Biography:
Beatrix was born in London, at St. Mungo's, where her mother works as a healer in the E&T department. She has spent her entire life being shuffled between her mum's flat in London and the "family estate" in Cornwall. You'd think the estate would be the preferable option, but she much prefers to spend time in London with her mum and her 25-year-old sister, Henrietta. Sure, Cornwall has a beach and house elves, but it also has stuffy old relatives and cousins that sneak into your room and read your diary. London is...well, London, and it has Henrietta, who wears red lipstick and goes out dancing with boys on the weekends.

Henrietta is Bea's only sibling, and she wants to be just like her. Henrietta is smart and beautiful and never gets in trouble for speaking out of turn. She also never dirties her clothes in the garden and and gets told off by Aunt Philippa and then sentenced to eat dinner at the kids' table with no dessert. Everyone is constantly reminding her how much neater and quieter and politer Henrietta was, as if Bea needed any more motivation to want to be like her. They don't understand how hard it is for her to be quiet and still and listen when the tutor is speaking. In fact, Bea felt like the harder she tried to be good, the more things she did wrong. She used to secretly fantasize that she was a changeling child, which would surely explain why she was so different. But then her grandmother had accidentally let slip that it was actually her mother's fault that she was a "wild" girl. Bea wasn't sure if that made her feel better, or just resent her mother for passing on her defective nature. Cousin Lucian used to tease her and tell her that she was evil and it had been her who had killed her twin brother at birth. She didn't really believe him, but the idea had stuck with her and she poked at it sometimes when she was feeling especially low.

She welcomed her Hogwarts letter as an escape from family, but was very nervous to leave. Hen had been in Ravenclaw and was an exemplary student, by all accounts. How was Bea supposed to make her mark when Henrietta had already been there and done everything flawlessly? She tried to ask Hen for advice, but instead had come away with a packing list and a neatly annotated pamphlet of all the classes she should take and which books were best for auxiliary study materials. Bea kept it, but it was stuffed at the very bottom of her trunk. She was going to do things her own way.

House Request: Sort me!

Personality:
Beatrix is mischievous. She is clever and curious and entirely too opinionated for her own good. She strongly desires to be perceived as a good child, but she doesn't want to put in the work for it. She is easily bored, and the things she does to amuse herself frequently land her in hot water.
She grew up with a very busy and disinterested mother part of the time and a large, overbearing family the rest of the time, and doesn't feel that she fits in well either place. She idolizes her older sister as the ideal modern woman, but in reality doesn't know her very well at all, due to the 14 year age difference. In reality, she strongly takes after her fiery-tempered mother, Lydia.
Bea doesn't know how to be moderate in anything. She is always either passionate or disinterested, and often can vacillate between the two. She loves to read muggle magazines and imagine what it would be like to be an actress or a model, and fancies herself to be more mature than her peers. In reality, she is definitely not more emotionally mature than the average 11-year-old, but has perhaps a little more worldly knowledge gleaned from her habit of eavesdropping on the adults at family parties. She is a loyal friend, but often abrasive and thoughtless without meaning to be. She takes magic for granted, and imagines Hogwarts more as a new social scene and an opportunity for adventure than a place for serious study.

Appearance:
Bea is scrawny, but average height. She has expressive grey-blue eyes, unremarkable wavy brown hair that she generally wears in a fashionable ponytail, and a round face with a small nose covered in freckles.

Option I:

Beatrix crept along the corridor, stopping at intervals to bang on the stone wall with her small fist, muttering a soft “ow!” after each time.

She had been down in the dungeons a few times already, for their Potions lesson, but the corridors had not seemed so dark and foreboding with packs of students hurrying back and forth. Coming down here to search for the rumored swimming pool had seemed like a much better idea then.

In fact, it had seemed like a downright GOOD idea then. When her older cousins told her there was a secret swimming pool in the dungeons, she knew that she HAD to find it. They hadn’t said where it might be, however, and even though she “got lost” on the way to Potions class and took a long ramble through the dungeons, it hadn’t shown itself.

She knew what she had to do next. In stories, people always found hidden rooms by tapping on the walls. She was pretty sure she’d be branded a weirdo if she just pranced about the castle banging on the walls, so obviously she had to wait until night to try the next step. And that was how she found herself sneaking around in the dark in the creepiest part of the castle.

She raised her fist for the next knock and then froze. What was that sound? A voice? A ghost?! Another sound came echoing out of the darkness.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?”

Bea nearly screamed, but managed to control herself and only a small squeak escaped. Surely it wasn’t an angry ghost. Ghosts said things like “aaaaahOOOOoooo” and “Boo!” not “Is Emma Birch here”. She suddenly remembered that she had a wand for a reason and pulled it out of her sleeve and pointed it down the corridor before muttering “Lumos!” and then calling out in a louder voice.

“Who’s Emma Birch?”
