Biography:
Born into the enigmatic and secretive Cain family, John had a rough upbringing. His father, Thomas Cain III, was a hard man to please, expecting the very best from John in everything. Furthermore, a rough pregnancy and birth left John's mother unable to procreate ever again. For this reason, Thomas made sure that John would carry on the Cain legacy, no matter what.

The Cain's were a very secretive family, their lineage going back several centuries. At one time, the family was large, filled with all sorts of members. Today, the Cain family has dwindled horrifically, which many claim is due to a curse being placed on the family itself. Thomas, the proud patriarch, does not believe in such curses, and pushes young John to excel in everything he does.

When the time-shift happened, John was honestly too young to really notice anything different. His father and mother however blame muggles for the warp, but John is not so sure. Unlike his parents, John is not discriminatory towards blood, instead believing that a person, not blood, can make a difference. He would never say this in front of his parents however.

Thomas was incredibly ecstatic when his son's letter arrived, happy that Hogwarts had finally accepted him. Even with his father preparing him with both supplies and advice, John is not so sure about this Hogwarts place, worried that he may undoubtedly fail his father's expectations. Even with this fear, he strives forward, hoping to make his parents proud no matter what.

Personality: John is a black sheep in what remains of his small family. Unlike his proud father or vastly intelligent mother, John is more shy and reserved. Charisma is not his strong suit, nor is his intelligence. Instead, John would rather curl up by a fire and read a good book. In addition to his shyness, John is also very fearful of his father's wrath should he not do well at Hogwarts. Because of this, John pushes himself to study as much as possible, so his father will not be disappointed.

Appearance: Piercing green eyes fall under a medium length brown mop of hair. His lips usually curled neutrally, John barely ever smiles, being told only fool's smile by his father. Dressed in the usual robes of the school, John would never take them off, as not to agitate his father. Reserved even in visual nature, John talks lower then normal, sometimes even whispering when he must talk.

His father had given him so much advice before leaving for Hogwarts, but nothing could prepare him for this. Why didn't his parents warn him about the vast amount of people at Hogwarts? Learning magic was simple compared to dealing with the large crowds of people that filled the corridors daily. His anxiety with crowds had gotten so bad, John was starting to leave for classes early, hoping to skip them entirely.

What was worse for poor John was the fact that even in your common room, you could not get peace and quiet. It honestly seemed like no matter where you went, people would eventually meander in. This was definitely at odds with how John was raised, surrounded by the stuffy estate his family owned. Curling up under their grand fireplace allowed John sometime away from everything. He could not do that here.

Thankfully, Hogwarts was a huge place, and the fields that populated outside were quite gorgeous. When it all became too much for him inside the cramped corridors, John would do his best to get outside. He needed the fresh air, and nothing could be compared to smelling the wonderful flowers. Today was a day like that, with John moseying about a flowerbed, trying to relax in the beautiful sunshine.

But fate was not kind to John today. Standing not far off from the sneezing boy, John had been watching him scurry about the flowerbeds for nearly a minute or two. Once the boy's eyes locked onto John, he looked away immediately. Too slow apparently, as the boy taunted John with a question he would rather not answer. Trying to stutter out an answer, John was slow in reply.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to stare..." His voice was practically a whisper, obviously showing John's personality in full strength. Knowing the sneezing boy was much older then John, he quickly turned, ready to evacuate before any type of conversation could start. The boy who sneezed, not caring about John in the slightest, shrugged and continued looked for his rat, chasing after it as John made his way back to the castle. Hopefully, John would be able to get some peace and quiet in the courtyard.

Hello, John! I'm so glad you found our site, we love getting new players!

John sounds like he'll be a great addition to our site and I'm excited to see him around on the boards!

There's just one thing I'd like you to edit before we accept your application and get you playing! In your RP sample there's a bit of powerplaying at the end, which isn't allowed. Powerplaying is controlling the actions of another player's character without permission. At the end of your response you say that Hugh shrugged and went back to looking for his rat. As that is not mentioned in Hugh's post, it is considered powerplaying. If you could change that or remove it entirely, that'd be great. Another thing to consider is that you have John walk away at the end of your reply. If this were an interaction happening somewhere on the site you'd ideally want it to continue for a few more posts, at least. By having your character walk away it wouldn't give Hugh a lot to respond to. If you could edit your response to make it less final it would be perfect!

If not, he would probably make his way back to the castle, spending his remaining time in the courtyard.
