Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name:Salazar Kedvara

Birthday:27th Oct 1954

Hometown:Leeds, UK

Bloodline:Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination

Year (pick two): 1st, 2nd

Biography: Salazar grew up in Kedavra Manor located in Beeston, Leeds. The Kedavra's owned quite a bit of land around the Manor including a huge forest. He lived there with his Father, Drayton, his Mother, Maya and his Sister, Tia.

Drayton Kedavra was a shady man. He did Dark dealings all the time and and he was semi-famous amongst the Dark community. Not a supporter of Blood Purity or the like, he just loved the Dark Arts.

Maya Kedavra ran the local Dark Arts bookshop in Knockturn Alley. It was a very successful shop and the Kedavra's were not short on money. Some would even call them rich.

Tia Kedavra was the twin of Salazar, and would be attending Hogwarts with him.

He had a great childhood, playing with his sister and been doted on by his parents - they both were. When he was around 9 his father had taken him and his sister to one side and given them a book. 'A Beginners Guide to the Dark Arts' read the title. Their father explained that he wanted them to start reading this book and practicing the spells within.

By the time his Hogwarts letter had come, Salazar was proficient in the basics of the Dark Arts - he had even started reading "An Advanced Guide to the Dark Arts" but hadn't got much into it.

They had all travelled to Diagon Alley to pick up the required school supplies - it had been a fun day. Not much happened between then and 1st Sep and when it did finally roll around they apparated (side apparated in the twins case) to Kings Cross and wen through the barrier to Platform 9 3/4. Salazar was in awe of the scarlet engine and couldn't wait to get on it and make his journey to Hogwarts!

Night is his favourite time and he Spring his favourite season.

Appearance:

  • Short Black Hair
  • Deep green eyes
  • Medium sized, straight nose
  • Scar on his chest (due to an accident with Dark Magic)

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character. Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not Evangeline's or Hugh's.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Roleplay Response:

Salazar snuck back down to the dungeons after a night of exploring the castle. He had found quite a few new passageways, some that even provided a quicker way to get back down to the common room. He was taking one of those passages now and he could tell he was nearing his destination when the air around him felt slightly cooler.

Ahh...home, Salazar thought to himself with a smile. He had been here a week now and he was already starting to think of Hogwarts as his second home. As he neared the end of the staircase he was walking down (which ran from the 4th floor all the way down to the dungeons), he could hear soft footsteps in the distance. He reached the bottom, carefully listening...the footsteps hadn't quite grown as loud yet so he figured it would be safe to dart out.

He quickly opened the door and darted to the opposite side, covered by some shadows. The footsteps were louder now and Salazar's eyes widened. He was going to get caught if he stood around here. Something tugged at his mind though - the footsteps. They weren't adult footsteps so it couldn't of been a Professor that was down here. That intrigued him and it was the cause of why he was currently peeking around the pillar he was hid behind. He wanted to see who would be down here at this time of night.

After a few minutes he saw a small girl walking down towards him. She sported blonde hair and was walking carefully as if she was quite afraid. He watched her near him and he took an involuntary step back and of course stepped onto some loose rubble that was on the ground. It crunched under his weight and the girl with blonde hair suddenly stopped, her eyes going wide.

As she spoke she sounded quite afraid. She mentioned looking for Emma Birch and Salazar had heard that she was a ghost of Hogwarts - a Slytherin student too. She currently haunted the dungeons and Salazar had seen a glimpse of her once.

Why would a 1st year Gryffindor be down here in the first place, let alone looking for a ghost?, Salazar wondered. He shrugged to himself and stepped out of the shadows. He looked at the small girl and gave her a reassuring smile.

"Hello. I'm Salazar. Who are you? Are you lost?", he said to her in a calm and relaxed voice. He was intrigued by this small girl and he wanted to know exactly WHAT had brought her down here in the first place.

Hi Salazar, welcome to the site!

Your application looks good so far, however there are a few things we'll need to clarify and a couple of things we'll need you to edit before we can get you accepted.

In your biography, you state the following:
Quote
Drayton Kedavra was a shady man. He did Dark dealings all the time and and he was semi-famous amongst the Dark community. Not a supporter of Blood Purity or the like, he just loved the Dark Arts.
Whilst it's permitted for Salazar's family to have a dark background, please bear in mind our site rating, particularly in regards to horror and violence, and our special request guidelines, which require members to submit special requests for darker plot lines, which would include plot lines involving dark magic. You do not need a special request for the general reference to Salazar's family being involved in darker magic, but if you intend to go into any further detail about this, you will need to submit a special request before posting anything, so please bear this in mind when writing!

In your biography, you also state:
Quote
By the time his Hogwarts letter had come, Salazar was proficient in the basics of the Dark Arts -
All first years start with limited levels which restricts their magical ability to a basic level. You'll need to remove the reference to Salazar being proficient in dark magic from your biography, as this will conflict with Salazar's levels once term starts. Salazar is welcome to retain a theoretical interest in dark magic, but his magical abilities will be limited when he starts his schooling. Please also bear in mind that if you wish for Salazar to become proficient in dark magic in future, you will need to submit a special request for this, as it will likely be classed as a darker plot.

When describing Salazar's appearance, you state:
Quote
Scar on his chest (due to an accident with Dark Magic)

As per the special request guidelines (linked above), magical scarring is something which requires a special request. You will either need to submit a special request for this scarring (see here for the template) or remove this reference from your application. Please bear in mind that special requests can often take some time for us to review, so it may be better to remove this from your biography for now and submit a special request separately to ensure that your application is processed in time for the new term.

In your roleplay sample, you also imply that Salazar is a Slytherin. Although we do try to take house preferences into account, please note that this isn't guaranteed yet and Salazar may be placed in another house. You don't need to change this in your RP sample, but I did want to flag this for awareness.

Once you've made the required changes to Salazar's biography and appearance, please repost your entire revised application below and we'll be happy to take another look. Please feel free to PM or Discord DM (Yas#4887) me if you have any questions or concerns about the above. Thanks!

Hi Salazar,

Thank you for making those changes! Your application looks great now, there’s just one small thing I missed when reviewing your application the first time — sorry about that!

In your RP sample, you write:
Quote
She mentioned looking for Emma Birch and Salazar had heard that she was a ghost of Hogwarts - a Slytherin student too. She currently haunted the dungeons and Salazar had seen a glimpse of her once.

Emma Birch was actually a played student in our canon and although she was a Slytherin student who died at Hogwarts, she did not return as a ghost. Your first sentence is fine, as that is speculation/rumour, but the second sentence about her haunting the dungeons and Salazar seeing her will need to be removed.

Once you’ve made the required change, please repost your entire revised application below, and we’ll be able to process your application. Thank you!
