Biography:

If there was one word to describe Sven Van Dyke and his sister Katarina, it was pretentious.

On September 1st, 1958,  Katarina and Sven became Van Dykes.  Katarina was the oldest, but only by a mere five minutes.  Parents Olaf and Sasha couldn’t be more proud.

The Van Dyke’s were the richest and most distinguished family in the Scandinavian county of Sweden.  Purebloods, the Van Dykes did not believe in mingling with muggles or half-blood wizards.  The best wizards were the pureblood kind, and the only sort that were acknowledged by the Van Dykes.  This meant that growing up Katarina and Sven didn’t have many play dates; their best friends were each other.

At the age of five, Olaf and Sasha hired the best pureblood wizard they knew to educate their two prized children, Professor Roscoe.  The thought had never even crossed their mind to send the two to a public or private school, as this meant that they would have to mingle with muggles, and that was out of the question.

Then, at the age of 10 (they twins would be 11 by the time school started), invitations to wizarding schools began rolling in.  At first, Olaf and Sasha considered send their two wonderful children to Beauxbatons where they had both graduated many years prior.  When it came down to it though, to each of the school’s invitations, Olaf and Sasha sent back a stern “no.”  Their children were too advanced to be attending classes with first-year children who knew had no magical knowledge what-so-ever.  What was worse, some of those students would be from non-pureblood families.

In late 1972, Olaf approached Professor Roscoe.  In his and his wife’s minds, Katarina and Sven were ready to begin studies in the dark arts.  Professor Roscoe aptly declined telling the family that he did not instruct under-age wizards in the dark arts.  The Van Dykes approached him many other times over the course of the next several months; each time Professor Roscoe declined.

All of this led up to the happenings in late spring, 1973.  Professor Roscoe was on his way home after the latest confrontation between Olaf Van Dyke and himself.  The next mornings the papers had reported that Professor Roscoe had died from a broomstick accident on his way home from the Van Dyke’s.  While Olaf had never admitted it, several people have assumed that he arranged for the wizard to be killed that night unless he agreed to teach his kids the dark arts.

That summer, Sasha arranged for their two children to be enrolled at Hogwarts.  The applications had all but been sent.  Now they played the waiting game.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Please include these sections if they are not addressed in your biography.

Personality:
Like his sister, Sven is a spoiled, rotten brat.  He is used to getting what he wants, when he wants it.  While a fair potion of money has been put aside for Katarina, Sven (as the only male child) is the heir to the family inheritance.  His sister, Katarina, is his best friend and the two are inseparable; you will rarely see one without the other; they compliment each other very well.

Appearance:
Sven is slightly taller than normal for his age.  He is also on the skinny side.  He has blonde hair, like his sister and his eyes are hazel. He wears bright colors, like his sister, to stand out in the crowd, and usually pairs it with black clothing to make the bright colors stand out even more than it would against his fair-colored complexion.

SAMPLE ROLEPLAY
You come across one of these three posts on the site. Please reply to one only as your character would.  *** Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not James' or Astrid's.

Option II:

“Oh, come now!"

Astrid Bixby’s voice carried down the corridor, the tall blonde girl not far behind. Her interviewee – or victim, depending on perspective – turned a corner and she frowned. They were always soelusive when she needed them. Sure, they would talk as if there was no tomorrow during class, but once she actually needed them to say something, they were nowhere to be found. Gryffindors.

Flustered, Astrid stopped in the middle of the corridor and stared, her parchment hanging limply from her hand. She was a good reporter, really, and she always did her best to make sure that everything she wrote was accurate. She glanced down to the quill, eyeing it with disdain. It wasn’t her fault if her quill misquoted. How was she supposed to know? It made for interesting articles, at least, and if she had misquoted the Head Boy last term as saying he had a love for stuffed animals, then that gave him personality. Astrid sighed.

A pout formed on her lips as she turned away, discouraged. The corridor was mercifully empty, though the doors to The Spellbound – the school newspaper – were ominously closed. Corbridge was a mercifully sweet editor, but Astrid was terrified of disappointing her all the same. She hadto come back with quotes.
Her eyes, blue, trailed her surroundings before choosing a new path, and she turned down a new corridor. A figure was ahead, and her eyes lit up, an impossibly rosy smile blossoming across her lips.

“Hey!” Astrid called, her voice light and singsong. She trotted to catch the person, her shoes clicking on the stone floor. “Wait up! It’s for the paper!” Her legs aided her admittedly poor running, and Astrid gasped as she came closer. “What do you think about serving frog legs at lunch? Some say it’s a delicacy, but others think it’s plain gross.”

Sven and Katarina were on their way to Defense Against the Dark Arts after lunch.  It wasn’t necessarily a class that they wanted to take, but it was the closest class that Hogwarts offered to the Dark Arts.  While the purpose of the class was to teach the “defense” part, they at least got to practice the Dark Arts when learning those defenses.  The only problem for Sven and Katarina was the fact that they were already skilled in the simple Dark Arts spells they used in class.

“Hey! Wait up!  It’s for the paper!”

“Shall we stop, Katarina?  Or ignore the pest?”

The two chose to stop, but more than likely it would be a half-blood or worse, a mudblood.  The two turn around, almost synchronized, on their heels.

It was even worse than Sven had thought.  It was Spellbound reported Astrid Bixby.

“What do you think about serving frog legs at lunch? Some say it’s a delicacy, but others think it’s plain gross.”

Sven and Katarina laughed harmoniously.

“Frog legs?” Sven responded.  “They are hardly a delicacy!  Maybe to the likes of you peasants they are a delicacy, but to people of a high social status, LIKE ME, they are just plain gross.”

Optional: If you are new to our site, please let us know how you found us: My sister RP’s here as Aubrey Rousseau :)  Love you, Amanda!

[Note: I will not normally powerplay my own characters as I did in this application.  I think that it’s important to show the inseparability of the twins!]
