Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Caspian Chant

Birthday: May 26, 1927

Hometown: Tinworth, Cornwall

Bloodline: Pureblood

Magical Strength: Conjuring & Summoning

Magical Weakness: Transfiguration

Year: Fourth (preferred) or third

Biography:

A couple lengths of stained string, some frayed wire, a ball of wax, a handful of bone buttons. Caspian Chant set these items aside and continued digging in his pockets for his quill. He crinkled his noise as he withdrew a wriggling worm which he had claimed during his earlier walk around the castle grounds and let it fall to the dormitory floor.

Next out was a crumpled length of parchment. Not what he was looking for, but it would be useful. He set it down on the desk in front of him. Finally, he came up with the quill and a couple jelly beans, one of which he promptly popped into his mouth. He chewed it tentatively and then smiled. Peppermint! Caspian ran his fingers along the soft edges of his quill. Once he finished the jelly bean he sighed. No putting it off, he had to write a letter home. Last week had been so hectic with homework that hadn’t found time to write and he knew his father would be cross with him. Dipping his quill into the desk’s inkwell, he began to write.

No doubt Cassandra had written her weekly letter home. Caspian’s older twin, Cassandra, seemed better at everything; ever since beating him out of the womb. Their mother was also a twin and twins ran in that branch of the family. The family belief was that in every set of twins, there was one who would steal the magic of the other. Caspian desperately hoped it would be him, but Cassandra seemed to show him up in everything! She showed signs of magic earlier, she did better in school, and she beat his soundly the time they dueled at summer camp.

But Caspian tried not to let family matters color his disposition. For all that, he did usually get along with his sister. And he had plenty of fun with his classmates and friends. And when things got tough, well there was always his stuffed pockets to keep him amused.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.

As soon as the class had ended, Caspian stalked out of the classroom and begun furiously striding down the hall. After such a horrible humiliation, he wanted nothing more than to be alone in the dorms. Twice in the last hour one of the Gryffindor students had managed to get the whole conjuring and summoning class laughing at his expense. It wasn’t his fault that he could not manage to get it right. He couldn’t believe that anyone could be so mean.

As he continued to replay the embarrassing moments over in his head, a shout suddenly interrupted his thoughts. “Hey! Wait up! It’s for the paper!” Caspian pulled himself from his brooding with a start. What hall was this? He’d been so frustrated that he had completely lost track of where he was going. The hall was empty save for him and the taller girl running toward him. Caspian recognized her, but couldn’t recall her name.

As she got up to him she gasped out a sentence between her short breaths: “What do you think about serving frog legs at lunch? Some say it’s a delicacy, but others think it’s plain gross.”

Caspian stopped for a moment to give it some thought. “Hm? It’s always nice to have something new and exquisit to eat. Though I hope it won’t be frog legs forever. Hopefully they will have something else new, soon.” Caspian’s mouth watered just thinking about it. Maybe next they would serve escargot! After a moment of reveling in the thought of food, his mind returned to his predicament. Lowering his voice in embarrassment, he asked the girl, “do you know which direction it is down to the entrance hall? I'm a little turned around.”
