Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Eliana Shrew

Birthday: September 6th, 1954

Hometown: Bath, England

Bloodline:
Muggleborn / Halfblood / Pureblood / Unknown

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination / Transfiguration / Charms / Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two): Fourth Year, Fifth Year

Biography:
Eliana was born on a chill day in September, despite it not quite yet being autumn. Her mother, a young thing, and the one responsible for her magical blood, died in childbirth. Her father, being so madly in love with her mother, decided it was best not to keep secret the world of wizard hiding under everyone's noses. Eliana was raised with the knowledge of the magical world even without a magical parent. Though she saw no distaste in muggle necessities, Eliana strived reading her mother’s old schoolbooks, meant to be passed down to her when she was due to arrive at Hogwarts.

Upon arriving at school, Eliana immediately sunk into her studies. Finding she had a passion and knack for Potions, Herbology, and Transfiguration, Ellie stocked up on extra books for more than just studying. Over her first three years at Hogwarts, she excelled academically, and very much so in these three areas. Of course, not every subject was exactly her area of expertise. Divination was exceedingly difficult as she struggled with the abstractness of it all as well as its purpose, preferring to stay in the moment, not wanting to know what might happen next. Despite her continued hard studies even in this subject, her scores remain hardly passing.

It was one evening early into her third year when she’d just signed up for Care of Magical Creatures, that Eliana discovered a small bowtruckle at the edge of the forest. The thing looked lost and scared and considering that Eliana had barely any friends, and even those she considered more acquaintances, she rushed over to it in hopes that perhaps nature would provide her the company she lacked. Naming the bowtruckle Emmett, she helped it make a nest in a solitary tree where she promised to visit, after coming to an understanding that the thing had no family, every day if she could. Since then, Ellie has roused in herself a sympathy with animals she never knew laid resting in her.

Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Ravenclaw

Personality:
Eliana is mostly quiet, except when it comes to being in the classroom. A naturally curious girl, she lives for academic and parental validation. To have a less than perfect paper or to raise her voice too loudly leaves her disappointed in herself. She has an obsessive fondness with books and very much enjoys studying magical plants and alchemy. Never being one to stand out, Eliana much prefers her own company over that of others. Most often, she is to be found outdoors with a book in her lap.

Appearance:
On the shorter side, Eliana stands at an unimpressive five-foot-three. She is rather slender with bright blonde hair and deep brown eyes. On the days in which she can dress casually, she prefers to wear something flowing, as she feels restricted in pants. While she does need glasses for her under-average eyesight, she instead wears contacts most days, or just decides to go without them.

Option 2:

That rat of his was in for it now.

The gray little rascal had disappeared from his clutches at breakfast. Again.

Before Hugh even knew what was happening, Merlin had shot across the floor, somehow managing to avoid all the feet walking across the hall and had escaped through the open doors.

Which meant that Hugh was now stomping through rows of flowers and other various flora, searching for the small creature. It was like the rat knew Hugh was allergic to most flowers. Merlin always chose to run to the gardens whenever he got away from Hugh. It was as if the rat did not want to have him for an owner.

Hugh had named his pet Merlin because he had hoped the powerful name would give the rat more incentive to be more than a rat. Not that he expected Merlin to change into a wizard or anything, but rats were just so...useless, for the most part. With a name like Merlin, Hugh thought it might give the rat purpose.

The only purpose Merlin seemed to have was getting away from Hugh as often as possible.

As the fifth year trudged into the second row of flowers, not taking much care to avoid trampling the first row, he felt the first sneeze building up pressure in his nose and behind his eyes.

"You blasted rat! Where are you?"

He pulled apart a section of bright red flowers; he didn't know what they were called because he despised flowers, and ducked his head low to peer into the depths of the flowerbed. It was moving closer in proximity to the flowers that finally did it. Hugh took in three great breaths and then let out an almighty sneeze. It was strong enough to disturb some of the dirt on the ground before him.

Groaning, he stood up again and wiped his nose on his sleeve. It was as he was turning his head, his nose running up and down his arm, that movement in his peripheral vision caught his attention. Normally one who preferred to put his best face forward, Hugh was a bit embarrassed to be caught wiping his runny nose on his robes.

Nevertheless, Hugh put on his best haughty voice. albeit a bit thickly with his plugged nose and said, "Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Roleplay Response:
It was still the beginning of the term and the air had only a hint of chill. This was Eliana's favorite time of year. Once her class had let out, she all but sprinted over to the gardens, where the flowers would still be in bloom before winter toppled in. Finding a lovely little spot free of natural debris, Ellie smoothed out her robes and sat down, digging her Potions book out of her bag. She only had a small bit of homework left to finish before tomorrow's classes and hoped to crank it out here before it got dark and cold.

She'd made good progress, scribbling on an odd piece of parchment placed in her schoolbook, answering the, in her opinion, much-too-philosophical question posed by her professor of why anyone would use potions to stop death, what the implications of this power were, and what the consequences ought to be. Ellie loved potions, but the some of the work could be a bit much at times.

Suddenly, her concentration was broken with the moaning and groaning of student maybe a year or so older than her stomping through the gardens, getting on his hands and knees, and digging through the flowers. It was maybe ten minutes of Eliana just staring at the boy in fascination before he noticed her shifting. He questioned her.

"Oh, I'm sorry," Ellie said. She stood up and wiped her behind of any dirt.

The two of them stared at each other for quite some time and Eliana was completely unsure of the situation she'd stumbled into.

"Are you alright?" she said, breaking that awkward silence, "Are you looking for something?"

Ellie loved potions, but the professor's tendency to treat their students as though they were scientists and ethicists was a bit much at times.
