HISTORY
Originally established in 1940 by Leo Black, The Snake Pit closed for remodelling and renovation in early 1956. That same summer, the bar reopened, and brought with it an influx of new customers, eager for a taste of the American dive bar brought to British soil. It has remained popular ever since.

Following the death of Leo Black in September 1959, Jeremiah Smallweed has inherited the neon-lit establishment. Though the building itself has undergone further remodelling, the essence of The Snake Pit has remained very much the same. And to those who frequent the criminal underworld, The Snake Pit, Leo Black, and Jeremiah Smallweed are all too familiar.

juliet, the dice was loaded from the start
and I bet, and you exploded into my heart
I can’t do everythin’ but I’d do anythin’ for you
I can’t do anythin’ ’cept be in love with you

DESCRIPTION
Running on attractive girls, cheap liquor, and dirty money, The Snake Pit offers loud music, scantily-clad dancers, greasy food, and an impressive drinks list. In the main bar, pool tables and pinball machines can be found in a far corner, booths line the edges of the room, and tables fill the rest of the space. A door to the kitchen can be found behind the bar. Stepping out into the corridor leads you to the toilets, the staff break room, and the back door, which opens out onto the street. The end of the corridor leads abruptly to a locked door. To the left, a staircase, chained off with a sign that reads ‘PRIVATE’, leads up to the owners’ flat.

During opening hours, the main entrance is manned by security guards. What they say goes, so stay on their good side if you want to get in and you don't want to get thrown out. Over-17s only—no exceptions (IC and OOC). Kids, if the bouncers don't catch you, the age detection charms will.

I just wanna go out tonight and make my baby proud
“—boy, who’s your baby?”
“girl, if you don’t know by now—”
there’s two seats on the midnight train, the gold won’t weigh us down

DIRTY DEALINGS
The locked door at the end of the corridor behind the main bar remains locked to all those who do not have permission to enter. Those who do will find that the door opens directly onto a staircase leading down into a basement. The basement is split into three rooms. The first of these is the stockroom, the walls of which are lined with cupboards, cabinets, and safes. The Snake Pit’s inventory of potions and other rare items—some of which are legal, most of which aren’t—is kept here. The second room houses a table and chairs at one end, and a sofa, two armchairs, and a coffee table at the other; this is unmistakably a meeting room. The third room is locked even to those who are permitted to enter the basement; this is Jeremiah’s office, and holds most of the paperwork that running two businesses—one legal, the other less so—requires.
