Application for Hogwarts School

→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Molly Goodwin

Birthday: March 22

Hometown: Tynemouth, Tyne & Wear, England

Bloodline: Muggleborn

Magical Strength (pick one): Charms

Magical Weakness (pick one): Divination

Year (pick two): 1st (preferably), 2nd

Biography:

Frank Goodwin met Rose Haverford when her family took a holiday to visit distant relatives in Tynemouth, where his parents owned a bakery. The moment Rose entered the Goodwin bakery, Frank captured her heart with his charming personality and buttery croissants -- though they were only fifteen. Subsequent summers were spent begging her parents to visit the distant relatives in Tynemouth and always making a morning visit to the Goodwin bakery each day of her stay.

When Frank and Rose reached the age of eighteen, Rose insisted on remaining in Tynemouth longer than the summer, using her relatives as an excuse to stay despite never seeing them after her last summer visit. The next summer, Frank proposed, and they were married by Christmas. Their marriage came at an opportune time; Frank’s father had passed, and Frank inherited the bakery and became its sole proprietor now that he was beginning a family of his own.

Though Frank and Rose Goodwin were busy all year -- tourists flocked to the place during the summer, but the locals kept the place alive with holiday purchases in the winter months -- they still yearned to begin a family, and tried to have a child.

Molly’s arrival on a bleak March day was a blessing to the Goodwins, who had been trying for a child for five years and finally got their wish. Their attempts at giving Molly a sibling failed, and so she grew up as an only child in the seaside town of Tynemouth, the light of her parents’ life.

As a child, Molly was a curious girl, never content to remain in one place for long because there were always things to discover. Many days were spent in the bakery nonetheless, where her friendliness kept the atmosphere warm and where she learned to bake by her father’s side. Outside of the bakery, Molly spent much of her time in the outdoors, exploring every nook and cranny of Tynemouth -- but she also had a knack for learning, and she enjoyed reading about the world beyond Tynemouth’s borders.

When her Hogwarts letter arrived, Molly could hardly believed it was real. It seemed like a place from her fairytale books, and though she had always been a dreamer, it was difficult to wrap her mind around the fact that she would be able to cast spells just as a fairy godmother. Even still, Molly was terribly excited, and her parents were terribly sad to let her go.

House Request: no preference, whichever works!

Personality: Molly is always eager to learn, always eager to explore whatever place is around, whether it is familiar or new. She refuses to act ‘like a lady’ and cares little about getting hurt, so her legs are always dotted with bruises and dirt because a foothold was just too hard to reach or because she lost her balance a bit too soon. Her father’s family’s love of baking passed down onto her, and Molly enjoys coming up with new creations, presenting them to the bakery’s customers with a perpetual smile on her lips.

Appearance: Light blonde hair extends just beyond her shoulders on her back, and freckles spot across rosy cheeks. Her eyes are a soft blue which grow bright every time she smiles. Molly is of medium height and build, her body a perfect average that never bothers her one way or another. Her lack of concern for her appearance is shown in the way her hair is almost constantly a mess, pulled into a ponytail atop her head or frizzy.

Really, Molly ought to have been doing her homework. The thought nagged in the back of her mind like a constant little reminder from her mother, but just like her mother’s nagging, Molly took great joy in pushing those thoughts away. There was still plenty of time before Charms class, she convinced herself, and therefore putting it off to roam the castle wasn’t a terrible idea.

She also justified avoiding homework by reminding herself that so many corners of Hogwarts remained unexplored -- particularly the dungeons. They were so dark the the girl had difficulty convincing herself to give them a chance. She preferred everything bright, and the dungeons were hardly bright; they were dusty, dark, and damp, and she had little desire to be there longer than necessary.

It was only the thought of discovering something she hadn’t seen outside of Potions class that Molly convinced herself to give them a chance. So she packed up her bag, slung it over her back, and descended the moving staircases into the lowest part of the castle, still somewhat eager to look around.

Molly turned the corner into the main corridor, blue gaze sweeping across and attempting to locate a place to begin. She was preparing to turn down the corridor opposite that of the Potions classroom when a voice stopped her in her tracks, causing an eyebrow to raise slightly as she attempted to determine the source of the voice.

Her gaze finally landed on another girl, blonde like her and with her arms wrapped around her, presumably for warmth. (Molly couldn’t blame her. The dungeons were all too chilly.)

The words registered, but Molly didn’t recognize the name the girl gave. “Well, no, I’m Molly Goodwin!” She announced with a soft smile on her lips, stepping closer to the other girl. “Who’s Emma Birch? I was just looking around, but perhaps I could help you find her!” It meant a pause in her exploration, but Molly didn’t mind; the dungeons were better with company.
