Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.
Name: Jack Coleson

Birthday: December 24, 1933

Hometown: London

Bloodline: Muggleborn

Magical Strength (pick one): Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one): Divination

Year (pick two): First Year-Second Year
Biography: Torn from his own timeline and thrown into an alternate one, Jack was left completely alone from the start with no context or explanation as to why a boy of Japanese descent ended up in London of all places, he grew up as a street urchin among many during the times that lead into World War II. His unusual finesse for the art and his seemingly uncanny sense of stealth allowed him to pull some of the most daring sleights of hand, giving him both the wealth he need for food and shelter, and the knowledge and materials he required, teaching himself the bits and pieces of mechanical engineering he required for his dream project: the first ever concealable grappling hook, and the parts to bring it to life and fruition.

Life from there was rather pleasant, or at least as pleasant as it could be for a thriving pickpocketer, and he had become agile and fleet of foot enough to run from most ambushes from other, envious thieves, and wise enough to avoid certain alleyways and districts to prevent getting ambushed in the first place. And backed into a corner? He learned from some of the scraps he's been in, learned about the human anatomy. He knew how to fell the biggest of bullies, where to strike, and how it'd debilitate the thief on the receiving end. And yet, all of his knowledge...most of it would cease to matter for a time, one fateful day.

Back from another successful spree, he returned to his hideout in the sewers of the less densely populated urbans of London, only to be met an owl to the face and a mysterious letter addressed to him and solely him. It frightened him. Shocked him. Dazed and awed him beyond all comprehension. A letter. For him. And he didn't even have an address to mail it to.

He had to open it, of course. It was destiny, and he wouldn't keep the lady herself waiting. With his wits and streetwise, he found his way to where he needed to be, and passing through the first pillar, he tumbled into a whole 'nother world. It all began to click into the place: the signs he'd seen before. How he could just steal thing in plain sight some times and...people just didn't notice. How every now and then he'd end up with a little more dosh than he remembered pilfering, and how on one very vivid occasion, the glass on the display case for a set of jewelery vanished all together as he reached over. It didn't really reveal who he was or why he ended up in this world, alone, but it was a start at least and...now he was finally going off to learn and become educated.

None of his little heists could ever top the adrenaline rush he felt stepping onto that train for the first time.

House Request: Ravenclaw

Personality: Intelligent, clever, and but a little brazen. Jack is very tactical when it comes to his art, which almost always involves theft or obtaining access to areas normally restricted to him and others, using his experience as an urchin to slip past to and fro undetected. But when he's not up to his tricks, his mind will crave knowledge more than adrenaline rushes. So far his interests and pursuits lie in mechanical engineering, though it is solely a means to an end for his project: a concealable grappling hook, and will most likely absorb information about the new wizarding world like a sponge when given the chance.

From the start, the boy is a bit shy with others. Well, perhaps wary would be a more accurate description, given the nature of his upbringing. Out of his shell, however, he is quite the cheeky wisecracker, and quick of wit when it comes to terrible puns and snide remarks just as he is when it comes to puzzles and mysteries. This is not to say he acts cheeky out of malice. It is merely a coping mechanism: making light and poking fun of the world around him to ease his own anxiety and reluctance in living through it on his own.

It should also be noted that he has a tendency to talk with himself more than others. Perhaps this will change in the coming years ahead of him?

Appearance: With a height of 5' 3" and a rather staggering low weight of 68 lbs, Jack is rather scrawny despite his eating habits and his fitness. His eyes are jade, his skin flushed with a lively tan, and his hair a rougeish jet black and left wild n' messy. His street clothes consists of a well-worn pair black tennis shoes, a tattered white t-shirt, a disheveled pair of kahkis and a scuffed leather jacket that's a bit too big for him.

Ironically (or perhaps not so much), his uniform would be immaculate, well cared for, and worn properly with quite a bit of pride, everything from the robes down to the tie.

Option 1

The dungeons. A wonderful place to be honest. Imagine being a knight, tromping around here, looking for goblins to gut and slay. Exhilarating, and exhilarated Jack was as he swept through the winding corridors with parchment wrapped around a piece of flat wood, and a quill. A little ink jar hung by a string around his neck. Today's little excursion involved a little bit of cartography, and bully! He was having a good time mapping out the dungeons, looking for ghosts, goblins, and treasure a plenty!

...No luck thus far, but lo! A voice from the twist and crook of the stoney hall! An unsuspecting victim waiting to be spooked? The grin across the little runt's face screamed yes.

“Nope!” Jack shouted as he popped out right in front of her, just as she passed into his slice of the dungeons, grinning big and wide like he usually did.

“None but me and the ghosts, aye?” He gave her a playful nudge, his smug expression seemingly brightening up these dark and oppressive halls. “No worry love, I hear they a' plenty down these parts of the Hog's Warts! An' who bettah t' find 'em then y' pal Jack, ye? Come on then, let's get down to hunting!”
With that he consulted with his homemade, work-in-progress map, spin in place a few times before eventually setting off down a seemingly random corner of the dungeon. “Come along then, nothin' to be afraid! Well, 'cept for getting lost, but that's what I'm here for!”

After letting her catch up, he'd continue down the chosen path of the dungeon, quietly drawing out this portion of the dungeon on his map. He stopped every now and then to wet the tip of his quill with ink, before continuing his work. But Jack wasn't entirely there. And for good reason. His concern, immediately, was with the girl that was clearly younger than he was. Why was she down here? He gave a passing glance to her emblem.

The answer struck him as soon as he asked it. He always was grateful for his exceptional logic and reasoning skills.

“Your uh...housemates, I guess you'd call them. They put you up to this, hm?” He inquired as he turned the corner, jotting down the next bit of the dungeon without batting an eye. “...Fools seem to think that you can do something stupid, dangerous, and pat ye'self on the back n' call yourself brave, like it's a badge to be worn. They're only half right.”

The little guy leaned over and inspected one of the walls, jotting down a footnote on the side. He'd need to come back to that one later. “Look. I'm thirteen, I still got a long way ta' go, plenty t' learn, and a boat load of mistakes to make. But let me make somethin' clear for you. Bravery is what you do in spite of fear, doing what you can even when you are already scared. But it also means doing the right thing even when it could very well cost you y' life, or ye' friend.”

He stopped...clarity struck him as the words came together. Jack knew exactly what to say in this very moment, and he dare not let this moment pass.

“...Sometimes bravery means standing up to ye' peers, even when you're afraid they might laugh at you, or shun you. There's not a single thing that's wrong with wanting t' live.”

Jack smiled to himself as he continued on, rather proud at such a wonderfully worded piece of wisdom pouring from his young lips. He jotted the quote down to the side on the map to remember later. That one was a keeper.

...What was that thumping noise?
