CHARACTER INFORMATION
Character name: Emily Anne Dawson

Previous and/or Current Character(s) if applicable: Aea Mullins, Marnie Ennes, Edith McCullough, Aislynn Periwinkle, etc.

Character age: 30

Character education: Emily attended muggle primary school from age five until age eleven.  Then she attended Hogwarts from age eleven until age seventeen, graduating with full marks.  She graduated with honors with a degree in charms and a minor in potions from Hydefeld University at age twenty-one.

Strength and weaknesses (details please): Her strengths lie in charms and potions.  She was always adept at both.  She’s a kind, forgiving person and she is a strong, independent woman.  Her weaknesses include conjuring/summoning and divination.  She is also a shopaholic.  She enjoys shopping to the point where she will buy too much.  Because of her shopping behaviors, she is also something of a hoarder.  She hoards anything and everything she can get her hands on, especially potions ingredients.  The woman has exotic, hard-to-find ingredients on hand at all times.  Emily is also very weary of people and slow to trust.

Physical description: She is about five feet and nine inches and has a proportional weight to height.  She’s not fat, she’s not skinny.  She’s just right.  She has a slender waist and curvy hips which she loves.  She has brown, wavy hair that goes past her shoulders.  Her eyes are a light shade of grey.  She has a very clear-cut jaw line with a very square look to her face at times.  She has fair skin and loves to dress in deep purple robes.

Personality (nice, rude, funny etc. Paragraph please.): Emily is really quite a nice person.  She’s always messy though.  As previously mentioned, she’s a hoarder but in 1941, nobody knows much about hoarding let alone how to treat it.  The hoarding comes from both a love of shopping and a trauma in her life.  The hoarding has caused the tendency to be unorganized and messy.  She has trust issues too.  This also stems from the same trauma that caused the hoarding.  She is slow to trust anyone, except maybe children.  She loves children and she wants to shape their little minds which is why she wants to be at Hogwarts again.  Emily is always busy too.  She has to stay busy because if she lets her mind go idle and wander around, she tends to find trouble somehow.  Despite her messy, unorganized manner, she is very timely.  She hates to be late for anything.

Hopes and dreams. Why are you teaching at Hogwarts?: Emily hopes to be a great teacher.  She loves teaching and has taught at various institutions since graduating nine years ago.  But Hogwarts has always felt like home which is why she wants to come and teach there.  She is gifted in charms and potions and feels she can offer something unique to the Hogwarts community.

Biography (500 words minimum. There is never such a thing as too much.):
“Papa?”  The timid little girl asked.  He beckoned her in with his usual stiff manner.  She proceeded forward, towards the armchair sitting next to a blazing fire.  She stood in front of him, between the fire and the armchair.  It didn’t take long.

He smacked her across the face, hard.  Enough for it to echo in the formidable room.  She fell to the ground in a heap, letting the tears flow freely.  He liked to see her cry.  It made him feel superior.  After all, he never cried when his father punished him.

But he was punishing her for showing her magic.  She was a halfblood.  Her mother didn’t tell him about her status as a witch until Emily was ten years old.  He’d always suspected.  He thought he could intimidate the magic out of his daughter.  His only child.  But when the Hogwarts representative came to the house the following year, he realized he couldn’t.  She had chosen to go and study magic.

And that was the moment he disowned her.

But not before torturing the girl with physical abuse and psychological torture.  He was a sadistic man.  He felt he was superior to everyone else because he was rich.  He forced her to watch her mother die.  Her only lifeline left in the world.  She was strapped into a chair and heard the screams and howls of pain as her mother took a beating.  Finally, he ended her life.

Emily went to Hogwarts a darkened girl.  And something of an orphan.  She stayed at the camp in summer and went to Hogwarts during the school year.  She received a stipend from the school to buy books and such.  She was sorted into Slytherin, her mind and soul darkened after what she had witnessed.

Her eleventh year was when the hoarding started.  She kept anything she could acquire.  First it just overflowed her trunk.  But then it started to creep under her bed and into other students’ space.  She was forced to part with some of her treasures.  It only grew from there.

By the time she made it through school and university, she was a full-fledged hoarder.  She kept everything.  Most of it was contained in a magical trunk which was really the size of a ballroom inside, but normal and small on the outside.  She filled the trunk in a few years.  Then she acquired a second trunk, this one bigger inside.  As of right now, at age thirty, she has filled the second trunk about three-fourths full.

But despite her trauma as a child, the night before coming to Hogwarts, she has developed into a nice, friendly person who would do most anything to make someone happy.  But she is slow to trust, having that trust in her father absolutely shattered as a child.  Her soul is not so dark anymore, having dealt with her mother’s death by hoarding.  It may not be the healthiest method for coping, but it works for her and she isn’t likely to change anytime soon.

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY
(Please respond to to this in third person past tense. Do not write the other characters' reactions. Only your own.)

It was the largest office in Hogwarts and, perhaps to students and newcomers, the most intimidating. The shelves were filled with various odds and ends, with a place of honor for the Sorting Hat, and the walls held all the portraits of past Headmasters and Headmistresses.

In the middle of the room sat a large desk. Everything was in order, for the current occupant had always despised a messy desk. It was the sign of a messy mind, and she had always favored neatness.

A clock sat on the desk, which currently showed the time to be 2:05. The meeting was supposed to begin at 2:00 precisely.

Along with order, Anneka valued punctuality. She was a very busy woman these days. Even during the summer, she had a number of matters to attend to. Interviewing and hiring staff was only of those matters. The newest potential member of her staff wasn't making a good impression.

She paced the room, black heels clicking against the stone floor. When the door finally opened, Anneka turned, her expression reminiscent of a Russian winter. "You are late."

Explain yourself was what her face said.

Roleplay Response:
“I’m so sorry.”  She sputtered out.  She’d lost track of time going through a photo album of her time in university.  She swore she’d heard the name before but she couldn’t place the face.  It wasn’t really a great explanation though.  So she found herself lying to make it a little better.  Just a little white lie, nothing major.

“I saw a professor slip and fall on my way in and I had to help her.”  She said, turning beet red.  She wasn’t a great liar.  She hoped the headmistress would accept her apology.  “I really am sorry.  I didn’t intend to be late.  I’m usually early.”  She said, blushing another shade darker.  Though she wasn’t lying this time.  She really was a timely person.  Even if she was messy.

She hung her head low, trying to look penitent.  She wasn’t off to a great start.  Emily looked around the office.  It was neat and tidy.  But it had so many trinkets that her mind couldn’t currently concentrate on the headmistress.  Her insane need to acquire things, so many things, made her look around the office in awe.  She needed it.  She needed all of it.

Still, she was here for an interview.  Emily shook herself mentally, shaking her head a little and refocusing on the headmistress.  She wasn’t here for trinkets.  She was here for her dream job.  That was enough to force her into cooperating and not focusing on the items she so desperately coveted.

Focus.  Focus on Headmistress Ivanova.  She told herself.  Her eyes fought her, flickering to the left or right at random moments.  Her damn eyes were going to make the headmistress think she was uninterested.  Which wasn’t true at all.  She was very interested in the job.  An opening for potions had just come up and she felt like it was destiny.
