Positions
Trainees
IC & OOC: Trainees are still training to become fully-qualified professionals in their area. Applicants aged
24 or younger and applicants with
no relevant prior experience will begin their employment at the Ministry of Magic as trainees and can apply to any department of their choice. All trainees must complete at least 3 terms as a trainee before they are eligible for promotion to fully-qualified staff.
IC only: Trainees will specify a role and department of choice when applying to the Ministry of Magic and will remain in that role and department for the duration of their three-year training period.
OOC only: You (the player) must choose which role and department you want your character to be placed in when signing up for the Ministry of Magic. You will always be assigned your department of choice. Please see the
directory for further information on available roles and departments.
Fully-Qualified Staff
IC & OOC: Applicants aged
25 or older with relevant prior experience will begin their employment at the Ministry of Magic as fully-qualified professionals specialising in a specific role and department. If you wish for your character to move to a new department, you will need to request a department change in your check-in for the next term; they will not be moved automatically. Please note that if your character does not list any relevant prior experience when requesting a department change, they will be demoted to trainee again in their new role.
OOC only: Please see the
directory for further information on available roles and departments.
Department Heads
IC & OOC: Department Heads are responsible for overseeing their entire department.
OOC only: if you are interested in playing a Department Head, please see the 'Promotions' section below. The term 'Department Head' also includes heads of smaller offices within bigger departments (e.g. the Head of the Auror Office counts as a Department Head, even though the Auror Office is a sub-department of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement). Please see the
directory for further information on departments and recognised offices.
Wizengamot Members
IC & OOC: Wizengamot members participate in parliament as a lawmaking body and court as a convicting body. The Wizengamot is made up of representatives from the Pureblood wizarding families in Great Britain. Typically the head of the family fills this position; however, exceptions can be made if the Head is unable to fill the position (e.g. due to old age or illness) or has chosen to turn it down. The Minister for Magic has ultimate say over the final selection or deselection of a Wizengamot member.
OOC only: Only one representative per Pureblood family may sign up to represent their family in the Wizengamot. This decision will be up to the owner of that family, so if you have adopted a character from a Pureblood family, please check with them first. As above, the representative should be the head of the family unless circumstances dictate otherwise. Please note that the definition of a Pureblood in our canon is as follows: 'Ancestors from both sides of the family have been witches and wizards for the past six (6) generations.'
You may sign up to be a Wizengamot member with an NPC head of family. Please sign up using an account which is linked to the relevant family. You may
not claim levels for NPC Wizengamot members.
Other Staff
IC & OOC: Although office workers make up a huge percentage of the Ministry of Magic's workforce, there are many other jobs available for those who don't want to go that route:
Welcome Witches and Wizards work in reception,
kitchen staff run the cafeteria,
cleaning staff ensure all those cobwebs in the archives get swept away,
administrative employees handle all things like payslips... If you're not an office worker but you're still looking for a job at the Ministry of Magic, feel free to apply to any one of those! If you're interested in your character working at Ministry of Magic but would like a different role to those bolded above, please contact Tomas Bellestorm.
Passing Criteria
All Staff
To pass the Ministry of Magic each term, employees must complete three threads within the Ministry of Magic forums, each of which must follow the 3x3x3 rule (3 posts of at least 3 paragraphs of at least 3 sentences). These threads can be: work-related threads, e.g. threads with colleagues, threads with customers; staff-run opportunities, e.g. team meetings (please note that these opportunities are not always available and therefore should not be relied upon for passing); personal plot threads, where your character is not active in their Ministry of Magic role but the thread still occurs within the Ministry of Magic forums.
If your character is involved in a thread outside the Ministry of Magic where they are still working in their Ministry role (e.g. field research, patrolling), that thread may count towards passing the Ministry of Magic. Please always check with Tomas Bellestorm prior to counting one of these threads; this will minimise the chance of disappointment if the thread is deemed not to count towards passing when levels are due.
Department Heads Only
Department Heads must pass the Ministry of Magic every term.
Failure to pass the Ministry of Magic will result in demotion from Department Head.In addition to passing the Ministry of Magic, Department Heads are eligible to earn an extra
0.5 level if they plan and run at least one open departmental activity/plot per term and complete at least two threads relating to a departmental activity/plot per term. This means that you could do two threads relating to a single departmental activity/plot or two threads relating to two different departmental activities/plots. The plot(s)/threads must be open to at least your department but may also be open to a wider range of characters (e.g. other internal departments, external partners, the general public). Threads are only considered complete when they are marked as finished, not when you hit the standard 3x3x3 requirement. Please PM activity/plot outlines to Tomas Bellestorm for approval first.
Promotions
Trainee → Fully-Qualified Staff
To be promoted to fully-qualified staff, trainees are required to remain as trainees for
at least three terms and
must pass the Ministry of Magic at least once to be eligible for promotion. Therefore, some trainees may remain as trainees for longer than the minimum three terms if they do not pass the Ministry of Magic within that period of time.
Fully-Qualified Staff → Department Head
Players may apply for a Department Head position if they have passed the Ministry of Magic for
at least three consecutive terms. They may apply for Department Head with an existing character or with a new character (with relevant experience). Applicants for Department Head must have
at least 10 years of relevant experience. Applying for a Department Head position does not guarantee the role; approval for Department Heads is at the discretion of the Ministry admins. To apply for a Department Head position, a special request form must be completed and submitted to the Ministry admins.
Please contact Tomas Bellestorm for more information prior to applying.
