Born to muggles; a bookshop owner, Finlay Moran and a seamstress, Penelope Moran. Callum always had an appreciation for the arts. Be it literature, embroidery, music or painting, Callum dabbled wherever he could. The streets of Belfast were cold and dreary, but that never managed to extinguish the fire that burnt in his heart.

His mother adored her little rosey cheeked son, and spent hours a day teaching her son the skills of her craft and how to express himself through art. The young boy absorbed everything, giving nothing more importance than anything else. His lack of bias towards people spread to the arts, and all he wanted to do what try it all.

As a young child, Callum spent most of his time helping out his father. His father however spent most of his time trying to keep the rambunctious from scaring away his customers and/or trying to burn the shop down. Callum enjoyed people no matter where they came from, how they looked or how they chose to dress, stranger danger is simply something he had never understood. To Callum, people were inherently good.

Callum's unfaltering trust is often a downfall of his, landing him in awkward situations and sticking him with helping people for no apparent reason. Callum runs with no ulterior motives, and this means he doesn't often look out for himself, or what's best for him.

When Callum first received his letter from Hogwarts, he couldn't have been more ecstatic. A whole new world that he had never even heard of, free for him to explore, it was a dream come true. Following a visit from Hogwarts staff, and a little explaining, Callum was on his way to become a wizard, and he simply couldn't wait.

Following the time warp, and the sudden disappearance of his parents, Callum's world seemingly crumbled around him. Noticing the same had happened to muggleborns around him, Callum slowly began to ease out of his shell once more and create a new family for himself with the friends he'd made in Hogwarts.

Through his first few years in Hogwarts, Callum was never exceptional in much. Running through every day like a new adventure and studying as much as he could, whilst enjoying his friends and the world around him of course. Callum soon realised that not only was he talented in the arts, but he was reasonably athletic, and trying out for Quidditch soon became a passion of his.

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

With a comical, to say the least, look of determination on his face, Callum glanced from flower patch to flower patch. His eyes scanned the ground before him and around him, determined to find the hiding creature for his fellow student. His head buried in the flower bed revealed only the back of his robes, sticking out into the air.

The sneeze visibly startled him. Throwing his head out of the flower patch, Callum exclaimed reflexively, "Merlin! Bless you!"

With hair pouring down onto his face and obscuring his vision, along with the disheveled state his robes had gotten into, Callum was most definitely not looking the cleanest. A rogue chuckle escaped his lips as he used a hand to lift his hair off his face, smoothening it back over his head.

The look of annoyance, clear on Hugh's face went right over Callum's head. Scratching the side of his hair and letting out yet another laugh he mutters, "He's picked quite the hiding spot hasn't he? Or was it a she, I'm so sorry! Well... I was under the impression it was you that needed the help, I don't suppose I need any help really..."

Callum's face warps into a quick frown, followed by a look of deep thought. "Well unless there's something I've lost and can't quite remember, were you helping me with something?" He asks questioningly.
