Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Jaquel Devaux

Birthday: January 29th [15 YoA]

Hometown: Paris, France

Bloodline: Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one): Transfiguration

Year (pick two): 4th or 5th

Biography: The Devaux Family were Dancers.

Most, if not all of them, grew up to become skilled in some dance or other, and it was quite common for a Devaux to master multiple disciplines. It just ran in their blood, one could say. And they were all about blood, like many other Pureblood families.

Dancing was life, to a Devaux: the more styles a Devaux knew, the more they danced in their life, the healthier they seemed, and dancing even seemed to affect their magic. The more a Devaux danced, the stronger their magic.

Of course, Devaux was no exception. Since he could walk, he was taught to dance. When he was little, he could be seen leaping and twirling with the joy another child would feel running and playing with friends. Dancing was such that his life nearly revolved around it. He was taught to take utmost care of his body, and when he was soon found to have a penchant for singing, he was instructed on how and why to take care of his voice; his throat, his teeth, his mouth in general. Until caring for personal hygiene and hygiene in general became a noticeable part of the boy's life.

There is, of course, much more to Jaquel Devaux backstory, the story before Hogwarts, but that can come at another time. Why don't we skip on ahead to life during Hogwarts?

Jaquel Devaux, or J.D. as some may come to call him, went through all that a regular first year went through: the awe of the Castle, the awe of the blatant magic, just the pure.... Emotion one felt when going to Hogwarts. Whether joy, happiness, contentment, who really knows? Hogwarts just made someone feel wonderful, we could all agree.

J.D. was sorted into the Slytherin House, the same place where all Devaux went, for some reason or another. One could suppose it was the want for power that ran through their veins. One could suppose they were evil. One could suppose a lot of things, but either way, Jaquel was no different from his Family going into Hogwarts.

Skipping on ahead a bit, once more.....

J.D. seemed to excel in Charms. Whether harmful, helpful, or neither, he grasped them easier than he did Transfiguration. Transfiguration was just something he found himself lacking in, but to be honest with you, he didn't really care. No, not at all. To him it was useless, for some reason or other. But he did try his best to do everything he needed to pass.

Ahh, I'm derailing myself! No matter, though, there really isn't much else to tell you. We can leave his history here, and you, my dear reader, can journey with him through his story.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Slytherin

Personality: Jaquel's not particularly friendly, nor particularly nice, and prone to snark, sarcasm, and comments that can have different meanings.

Jaquel is usually a lax, chill individual throughout the day, and has a special ability: he can fall asleep easily, and can stay asleep for hours on end, at any time of day, no matter where. Whether in the dorms or in a class full of screaming spells, he can sleep through all.

This could possibly lead many to think him some sort of an idiot, however, he's anything but. While rarely showing an ability merely because he doesn't feel like it, he is actually pretty smart. In some areas, anyway.

The only time that he would be serious and active would be in a class he likes, dueling, or during some other activity that piques his interest, which is usually only dancing, flying a broomstick, or singing a favored tune.

Likes: Dancing, Charms, Dueling, Applejuice, Seafood, Broomsticks, Singing, Girls
Dislikes: Loud and annoying people, People in general, Eggs, Unclean things

Appearance: Jaquel is somewhat tall for his age and posses clear brown skin. His dark brown hair is a very curly, puffy afro. At his chin is the small, unnoticeable goatee of a teen. He could be considered "skinny" or "lanky", but it is really only the lack of fat and presence of the slim, acrobatic muscles of a dancer. His eyes are a light-medium brown, and usually half-closed in either boredom or tiredness. His jaw and chin are equally strong, high-cheekbones and hollow cheeks completing his somewhat mature visage.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
Chosen Option 1

The boy with the afro sighed, shifting to a more comfortable position on the chair. He was sitting in the Slytherin Common Room, sitting like he did every time: his back against one arm-handle, one long arm draped across the back of the chair, his other equally lengthy arm across his midsection. One leg was lazily resting over the other arm-handle, while his opposite leg bounced up and down slightly while resting on the ground.

He cracked open an eye at the noises of the other Slytherins, before getting to his feet with the grace of a learned dancer. His lengthy strides took him quickly to the exit, doing what any Slytherin did to leave the dorms (if you're a Slytherin, you know what I'm talking about) and started walking towards.... Well, he didn't -really- have a destination in mind, but as long as it was a quiet place.

"H-h-hello?"

J.D raised his head sharply, glancing around. Someone that didn't belong seemed to be about. Honestly, though, Jaquel couldn't be sure, nor did he really care: he didn't see someone leave before him (as if he were paying attention, truthfully) and neither did it matter to him whether this random person was supposed to be here or not.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

Jaquel snorted in only slight amusement. This Emma Birch thing again. The boy really didn't believe any of that crap, but it was always funny when a younger student from one of the other Houses found themselves here for that particular reason. Ghost hunting. What a load of bollocks.

"Emma isn't here today, but Jaquel is." A few things ran through his mind, things that would possibly scare the girl (he'd finally seen her fully) but he wasn't really in the mood. "Why don't you scurry along little cub," he said, catching sight of her House emblem on her clothing. "Before Emma comes and pays you a nice visit." With that, he strode on, whistling a somewhat haunting tune with a smirk on his face.

Hey, Jaquel, and welcome to the site! :D Your application is simply fabulous (there's so much personality to J.D., and I really adore the dancing bits!), but before we can accept it, there's just one thing or two edits I'd like to ask you to make.

First of all, you state in the application that Jaquel was Sorted into Slytherin. Before we can accept this application, we need to ask that you remove all mentions of belonging to a particular House, as the House that the character is Sorted into is decided by the administrators processing the application during Summer time. While your preference for Slytherin will definitely be taken into account, it does not guarantee a place in that House.

Secondly, in your roleplay sample you have J.D. leave the scene, which would make for a slightly abrupt ending to the thread and not give the person much to reply to. Could you please tweak it so that he hangs around (however much he may not want to)?

Once these changes have been made, and the edited application reposted below, we can take another look at your application and set you up. :)

Thank you! <3

The boy with the afro sighed in exhaustion, glancing around at his surroundings. He'd been walking for such a long time. And all because he didn't want to pay attention to where he walked. His bored, sleepy eyes scanned his location: he was in the dungeons. Of all places, his legs had to bring him here. Why not somewhere nice, like.... the Great Hall? There would be nice, he could easily just... Fall asleep on the tables.
