Biography:  Patrick Flynn was serving as an Ambassador to the United States when he met Claire Garland who was working as a waitress at a diner to put herself through college.  After a few years of a long-distance relationship, Patrick convinced Claire to move to London, England with him.  Two years later they were married, and about a year later welcomed twin girls – Teagan and Reilly – to the family.  Thinking that their family was complete, when the twins were five and off to school, Claire started working at a pediatric nurse.  It came as a surprise two years later when Claire found out she was expecting another baby, and exactly eight years (to the day) of the birth of their twins, Patrick and Claire welcomed their third baby girl, Chloe.  Where the twins were spitting images of their mother – blonde hair and blue eyes – Chloe was a spitting image of her father.  She was always tall for her age, unusually skinny (thanks to a fast metabolism), had fiery-red hair, green eyes, and countless freckles.  The only resemblance Chloe had to her mother was her long, curly locks of hair.

When Chloe was three, something so very strange had occurred.  Since Chloe looked so different from the two of them, the twins loved to tease her that she was adopted and that one day mom and dad would decide that they didn’t want her anymore and take her back to the orphanage where they got her.  Chloe was so mad and upset, but to her surprise a pipe in the kitchen burst, soaking her sisters from head-to-toe.  She never could explain what happened, but her dad knew.  That night at dinner, he explained to his wife and daughters for the first time that he was a wizard and he served as a Wizard Ambassador to the Muggle world, not an English Ambassador.
Claire could not believe that he had kept his “magic” a secret all these years and filed for divorce the next day.  Claire took the girls and moved back to the United States and told the girls they would never see their dad again.

Two years later, Chloe started attending school.  She was constantly being teased for her red hair and that she was “different,” though no one could exactly tell what was different about her.  Because of this, Chloe didn’t have many friends.  Instead, she just focused on her schoolwork.  Over the next couple of years, Chloe began to excel in school; history and writing were her favorite subjects.  A few days before winter break of her third grade year, Chloe’s teacher handed back a writing prompt entitled “What I Want Most for Christmas.”  Chloe became outraged when she saw a grade of “F” on her paper.  Thumbing through the paper there was not a red mark in sight, however on the back page there was a message that read, “Chloe, there is no such thing as a REAL magic.  You should have picked something more tangible, such as a board game or teddy bear.  This was not supposed to be a fictional prompt, so I have no choice put to fail you for this assignment.”  Upon reading the last word, Chloe’s paper burst into flames causing widespread panic in the classroom and evacuation of the school.  Shortly before the start of spring term, Chloe’s mom received a letter in the mail stating that she had been expelled for setting a fire in the school.  Claire felt that since her daughter inherited her father’s magical ability, it would be best for Chloe to go back to England to live with her dad.

At first Chloe felt abandoned by her own mother, so much in fact that she has not spoke to her mom since she moved in with her dad.  As time passed on, Chloe has found that she enjoyed living with her dad.  Patrick agreed with Claire that there was no doubting that Chloe would be invited to Hogwarts when she turned “of age.”  Though he had a short amount of time, he told Claire of his time as a student at Hogwarts and taught her all he could about the magical world.  When he was sent away on business by the Ministry, Chloe stayed with her grandparents who were both of wizarding decent.  Their family was unique, as her grandfather was in Slytherin and her grandmother was in Hufflepuff.  Chloe’s father had been in Gyffindor, so Chloe wondered where she would fit in once she got to Hogwarts.  Only time will tell, but she does know that she will fit in much better there then she did at home in the states!

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Please include these sections if they are not addressed in your biography.

Personality: Tell us a bit about your character’s personality.  Chloe is extremely studious.  Though she does well in most subjects, her favorites are history, writing, and reading.  Chloe also dabbling a bit in the arts, and is working on becoming an accomplished pianist.  Due to being raised most of her life by a muggle mother with muggle sisters and being labeled as “different,” Chloe has never been especially close to anyone.  She had a few acquaintances, but no real true friends and would probably be labeled as being “socially awkward.”  Despite not having many friends, Chloe is particularly warm-hearted and has a smile that would “light up the room” as her grandmother says.

Appearance:
Briefly describe your character's appearance (hair color, build, stature, etc.) What effect does it have on their personality?  Chloe is tall and skinny, with long, naturally curly fiery-red hair that cascades down to the middle of her back.  Her green eyes and long eye lashes are probably her second most distinguishing attribute, only to the countless freckles that sit upon her face.  She is naturally beautiful and has looks that any young girl would die for, but she has yet to believe in her true beauty.

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY
You come across one of these three posts on the site. Please reply to one only as your character would.
*** Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not James' or Astrid's.

Option I:

Blimey, the Great Hall was packed. It seemed like everywhere a guy looked there was some clown waving around a House banner or yelling about the game.

'Can you believe it?' 'No way!' 'This must be the biggest upset in Hogwarts Quidditch history...'

Stupid Quidditch.

James flopped into an empty seat at the end of the table, shoved an empty plate out of the way, and let his head sink onto his crossed arms, squishing his freckled nose down flat against the tabletop. He wasn't sure why he'd even bothered to come here, since he definitely wasn't hungry. He'd probably never eat again, in fact. He didn'tdeserve to eat. He hadn't stopped in the locker room to change out of his muddy, sweaty uniform after the game either, because he was pretty sure he probably didn't deserve to be clean too; and anyway he couldn't stand to see the looks on his team mates' faces after he blew their chance at winning one of the biggest games they had ever played.

Just one lousy shot. That's all it would have taken. If he could have just got that one stupid foul shot to go through that one stupid hoop, they could have won and he wouldn't have been the biggest blockhead in the entire school.

As if to prove the point, half the people at the next table suddenly broke into a loud victory chant. James pressed his face further into his arms to hide the bright red blotches he could feel creeping up his cheeks. That was it. He was just going to have to run away and move to Nova Scotia. He'd just cost the three-year-in-a-row Champions the Quidditch Cup! How do you ever live that one down for crying out loud? He was only a second year and he was going to spend the rest of his life as 'that dumb cry-baby kid who dropped the Quaffle!'

It felt like every set of eyes in the room was boring into him, and James couldn't stand it anymore. He jerked himself back up from the table and stomped right back out of the Hall the same way he had come in. As he stormed into the quieter hallway outside, he could hear footsteps somewhere behind him. James rounded on the sound and began to shout, his brown eyes shining with tears. "WHAT! Haven't you ever seen a loser before? Why don't you just take a picture!"

Sample Roleplay Response:  It’s just a stupid game, Chloe thought to herself.  Yes, James play did cost the team the house cup and end their three-year winning streak, but it was still no excuse to treat one of their own house members this way!  Watching as James left the Great Hall, Chloe swallowed her fear and followed him.  She was unsure of what to say to comfort him, but knew that at a time like this he needed a friend, not 100 enemies.

“WHAT!  Haven’t you ever seen a loser before?  Why don’t you just take a picture!”

“I don’t want to take a picture,” Chloe quickly retorted.  “Besides, your face is as red as my hair and that never makes for a good picture.”  Chloe, shocked at the word exiting her mouth, quietly chuckled to herself.

“Winning isn’t everything James,” Chloe continued.  “You tried your best and that’s all that any of us could have asked for.  Anyone can say, ‘I would have made that shot.’ But I bet anyone in our house who would have been in your position would have made the same mistake 99 out of 100 times.  Everyone can say that would do it different, but words aren’t actions and their not the ones out playing that barbaric game.”

Without pausing to see if James would interject, rhetorically Chloe asked, “Have you learned anything from today’s loss?”  Chloe paused.  “I’m sure you have.  Maybe you’ve learned what to different next time, and I’m sure you’ve learned what not to do next time.  If you learn from your mistakes and that learning makes you a better player, than you’re really not a loser at all.”

Without waiting for a reply, Chloe turned to walk away.  She couldn’t believe that she had just talked to James – someone she barely knew, but she knew that at a time like this he just needed to hear that not everyone hated him for losing the game.

She turned around, and as if she could read James’ mind said, “Besides, I’ve been to Nova Scotia with my mom on holiday.  You wouldn’t like it.”  She flashed James a smile, then turned and left.
