→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name:  Benjamin Orellana Jr. (Benji)

Birthday:  January 5

Hometown:  Chelsea, London, England

Bloodline:  Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one):  Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one):  Transfiguration

Year (pick two):  4th, 5th

Biography:
Benjamin Orellana Jr. is the eldest child of Benjamin Sr. and his wife Ninon Dubois.  He is the older brother of Dienne Orellana, a Gryffindor at Hogwarts, and Judith Orellana who is still bossing around her primary school Muggle friends.  Benji is a natural born leader, full of persuasive charisma and a thirst for trouble.  As a common Orellana tradition, the children go to primary school as Muggles for as long as they can manage it.  Benji, who threw tantrums with magical consequences easily as if he was ejected from his mother's womb in a fit of impatience, learned how to breath through his feelings as he grew into a ringleader in his classes.  He went from the impulsive, chaotic, uncontrollable older brother, to a persuasive liar, capable of daring anyone to do anything and manipulating his way around them.  In the quiet moments to himself, he really wonders where this love of power came from, but he relishes it anyway.

Benji left his primary school days behind when he received his letter to Hogwarts.  He thought he was the greatest thing on earth, all arrogance and cocky street smarts.  But coming to Hogwarts his first year had been a rude awakening.  Suddenly, instead of being the coolest kid in class, the one everyone wanted to hang out with, he was at the bottom of the food chain.  It did not help that he wasn't a gifted wizard at all and struggled in all of his classes.  It felt like he was constantly cracking a joke or laughing at himself, to prevent people from seeing how truly upset his powerlessness was making him.  Benji went home after first year, all lies to his family about how amazing he'd been, and sank into further mischief that summer.  He returned to Hogwarts more surefooted, and definitely worse of a person.  That boyish arrogance was slowly degrading to reveal a boy intent on being one step ahead of everyone else.  If he knew more, or atleast knew the things that people wanted to know, then he'd be valuable.  He'd make himself valuable.

Benji set a goal for himself at Hogwarts and for his future from there on out.  He wanted to build a hustle.  He wanted to make something of himself, through his own power, and take what knowledge he could from whoever could add value to his life.  He would lie, he'd take advantage of people, whatever he needed to do, to make sure he could really elevate himself.

Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request:  Slytherin, please!

Personality:
Benji has a twisted personality and it's hard to tell which way it'll lean on a given day.  Even he can't tell if he feels like he's on the good side of the world or the bad side.  Some days, when he's joking with his friends or family, he feels like a normal, every day kid wanting to have fun and avoid school.  He likes that feeling.  But then he'll notice something, or say something a certain way, and realize he's saying and doings things to get something out of someone.  At this point it's unconscious effort to poke and prod to figure people out.  Those moments, Benji wonders why he feels so disconnected and empty from his body.  Why there's static eating him up from the inside, and why sometimes he needs to feel the rush of a win to feel anything.

Outwardly, Benji is cheerful, obnoxious, loud and annoying.  Unfiltered words can flow from his mouth easily.  His laugh is a braying noise, louder than it is funny.  He loves Quidditch, likes being outdoors, likes fooling around, and enjoys reading comics and magazines over doing any amount of schoolwork.  He's loyal to his friends, loves his family, and, when found, the good parts of him are a wholesome teenage boy who just wants to be remembered.  He doesn't like magical creatures, seafood, and cowards.

On the inside, Benji is calculating.  He's cultivated an annoying personality to set people on edge.  His speech can seem stupid, but if he wants something specific, he'll make people think anything of him to get it:  a hapless lad, a misunderstood boy, an idiotic liar, a gossiper.  At times, he can be a not good person.  Time will tell if he'll stay on that path.

Appearance:
Benji is a tall, growing boy.  He has the Orellana genes, so will end up over six feet tall by his adulthood.  He has curly brown hair that he lets grow long to any distance across his ears and leaves in a disheveled, attractive mess.  He has dark eyes beneath dark brows.  His teeth are straight and white in a tanned face.  He has a thick, muscular frame than most boys his age as he has a monstrous appetite combined with an obsession with running about outdoors and playing as much Quidditch as possible.  His face is usually lively, his gestures big, and he's always ready to flash a smile, a smirk, or a wink in whatever direction is needed.  What he's wearing depends on the occasion.  If he's trying to impress, he'll dress in his best, and try to effect the look of a man rather than a boy.  If he's in for a good time, find him in casual shorts, tee, and hoodie.  If he's trying to be sneaky or intimidating, find Benji decked out in his favorite dark clothes and a serious, mocking expression on his face.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Roleplay Response:

"Nope!  Emma Birch is not here!"  came a booming voice in the tone of a laughing teen boy.  Benji Orellana had cupped his hands about his mouth and purposely shouted into the endless void of the dungeons, all to see how the small blonde girl would react.  He'd escaped to the dungeons for his own peace and quiet.  The stone walls and floor a comfort, its darkness a familiar friend as his fingers brushed against the walls as he walked.  He'd been mouthing the latest spells taught in Transfiguration, still not able to remember the whole string of words that would turn his quill into a knife.  Rather than be seen studying, he'd fled to the dungeons for some peace.

That peace had been disturbed though, midway through his next Commutati black--I mean--ater!, when he heard someone's voice.  And he hadn't been able to resist pranking her.

Pushing away from the shadowed wall he'd been crouching against, Benji approached the blonde.  "Sorry, having a bit of a laugh.  Who's this Emma Birch you're looking for?  I dunno who that is or if she's here."  Benji flashed the younger girl an amused smile.  "I'm Benji.  You're not one of the new Slytherins, are you?  What are you doing down here?"

Biography: (300 words minimum.)

Hollis Thornton was born on the unlucky day of October 4th.  Like unlucky number 13, the number 4 was viewed with superstitious dread from his South Korea based parents.  Born the only son of the Thornton family, his parents would end up struggling to provide him a sibling to continue the Thornton legacy.  His family had been dwindling generation by generation, until it was simply him, his parents, and a far distance relation who lived in the U.S.  Despite being born on a perceived unlucky day, Hollis was a loving, warm, friendly, and generous child from the beginning.  Inquisitive and social, Hollis always strove to make friends wherever he was, whether that was neighborhood friends or the old grandmothers and grandfathers in the community.  He was homeschooled up until his parents migrated from South Korea to the U.K. to enroll him in Hogwarts.

Hollis came in as a strange student to Hogwarts:  he from a completely different culture, transferring in his second year, and not at all in tune with British way of doing things.  Not one to back down from a challenge, Hollis spent his days and nights striving to fit in and learn all he could about how to live with his peers within Hogwarts walls.  Hollis was just as friendly a student as he had been a child.  He'd taken on bumbling through Quidditch, and fought to involve himself albeit shallowly in any activity or event available.  While not necessarily good at school work, Hollis pushed to befriend as many people as possible and be perceived as someone fun to be around.

Tragedy struck at the summer before his fourth year at Hogwarts.  Teenage rebellion had set in for the boy who had been raised in a tightly traditional, close minded family.  His parents had urged him to focus more on his studies rather than his friends, and he'd argued intensely, culminating into a shouting session with his father, and Hollis storming out of their deteriorating manor.  He'd return to his home, destroyed, and his parents, gone from his life.  His neighbors would tell him it was an accident, nay an attack, nay a divined act from God.  He was hard pressed to remember what happened in that time, still unclear on what exactly the authorities had told him.

Hollis was packed away to live with his great-uncle from his mother's side in the suburbs of Massachusetts, USA.  Numb with loss, and unable to bond with the hard-of-sympathy ancient lizard that was his great uncle, Hollis was enrolled at Ilvermorny to finish up his magical schooling.  He sunk even further into friends, fun, and learning, taking more and more of an interest in the culture around him to understand how the people around him behaved.

After he graduated and his great-uncle bequeathed him the last bit of inheritance from the Thornton line, it was easy to see what path he would go down:  study sociology, and ingrain himself in the lives of the communities around him, to understand how they lived.  Some part of it was because he genuinely was interested in lives and loves lost.  The part hidden to Hollis, that consumed his soul and hid in the shadows of his heart, was the part that kept him on the outside, looking in.  Staring through the glass at all the happiness around him, and not sure if he'd be happy like the ones inside, if he'd be worthy of it.

Hollis wiled away getting a Doctorate while offering his services as a hands on researcher for MACUSA.  His objectives were to be sent everywhere and anywhere, gain information of the society and culture living there presently, and report back any political or trade relevant information.  He's moved from place to place for months on end, became adept at apparating and using the Floo network, and enmassing 'friends' wherever he went to keep in touch.

Currently, he can be found back in London and the U.K., joining the Department of International Magical Cooperation in hopes of being sent everywhere to continue field research.  Hollis is still trying to find himself in all the places he visits, but gives everyone he meets his full loving attention to make sure they remember him.

Roleplay:

Option Two -
The snow had been falling steadily all morning and it didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon. Joshua Campbell scrunched his face up in a frown as he lifted his gaze to look to the sky. Snow. It really was quite a bother.

And it certainly didn't make it better that Diagon Alley seemed to be getting more and more crowded. Joshua sighed and pointed his wand at the large box that was currently placed on the doorstep of his shop. He had to get going. He had an order to deliver.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" The elderly man muttered and watched the box hover in the air for a moment. Honestly, did St. Mungo's really need that much tinsel? And with glitter of all things? He sighed again. If it hadn't been for the rather convincing stamp on the order, he would have been likely to believe it had been a prank by one of those orphaned rascals living up there.

Oh well, there was no point in waiting. Joshua deftly stirred the box down the doorstep and out onto the street, carefully levitating it above the heads of the crowd.

"Coming through! Coming through!" His voice sounded over the chatter of the crowd. "Keep out! Move ahead! Go on!" This was going way too slow. People were in the way and walking like they had all day! He huffed. Luckily the road was down hill.

"Coming through! Coming th--- arrrgh!" Joshua let out a loud shout as his feet suddenly slipped in the snow and sent him, the box, and several long strands of tinsel tumbling into the person who had been walking in front of him.

"For Merlin's sake!" Joshua muttered angrily as he hurried to his feet again, red and gold tinsel now decorating his black coat. "I am so sorry! This blasted snow!" He looked apologetic at the person he had crashed into.

Roleplay Response:

Hollis breathed into his gloves hands, pressing the warm air to his pale cheeks as he meandered his way up Diagon Alley.  His stomach was deliciously full from the large order he'd partaken in from the pub.  Fantastic stew with perfectly crusty bread, paired with a generous beer, and foodie Hollis Thornton was satisfied.  He was on a leisure stroll today, as he tended to be every day, leaving the solitary confines of his tiny studio apartment to seek the activity of the Alley and its surrounding partners.

Thoughts of his latest report outlining the financial gains of investing in improving global trade routes for horklump juice flitted in and out of the cheery man's mind, as he took in the latest window displays across the shops and for all intent, appearing as a tourist seeing the sights.  The Apothecary shop may warrant a visit to discuss their opinion on his report, so he could incorporate any good feedback.  Perhaps he'd ought to dip into the local bakery to purchase persuasions so the shopkeeper would complain more to Hollis on what other items were getting harder to procure.

Faintly, he could hear some noise over the crowded alley, as he turned to note the latest books available at Blackwood Books.  Snow peppered his dark hair and dotted his shoulders, making the wool heavy and damp, but Hollis paid it no mind.  The book looked fascinating, but he'd have to wait for his next paycheck to make the decision, or see if a friend recommended it to him.

Turning away from the window, Hollis continued his leisurely crunching up the Alley.  Yards later, having taken a second look at a well dressed brunette inside one of the stores, Hollis was suddenly beset by body, box, and tinsel.

"Coming through! Coming th--- arrrgh!"

Stumbling, Hollis caught himself on his knees in the wet snow.  Already the elderly man who had tumbled into him was on his feet again, apologizing.  Hollis turned and stood, brushing damp snow from legs.  "Not a problem!"  Hollis offered, smiling warmly at the man, dark eyes creasing characterstically at the edges in a secondary smile.  He reached out a cajoling hand.  "Truly, not an issue.  Are you alright, sir?"  Hollis grinned, picking at the tinsel draped over his shoulders, gesturing at the fallen box.  "Do you need some help carrying that?"

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:

"John, I said wait up!"

Benjamin Orellana Jr. lurched up from his bench, comic book sliding off his face along with a trail of accompanying drool.  "Huh--wh--m'names not John--" Benji blinked blearily in the direction of the voice, spying a tiny girl riding a broom that was better off being used to sweep floors for all the distance it cleared.  But she hadn't been addressing him.  A glance at the sky past the three boys overhead told him he'd been at the park long past the time he'd told his Mum he'd be back.  Benji groaned, then stretched long limbs high in the air, cracking his neck.

A nap in the sun had been the best idea ever.  Granted, he'd been avoiding chores and dodging his Mum's nagging, but he'd blame the nice weather on his need to play truant.  With another stretching groan in pleasure, Benji swung his legs off the bench he'd been lying on to plant firm in the ground.  He stared at the dirt as if it would clear the cobwebs away from whatever schemes he needed to concoct in his mind.

"You!  ...Do you want to play?"

Looking up, Benji squinted at the tiny barking girl then grinned.  "Sure," he said slowly, looking from her to the toy broom it looked like she'd stuffed into the earth.  "But are we riding your doohickey or big kid brooms?  Cause, I've got mine back here."  He gestured a thumb behind the bench to his hand-me-down but well-functioning broom leaning against the back.  "And it's wicked."

Roleplay Response:

"You're slower than a pigeon, man!  It's called flying, not floating!"  Benji Orellana cried, laughing far too loudly as he zoomed ahead of the other two boys on their broomsticks, the snitch they were chasing just a flicker of gold in the yellow sunlight.  Benji had been flying on brooms since he could walk, so deeply seated in his blood was love of flight.  Regularly soaking in the pride and joy of his Quidditch coach father didn't hurt a bit either, especially when he'd been gifted a hand-me-down well-functioning broom just that summer as an award for passing his second year at Hogwarts.  Flying circles around these kids just kept stroking the hot blood and confidence of this dark-haired, dark-eye boy.

"John, I said wait up!" came a squeal from a small scrap of being on the ground below them.

"Mate, your sister is like a loud little piglet.  Oink oink," Benji smirked at John, intentionally trying to rile the other boy up.  Looking down at Dienne sitting on a bench absently sewing, and his other sister playing in the sandbox, Benji pulled hard on his broom to loop back and slow closer to the ground to check on the squealing small girl.  He was getting bored of chasing the tiny snitch anyway when the competition was so sad anyway.  The girl looked to be barking at a random person, and Benji couldn't resisting gliding over to stir up the pot.

"I wouldn't if I were you, bud," Benji drawled at the person Janey was addressing.  He twiddled his fingers smugly at little Janey.  "Janey here likes to cheat a ton, don'tcha Janey?"  His dark eyes glimmered wickedly behind his raised eyebrows.
