Long Description (200 words min):Dienne Orellana has always walked the line between Magical and Muggle. Growing up, Dienne avoided people like they were contagious with their stupid, and threw herself into learning hobbies to occupy herself. In particular, she was obsessed with mechanical technologies, which blossomed into her lifelong dream: to become a lady inventor and business owner who provides custom mechanical technology solutions to paying customers. Her trademark is a solution that is a blend of Muggle and Magical.
Introducing: Oil & Rain.
Located on an off alley corner not on the main street of Diagon Alley, Oil & Rain is a garage. Double wide garage doors open up into a large mechanical garage space, capable of housing cars, broomsticks, carriages, and more. Customers can walk in (or come for an appointment, which is preferred) to the service desk located just in front of a completely unnecessary elevator and set of stairs that go into Dienne's living spaces above the garage. Dienne's precious car, a red muscle car, sits permanently parked in one of the four available parking spaces, on display yet preciously stored. All around the shop are Dienne's intellectual property: her inventions. They decorate shelves, line window sills, hang from the ceiling, or, more likely, sprawl across workbenches as production volume ramps up on high demand items. The garage was a whirlwind of mechanical supplies and magical, turning nonsense into something functional, worth selling, worth buying for a greater customer base. The aesthetic? Functional industrial. A place that demands hard
work, no delicate fragility allowed.
That's the magic half, and her main business.
But she walks the line, remember? Behind the main garage is a completely separate space that used to be a Muggle mechanic shop decades ago, that Dienne has since turned into a reasonably clean, reasonably Muggle friendly space for locals to stop by for mechanical repairs. They may never step through the barrier that leads to Diagon Alley; but Dienne strives to cultivate a business relationship among Muggles as well as Magical.
So what can be found at Oil & Rain? Remember that this is Dienne's dream business. Which means it will be growing every single year. The scale of her solutions grow as she grows her business. They start small: miniature airplanes that are more magical than Muggle; simply toys to educate students. Tiny dolls that can move on their own for more than a few hours. A cauldron lid that vanishes noxious fumes but maintains temperature as a potion rests. As years go on and Dienne gains a steady customer base, her solutions get more inventive: a limited edition (see: one) broomstick with an engine instead of bristles. A motorcycle spelled to go under water. A car with full amenities that a witch or wizard can live in. Flying carpets with heated environmental bubbles to make international travel more comfortable.
The ideas are unlimited in an inventor's shop, so let Oil & Rain become your regular stop for any custom solution you seek.
What purpose will this shop serve other than selling things and being the home of your character? Why would people want to RP there just for fun?Oil & Rain is wide open to Diagon Alley. She has enough faith in her anti-theft spells that visitors are free to come in and out to look at her wares as well as watch how she and her employees make their creations. Oil & Rain will be open for part time employees and apprenticeships. Ministry officials are welcome to visit and audit her shop--perhaps even challenge her creations for their legality or danger levels--and she will be a frequent visitor back in return. Customers are welcome to buy from her store, so they can make
their lives either, whether that's speeding up those finicky potions or picking up educational knick knacks.
Oil & Rain will have various ways to acquire truly unique, custom items. Oil & Rain will have a rolling Limited Time Only catalog of prototypes that run 1-2+ terms at a time. For example, site members can submit custom requests to Oil & Rain, and prototypes can be made and rotated in/out of cycle, disappearing or breaking down when the prototype life fades. However, this provides openings to try virtually anything out, both in active threads at Oil & Rain as well as using these items throughout Elsewhere, Castle, and Summer. Characters will be able to enjoy actual products from Oil & Rain that may amaze them.
