how best to answer.

“Frog legs? Is that what you said?” An odd look crossed Calypso’s face as she shuffled uncomfortably, blinking up at the girl. “I’m open to anything really; I’ve heard they taste like chicken, not that I’ve tried them. But...” She trailed off uncertainly, kicking at the stone floor with her left foot. “Frogs are very similar to toads, really. And a lot of students here have toads,” Calypso pointed out. “One of my best friends has one. And I don’t think she’d take kindly to being served Terrence’s cousins.”

Satisfied with her answer, Calypso shrugged at Astrid, her usual smile appearing on her face once again. “I hope my insight was helpful,” she chirped brightly, before glancing back in the direction she had been going before the interruption. She had a pile of homework to be finishing, but Astrid worked at the paper. Perhaps she would know whether they needed any extra help, something which Calypso was more than willing to give. “I know this probably isn’t the best time – you must be wanting to go and ask more people for your survey. But I was just wondering if you knew... I mean, I’d quite like to help with the paper.” She fell silent, wincing slightly at how awkward she sounded. Calypso hated asking, for help or for favours, or for anything really. “Do you think they’d have room for me?” she managed to say, gazing hopefully at the other girl. She could feel her cheeks flushing; she was embarrassed by the clumsiness of her request, but  glad she’d summoned the determination to ask.
