Ashera is an 11 year old girl who has recently gotten her Hogwarts letter. She was very surprised by this letter as she lives with a muggle family in London. Ashera has been living in the muggle foster care system since she was a tiny human. She has spent most of her time moving from home to home with little stability because of her behavioral challenges, many of which were exasperated due to accidental magic. As far as Ashera knows, she has no living family. At least, no one came to claim her when her father died unexpectedly while out on assignment. All Ashera knows is that her father was a photojournalist. The man was caught up in a storm overseas and was never seen again. When he didn’t come home, Ashera’s nanny phoned the authorities who took custody of Ashera. (141 words)

House Request: Anything but Hufflepuff (I have spent my life role playing my OC who is a Hufflepuff and I would like to try something different; this isn't a biased request at all.)

Personality:
Ashera is a mistrustful little girl. She doesn't believe that the world is here to give her what she wants or need. She has learned that often times she has to take what she needs just to survive. She also takes things that aren't hers because it's fun and there just isn't enough fun in this world for her. When Ashera has made friends with other children, she is often seen as controlling, bossy or demanding. Her friends don't stick around often because of this and this just add's to Ashera's beliefs that the world is against her.

Appearance:
Ashera is of average build. She is a bit skinny because sometimes the adults in her life forget to feed her. She hordes food but it never is really enough to satiate her. She feels self-conscious of her skinny knees and unkept copper hair. It's just one more thing that makes her stick out. It also makes her memorable which doesn't help when she doesn't want to be noticed.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Ashera had just gotten out of the kitchen where she had sweet talked her way into a pile of warm bread, butter, and some soft cheese. It was her favorite snack: simple yet satisfying. She had taken the last bit of bread from the elves and as she left, she heard them start to bang around in the kitchen. Ashera figured they were kneading dough for fresh loaves. She hoped so because she might come back first thing in the morning for more.

The girl wasn't paying attention as she left the kitchens. She took out the bread and broke off a piece, savoring the heat and tang of it. She chewed as she wandered, down and down and down. She started to notice that the air had changed. It was colder and she was shivering a bit. She took another bite of warm bread and looked up. She could still hear the rhythmic pounding off in the distance but now it came from somewhere just above her head. She must be in the dungeons.

Great. Ashera had never been in this part of the castle and she hoped she could find her way back. Suddenly, she heard someone whisper something unintelligible and then call out in a loud voice. Ashera jumped out of her skin. Her basket of bread, cheese and butter went flying. Her blood boiled and she stomped around the corner.

"What in Merlin's trousers did you do that for? You made me drop my bread!" Ashera clenched her fists and glared at the girl in front of her, ready to pummel her if she even looked at her fallen bread wrong.
