Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name:  Calvin Ronaldo Sharppe

Birthday: April 2, 1938

Hometown: London, England

Bloodline: Pureblood

Magical Strength (pick one): Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Transfiguration

Year (pick two): First or Second

Biography:

Calvin Ronaldo Sharppe was born April 2, 1938 to the wealthy pureblooded Sharppe family. Ingrained in the Ministry of Magic's Department of International Magical Cooperation, Robin Sharppe specializes in the trade and regulation of commodities related to cauldrons, and other magical cutlery. Knowing the right names and faces brought the Sharppe family to its wealthy status- earned but very boring. The timewarp did not affect their lives much, as they come from a long line of purebloods and most of pureblood society were able to adapt from their previous trade to their current one (people always need cauldrons).

Having come from a long line of those in the ministry and commodities business, the Sharppe family have done very well for themselves, despite having a small family. Although excelling at what they do, the Sharppes never carved out a prominent name for themselves in the pureblood society. They are members of all the societies and clubs, and most purebloods know their name, but because their numbers are so small (Cal has few relatives and extended family), they are mostly on the outskirts of respect. And for the most part, they are perfectly content with just that.

Being the single child, but having a parent with a high profile, his Italian-descendant mother is often at parties, planning committees, and networking parties on behalf of her husband. He grew up in the care of a nanny. Or rather, nannies, because one has yet to be around for more than a year or two before Calvin's energy drains them whole. Growing up, Calvin had all the newest versions of toys, and being an avid lover of Quidditch and most sports, he constantly flew away from his responsibilities of being a quiet and obedient child. A nanny's job is difficult when the child does not ever want to stick to the rules.

Mostly what keeps Calvin tethered to reality and the ground is the idea of being able to make his friends and family happy. Begrudgingly, he gets along well enough with his private tutor and teachers when it comes time for learning arithmetic and literature lessons if it meant that he was able to play with his dad at Godric Park after a long week away. When applied, Calvin can be decently clever. But at ten years old, he would much rather be chasing bugs, rolling in the mud, and making friends across the city. Many times, he does not realize just how privileged he is which can also get him into trouble. But he means well- He's diplomatic towards guests, polite (if sometimes careless) around strangers, and has yet to make a complete fool out of himself.

Recently, he finally found his favorite nanny, one that was able to stay employed for more than six months, Nanny Saunders, only to have to say goodbye to her as Calvin heads towards Camp Loki to start his educational career at Hogwarts. He comes in with his new puppy of one year Bandit*, a bumbling Scottish Sheep Dog that is just as energetic and eager as Cal is. He is looking forward to Hogwarts with bated breath, unable to hold his excitement as he is finally old enough to make a name for himself and his family.

Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Gryffindor or Hufflepuff

Personality:

Calvin can be described as a mix between a firecracker and an overzealous canine. He is the type of boy to always look at things with a glass three-quarter full, and always assumes the best in people, even when their history and their actions may be contrary to such a statement.

Such optimism comes with an energy that usually bubbles over like a pot of water that is past its boiling point. The kinetic energy Calvin holds often leads to him jumping into situations he might not necessarily be wanted in, get him into trouble, or making an unintended mess of things. But through all of it, he does have the best of intentions. Having been raised by many a nanny and the strict discipline of his mother when she was around, Calvin typically knows the difference between right and wrong. He withholds judgement of others though, and much prefers actions over words when it comes to defending what he thinks is right.

There are rare times when Calvin is sad, such as when he doesn't get what he wants, is lectured over a mistake he's made, or disappointing his father. That is when he is quiet, but not for long. Hiding his true feelings until he feels better is usually the option that Cal gravitates towards, always trying to find the upside to push him back to a good mood. This is the same as when he is angry, although Cal is much more likely to react through actions than do nothing. He is not a do-nothing type of person. He is more of a do-now-ask-questions-later type of guy.

Appearance:

Calvin is a shorter guy than most boys his age, despite having been born in the earlier half of the year. He currently has a messy ball of curly auburn hair which will surely darken with age. But as of right now, he is a lanky, 4'11" child with the determination of someone twice his height and weight.

Option 2:

Cal found himself outside again. This was usual for him as he always preferred the outdoors to being cooped up inside like a chicken. So he chose to be the opposite of in and go out. His robes were open to the brisk air and sunshine, trailing behind him like a mist as he ran past professors, groups of students, and little critters running around. He ran past the hallways, past the entrance to the stone castle's walls, past the courtyard, into the open fields that held more adventures that would await him. He sniffed the air, circled around and saw someone who seemed similarly in the same space and mind as he was.

This excited him, bringing him forth to peek and ponder the boy's actions. His neck craned, his wide brown eyes surveying what he was... searching for? He was awful busy trying to see... something. Calvin brushed aside the tall grasses, not liking the way his height seemed to be a disadvantage now. Perhaps it would be a good way for him to hide from his enemies, sneak up on someone, be the fly on the wall just as one thinks they're safe...

"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare."

Oh. He was seen and found. The boy addressed him with a look, and Cal realized that perhaps it was rather rude of him not to introduce himself before joining in on the fun. How silly! He was usually about making an entrance. He stepped aside a little to give the boy some more space and with a wide smile introduced himself. "The question really should be, can I help you with something?" A search for treasure? A lost item? "I'm Calvin! I can help?" Even if the boy didn't want his help, Cal was going to be skipping around the space for a little while longer. The red flowers looked interesting but he wasn't sure that was exactly what the boy was searching for...

Roleplay:
Reply as your character to the following:

Godric Park.

Overhead, the sky was a crisp blue, for once clear of the ever-pervasive spongy clouds and rain. The sun was a lemony-yellow presence, high in the Eastern sky, and in front of it zipped three broomsticks in a straight line, or something very like one. One... two..... three... the boys passed, their shouts of excitement echoing as they chased the snitch, a tiny shimmer reflecting the sunlight.

Far below was another, much smaller broomstick.

It trugged along the ground, hugging close to it like a sluggish choo choo train and occasionally shuttering in protest. This was because said stick was currently being occupied by a very small girl who was tugging upward on the front of it with all her might, trying to coax it into doing what it had been expressly designed NOT to do.

"John, I said wait up!" The tiny girl squealed, giving the broomstick another tug.

Begrudgingly, it drifted upward a foot, and then sank, depositing the troublesome girl safely on the ground. Janey Hurst was not pleased. In a huff, she hopped off the toy safety broom, grabbing it firmly and thrusting it handle first into the turf.

Her brother was such a beast. He NEVER let her play! She folded her arms, seething blue eyes fixing on another figure nearby.  "You!" She barked, much more sharply than she meant to.

"...Do you want to play?"

Roleplay Response:
The weather in Great Britain was, when stars aligned and the clouds decided to take a lunch break, would shine brighter than Calvin Sharppe could ever imagine. After being stuck inside his less-than-small penthouse, Cal could finally go out. When given the option of just where to go, Godric Park was one of his favorite spots. His nanny (this month) had an iron grip on his wrist as Calvin tried his best to extend his reach as far as his small physical body would allow, to get on the grass and join the other kids flying to and fro in the air. "Can you lemme go now, Nanny Beauchamp?" he implored, emphasizing and elongating the nanny's surname in true agony.

After a moment's pause, but what felt like a hundred days in the dessert without water, the nanny's grip let go and Calvin flew towards the group of other young children. Three bodies flew over him, all older. Was he too late? His brown eyes followed the wind that trailed after the group as he heard a high pitched voice coming from his right.

"You! ...Do you want to play?"

Cal's grin widened as he heard his request. There was nothing more he'd rather do! Nodding, Cal grabbed his own broom from the nanny who was sitting quiet and contently on the bench, newest edition of the toy brooms from his year's catalog (although he wouldn't have known the difference), and swung his leg over. "You can sit behind me," he instructed, his words fast and quick- Eager. "We'll catch up and then..." he turned over and cupped both his hands over his mouth to amplify his voice. "NANNY BEAUCHAMP! WE NEED THE QUAFFLE!" It wasn't a visit to the park without some good ol' Quidditch. It was a small broom, and a small miniature version of the Quaffle but in Calvin Sharppe's mind, it was a big world out there and he was going to conquer it. He waved over the girl with his hands, urging her to get on.
