UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT
Magic Coast Music
Bringing the Sound of Soul
「To A Radio Near You」
Running a business was a lot harder than Mimi had believed it to be.
Trying to do it all hadn't helped it and, for the most part, it was a business that mainly lost money. Records generally do not sell except the newest ones, at least not in quantities that people need. And, when they are out, it seems to bother customers even more. Still, considering that her main (
illegal
) business in the third and fourth floors of the shop was doing so well, she used that money to make sure the shop was running.
Except, you weren't allowed to do that. After an audit, Mimi owed back a lot of money and couldn't well say where she had gotten the money to keep her shop afloat. This left her two options: close down and declare bankruptcy or find some investor or investment group to sell it to. It almost felt
too
perfect when she was able to find one. Magic Coast Music was interested in the infrastructure of the shop, as they were looking to open their record store in that area. It made more sense simply to buy her out, at least the majority of the assets and business, and keep her on to help the transition. In their own words, they were happy with how the shop was running and weren't looking to make any big changes.
Oh, how wrong she was for believing them.
While saying they represented artists and music fans, Magic Coast was run by business people and their like. The sorts of suits that the music Mimi followed and participated in were opposed to. Their main goal was to capitalize on the growth in the industry and act as a middleman between the music machine and the money of those manipulated. This also meant using the radio station as a means to have the same 40 or so songs playing at the same time rather than the diverse and usually less popular artists that Mimi herself worked hard to promote.
Be it luck, Mimi was able to keep a strong share of how certain things ran. While she had to get rid of her milkshake bar, the appearance of a self-respecting music venue, and close her
Groove Room
from the shoppers, she still had a controlling interest in the radio station. It was Magic Coast's job to fund and deal with the business side of keeping it afloat while she was given the airways after 8pm to use as she saw fits. This also meant that any money garnered from that time slot was hers to keep.
The fight within pop n' palmers then truly reflected the wide world of music outside. The Beatles were gone. There was no singular act that seemed to hold the entire music scene together. In that vacuum, different sounds and styles were starting to garner attention. As far as the top charts in the USA were concerned, the growing Motown sound was where the money and popularity were. In the UK, alternatively, rock music was being pulled in three different directions: the hard rockers, the psychedelic jammers, and the folk/pop groups that were the antithesis of the other two and were promoted far more.
The war rages day in and day out, as the money and air waves clash within their sectors, trying to influence the populace at large with their agendas.

Radio Station
The Rock N' Ravers Radio station is radio station located on the second floor of Pop N' Palmers. Previously an unlicensed broadcast, it is now under the charge of Magic Coast Marketing. With the new investment comes newer, better-quality sound and extended radio play. Rock N' Ravers starts its broadcast at six in the morning with the first three-hour block called from "From Nineteen Six to Nine" where we play all the hits of the 60's. At noon begins our Top 40 in the USA, giving you a look into the top musical acts from across the pond. At four in the afternoon begins our "Ten Four" Stream, where we play the ten most requested songs of the day commercial free, brought to you by a different monthly sponsor. The next three-hour blocks are broken up between the Best in Pop, Best in Soul, and Best in Rock. Broadcast changes presenter at 8 pm (GST). Any issues taken with after-hours presentation is to be taken with the minority owners (Mimi Palmer) and do not reflect the views of Magic Coast Marketing.
Record Store
While the radio station predominantly makes up the second floor of the shop, the first floor is now mostly dedicated to the record store. From wall to wall, Magic Coast Records has made sure to provide even the most niche genres, split between both the wizarding and muggle worlds. Muggle music, of course, does dominate most of what's available. Whether you are looking for crooners, swingers, jazz hipsters, folksy folk, blues brothers, or the hardiest of hard rockers, Magic Coast Records has it at an affordable price! (Magic Coast Records no longer sells any non-music related items.) Our cashiers are experts in the field and provide top-level service. Open Wednesday - Sunday, from 10am to 6pm.
Music Venue
The music venue area was diminished during renovations in favor of a less condensed and more aesthetically-pleasing area for the record store. While the stage remains, the small area is standing room only, with hardwood floors around the same size as the elevated stage. It can fit around thirty people and is rarely rented out. Part of the negotiations forced the small venue to remain, even if consolidated, by requests of the previous owners.
Groove Room
The Groove Room, through much back and forth during negotiations, has also remained. However, it now has a separate entrance from the back of the shop and does not connect to the record store. It is kept in the hands of the minority owners and remains the same as far as its uses. It is a darkened room lit by lamps in blue, red, green, and purple. Neon posters hang on the wall and move around to the music constantly playing. A circle rotation of comfy seats congregates around a circular, wooden table. For the benefit of the record store, the area remains soundproof and smellproof, locking those things in. Only generally in use when Mimi invites people over.
