Suggestions & Questions / How to start roleplaying?
« on: 14/05/2016 at 22:58 »
So, I really want to start roleplaying, but most roleplay threads in Elsewhere seem to be between two characters that know each other. There doesn't really seem to be many active open roleplay threads for anyone to join, and the ones I do find, my character doesn't really fit in anywhere. I want to start roleplaying and be a part of this amazing forum, but I really don't know where to start!

Biography: (300 words minimum.)
Lacey began to think. It was something she did a lot, despite what others might say. They say she's clueless and ditzy, but Lacey Estelle Avalon is much more than that. She is loyal and caring, despite her flighty and careless tendencies. Lacey closed her eyes, and began to remember, to her childhood. "Why are Mummy and Daddy always busy?" questioned young Lacey. Her parents had always worked at the Ministry of Magic during most of the day, leaving their only daughter with her grandmother. Lacey didn't mind, of course, even though her grandmother couldn't do magic like she could, she was always much more fun than her parents, when they paid attention to her. Lacey's parents were always working, working, working. But that was so boring! But her grandmother always played games with her, or took her out to the park. Lacey grandmother didn't even seemed to mind, when others called her a squib. Young, naive Lacey didn't understand what a squib was, but her grandmother seemed to. Maybe she would ask her one day. Her grandmother smiled at her. "Your parents love you very much, you know. But they need to provide for you, to make sure you have everything you need. But they also need to help keep the wizarding world in order. Without their help, everything would descend into chaos!" Lacey didn't like chaos. But she also didn't like how everything in her Mummy and Daddy's life had to be so perfect. Couldn't they just take everything how it was, instead of changing it? Even their only daughter had to be perfect. Lacey had two older brothers as well, but they were just like her parents! All they cared about was getting a job at the Ministry! That memory began to fade, as all memories eventually do. Lacey may not have had the best childhood, but there were so many more years of her life left, where she could just have fun, without a care in the world.

Roleplay:
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character:

Option One -
Amelia Nixon was many things, but she was never a pushover reporter that people could just usher away with a busy shuffle past. She was dedicated and eager to cut to the very middle of the current political tensions because she was Amelia Nixon and her articles would most certainly become front page material.

“Sir, please! It’s for the Prophet, how do you feel-“

Another one brushed passed her, the shuffling busy masses making their way through Diagon Alley for the lunchtime rush. This had been the best possible time to get people, but none of them were giving her anything to go with.

Only momentarily discouraged, the short red headed lady took a seat on a nearby bench. Her quill resting in her left hand and her notepad ready in the opposite hand. Amelia pouted, tapping the quill against her leg as she scanned the waves of people for somebody - anybody - who looked like they had something to say.

She had been dreaming of her name in bold print, Amelia Nixon: The Source of Today’s Tomorrow. She had been dreaming of the larger office and the secretaries that would fetch her the morning coffee and fetch her anything she needed. The VIP interviews and the most exclusive press passes. But all Amelia had was a page seventeen piece on the rising number of frogs in London.

Hardened by a day of no success, the reporter stood up and started to trod off down the alley. A loose stone on the cobble path caught her heel, sending the distraught girl toppling down to the ground.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!” she yelled as she tried desperately to recover her shoe frantically in the middle of the Diagon Alley moving crowds.

Roleplay Response:
Out of the corner of her eye, Lacey spotted an ice-cream parlor. She loved ice-cream! Lacey was only in Diagon Alley to get some books, and maybe a cat, as her parents never let her have one when she was younger. But now, she was an adult! Lacey could do whatever she wanted, without a care in the world.

“Merlin’s fog watch, my heel is broken! Help!” All intentions of getting ice-cream faded. Lacey Avalon may be free, but she is not cruel and unsympathetic. She quickly maneuvered her way around the crowds of people to the source of the yell until she came upon a young woman on the ground.

"Are you alright?" asked Lacey offering a hand to the girl. She laughed to herself. "Usually it's me who's doing the falling! Do you need help finding your shoe?"
