Birthday: 4 December 1951

Hometown: Sevenoaks, England

Bloodline:
Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination

Year (pick two):

Biography:

The Valentyne family, in Rhea’s well-informed opinion, should have stopped having children a decade and a half ago – but her parents, Ngaire and Roman, loudly claimed that their ever-growing brood of children meant that they had found love in a world of arranged marriages. As if anyone might believe that.

Roman Valentyne had announced the birth of a son and heir, Amory, shortly after he married his wife; and a daughter, Billie, who followed within two years. At first, they had been a picturesque family, two beautiful children to carry on the family name, and broker alliances with other strong purebloods, but Amory had proved to be a poorly boy, falling ill each time the skies wept with rain.

When he was three, his parents sought a second son, another heir to secure their family line – just in case. Unfortunately, they birthed a daughter, instead, Rhea. Nine and a half months later, Jude followed, an all was right in the world again. Four children, and the family name was secure.

They might have stopped there, had Roman not stepped out on his wife more than once, and the furious negotiations that followed to avoid scandal led to Ngaire demanding another child. A patchwork baby, designed to patch over the cracks in their scandalous marriage – and they received two for the price of one. Quinn and Cooper were cherub like babes, innocents until they could toddle and then troublemakers by nature.

Rhea was a quintessential middle child; often forgotten about in her parents’ preoccupation to ensure that Amory was fit to succeed, Jude was prepared should he fail, and that Billie understood the importance that played in securing wealth and power.

It had shaped her into a fiercely independent teenager, able to hold her own in most situations, calm under pressure and dismissive of other’s opinions. She never keen to hold her tongue. Rhea had spent a majority of her life doing whatever she pleased, so long as she appeared at the occasional function, and didn’t humiliate the family. Her grades from Hogwarts barely mattered, and her parents didn’t pick her classes or pressure her one way or the other.

It was exactly how she preferred her life. Enjoying the luxury of the family name without any of the responsibility.

Before her next year Hogwarts, however, Billie’s match with a prominent family is secured, and with her sister preparing to waltz down the aisle, Rhea realises her parents turn their attention in her direction. It's not a change she’s not prepared to face.

→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.

House Request: Slytherin or Ravenclaw

Personality:

Rhea is wildly independent, and she hates relying on others or having to ask for help. She speaks her mind and but struggles to admit to a mistake or gap in her own knowledge. Rhea would cut off her nose in spite of her pretty face.

Appearance:

With eyes as blue as a robin’s egg and skin kissed gold by the sun, Rhea has inherited her fair share of Valentyne genetics. She has thick brows and pouty lips, her honey-coloured hair kinked with unruly waves, which are often piled in a thick bun on top of her head if she’s concentrating.

Rhea dresses mostly in black and white, hating to add colour to her wardrobe beyond her makeup, she often ‘forgets’ key parts of her uniform for that reason, and since starting at Hogwarts claims to have lost hundreds of ties.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Her heart was ricocheting in her chest, a loud thump, thump, thumping protest of the danger of her actions. Rhea slipped out of the potion’s classroom, tucking a small glass vial and a bundle of sage into her skirt pocket and smoothing the front of her uniform. The weight of it bounced against her thigh with every step, a reminder that she wasn’t out of the woods just yet.

There was something boring about the rich little girl taking a five fingered discount when she wanted something, but Rhea couldn’t help herself. It was an impulse she found impossible to control and the stakes steadily rose. If she could take an ingredient one week or two, a whole vial of a pale green liquid this time, then who was to say that she couldn’t get her hands on a bottle of felix felicis in the future.

Not because she needed it, just to prove she could.

When she turned the corner, some girl was crying out for Emma Birch. The same old prank that happened every year, someone dared a first year down in search of a ghost that didn’t exist. Rhea would have to warn the twins before they came to the school. The girl, however, would be the perfect distraction if a professor were to come slinking around.

Rhea raked her fingers through her hair and flashed a pearly smile at the girl. “You’re looking for Emma?” She asked, aiming for friendly. She liked to think of herself as a chameleon, easily slipping into camouflage, whether it was true or not was another matter.

“Don’t worry, it took me forever to find her the first time I looked.” Rhea lied, twisting on her heel and turning to one of the dark doors lining the corridor. She yanked it open, the shadowed inside of the room closet hard to discern until you were in it. “She’s always hiding in here!”

She waited. Her free hand reaching for her wand, prepared to lock the girl in if she went in. That was the price paid when looking for Emma Birch, and hopefully, a crying, traumatised first year meant nobody would notice that someone had raided the potions stores.
