The way Isidore sees it, he has it made.

His parents are from influential, wealthy families from very different parts of the world. He’s on both the Soares and Tachibana main branches, close enough in the line for heir to be important, but far enough that he probably won’t wind up having to lead the family one day, unless his older cousin screws up majorly. As long as he stays on his family’s good side, marries a respectable pureblood girl (or, at least, doesn’t get too entangled with someone of a less desirable upbringing), doesn’t stick his nose into whatever his grandfather does that has people look at him with so much fear, and has a son to carry on the name, he’s set for life.

It’s the path his parents have taken. As middle children, Hana and Manuel have reaped all the benefits of coming from high society while skirting most of the responsibilities.

Hana is an artist. In her ample free time, she travels the world, learning new techniques, making masterpieces out of the new people and places she encounters. Manuel is… everything — a self-proclaimed “student of the world”, a polymath who masters a new obsession every year before getting bored and moving on. Embroidery, glassblowing, archery, fishing, potioneering, that one weird summer where he got really into insect farming, you name it, he’s done it.

His parents’ union, though arranged, is mostly pleasant. Both filled with wanderlust, they spend most of their time separated by an ocean, trading letters and trinkets, reunited by family events and pureblood galas. When they are together, they are the perfect picture of a happy couple, laughing at each other’s jokes and wrapping their arms around each other as if it’s something they do daily. They have an understanding, a deep respect for one another. Isidore has never heard either of them say anything bad about the other. His father doesn’t even mind when his mother’s quest for her newest masterpiece leads her into the arms of another muse. It’s unconventional, but it works for them; they’re free to do whatever they please.

Isidore’s never stayed in one place for a long time. His childhood has been a hectic one, a blur of ships, floo powder, trains, and portkey sickness. He follows his parents wherever the wind takes them. When Isidore’s older sisters got to the age where they could speak for themselves, they asked to stay home at the family manor.

Not Isidore. He’s never felt the need to settle down. The manor’s nice to stay at for a couple of months, but he always returns to his parents. Out in the world, there are no rules, no responsibilities. Just countless days lounging in the shade, reading in treetops, making angels in the snow, dancing to music in the rain. It’s like his life is a never-ending vacation.

Neither Hana nor Manuel have a parental bone in their body, but that’s fine. Isidore knows how to care for himself, and anything he can’t do, a servant can. As strange as his parents can be, they’re good company.

In the summer of 1974, his mother moved in with some rich English guy and spends most of her time making sculptures for his garden. His father’s latest obsession is learning how to sandsurf, whatever that is, and he’s off somewhere dry, scorching, and remote.

Isidore spent about a week with his dad before he got a nasty sunburn and moved with his mom. By August, he’d visited every museum in the area, tried every restaurant, every quirky shop. He’s bored, and his mother’s English affair’s face is so terribly ugly that every time Isidore looks at him, it puts him in a foul mood.

He’s ready for something new.

His parents have always had private tutors take care of Isidore’s education. But in his boredom, he decided that maybe going to school could be interesting. Come fall, he’s going to Hogwarts.

It can’t possibly be worse than the desert, or his mother’s new boyfriend’s disgusting haircut.

Personality:
Tell us a bit about your character’s personality (likes, dislikes, fears, etc.) What are they like on a good day versus a bad one? Is your character particularly cheerful? Do they hate sunlight?

If Isidore had to describe himself in one word, it would be worldly. Others may use pretentious.

Isidore can’t help it. He feels like, at this point in his life, he’s been almost everywhere and done almost everything. Through his travels and extensive reading, he’s learned a lot and doesn’t mind sharing it. Isidore is a lot like his father, though perhaps has a little more discipline; he’s quite intelligent, just lacking in drive.

He feels wiser than his years. He understands the way the world works and where he fits in it. Some people are meant to work their whole lives; others, like him, are meant to coast through with effortless confidence. That’s just how it is.

Isidore is by no means an extrovert, but he’s not shy, either. He enjoys solitude as much as he does a good party. Witty, observant, and artistic, Isidore has a habit of seeing the world (and everyone else in it) as something to be amused by, to be critiqued, studied, mocked, or played around with. Thanks to a lifetime spent navigating pureblood society, he can be charming when he wants to, cutting when he doesn’t. He has a sarcastic sense of humor that isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but if he’s laughing, it really doesn’t matter to him what other people are doing.

Because of his upbringing, he’s never had many close friends. He’s used to drifting in and out of people’s lives, never lingering anywhere long enough to learn how to truly be there for someone else. He is fun to hang around, but a complete flake. Isidore is interested in forging deeper connections, but isn’t sure how to go about it. He has faith in himself to figure it out.

Other core traits of Isidore are that he is restless, proud, and easily bored. He craves novelty and beauty. His pursuit of it is his driving force.

Appearance:
Briefly describe your character's appearance (hair color, build, stature, etc.) What effect does it have on their personality? For example, does the shy Ravenclaw girl secretly dye her hair black because she hates her natural blonde? Does the curly-haired Gryffindor use charms to hide his freckles?

Isidore has dark curls and darker eyes, and his tanned skin is freckled from long days reading at the beach. He is athletic, partly because he enjoys the movement, and party (probably mostly) because he’s vain. He takes pride in his appearance, dressing in fashionable clothes and decorating himself with jewelry, some collected from his travels, some hand-made by his mother.

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Roleplay Response:

The conversation at breakfast this morning was lacking. The gossip was stale, the jokes had been told many times before. Sometimes Isidore enjoyed the idle chatter of his housemates, but he wasn’t in the mood after spending so much time working on his essay last night. Isidore made quick work of his meal and ventured outside.

He wanted to feel the fresh air before he had to go to class. Who knew what the day would bring, if he would have time to enjoy the peace. Isidore leaned casually against a wall, taking lazy drags from a cigarette. He closed his eyes and leaned his head back so he could feel the sun on his face. The quiet of the early morning was nice.

Until some snotty-nosed doofus came lumbering over, making a mess of the gorgeous flowers to find a rat of all things. (Isidore still didn’t understand why they were such a popular choice in pet.) He sighed deeply, eyes fluttering open.

He did what he did best: observed. And Isidore did not like what he saw.

“Ugh.”

His face twisted in disgust. He didn’t remember if Hugh was his age, or a bit older. Either way, you would think someone that old would know how to use a handkerchief.

Isidore shrugged, not minding that Hugh caught him looking. He wouldn’t have anything to stare at if Hugh wasn’t putting on a show.

Never mind that at first, he didn’t seem to know Isidore was there.

“Impolite?” Isidore scoffed, rolling his eyes. This was Hogwarts. If Hugh was looking for polite company, he was in the wrong place. “I think decorum went out the window when you slathered snot all over your sleeve there, Hugh. Can I help you? Do you need a tissue, or something, or do you enjoy decorating your robes with boogers?”

His lips twisted into a slow, amused smile.

“Kind of an odd hobby.”
