Name: Artemisia Myst

Birthday: June 10

Hometown: New Orleans, Louisiana

Bloodline:
Halfblood

Divination

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Conjuring and Summoning

Year (pick two): 1st or 2nd

Biography:
The only daughter of Marina Blackfoot and Pierre Myst grew up in the big easy. Her parents never really spoke of their families only to say that her father’s family had died when he was young and her mother’s family did not approve of her father. As she grew older more and more details emerged. Her mother was from a magical aristocratic family in England. While her father came from very humble muggle origins. The two fell in love and eloped in fear that Marina’s family would marry her off. Upon learning of the marriage Marina’s family disowned her.

The couple decided to have a fresh start in America and moved to New Orleans where they would later have Artemisia (Artie for short). Artie never really cared about the family that had abandoned them; why should she. Her mother opened a magic shop that catered to the witches, wizards, and occasional muggle of the French Quarter. Her father taught music at the local muggle school and played in the Quarter at night with friends; while he had no magical abilities like Artie and her mother, he was a genius with music. He passed that love of music on to his daughter.

When Artie was 10, just before her first year at Bayou Annunciation, the unthinkable happened. Her parents were closing the magic shop up when a muggle man walked in to rob them. Her mother tried to grab her wand but she was too late. The man killed Pierre.

Marina was devastated; Artie was so confused on why this would happen to someone as kind and caring as her father. Eventually, Marina made the decision that New Orleans was too painful with the memories of her lost love. Her estranged mother had been trying her hardest to make amends the past few years; ever since she found out about Artie. Marina took her mother up on the offer to move back to England with Artie.

Artemisia was livid to say in the least. She had not only lost he father but now she was also losing her friends and the only home she had ever known. England was cold and dreary compared to the big easy. And then her mother dropped the biggest news. She would be shipped off to the ‘best’ wizarding acadmey there was. Hogwarts. Artie tried to fight and scream and demand to stay but it was no use.

Hogwarts here she comes.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Artie wanted nothing more than to be left alone. Her transfiguration class went horribly and she had been given detention after she threw a curse at a useless Griffindork for transfiguring her tarot deck instead of his goblet. Grumbling she trudged to the dungeons ready to plop infront of the fire to write yet another letter to her mother begging to be sent back to America.

Why her mother decided they needed to be around the very people that turned their backs so long ago she would never understand. Nor would she understand how she could allow those same people to send her only daughter away for the majority of the year. Her internal rampage stopped as she noticed something ahead of her.

A young girl who was radiating fear crept in the dark halls that belonged to the snake house. The girl was obviously lost or extremely stupid. Artie had learned in the short time at the school that her housemates did not take kindly to prying eyes. She groaned to herself quietly, before the battle of wills took place inside her.

Papa would want you to be nice to her. But Papa isn’t here.

Back and forth. She had been struggling to do the right things since her father passed away. Why should she do the right things? Her father was always nice; always helped and did everything right and still it wasn’t enough.

As she got closer to the girl, Artie moved swiftly and as quietly as she could. Soon she stood right behind the young girl. Leaning down she whispered in the girl’s ear, “Don’t you lions know better than to disturb a snake while its resting?”
