Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Rajmohan Dekhar

Birthday: March 9, 1942

Hometown: London, England

Bloodline:
Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two): First, or second

Biography:
It honestly doesn’t get any more extrordinary than the Dekhars. Ram and Harshaali Dekhar (nee Khurana) were both healers who met while attending India’s school of witchcraft and wizardry. They moved out to London to elope, as Ram was muggleborn and Harshaali came from an esteemed and very pro-blood purity pureblood family, and soon had their son, Rajmohan, named after Ram’s grandfather. Eventually they both found work at St. Mungo’s, Ram being based in the Maternity ward, and Harshaali in Military Quarantine.

When both of Raj’s parents were faced to put their careers on pause, it was ultimately Harshaali who decided to leave her job and homeschool Raj, giving him an education that was anything but basic. With her passion for healing and her aspirations for Raj to follow in their footsteps, a lot of subjects that would’ve been a little obscene for a child his age wasn’t made taboo for him, finding out exactly where babies come from while he was practically one himself.  She dreaded becoming the housewife stereotype, but seeing that she would be spending more time with her son than the wounds of others, Harshalli saw the situation as bittersweet. With Raj’s studies gradually progressing, signs of his magical prowess began to emerge, with books levitating around him in random lessons, and quills writing on parchment without a hand. Witnessing this at his age, his mother thought was a good time as any to introduce him to the very basics of magic.

As expected, he couldn’t do much on his own, but what was clear to the both of them was that Raj had a knack for divination, more specifically arithmancy. Around the time he was 9 years old, he memorized the entire Chaldean numerology system, this one specifically because he couldn’t pronounce Pythagorean, made a game with basic numerology where any name he saw, he would make a life path number for it. Anneka Ivanova was no exception to this when Raj received his Hogwarts acceptance letter. Like the wizard he was, he broke down the head mistress’ entire name into the number sequence, 1 5 5 5 2 1 1 6 1 5 7 6 1, and kept adding them to each other until he was left with ‘1’ which stuck in his head for the longest time. He had never met this woman before, but the number seemed to compel him to have the utmost admiration for her.

House Request: Dealer’s choice

Personality:
Raj is an extremely sweet, and loving kid, but this doesn’t stop him from being diligent in what he wants. With this in mind, he can be a bit blunt with what he says, sometimes coming off as rude even though he doesn’t mean to be. Because of his affinity with numbers, Raj sees the world as a very literal place. Everything has a purpose, and nothing exists without reason. With this mindset, everything must be organized, he absolutely hates messes. He even finds slight discomfort when a stain is on his clothes.

Appearance:
Raj stands at 4’3” and just barely breaks 70lbs, being what his dad’s side of the family calls ‘skin and bones’ which he hated. This does not stump Raj’s confidence, able to speak up for himself with profound dignity. He has a bit of a snaggletooth which forces him to cover up mouth any time he laughs. If he can find a way get through something without smiling with his teeth, he’ll take it with no hesitation. Tousled black hair, thin eyebrows, and deep mahogany brown eyes make up most of his facial features.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character. Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not Evangeline's or Hugh's.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Roleplay Response
The day hardly started off well for Raj. He woke up bright and early so he could do a bit of exploring around the school, trying to spot nice places to study other than the library. So many ideas as to what kind of setting he’d pick came to mind. Just outside the Forbidden Forest was one, the peaceful looking forest filled with unknown dangers seemed serene enough to read a book just outside its borders.

After he had went back into the castle to have his breakfast, Raj noticed an older student moving about the Great Hall as if he lost something. It appeared that he found what he was looking for but whatever it was he was chasing it, all the way passed the entrance. Something inside him said to follow the boy, and with no hesitation, he obliged. Racing after him until he got into a field of flowers. The field was a perfect place to study. Reading while being surrounded by flowers seemed like such a beautiful idea to Raj, but what he saw next made him regret following the boy. He began to sneeze uncontrollably, making Raj shutter in disgust after each one had finished. His disgust only grew into nausea when he saw the boy wipe his nose on his sleeve. He looked away until the boy asked him a question, clutching what was apparently his pet rat that he was chasing.

“May I help you with something? It is not polite to stare.”

Raj thought to himself that what this boy was saying was a bit weird because telling him that wasn’t too polite either. He then thought maybe the boy was just playing around with him, that he was trying to make the air light because of what he had just seen. “Just wanted to tell you to watch out, you might get some on your rat.”, he said to him, pointing at the boys arm as he chuckled.
