Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Theodora Jane Jalson

Birthday: 27th of December, 1951

Hometown: Hong Kong (This is fluid.)

Bloodline: Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one): Divination

Year (pick two): Fourth (if not, Fifth)

Biography: In three years at Hogwarts, Theodora Jane Jalson had flown completely under the radar and did so by design.

It was not just comforting, but safe. She'd sat by and watched her sister crave attention for her entire life and all it had ever done was bother her. Being the other Jalson sister hadn't been the status signal it'd been intended to be. While Sierra made it her mission to stand out, whether through her big mouth or hijinks in Quidditch, Theo was the far more reserved and responsible one. The one who would carry the legacy of their prestigious family forward while her sister set out to, well, do whatever she damn well pleased.

Truly, no two sisters had ever seemed to be more diametrically opposed and, even if she did love Sierra, she didn't necessarily enjoy the association.

Still, three years was a long time to not make any friends. By this point, even her parents seemed to worry that Theo lacked the charisma that had others gravitate to them. Theo didn't really care. How could she, when she'd spent her entire life working to be the best, the smartest, the most knowledgeable? Hadn't it been her parents that stuck her with every sort of tutor that existed? And she took to learning like fish in water, even if she only ever did it out of loyalty to those around her. She didn't necessarily enjoy it, but she acted like she did because it was expected of her.

So, if you needed someone to play a rudimentary Wedding ballad on a harp, she was your girl. If you needed to get around a new city, she had about nine different languages she could sputter through with varying amounts of success. Could she name you fifteen constellations when looking at the night sky and give you a small summary on their origins? Most of the time. She was a bastion of useless information, quick to state a fact, smug on her delivery.

She was starting to learn, however, that nobody liked a know-it-all.  Her social cues were lacking. Her sister told her as much and if she kept being such a stick-in-the-mud (Theo's own reprisal of what Sierra had actually called her) then she'd end up dying old and alone in a huge house with thirty cats with whimsical names to keep her company.

While that might actually sound like a dream, the point stood, and something needed to change.

Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw

Personality: Theo aspires to encapsulate all the virtuous qualities can have. At least, that's the goal. In reality, she could be rather judgmental. And preachy. And believes she's right about everything. She also suffers from fits of anxiety while also craving the dwindling days of a deadline. It's a terrible combination.

Irrevocably, the smart-mouthed witch could also be rather blunt and lacking in patience. She isn't the sort that could bring herself to think any slower than the speed her mind computes at for the people she's interacting with. It can almost feel painful to dumb it down, despite not being as smart as she believes herself to be.

She is quite driven. While her goals for what she ultimately wants to do in life if fluid and could be a hundred different things given the hour of day, currently she dreams of being a world-famous reporter. Someone's whose name is big and bold on the front page of the Daily Prophet.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character. Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not Evangeline's or Hugh's.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Roleplay Response: There was a lot wrong with the dungeons.

They weren't her favorite place in the castle, to put it mildly. Pool or no pool, there wasn't a lot going for it that any sensible person would enjoy simply walking around the near darkness unless they were trying to get somewhere. Or you had the misfortune of having your dorms stations there.

Slytherins must be rather bitter having to make their home in the deaths. It reminded her of the plight of Hades, the elder brother, having to make the best of literally living in Hell while his brothers got to enjoy the sea and sky. Theo thought about this whenever she engaged a Slytherin who was feeling extra prickly, who could likely use some more sunshine in their day instead of carrying their gloom around like an out-of-fashion top.

Theo had planned to head to the potion's laboratory that day. Another poor location for something having to be in the dungeons but that was an argument for another day. Potions was a subject she thoroughly enjoyed, mainly because she was rather good at it, and there was never a bad time to practice when the potion could be useful.

It wasn't unexpected to run into someone while heading through the dark corridors. Theo heard the meager voice echoing ahead of her, a timid sort of squeak that had her face sour.

"Is who?" She asked aloud, purposely stomping her feet to give away her presence.

"I have no idea who that is. If she's a Slytherin, the common room is much further down. But you wouldn't be allowed in there. Not sure what you're trying to accomplish tip-toeing your way around here." She could have probably been nicer about it. There was a sense that the younger girl was one strange sound away from crying.
