He had to smirk as the woman tried to remove dumb from the equation.  Having spent the last couple of years, being underage, working on and off in bars and clubs during his breaks and specializing in being a janitor he’d never remove dumb from the equation.  Even when the equation involved himself he accounted for dumb, even if he was smarter than most as he didn’t drink beyond tasting things for research purposes.

He said “ The world appreciates that you tried. “

Stronger than water was where he excelled.  He said “ Do you have a specific drink you’d like to order, or I can make you a custom cocktail if you’d like. “  Naturally he hoped for the custom cocktail as he did enjoy the creativity of mixing drinks.

Being younger was a constant in his life.  Though admittedly lying about his age saying he was two years older for the majority of his life and using a fake identity when he lived in the muggle world was a contributing factor.  He said “ It’s a business like any other, and it takes far more practice and training than most realize.  Let’s just say when one becomes a potioneer one has far less ingredients to consider and far more time to consider them without having to please the palette of discerning customers. “

With a smirk he said “ Regrettably, most getting into the business miss a lot of that and are just trying to switch sides of the bar which in my experience doesn't work at any age. “  It also meant the majority of his summer was spent on the slower nights at the bar and he had to hold himself to a slightly higher standard than others who worked alongside him.

Naturally he dodged the question of if he was still in school.  He was.  However, he was smart enough to not say that.

He’d seen the slap out of the corner of his vision but as the situation didn’t escalate he’d forgotten about it until he heard the woman’s snappy tone.  He didn’t need to see an aura to tell this woman meant some sort of business so with a twirled flair between his fingers he very visibly put his wand back tucked inside his sleeve.  He was unsurprised this woman was not one for chicken tenders.

With a smirk he said “ Unless you’re here to tell me bar hopping gets more refined. “ Then with an exaggerated pause and a tilt of his head he continued “ I’d wager young and dumb is the perfect age for it. “  Hoping that a smile and a bit of humor might improve the woman’s mood.

Then he wiped the bar with a calm motion before putting his rag back on the lower part of the bar as he said “ Not that I’ll be bar hopping as still got some time on my shift back here. “  A sentence accented with him making a welcoming wave of his hand over the top of his bar.  Then he added “ Would you be interested in ordering something from the bar?  I could even discretely put some water on ice if desired. “

Walking into a store without even a rough idea wasn’t something he did.  Though apparently it was something that at least today seemed more common than he’d of ever expected.  Which was good, as Jasper’s products almost packaged ideas for basic pranks and even if someone was so thick they couldn’t think anything the opening was going to end with a prank-off that would provide ideas for days.

He said “ I always find it more fun to imagine the products in use myself. “ A truth as his mind always went to practicality.

As for the contest he wasn’t eligible to win.  Or even if he was he shouldn’t have been having played a hand in creating many of the products - thus knowing more than a couple off label uses for them.

With a smile he said “ At the end of the opening there will be a great prank-off.  I’ve heard quite a few ideas whispered in the corners of the shop but so far they are all missing a creative pizzaz of theatrics. “ Seriously, he was hoping for more than smoke bombs and glitter.

Smirking he replied “ It’s my mate’s shop.  I’m just hanging about today to ensure some of the pranks I see at Hogwarts next year are next level funny. “

He considered the cauldron that was a bit snappier than normal and starting to go darker from green with a more of a reddish hue accenting it.  It certainly wasn’t going to go the purple he hopefully thought in his earlier look it might.  Thankfully when it came to potions the color didn’t always manner, but it was a sign of a transition in them.

He said “ Definitely off. “ It certainly wasn’t going to make a tattletale toad.  Then he said “ Lets lower the temperature to see if that makes the Doxy eggs a bit less reactive and brings out the more enduring qualities of the other ingredients. “  Then he lowered the temperature as he continued “ Perhaps a single cauldron brew isn’t the right mix for this potion.  No harm in trying to boil it all down slowly till we get a paste then diluting the paste. “

It was a stretch of an idea.

With a shrug he said “ Surprisingly most the spell damage I see is accidents not curses being tossed.  Though I wonder how many of the falls are due to someone not ducking a Petrificus Totalus. “ A wonder that he never asked about and left that sort of asking to others who had a better feel for phrasing questions as he was too blunt.

Jasper’s question about the Snake Pit made him chuckle.  He barely could call it nightlife much preferring the clubs his muggle friends went out to that were filled of dancing.  He said “ Easy menu, decent tips.  Mostly, I’ve been having fun adding little illusions to accent some of the cocktails.  Even tough guys like cute if you make it mischievous. “

With a smirk he said “ I believe those accidents are called pranks. “  Which Jasper was right the combination of his influences was likely going to cause a whole new batch of accidents in the development phases.

In his mind the worst case scenario of mixing them eating with Jasper’s experimenting was a trip to St. Mungos if something bubbled on their food.  Thankfully, he suspected something like the unmentioned bubble fart incident was far more likely.  With that serving as motivation to plan his visits on nights he didn’t manage to get a shift working at the Snake Pit.

He said “ Crushed Jobberknoll feathers also mix well in potions when used in surprisingly small amounts. “

Then he said “ Want to tell me what’s in the cauldron and I can keep it going while you eat. “ Ignoring any mention of potential credit or profit like he always did with Jasper’s prank shop ideas.  While this was fun, it certainly was a venture that Jasper’s family was supporting and in his mind would fail.  After all, he couldn’t imagine there were enough people who would buy prank products in the wizarding world.

Still, he encouraged his best friend as he looked over at the cauldron and said “ Or I could guess that from the purple and texture this is some sort of hair gel for the girls. “  Considering the fact he had sisters he knew his guess had to be wrong as no girl would trust a colored hair gel - though color could easily removed in refinement of a product.

12:15AM @ The Snake Pit

He’d finished his internship at St. Mungos earlier in the day and had a whole day free before term.  A freedom that was less than an hour away with his last shift at the Snake Pit ending just after close of the shift he was working tonight.  Yes, he’d had days off over the summer but they’d always been followed with the responsibility of showing up to St. Mungos afterwards.  A responsibility that even if he’d shown up more tired than he should have a couple of times he limited how late he stayed out to ensure he’d be presentable.

Tonight he had zero intention of limiting how late he stayed out.  He had every intention of going dancing with his friends in muggle London after his shift and likely staying out till he had to fetch his things from his flat tomorrow.  A fetching that only required him to be awake enough to hand over the keys to his room, and carry his things to the Hogwarts Express where he could sleep.

Though first he had to get through the last bit of his shift as he made his way down the bar wiping it clean as he went.  An action that was more to slow his movements so he could talk to customers than actual cleaning.  One of the more practical skills he learned this summer about talking to people and gave him time to read them a bit.

Though his reading now was done with his wand quietly in his hand as he attempted to read the Aura of the patron that was alone at the end of the bar.  Then he walked over and said “ Kitchen’s going to close soon.  I find the chicken tenders good for a pick me up before heading to the next party. “

Words he regretted saying as soon as they came out of his mouth as with his excitement for where he was going after he let it slip his mind was on the next party, not the job he was doing at the bar.  Or even worse it could be mistaken as him trying to hit on the person - he wasn't.  Even worse there was no saving of his words as he didn't know a single place in the wizarding world that would fit the bill.

OOC: If you want Tigran to read your aura make an OOC note of what colors he’d see, if not I’ll assume no note means he failed.

He saw the interest in the boy before him and realized not long ago he’d been as small as he was towards the beginning of his Hogwarts journey.  Though it wasn’t time for such thoughts even if he was days from starting his last year in the castle.  No he was debating the word anything.

With a smile he said “ It’s worked on everything I’ve tried it on. “  Or at least the final version of the product had, even if he suspected Jasper had tried it on far more things than he had with him not asking the results of those tests.  It must have passed as it was a product.  Then he added quickly “ I haven’t tried moving and it takes a bit for it to blend into the surroundings so I suspect that won’t work well. “

With a smirk he said " Remember the practical uses stuff when you are at Hogwarts. So what's the prank idea you got? " As he fully expected all these products to find their way to the castle and next term to be a nightmare with them.  Though as a causer of a good number of these nightmares he was excited to see it all in action.

Muspell / Re: The Magical Mind | Altair

To his recollection he admittedly had never thought of the concept of quenching the mind until Marcus mentioned it moments ago which made Marcus’ question confuse him.  A confusion that caused him to pause letting Marcus continue on about traveling into the otherworld which was something he normally didn’t consider.

Carefully he said “ I must admit I haven’t considered quenching the mind till you mentioned it moments ago. “

Part of him did wonder at what he said when the spoke previously but he couldn’t remember anything close to the idea of where his mind was taking the term quenching.

Then he continued “ I’ll also admit a lack of practical familiarity with the Otherworld.  Though I’d imagine quenching much like it can be used in metallurgy could potentially be a training technique meant to overwhelm the mind with the objective of strengthening it as ones mind has a natural sense to resist invasion.  I've read of many meditation based divination exercises and even used themselves to increase my understanding of interpreting auras, and there was an exercise in the same book I didn't try about attempting to read auras in an active crowd that had an emotional focal point on something then focusing away from that common emotion. “

Then he paused as he considered the spirits around them as he said questioningly “ Spirits.  How?”

As while he could sense and interact with the spirits and tried to come off as confident he was well aware they had nothing to lose unlike him.  The idea of trusting spirits to guard his body while he drifted into the Otherword was even more reckless in his mind of trusting anyone living.  At least living people ultimately had there life to still lose.

"Some day, you'll become a good Occlumens,”

His eyes widened though his head didn’t shift from looking at the book he was reading when he heard those words.  Though, admittedly of the things he was working on at this point becoming an occlumens wasn’t even something he tried to hide from Marcus.  Mostly, as even if he achieved his goals there it wouldn’t be something his extended family could leverage.

A few blinks later his reaction on his face disappeared leaving a smile behind as it was rare someone said he’d be good at something he found to be worthwhile being good at.

Then he turned the page of the book as Marcus went away continuing to study the words within.

The usage of the word quenching was interesting.

Saying nothing he blinked unsure.

The pluralization of times in Marcus’ wording showing a recklessness he couldn’t imagine combined with the implications of purposefulness.

The stopped looking at his book and turned towards Marcus trying to determine if this was an actual intellectual discussion or some sort of trap.  As considering his own incident two summers prior where he’d been overwhelmed by his sensitivity to ghosts and ended up in St. Mungos due to the headaches it could easily be a trap.  That incident  obvious in his medical records and due to it being why he ended up in Ministry custody when they discovered his parents had dipped likely was in all sorts of records.

He noticed the tattoo, then was distracted by the switch in subject and slightly regretted not speaking faster.

Though with a blink he spoke “ I’ll admit I’m unfamiliar with alchemy. “  A subject that he’d come across but due to the fact that any success in it would make him more interesting to his extended family than he wanted to be - and he certainly wouldn’t want to play any part in making any member of the Razi family immortal.

If this were a trap he accepted he was going to fall.  Thoughtfully he said with a slow carefulness in his words that wasn’t typical of his normally quicker speaking patterns “ I don’t recommend the potions from St. Mungos if your mind gets truly overwhelmed as I feel as if they linger reducing ones inner control. “

Then he paused and continued curiously “ Did you just open your mind in a free environment?  Or did you use tools or assistance to ensure control of what could potentially come in when you attempted to quench your mind? “

His eyes went right back to the book he was reading not concerned that the ghosts would likely pull Marcus away from this conversation as he had zero clue how to explain his interest in the magical mind without revealing too much.  Revelations that would mean admitting things that would potentially give Marcus the sort of leverage he wasn’t willing to hand out to someone he hardly knew.

Then he heard the next question which put him even more at alert as no one asked him  what he’d like to do without an ulterior motive.  Yes, there was a chance Marcus was different but that wasn’t an assumption he was going to make of anyone - especially someone working in Knockturn Alley.

He said “ I’ve got enough classmates that ramble through the options of anything only to get themselves nowhere, so I can’t say I’ve ever really thought about it.  As much as I like reading books and researching topics that interest me choosing from anything isn’t an option outside hobbies.”

Hobbies which he counted researching the magical mind like he was doing now, and brewing potions to help his friend Jasper with his prank shop.

"How is London? Anything interesting?”

With a smile he said “ London has been good.  I’ve really been enjoying my internship at St. Mungos. “  He also enjoyed the stability of a rented room and the fact he was able to pay the rent with what he was earning over the summer.  Naturally, he had some help from Tim, and likely by extension the Ministry, in getting his rented room but it was one he could make enough to pay off.  He also enjoyed the fact he was able to earn a bit of extra money on the side working as a bartender in the Snake Pit that he was confident he’d gotten at least a couple weeks rent saved up.

Then he saw Ren which made him blink in surprise as he hadn’t expected to see the other boy.  With the mention of him being popular due to this he shook his head and said “ Nah.  I’ve been here, and trust me when I recommend leaving it unmentioned to all but your closest friends. “  There were enough people at Hogwarts, with his pureblood prat-ish cousins coming first to mind, that would take advantage of any ammo to use to demonstrate they were superior.  In his younger years, before Luca’s family let him down, he’d of suggested mentioning if the boy thought he had a friend who might let him stay over on breaks but he knew that was a situation that wouldn’t last from experience.  Now, he didn’t mention it to his closest friends unless it came up or they found out like Eira had.  Though he was oddly thankful for that as somehow it was better for Eira than where she’d been.

Then looked around and said “ Chester give that bag you got to Ren next. “  As he figured that one was most likely to have something Ren would like in it as he’d purposefully handed it off to Chester who was one of his favorites - and thankfully Chester was smaller at seven so there wasn’t much competition for things where Ren was concerned.

Then he said “ I’m oddly excited for next year. “ As it was the first time since his third year he’d be getting on the train knowing for sure he not only get to enjoy the opening feast but get to stay the whole term.  He continued “ One thing I haven’t found in London is as good of a library that Hogwarts has.   You guys excited for anything? “

He nodded in agreement.  Not only were people complicated, the magical mind made wizards much more complicated than muggles in his observations.  Observations that would go unstated as they’d mean revealing how much of his time he’d spent in the muggle world in his past.

Two years ago he would have jumped at the opportunity to explore quelling the magical mind.  In fact, he’d tried to read every book Professor Kara, and the Hogwarts library he could find that was half close to that due to a desire then to quell his own mind in order to control it.

He said “ Not anymore.  Though I did read a theory a year or so back that compared some of the divination abilities of the magical mind to senses like sight and hearing.  It theorized that silencing them might result in other areas of magic becoming stronger.  Regrettably, I believe the author who wrote it was biased by their lack of abilities in the area of divination. “

He saw Marcus get up and noticed some activity of his ghosts at one of the bookshelves, but dismissed it.

He said “ My interest now is more in understanding the magical mind.  Though I imagine that perspective research wise if you have recommendations would be interesting still to read about. “

Hogsmeade Children's Home / Presents | Eira/Open

August 29th, Evening
Hogsmeade Children's Home Entranceway

He’d visited the orphanage a couple times over the summer.  Though his visits had been brief much like they’d been during term as he was no longer living there.  Instead, he got help renting a room in wizarding London to be closer to his internship.

This visit he had a couple of bags of good quality toys and clothes he’d gotten at various thrift stores over the summer.  As there really was something to seeing Alyse dance around with her stuffed bunny he’d given her last year.  He only hoped he found something that good this year for her and some of the others.

Though this year would be different as he knew his friend Eira was there from Hogwarts.  Or not so different as he walked in and Alyse came running up to hug his waist with him handing her the stuffed animal bag first.  Then he said "Take a toy and an outfit.  There should be enough for everyone to get at least one.". Then all but one of the other smaller bags went towards the kids assembling.

Then he looked towards Eira and said "Sorry the toys are a bit more geared towards the younger ones, but I think you might like one of the fall jackets in here."  With him handing her the only other bag he hadn't handed to the general group of them.

OOC: Please let Eira post before joining the thread...

With a smirk he said “ Just be careful around the common room as regrettably your housemates aren’t that experienced in staying invisible so I kamiflaged one of them on the way outside when they said something stupid. “  Though he thought him hexing one of Eira’s housemates might count as a public service as the girl was an annoying pureblood prat.

He left off the fact he also silenced her.  All he could hope the girl was so embarrassed that it went unmentioned so he’d not get detention.

A couple hours later

He held back his complaints about the cold, minus one joke that he wasn’t made for it earlier.  Now that was behind them as he’d warmed the rock as he’d planned and made a nice little transparent conjured bubble around them with an opening in front of them to keep them cosy.

Sitting atop a warm rock with Eira he said “ Serious question. How do you just not hex your housemates for being annoying? “

Then he pointed his wand up in the air and made the illusion of a few shooting stars.

His eyes paused on the sentence he was reading for a few seconds as he let Marcus’ question rattle around in his head.

He said “ It doesn’t. “

He wondered if it should for the purposes of this discussion - as it certainly wouldn’t in the scheme of things.  He wasn’t like his friend Jasper whose family was supporting him as he tried to open a prank shop - a business idea he couldn’t imagine would even support the shop’s rent let alone his friends own rent.  If he didn’t have a job that paid enough for him to rent a room he’d be homeless again, and he had zero intention of being homeless again.  Even if it should manner, his usual ability to think quick couldn’t come up with anything to pretend it did - and oddly he had zero desire to.

Then he chuckled as he said “ Even if I accidentally found a technique to quell the magical mind while retaining a wizards ability to perform spells I wouldn’t give it to St. Mungos who would likely have many healers celebrating it as a cure-all.  I’m rather confident St. Mungos has categorized more venoms from magical snakes than researched treatments for those impacted by afflictions related to the magical mind due to their uniqueness in case presentation. “

The book he was reading now, as well as the books he’d read prior, showed a pattern that he wasn’t even looking for such a hypothetical technique.

He shivered slightly and pointed his wand at himself casting yet another warming charm.  His dislike for the cold a constant now that he knew how deep it could get within his bones - something he aimed to never feel again.

He wasn’t sure where to walk outside as the fact was he wanted to get away from the castle certainly, but he didn’t want to trouble anyone with a search in the forbidden forest either.  So he just walked towards the lake.

He said “ Reading mostly.  I found a neat book on memory charms.  I never really thought about oblivate and with control over it how damaging it could be.  Thankfully no one on the dueling block has the control to be a real obliviator. “  Then he took a deep breath knowing there was no avoiding the holidays as he asked “ Have you found enjoyable things to occupy yourself with over the break. “

He said “ An object that close to you giving the aura of being loved likely means you have a sense of inner peace and confidence which can say a lot about you.”. Though that wasn't the sort of emotion that brought one alone to a bar like Dylan appeared to be.

With a chuckle he said “ While I must admit my surprise at that sorting, everyone else seems to guess correctly Ravenclaw within minutes of meeting me.”  The wording purposely to avoid the minor detail of the was he or wasn’t he still a Ravenclaw.  While Tim be able to go back next year, but until he didn’t get kicked out of the opening feast he wasn’t going to get his hopes up of going back for his seventh year.

He blinked again at the mention of Altair whom he looked up to greatly which made him lean over the counter and whisper “ He’s more than good at divination the control over the ghosts in his shop proves that. “.  As Knockturn Alley was an interesting place and something made him look at Dylan and feel the man was slightly out of place in it.

Then he returned to his normal stance behind the bar as Dylan compared his statement to something his ex-boyfriend would have said.   A point he was going to let drop especially with the word healer in the sentence.  He worked at St. Mungos and he had zero intention of ruining that consoling anyone at this job which was so much less than the potential opportunity that St. Mungos held for his future.

The second part he could only nod to.  He was a Razi and being a good listener was something that was expected of him since he was a child.  It also helped he had a good memory.  With a smile he said “ Thanks “ unsure of anything else that could be said to that statement.

Him a double agent the statement made him laugh.

He wasn’t stupid he knew compared to the Razi family the ministry held little power.  After all, Indigo was bringing someone he was about to put into Azkaban into St. Mungos for a check-up prior.  His family would just put them into the ground for a slight against them, or otherwise eliminate them from concern.

He shrugged when Indigo mentioned him pretending to be something he wasn’t.  He’d spent years tanking his grades starting so they wouldn’t be used to benefit his family in marrying his sisters off to slugs older than Indigo, and then he continued it so his extended family didn’t find him worth noticing.  The catch was he was now seventeen so there was no tossing him in their custody should they choose to want him.

With a smirk he said “ I can’t say I’m sorry that all that pretending tanked any chances of me becoming whomever you or anyone else thought I should be. “

He choose to ignore that Brutus’ father still gave him job offers, but he suspected that had something to do with an acknowledgment that Brutus was soft and he’d covered for his cousin while at Hogwarts.  Which was leverage enough to ensure Brutus’ father wouldn’t pull him into things unwillingly.

His wand continued to attempt to heal as much on the woman before as he could even if neither her nor Indigo likely cared about such details.

“Save it for my corpse.”

He said “ I’ll have it ready for the day you can’t sidestep it in the triage department.  I'd hate to waste my skills on your corpse. “

As he looked over the woman there were obviously things that could be done if she stayed overnight, or better days to detox herself from the vices she’d drowned herself in.  The catch was for now admittedly there wasn’t much he could do else.

He said “ I was always told as a boy to relax and still my thoughts when I ended up at Azkaban so the dementors went after weaker people like her first. “  He regretted the slip of word immediately.  Hoping it would go unnoticed he continued and putting the focus clearly on the patient as he said “ Would giving her a potion to help her relax help.  It is evident she has little control over herself and has drowned so far in vices that it would take time she’ll never get to detox. “

"Are you going to watch it?”

He said “Yes, and if there isn’t one I’ll illusion enough fake meteors that the kids in the towers look outside and think there is one. “ Or maybe not as he thought about it as he really didn’t want them all wandering outside and joining him with their infectious cheer that felt more like salt being applied to the wound of his situation.

As much as he hated how his father had avoided them all with his depression, and then once he got his letter avoided him due to jealousy he had magic.  He now partly got it.  The kiddos were better off without him being a jealous pouty grinch.  The catch was the kiddo’s in the castle didn’t need him like he’d needed his father as a boy before he dipped - so that partly wasn’t enough to garner any forgiveness on his part.

He started walking forward towards the grounds hoping they’d not be joined by carolers or the sort as he said “ I was thinking of conjuring a bubble to sit in on a good rock around the lake that was transfigured to be warmer after our walk. “

He had zero intention of re-entering the castle that night.

He was pleased he managed to succeed with his illusion at least entertaining Dylan. Though considering he was delivering drinks it was a job in which the customer was usually pleased - unless they were crazy.

Who named their stuffed toy Bagel?  Or had a bagel instead of a teddy bear.   His time in the Hogsmeade Children’s Home made him realize that a teddy bear, bunny, or similar stuffed animal seemed to accompany each new little kid on arrival.  Thankfully, he’d been working at the Snake Pit long enough to keep his face relatively blank when customers said strange things.  Though an eyebrow did raise.

Curiously he asked “ Did Bagel tell you anything enlightening about yourself? “  As he could only assume if it was Dylan’s stuffed toy it was mostly Dylan who interacted with it.  A much less confusing thing to try to read than a glass in a bar - not that he actually knew as he’d never actually tried psychometry himself. He also didn’t really have anything of his that was old due to losing pretty much everything he owned three years back.

Then he blinked at the mention of Altair reacting slightly as that was a man he’d not call bloke.  Nor would he take anything given from him lightly.  His curiosity was peaked and he was thankful that all he’d seen was a signal for a drink which he quickly moved to the side to pour and slide down the bar to the gentleman who’d sat six seats down.

Returning to focusing on Dylan he said “ It’s never too late to study something of interest even if one isn’t in school. “  A statement mostly formed from the fact that even though he’d been in school at Hogwarts he never had the commitment to it beyond entertainment once his parents dipped.  He continued “ I think it has to do with the person.  I've found people tend to dwell on memories that re-enforce what they are feeling, or what their goals are. “

It was a trap he'd fallen into to many times with bad memories spiraling his own doubts of things making him feel more uncertain in the rough situations he'd been in these past few years.  Not that he'd admit that as a bartender serving drinks at a bar and supposed to be consoling the customers.  Though this was more an intellectual conversation than consoling thankfully.
