Biography: (special request PM'd.)
Her parents were typical wizards - nice folks of halfblood heritage with steady jobs and respectable reputations.  Her father Octavian was a Ministry man, a member of the Muggle-Worthy Excuse Committee while her mother Cressida owned a Diagon Alley dress shop.  They did well enough for themselves, found a cozy flat in the wizarding quarter of London, and had one little girl named for the month of her birth and a grandmother.  It was a happy enough life. Even when the war came to Britain, and eventually wizarding London, they were content.

Augustine (called "Auggie," or sometimes "Dot" by her father) started life with a bawling screech, a cry her mother said must have been an announcement to the world to sit up and take notice - Augustine Dorothea Attwood had arrived. From the moment she was mobile, Auggie could always find something new to get into, from Mummy's sewing needles (they hurt!) to Daddy's work reports (they made a lovely ripping noise). She discovered books made good building blocks, and pots made wonderful drums, and when she was old enough she learned that if she stared at something long enough, it might even erupt in sparks.  Seeing evidence of their daughter's magical talent was a small relief to her parents; Octavian's brother was a Squib.

In the summer of 1943, however, just after Auggie's fifth birthday, life suddenly became a great deal more complicated. Following a freak accident on a camping holiday, Cressida and Octavian became far more overprotective of their little girl than they ever had been before. Augustine eventually recovered from her injuries but the difference in the atmosphere of their household was tangible. As the years passed, Auggie's adventurous spirit and curiosity often came into direct conflict with her parents' restrictions; her little rebellions continue to cause tensions.

These days, Auggie finds her own way of making adventure.  Now almost eleven, she runs errands for her mother's dress shop for pocket change, mostly delivering orders door to door and picking up sewing supplies.  A quick detour after a delivery doesn't take much extra time, so she'll often explore a new street in Diagon Alley on her way back to the shop. It doesn't get her into trouble - usually.

When she isn't running errands, Cressida home tutors her in reading, writing, and arithmancy skills as well as some basic magical theory in preparation for her first year of full wizarding education.  While her parents seem to be under the impression that Augustine will continue to be home educated, Auggie herself is hell bent on attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. If she can just convince them that everything will be fine, that she can handle herself...

Well, a little luck and a whole lot of hard work never hurt.  Time to get down to business.

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:
With a hurried step, Augustine took Mum was going to be very cross with her for being so late. They were in Hogsmeade for the weekend to visit Great Aunt Edie, which they did every second week for their dose of monthly boredom. Most of the time at Aunt Edie's was spent sipping weak tea and sitting for hours while the grownups chatted.  She wouldn't mind so much because the old witch's house was quite grand and filled with the most incredible old, magical things - but she wasn't allowed to touch any of them. So when her mother mercifully said, "Aunt Edie is out of biscuits, go get some and don't dawdle," she'd gratefully rushed out the door at a quarter past ten.

Now it was nearly noon and the sun was beating down on her neck with the same burning sensation she felt whenever her mother gave her a good talking to. Well, it wasn't her fault this time! Someone had asked her directions and she was always supposed to be kind to people, right? So she'd showed them the way to their destination (it was only a few streets away after all) and then the chestnut seller had come by and his wares just smelled so delicious--

Alright. So perhaps it was a little bit her fault and Mum wouldn't take kindly to the idea of her talking to strange wizards anyway. She couldn't even lie, make up a good story and explain it away - her mother would smell that nonsense a mile off. There was nothing for it. No matter how the augury cried, Auggie Attwood was going to be dead meat.

The chestnuts still tasted good though.  She popped one in her mouth before her ears pricked to a sharp yelp.

"John, I said wait up!" The cry came from the grassy knoll to Auggie's left, and she looked over to see the struggling form of a small girl pulling so hard on the handle of her toy broomstick that for a moment Auggie thought it might snap in two.

"Hey!" She called, swallowing her mouthful of roasted chestnut and cupping one hand around her mouth. "Careful with that, you migh--"

"You!"

Auggie's mouth snapped shut, startled at first by the accusatory finger pointed in her direction, eyebrows knitting in confusion. "Me what?" There didn't seem to be anyone else in the general direction of the child's gesture.  "I was just saying that--"

"...Do you want to play?"

Oh. A shadow across the sun caught her eye and she looked up, shielding her face against the brightness. A group of older boys, probably her age or so, were soaring above them, tossing a quaffle from broom to broom, laughing and jeering and being, well, stupid boys.  A sort of longing feeling settled deep in her stomach.  They looked like they were having fun.

"You'd rather be up there, right?" She asked the smaller girl then shrugged. "Me too."

Mum was really going to kill her now, but... it didn't seem right to just leave the girl by herself somehow.  Looks like the boys with the broomsticks already had, and Auggie supposed she could relate.  She got left behind a lot too.

"I'm Auggie," she said, and held out the bag of chestnuts. "Want one?"
