Application for Hogwarts School
→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.
Name: Skade Larsen
Birthday: 21st of December
Hometown: Ähtäri, Finland
Bloodline:
Pureblood
Magical Strength (pick one):
Charms
Magical Weakness (pick one):
Divination
Year (pick two): 5th, 6th
Biography:
Skade was born to Ilse and Leif Larsen, employees of the Finnish Ministry of Magic. She spent the first nine years of her life in her hometown of Ähtäri with her younger brother, Gunne, until an unfortunate accident involving some uncontrollable magic and her Muggle neighbor's wooden house. Embarrassed of their daughter's outburst and unwilling to compromise their positions in the Ministry, Skade's parents sent her to Wales to live with their former colleague, Betty Llewellyn. Life with Betty was pleasant and cozy compared to her parents' frigid household. With the help of Betty's grandchildren, Amelia and Gwyneth, Skade quickly learnt english, and over time, developed a fondness for British literature. Accompanied by Amelia and Gwyneth, she spent her free time outdoors, playing quidditch, exploring the coastline, and adventuring into the nearby Muggle town. Truth be told, she preferred Wales to Finland, but returned to Ähtäri every summer, not out of love for her parents, but to visit her brother, who she remains close to. To their credit, her parents did attempt to mend their broken relationship with Skade when they heard of her acceptance to Hogwarts; or at least, they offered to pay the tuition. Her relationship with her parents remains distant, both literally and emotionally. She feels very little connection to Ilse and Leif, but doesn't resent them for the less than warm upbringing they gave her. She does worry for her brother Gunne, who she fears might be neglected by her workaholic parents.
Her Hogwarts debut was nothing spectacular; she didn't stand out, nor did she bond with anyone in particular. It wasn't until her second year that she began to form real friendships with her roommates and fellow students. Encouraged by her DADA teacher, Skade joined the dueling club and became an active member. Once Gwyneth and Amelia arrived in her third year, the three girls took up exploring again, only this time discovering the secrets of the Hogwarts castle.
→ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.
Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.
House Request: Gryffindor
Personality:
Despite her early eviction from the Larson family house, Skade was there long enough to adopt the same cold personality as her parents; she was taught to keep her emotions on a tight leash. That, combined with a natural reserved personality, makes her a rather difficult person to get to know. However, if angered, Skade can be quite the fury. She is quick to defend herself and her friends, and though she does not (generally) seek fights, she isn't afraid to throw the first punch. She knows that she appears intimidating, and uses that to her advantage. Through her study of literature, she came across the cynical wit of Oscar Wilde, and developed an unconscious habit of using sarcasm as weapon.
Skade's friends appreciate her for vaste knowledge of seemingly random subjects, varying from Muggle literature to traditional Chinese medicine (although they refuse to accept her offer for free acupuncture treatments.) Although Skade may never say it, her friends know that behind her impetuous exterior, she cares deeply for them all.
Skade is intelligent, though she doesn't always apply herself in her classes. She likes being active, so she is sure to do well with any hands-on coursework; however, memorization and textbooks don't hold her attention very well. Her favorite classes are the ones that require improvisation, creativity, and on-the-spot thinking; namely, charms. She looks forward to joining a dueling club where she can show off her magical combat skills.
Appearance:
Due to her Scandinavian ancestry, Skade shares the same pale skin and fair, almost white hair as the rest of her family. Much to her distaste, she closely resembles her mother; to differentiate herself from Ilse, Skade begun to cut her hair short and messy, the opposite of Ilse's long, groomed locks. She is an average height, but rather gawky, as if she had never quite left the lanky-ness of preadolescence. More than once has she been mistaken for a boy.
→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
Please reply to one of the Sample Roleplays below.
Skade had spent the morning in the library perfecting a potions essay that was due for last class. After several hours of research, she had written a masterpiece; hopefully, the quality of her work would earn her pardon for the tardiness. It had better, she thought, because she'd missed a pivotal Quidditch game that would affect the outcome of the House Cup.
Not only had she skipped the game, but she also had to forgo breakfast. It was with a growling stomach that she made her way to the Great Hall, incredibly grateful for the house-elves' mouthwatering cooking. Thankfully, the way to the Great Hall was relatively void of trick steps and hidden doorways, and Peeves was nowhere to be seen. She was close enough to hear the other students' laughter and the occasional cheer, even through the thick oak doors. Picking up her pace, she continued to make her way towards the delicious scents wafting from the dining hall.
"WHAT! Haven't you ever seen a loser before? Why don't you just take a picture?"
Startled by the sudden outburst, Skade turned from the doors and took in the sight of her harasser. Muddy quidditch uniform, blotchy face, tear stained cheeks; a member of the losing team, obviously. The freckled boy seemed vaguely familiar, but he definitely wasn't in her year or house. Either way, she immediately disliked him: she found his his aggressive, self-pitying behavior incredibly irritating and pathetic.
"I've seen a few," she told him as calmly as she could. His expression seemed almost shocked; he clearly wasn't expecting an answer. Skade knew she should let it drop, but as she opened the double doors, she couldn't help but taunt him one last time. Before he disappeared down the corridor, she called out loudly to his retreating figure.
"Hey, not to keep you, but what who won the quidditch match? It's just that I had to miss it, you know..."

Miss Larsen,
Thank you for your application to Hogwarts, and we are very excited to see what Skade will get up to during the term. There are just a few things that I would like for you to explain and elaborate on in the application before we can go ahead and accept you.
In 1937, there was an event on the board that OOCly is known as the Time warp. This set forward a set of events that would have affected Skade and her family quite dramatically considering she had been raised around muggles, and also has family in Finland and still visits them. You can find information about the Timewarp
here
. This will mention that muggles that Skade would have known before five years ago, would have disappeared and in 1938 Wizarding England joined WWII.
Also, at Hogwarts we do not have a DADA class that is rped but we do have a Magical Defense class in which she can say she had been apart of, but considering we have a Magical Defense professor you would need to have permission to reference them in helping Skade.
Another thing I want to note is your roleplay response, in which it's great that you're interacting with James, but saying that he was walking away, is powerplaying the character which is against our rping policy (unless given permission by the player).
If you can look at this information and consider how it may have affected Skade as she was growing up, along with editing your rp response to take out the powerplaying part then we can get you approved as soon as possible.
Please respond to this thread with your edited profile.
Thank you,
Kristoffer Carlisle

Hello Skade!
Thank you for the alterations that you've made, I have just a little addition. You removed the obvious powerplay reference of James walking off, but I feel like there is still the inkling of powerplay when you have Skade comment on James' show of shock.
Although a shocked expression would likely occur, it is safer if you avoid making any reference to James' state of appearance, so as to leave it fully up to the writer behind James. If you kept Skade’s impression vague and almost in the eyes of the beholder, then it will come off as presumptive rather than reality, thereby avoiding potential powerplay.
Instead of
She would have described his expression as almost shocked; he clearly wasn't expecting an answer.
It would be safer to say:
She would have described his expression as almost shocked; or at least that is what she wanted to see.
You obviously can re-write it any way you wish, as long as you aren’t dictating how James should behave in his response back – even if it is only an emotional response. You never know, James might decide to become satirical and rather than express hurt-shock at Skade’s response, just break out in laughter as the entire situation turns painfully humorous to him.
Once you alter the roleplay a little, just reply below with the changes and we will get you setup!
