→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Declan O’Connor

Birthday: December 8th 1954

Hometown: Cork, County Cork, Ireland

Bloodline: Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one): Divination

Year (pick two): 1st (preference), 2nd

Biography:
Declan O’Connor was born into the dramatic, both literally and figuratively. His parents, Brian and Elise, were both born into well-appointed families within the wizarding community, yet they shunned their magical heritage in scandalous fashion, preferring to devote their lives to the theater. Leaving their families and fortunes behind, the O’Connors settled in Cork, quickly finding their way to a theater troupe that welcomed them with open arms. Elise, beautiful and graceful quickly found herself in many leading roles within the company’s productions. Brian, a talented actor in his own right, and also a handy carpenter found side work in assisting with the building of stage pieces and sets. By the time they welcomed their son Declan into the world, they had attained no small measure of success within their new lives. By this time, Brian was a production director in charge of running the stage and Elise had turned her attentions to writing, directing, and producing plays. Declan’s parents have a slightly tenuous relationship with his Grandparents, whom despite their distaste for the life choices of their own children, lavish affection upon Declan at any given opportunity which has somewhat led to a reconciliation between parent and grandparent. He is an only child.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Gryffindor

Personality:
Declan is a poet at heart. He prefers the company of a good book to that of his peers, usually, but he is far from shy. Declan embraces all things artistic and beautiful, and nothing is more artistic than words in his opinion. In his spare time, Declan enjoys reading anything he can get his hands on, and writing. Declan is also a huge fan of Quidditch, some of his favorite memories being yearly pilgrimages with his Dad to the world cup or just tossing the quaffle back and forth together. His favorite team is the Ballycastle Bats. He is a loyal and dedicated friend, ready to lend a sympathetic ear and advice when needed, and will fiercely stand up for his friends with a scathingly sharp wit. Declan has a propensity for being a jokester, with a mischievous sense of humor. He might best be described as roguish. He takes very little seriously, save for quidditch and generally harbors no grudge. He usually has a witty retort or quip at the ready, regardless of the situation. He does his best to get along with everyone. Even his most intense rivalries have never been hostile, staying at a level of mutual respect at worst. Declan very much believes there are no strangers, just friends you haven’t met yet.

Appearance: Declan is slender and slight of build, but quick and agile. He has dark hair that is a rich shade lying somewhere between chocolate and espresso. His eyes also favor a deep brown with honey gold flecks. He has a fair complexion highlighting his darker features. Declan carries himself with a conservative and neutral posture. His fashion is relaxed and eclectic, favoring comfort and function over fashion, though he has been known to clean up rather well.

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Declan was sitting under his favorite tree on the castle grounds. Ever since he arrived, things had been so hectic and he had yet to find time to simply sit and breathe, until today that is. The tree was an enormous old oak that had probably seen centuries, and its branches grew out in a gigantic canopy casting a lovely shadow over the ground, but the sun struck in a way that didn’t make it seem dark beneath the old tree. It was a perfect place to relax and take in the natural beauty of the castle grounds.

September was a transitional month, with the lazy days of summer giving way to the shorter autumn ones. The air became a bit more bracing, and it was a wet month. Those who were apt to do so could enjoy the beginnings of color changes in the various flora all throughout the castle grounds, and pumpkins could be seen growing large and plump, no doubt with a certain degree of magical help. It wasn’t at all uncommon to see students wandering outside, some clad in light jackets or heavy cloaks, others wearing simple jumpers to ward off a chill. There was a curious fellow Declan took notice of, however as he set his book down beside him and regarded the other student with a degree of curiosity.

The other student was on all fours, frantically crawling through flowerbeds, apparently searching for something though Declan knew not what it was. The poor fellow was having a time of it, however. He was clearly not at all comfortable, having been seized by sneezing fits. Had he not been alone, and had Declan not known better (or so he hoped, more likely) he might have thought the other boy were the victim of some other child’s hex or jinx. As it was, however, the boy merely crawled about and let out a jarring sneeze. He drew himself up off the ground, and while wiping his nose morosely on the hem of his sleeve, he took note of Declan.
"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

The boy spat his query at Declan with something that seemed aloof and proud but because the boy clearly was suffering from some form of hay fever and his sinuses were choked with congestion, it merely came off as pompous and insipid to Declan who tried to offer a disarming smile and wave of his hand, as if to dismiss the notion.

“Sorry, I wasn’t trying to stare, friend. It just seemed as though you might’ve lost something important, and I was about to offer you a hand finding it,” he said, waiting for the other boy to take in his words, and hoping his genuine offer of assistance would diffuse some of the tension between them. “Otherwise, if you’ve got things under control, I can just go back to my book,” he continued and trailed off, leaving the sneezing mess before him to ponder the situation and either accept or reject his offer.
