Late September
Magical Bugs Ward - Evening

One thing about being in the newest class of junior healers was sometimes one got to observe other departments and do a walk-along.  Something he was the first to volunteer for not even caring what the department or what was being asked.  One thing he learned at his earliest job on the docks was it was important to know a bit about everything.  Just like he learned how to clean ships, anchor boats, unload freight, and run coal as a boy on the docks of South London the same applied at St. Mungos.

Earlier today, actually yesterday, during the morning he unthinkingly volunteered himself for a day assisting in the morgue.  All he remembered beyond things that seemed routine was the headache that was more an imbalance caused throbbing than due to the noise as the morgue was quiet minus the work that was being done - much quieter than any wing he worked in.  A headache that naturally went unmentioned until he was questioned by the healer who had come into the room he was in now about six hours ago after he’d woken up.  As if there was something Tigran Razi wasn’t going to do, it was admit weakness and give anyone he didn’t have to leverage over him.

He’d thought he’d gotten used to ghosts after his last similar incident prior to fifth year at Hogwarts, but apparently he was wrong.  Or he was assuming it was some oversensitivity to spirits and ghosts that had or similar magical sensory issue that had overwhelmed him back then.  It was his only theory to what happened prior to his fifth year and the periodic smaller headaches he’d pushed off since that he could similarly recall some sort of spirits in the area.  Furthermore, in training for occlumency he’d learned mental exercises to block off his mind and focus his thoughts which he’d done as he felt his head start aching yesterday to near zero effect.

At least his headache was better now, even if he’d passed out somewhere likely embarrassingly while working in the morgue as a healer.

Actually his headache was much better now as they’d just wheeled out the last roommate who had complained enough to him that he’d started asking questions back out of curiosity.  Which combined with the fact that he was only 5’ 6” and his healers robes he’d been wearing transfigured a mute grey like patients robes made his complaining room mate tell him more than he told the healers.  A few questions into his curiosity the man’s story fell apart and he was obviously purely looking to get pain potions due to a bit of unregistered dueling which was why he had freckled marks from a not fully reversed boil causing hex.

It was a problem for spell damage and one based on the man’s grumbling they’d dealt with before - the problem being the older man himself not his easily fixable ailments.

Hearing the door open again he hoped he’d be able to talk whomever was coming in to check on him into bringing him a book - getting a case out of the ward had to be worth a prize.  Even one of the super boring medical books, but at seeing Catherine his face quickly went to confusion, then fear.  Could him collapsing be a fireable offense?  If not, missing the shift he had scheduled in an hours time might be?  How had he forgotten about his upcoming shift?

Was he really so out of it that he was just thinking about the problem he had like he would as a healer trying to find a solution, not the implications of it being him?  Apparently yes.

Nervously he said “ Director. “

London Marketplace / Re: Unwinding | Cordelia
« on: 04/26/2025 at 02:12 »
He chuckled.  Cordelia was right, but the fact was where they were seated was a fact of the night from practically the moment they walked in.  As was who was around.  The whole looking around affair should have been a brief glance only when others walked in though it felt like more.  He had this feeling like he was being watched an odd instinctual feeling that was making him oddly uncomfortable.

With a smirk he said “ Probably, but they should be trying harder to impress the people at their own tables.  Definitely happy I'm a healer then even with the unexpected mountains of paperwork that brings.“  Which with that he started focusing on Cordelia and ignoring the surroundings again - minus acknowledging where he was at enough to not cause embarrassment to Cordelia.

Apparently he was wrong again and it wasn’t Hogwarts itself it was the drama.  Before he could say anything he heard Cordelia continue and let out a laugh alongside a strange confused look when she mentioned eloping.  Though he said nothing as he blinked and his face returned to a more natural expression.

He got the tension of Hogwarts.  He spent seven years in the castle mostly disliked by the majority of his extended family of cousins in the castle minus temporary truces.  Then there was all the extended people who didn’t even look at him because of his cousins resulting in him only having a small group he actually cared about.

He asked “ I don’t got much advice there.  We both know I ignore a lot of people as I’m not playing the game and with my prat-ish cousins I came in practically immune to the coded looks and such.  No saying you have to play the game by there rules? “

A lie.  However, he wasn’t admitting how much his cousins and others had gotten in his head at various points over the year making him feel worse about where he was than the crappy reality of it all.  He also wasn't admitting that he was oddly playing the game even now in order to attempt to help Cordelia.

Something scandalous.  Now that could be fun if it wasn’t here.

Well, he’d be foolish to tell her something truly scandalous here.  Even if there was the illusion of privacy at these tables as they couldn’t really overhear other he wasn’t foolish enough to think there truly was any sort of privacy here.  He even was doing mental exercises to try to keep his mind as blank and blocked as possible using occlumency.  Even if he was rather certain it hadn’t worked with Indigo, perhaps it might work here where anyone else would have been further.

Thankfully, he doubted the idea of them faking there relationship would be worthwhile enough for anyone to use knowledge wise - it certainly wasn’t worthwhile enough to break any illusions of privacy most here foolishly thought they had.  A foolish that regrettably included Cordelia for now - as it certainly wouldn’t later if he had any say in the manner.

Instead he said in a whisper “ I was curious. “

Then he shrugged and continued in a more normal tone “ No one individually get’s seated here that isn’t at least of a certain tier.  Reservations have everyone at the table listed.  I remember as a child one of my. “ Then he paused trying to think and had no clue how the woman was related to him.  “ My, well I don’t know but she was teaching a lesson to some of my upper class cousins that my grandfather Razi insisted I go to.  Gave a whole lecture on this place down to implications of the significance of where people are seated.  No idea if it is true, but supposedly there are about five strategically empty tables reserved for the minister depending on who he had with him at a moments notice. “

It went unsaid the truly scandalous part of it all was they were allowed into the restaurant period.

Then he whispered " I don't remember much of it.  Were you stuck in lessons like that? "

He understood not knowing what one wanted to become at the age Eira was.  At this moment before his own fifth year he’d been in St. Mungos being forced into the wizarding social service system after deciding he was done with the wizarding world complete with a muggle job lined up.  That muggle job was going to be the what he’d become an accepted what that would work on the docks and railroads till he could get into one of the unions which would make the decision of which for him.

Being tossed into the wizarding system and back to Hogwarts before his fifth year had changed the course of his life and made him reconsider his wants.  Wants that reverted back as close as wizardingly possible of the dream he had of becoming a muggle doctor he had before he’d even gotten his Hogwarts letter.

He nodded as she mentioned wanting to be a business woman like her aunt.  He wondered if anyone had stepped in when he needed it with a good example in the wizarding world if he’d of wanted to be like them.  Though the mention of legilimency was an interesting note, one that showed a failing in whatever lessons Eira was being taught.

He debated mentioning his own interest and pursuit of the subject, but stopped considering the eagerness he suspected Eira had to please the Zdravkova family.

He said “ It’s interesting legilimency.  I’ve always looked at it as one of those things people claim to have the ability for as way to say they know something they found out through some other connection they don’t want to admit.  Though, I’ve also read some interesting medical journals about the wizarding mind relating to it as an expansion of how we can hear ghosts but muggles can’t hear them.  Like a trainable extension of ones senses opposed to a gift of divination ability such as seers are.  If you decide to pursue it I’d be happy to point you to some good references I’ve found over the years. “

His words lies as he knew legilimency was something families like theirs, and those who got high in the ministry ranks specialized in for the advantages it gave them to read peoples mind.  It was the whole reason he was interested and working on learning occlumency so he’d not be those peoples stepping stone - and to protect his own thoughts.

He hoped if Eira did pursue it she’d mention it to him in the future, but he was smart enough to know Eira was an open book to the Zdravkova family at this time.  An open book he'd rather be an uninteresting footnote in if his name were mentioned to them.  As he was truly uninterested in the Zdravkova or even his own families enterprises at the current time.

He continued “ I heard more talk of psychometry growing up, which is reading the history of objects, being pursued due to the practicality it has in many lines of business.  When, I was working as a bartender last summer at the Snake Pit and it was entertaining how often people would try to sell things off and use enchantments to give off an energy they claimed was something else.  Psychometry got me a good extra tip one night when someone folded quickly after I was asked to look at an weird object.  Still not sure what it really was as they ran quick. “

Then after a pause he asked “ Did you have any idea of what you wanted to become or your goals before the Zdravkova family?  Obviously, things have changed but …“

He let himself stop before finishing that sentence curious how the blank would fill itself.

The words Edmund said about not being fooled by the waiting room were exactly one of his life strategies.  It was basically his life philosophy for years to not let people see how bad off he was when he was bad off.  To hold his cards close to the chest to protect himself and not reveal how bad off he was.  To say he was a horrible patient himself would be an understatement as he always tried to give the impression that he was good.

With a smirk he said “ Worst case I got practice from looking in the mirror “ trying to keep things light.

Though, he doubted today would be light as when he got to go to other departments now it often wasn’t on the day of routine or boring.  He only seemed to see those days in the Magical Bugs ward.

With a breath as Ed began describing the patient, he looked at the healer a bit more seriously letting the smirk he had on his face before fall into a more neutral expression.  He knew how important it was to be professional and as he took the file he knew time for pleasantries was over.

He listened carefully as Ed described the patient and the disease that he’d only read about.  A disease that wasn’t limited to children but could happen to anyone.  If the kid were a bit older the kid could easily have been in the Magical Bugs department.  He was curious about the test so opened the file that was handed to him and nodded as Ed pointed towards the page with the result.

He looked at the result seeing there was little debate based on what he’d read.  Though, thankfully if he remembered correctly the cure was therapy with ennervate expanding on the connection between the mind and the rest of the body.  He said “ I’ll admit I’ve only read about the disease.  Some of the theories on the degeneration of the patient of it that makes ennervate therapy work have resulted in some interesting theories of how ones magic is tied to ones neurological systems. “

Probably all those things that were all best unsaid in front of the patient.  With a shrug he said “ Suffice to say, pretty much everything I’ve read would bore a twelve year old so I agree it would be better you lead.  Especially with the relationship you’ve built as things got to this point.  The kid will appreciate hearing it from someone they know. “

Yes, he knew that many junior healers would have tried to interject more things to be impressive and want to take the lead to prove themselves.  The catch was to him the kid was more important and he knew in dealing with Ed that Ed would handle this much better.  Plus, any theories he'd read wouldn't help the kid get treated faster and on the road to recovery sooner.

London Marketplace / Unwinding | Cordelia
« on: 04/23/2025 at 01:37 »
Late August
A Fancy Exclusive Restaurant

His food was half finished on his plate as he looked up towards Cordelia and around at the restaurant they were in.  His posture and words were proper and complementary of Cordelia just like the lessons taught him as a child.  He sprinkled in questions of curiosity trying to reveal what had made Cordelia’s mood change over the past month but was still clueless and hadn’t truly pushed.  A real boyfriend would have more of a clue than him, but he took it as yet another sign he was never meant to be a real boyfriend material - even real friend material was debatable.  Not that it concerned him as he knew how to make himself useful to people and had been taught that was more important than friendship his whole life.  Still the few good friendships he had mannered to him greatly - like Cordelia.

The reservation to the restaurant itself should have been something he’d never have been able to make.  The truce that had formed with the younger members of his extended family could be attributed to him dating Cordelia, who worked in the Minister’s office, or even his own recent successes.  Him getting this reservation was another level entirely that should have been blocked by the Ministry idiot who somehow had gotten the position of Head of the Razi family.  Perhaps the fact that three heads of his family had died in the few years time since his grandfather who held the position for decades dulled the new head’s influence.  If his grandfather was still alive he knew the reservation would have been blocked at his grandfather’s second wife’s insistence - even in his head he couldn’t call her grandmother as she wasn’t his.

The pressure of the whole situation combined with feeling like he was being watched made him involuntarily shiver.  At least he was pretty confident he wasn't being heard except for the waiter who came by occasionally due to charms cast to give everyone at the tables some sort of exclusive privacy for their words.  Breaking, the formality he’d be wearing like a costume he awkwardly leaned over the table and whispered  “ Why do I feel like more people are looking around than looking at whom they are with? “  He himself had looked around a few times, but had mostly focused on Cordelia and the conversation they’d had which he’d interrupted with his odd observation due to his sheer discomfort with the place.

He took a deep breath trying not to think about where he was.  This was about Cordelia and this was certainly a place her being seen would potentially get back to her grandfather positively and perhaps elevate her a bit in her goals of the Ministry.  Though part of him even wondered how much Cordelia realized such things as he doubted her family had the teachings his did - even if he was never meant to use those teachings like he was currently.

Then he took a slower breath and said " Don't stress over seventh year.  It's just exams and you got through OWLs so you know what to expect.  Plus, you made it through a ministry intern so you can milk that into a position after graduation.  The cards in your hand so start playing them. "  It was a new tactic in trying to figure out what was wrong, as he was clueless.  Though admittedly exams were never something that made him nervous except for the night before OWLs and then it was just logistical questions as he had no idea what to expect after signing up for them without thinking.

6
He nodded.

The mention of etiquette, even if boring a subject, was in his mind a good one.  Low level lackeys didn’t need etiquette.  In fact, for low level lackeys etiquette could almost hurt them as once one started talking in the higher circles one would start gaining more ambition.  That and the realization that they were the muscle that fueled the success of those higher than them.

At least Eira had some reality in the situation, but there was something to be said for being treated well and like family.  He missed it even from his own family that had ditched him.  It was the reason he still helped Brutus out on occasion and would occasionally sit at the bar with his cousins listening to them yammer on about things foolishly.  There was a bond with family due to shared experiences that even if he didn’t like them for the most part it created a sort of truce.

With a small smile he said “ I get it.  There’s a weird bond of that family has that doesn’t seem to work outside of it.  A collective goal that families like ours have. “

He understood the temptation.  Brutus’ father had even offered him a job and a place to work for him multiple times since his parent’s death - the only one who had in his extended family.  The catch was he knew that place.  He’d spent a large amount of time at Hogwarts trying to lift Brutus from being the lackey he was becoming now that he graduated.  As he knew, unlike himself, Brutus was too soft and would just end up tossed aside unless Brutus’ father protected him.  He also knew he was one of the ways Brutus' father was trying to protect Brutus.

Then he smirked as he said “ I’ve never seen pawns taught etiquette beyond the basics to fool them into thinking they’ve been taught it.  Brutus is a good example of that. “

Then he looked around and said “ Things like the connections you can get from having good etiquette and learning the circles, good grades on you exams, and reputation for being skilled can be both good insurance policies and help you mold how you’re fit into that puzzle. “

He knew most didn’t think about the influence they had on their own position.  It wasn’t something he’d thought about till he’d reached rock bottom on the streets realizing how much he could influence others perception of him and used those childhood lessons to do just that.

Then he said " What do you want to become? "

7
He wasn’t sure to take the nod from Reginald as a sign he was understood or as a sign of approval.  Though the difference between the two things was meaningless at the moment as the performance was for Cordelia so all that mannered was how she interpreted the situation.  As a healer he wondered sometimes how much patients understood in this moments making him all the more thankful for the man’s responses.

Even if he barely shrugged with the smallest of nods to the comment about interviewing for a position.  He wasn’t interviewing.  He already technically had it which was the attitude he had to have for this performance.  A technicality in the fact that he was the official boyfriend.  The fact that the whole relationship was fake for the purpose of deceiving the man before them went unsaid.

In Cordelia’s silence he was finding an odd footing.  All he could do was hope it wasn’t himself putting his foot in his mouth.

He made no comment on bloodlines.  After all, if there was one thing he could say as a Razi was that bloodlines lasted longer than charm in his family.  The other two questions were easier.  Though they were best combined into one answer as considering they were both Ravenclaws within a year of each other the meeting place was obviously due to being in the same house at Hogwarts.

He said “ It’s weird the things that graduating from Hogwarts makes you realize about the people you’re around and how you take their constant presence for granted.  Being in the same house and attending the summer camp when school was out it was like Cordelia was always there so I didn’t really think about it or how close we were as friends. “

He took a deep breath before continuing as the first words were feelings he had as other friends had graduated with him left behind at Hogwarts just as much as now with him himself graduating.  As his own family had taught him - always base a lie in truth.

He continued “ I’m not sure when my feelings towards Cordelia started changing. “

It would go unsaid that they hadn’t he still only thought of Cordelia as a friend.  Though this part of the performance was for Reginald.

Taking a breath he said “ Those suitors were the push I needed to figure out how I felt, and actually ask her out.  I’m thankful she said yes. “

An answer that was the round about truth.  Which allowed him to have a calm heartfelt tone when he said it.

8
He nodded and calmly observed Cordelia who seemed to be more and more nervous as they reached towards the room.  The shaking of her hands as she adjusted his collar was more than unexpected as he always saw Cordelia as the strong bossy one.  The one that hexed Brutus in Transfiguration class in front of Professor Ivansko and didn’t even flinch as she ended up carrying his things.  Which worked out for him as Brutus was letting him borrow some of the books he had as part of his payment for doing his cousin’s homework.

Cordelia’s reaction made him more interested in Reginald Von Stein than the second rate suitors Reginald had sent Cordelia’s way.

He tilted his head unable to prevent a slight smirk from crossing his purposefully blank expression.  Though he said nothing just raising an eye and taking in the appearance of Reginald Von Stein who wouldn’t be regarded as a patient as long as Cordelia was in the room short of Reginald having some sort of emergency.  He hoped he wouldn’t give the man a heart attack somehow - a thought he should have considered earlier and looked into more of his medical records to be prepared for.

“Didn’t trust him, but I respected him. Enough to know he wouldn’t spawn a fool.”

A chuckle escaped his mouth at that statement as it was oddly funny to him as Rupert Razi did spawn a couple of fools with his own father being a prime example.  Regrettably that couldn’t be blamed on his biological grandmother as the pattern continued with some of the children born of his second wife.

“What’s so different about you, then? Why does she look at you like you aren’t made of the same parts as the rest?”

He didn’t even look at Cordelia as he felt her hand intertwine with his own.  A feeling he was used to between all the times his sisters did it as well as MJ.  Though it did trigger in his head a change in who the audience of the performance was today.

This performance was for Cordelia not Reginald.

With a shrug he said calmly “ Forget them.  They were second rate on paper alone, with personality flaws that should have disqualified them before they were even sent. “

It would go unsaid that on paper both himself and Cordelia were second rate as well.  As he remembered what the flash cards him and his more well off Razi cousins had to memorize of facts about prominent pureblood families said about the Von Stein family.  The one thing that made Cordelia the most interesting of the bunch being a woman with magic when the rest were squibs.

It would also go unsaid that he hoped Reginald hadn’t interviewed them and got the names from old contacts he had trying to pass off some of the second tier scraps they had to help make arrangements for before they made arrangements for themselves.

“Well, if nothing else, the two of you have my curiosity. Don’t squander it.”

Reminding himself again this performance was for Cordelia not Reginald he said “ What are you curious about?  I’m sure you’ve heard enough mention of me around the halls of St. Mungos. “

Then he paused adding “Ravenclaw“ another breath “Head boy.“

A smirk crossed his face as he finished with “An intern prior to graduating that was quickly hired to Junior Healer in Magical Bugs a department where there’s always a bit of competition to get in.”

It would go unsaid he hadn’t listed a preference and said that his goal was to grow as a junior healer with a request to be placed wherever needed.  A request made out of desperation as he was worried he’d not get the job when more influential families had their kids apply to compete against him.  He also had no idea if there was competition to get in that department, but all the healers he worked with there so far seemed impressive enough to him.

It would also go unsaid that his general attitude and words in responding made him appear just as flawed as many of those suitors in the department of personality.  Though his words were calculated to give him a gauge of the man who likely had dealt with cocky attitudes in the past, and likely held similar himself.

9

His outfit was simple, though he’d bought himself a cigar-brown dress suit jacket from a higher-end wizarding menswear store on Diagon Alley to accent the rest of the outfit.  A suit jacket that had the inside pocket, starting at the second button from the bottom, that was meant to be used with an Extension Charm as it was so flat into lining yet had a wide opening expecting larger things to be placed inside it.  He’d not cast that charm on the still empty pocket, but just the existence of it changed how the front of the jacket fell with the other side matching.  The rest of the outfit was a striped white and light-blue shirt with a textured dark blue tie and dress pants he transfigured to match the tie in color.  Only the black shoes were what he typically wore to his job at St. Mungos as a Junior Healer.

He knew this was as much an appearances test as a personality one.  As a Razi he was much more prepared for the appearances part of it even if he had to spend about a week's salary on the jacket.  Though without it he knew he'd of failed that part as there was no transfiguring ones way into an outfit easily recognizable as casual high-end wizarding especially to a man who used to attend Wizengamot's and saw a lot of fakes.  Which if his own grandfather sat next to the man were likely pointed out as he remembered many stories from his grandfather on mistakes made in trying to fake such things - the secret is at least an accent piece must be real ( like his jacket in this instance ).

As he looked at the front of the hospital he realized it was the first time he’d ever walked into St. Mungos as a visitor.  He hadn’t been allowed to visit his own grandfather when he succumbed in the same place and had no cause otherwise to come to St. Mungos minus work or personal visits of which he could only remember the one prior to Hogwarts not involving a Ministry Social Worker dragging him.  It was easy to see Cordelia was nervous with the curse of her hair color changing making her emotions so visible - a statement he’d never say outloud.

He nodded at Cordelia mentioning the plan.  Though blinked as his mind caught up after the muggle phone joke that she’d mentioned a ministry library.

He said quickly with a bit of excitement “ Wait.  There’s a ministry library? “ at what was probably the wrong time considering the emphasis she was putting on the moment.  An emphasis he was trying not to think about as it had been years since he’d interacted with grudge-holding aristocrats who weren’t patients.

Smirking he said calmly acknowledging the moment “ None of the seven were Razi’s. “ He didn’t actually know if there was a Razi in the bunch, but if she had mentioned them he’d of had fun burying them.  He had enough dirt on most the Razi men in his vague age group, and if he didn’t just to keep Cordelia from potentially dealing with the Razi family he’d of made something embarrassing enough up.

He nodded and hugged Cordelia back realizing that this was about comforting her more than it was about any performance for Reginald Von Stein.

He walked into St. Mungos offering Cordelia his arm as he entered.  At the check-in station he handled the pleasantries and got the room number they both already knew.  As he’d ended up having her grandfather on rounds multiple times that he kept purely professional recognizing the name and being smart enough to not say anything that didn’t need to be professionally said or was meaningless small talk.

Before they turned the last hallway he whispered “ Don’t let him get to you.  If he somehow remembers my family let me deal with it.  Let’s say I’ve had some practice with people nervous to have a healer named Razi. “ Though this time if it came to that he’d have to take a very different approach as advertising he ended up tossed into the Hogsmeade Children’s Home after his parents dipped would imply his grandfather had done nothing.  A bad look as based on age and the fact they were both heads of family he suspected his grandfather was the Razi’s that Reginald Von Stein had likely dealt with - hopefully it was good.

Then he said “ Let’s take a couple deep breaths it will help still our minds and help reduce visible first reactions. “ Or it would with him and was one of his secrets to not reacting immediately.  He was curious if breath exercises to increase oxygen flow in a controlled manner taking one out of there normal rhythm could do the same to reduce Cordelia’s hair changing reactions.

There was no delaying the enviable as he waited for Cordelia to lead them into her grandfather’s room.

He was thankful she liked chocolates as one advantage they had was a bit longer a shelf life than flowers.  It was something he’d heard other guys complain about.  Though nothing he’d thought about as he was use to being the secret fling or fun time not the actual boyfriend.  Naturally, Erin was an exception to that but he was too young to really think of things in that relationship besides hexing his cousins anytime they said anything about him dating a halfblood.

He said “ I get that.  Jewelry also has that property of so-and-so even if not marked like a dog tag vibe. “  Which made it even worse when one considered the cost of a decent piece that would be worth giving to someone.

The book thing was cute.  It was an idea he wouldn’t have thought of, but fully intended to steal for the rest of his life.  He did love reading books but he wasn’t much for owning them himself so he typically just borrowed, or read books sitting in places.  Places that would prefer if he bought something so it would be a perfect compromise as he always worried about losing his belongings again as it had happened a couple times already.

As he took another bite of his food he realized it was almost done.  Which was probably good as he was going to sink fast on the scheming of performance aspects of a fake relationship - especially one with dramatic flair which wasn’t his thing.

“So? Think you can manage a poetic book inscription, Razi?”

If there was one thing he could manage it was that.  Well, he could pick out the book and he knew good places to look for a fun one Cordelia would find useful as well as could claim was romantic in a deep understanding of her type of way.  The inscription would probably be drafted by Jasper then toned down by him.

With a smirk he said “ I got some ideas.  I’ll make it good. “

Then he paused and said “ I won’t be warning you if I go to Jasper.  If you’re going to faint it needs to be real to many people around here know the difference.  It’s the ministry, quarter of what these folks do is misleading others into thinking they have relationships one way or another of all types. “

Which made it more of a challenge.  Though one that for Cordelia he’d figure out a way to rise to the occasion of.

He chuckled at the fact that Robbie said all of London could hear the debate.  They probably could.  With a smirk he said “ I’ve always wondered why the walls aren’t soundproofed there’s certainly the charms for it. “  Any concept of the sounds from the rooms helping in emergencies didn’t even cross his mind.

With a nod he said “ From the right side of the patient’s neck where things were more pronounced. “  Then he stepped back from the microscope he was using letting Robbie look if he wanted as he continued “ It has bits that resemble dandelions after the petals fall off.  I was expecting it all to look like mold if it was a real fungus. “

With mold being something he was very familiar with seeing in recent years on breaks from school from the jobs he had then.  Jobs he was more than thankful he didn’t have to have now like working as a janitor or bartender.

With a smirk he said “ Let’s say I’ve seen a lot of mold the fungus king in my life but nothing that I’d almost say was structurally pretty. “  It certainly wasn’t pretty on the patient and he hoped that if it was a magical bug it wasn’t contagious.  As contagious was one of the reasons he’d not put this assignment as one of his top choices.  A detail that would go unsaid as he’d learned long ago that everyone wanted to hear they were your top choice and he was smart enough to take that hint.

He’d worked enough jobs that one thing he did which was slightly different than many of his fellow junior healers was he showed up on-time to work instead of early.  He didn’t wear street clothes to work as he was more than capable of apparating to St. Mungos from his flat and didn’t need to worry about soot on the hems of his pants.  His polished black shoes hid soot and any other manner dirt that might hit them that he missed in giving them a morning cleaning with his wand.

As for supplies he kept his notebook on him and any thing else that was needed would be provided by whichever part of the hospital he was working.  Though there was a bit less variation in that now he was a junior healer not an intern.  Making him all the more thankful for the exposure he got as an intern.

Today would be no different.  Though it would be Edmund who nudged him towards trying for St. Mungos helping him get his first internship.  As without Edmund he’d of had no clue internships were things unconnected kids like him could even apply to as he’d always figured those things were negotiated by family elders and the sort.  A figuring based on that being what his grandfather told him he did for others, but along with his parents was gone before it could be a functionally useful detail.

At a minute before ten, he rounded the corner into the pediatrics wing seeing Edmund waiting.  It was only a kid running across his path that prevented him from being at the reception desk at 10 sharp, but he was close enough.

He said “Good morning “ looking between the person sitting at the reception desk and Edmund.  Then with a smirk he said to Edmund “ I’m taking a kid running around your wing as a sign this will be a good day. “

St. Mungo's / Drool | Caroline
« on: 04/11/2025 at 12:21 »
August 1974
St. Mungos, Magical Bugs Ward

He walked out of the room as the aristocratic lady he was left with to ask the diagnostic questions was vile.  The questions all were procedure to try to gather if a patient was exposed to something, understand their symptoms, and ask about family history.  The types of questions while the samples of saliva which already taken as the woman was slobbering worse than a great dane were examined.

It was a task he had zero worry of doing as he being a former bartender made him good at talking to people.  Or so he thought.  The complements and reassurances that were a mix of bedside manner he’d been taught at St. Mungos and tricks he learned to get extra tips as a bartender fell flat.  Even worse, the woman seemed to be more focused on criticizing him than answering the questions he’d asked.

This made him all the more certain this was some sort of test of would this get to him.  It wouldn’t.  He had kept his even tone with the woman and not even reacted when she said that she refused to be treated by a squib.  He wasn’t, but his parents and siblings had been thought they'd been out of the picture for years.  So this meant whomever the woman was likely recognized him from some family event when he was younger which was sub-optimal, but he kept his focus on his job not bothering to guess.

Regrettably, he suspected his mentor was listening outside which would make this all the worse.  A worse that became even worse as he felt drool start dripping from his own mouth as he talked after the woman told him to stop uselessly asking questions and do something about it.

The minute he felt the drool he quickly cast a bubble head charm on himself and walked out of the room closing the door.  Seeing Caroline he said “ I got the answers to the standard questions and nothing sticks out as her being exposed to something beyond someone poisoning her for her attitude.  Don’t worry, I’m pretty sure she just hexed me, but there’s a small chance she’s really contagious so I put a bubble head charm on just incase. “

He was happy to hear the word well in her description of how things were going.  While he didn’t believe in fairytales he’d love to be wrong on that account.  Though the word lessons made his breath catch slightly as she said it as he remembered his own.

He also remembered lessons were very much based on station in the Razi family the contrast between having squib parents and being the grandson of the Head of Family as a child meant he saw the range.  A range most didn’t see or understand as if more had perhaps the balance of the Razi family would have been better maintained.  Even if he thought that some of the lessons he received due to being at the lower ranks of the Razi family were cruel.

The catch were Eira said the lessons involved knowing which might be different from his experiences.

He said “ Are the lessons knowledge or training experiences? “

Then he realized how odd his words were so he said instead “ I’m not trying to learn the Zdravkova family secrets.  I could care less about there businesses.  However, my family had lessons too and I was in an odd spot where I got to see both ends of the gauntlet.  The lower end was unpleasant to the point of cruel.  In many ways the lower end was aimed at building someone who could be no better than a lackey if they were foolish to let those lessons put them in that place.  Which in my family it was oddly part of the test to not let someone place you in that position though they did take advantage of those weak enough of mind to be used as a lackey by saying how good they were at it. “

That probably made less sense.

He said “ I just want to make sure you’re ok.  With orphans like us people look at what’s most convenient for them and if a place opens up they’re happy to send you to it without caring sometimes if it is good or not for us. “

Low effort?

He shrugged and nodded when she mentioned he was good with the kids.  Oddly for being a youngest child he seemed to always end up taking care of the kids his age and younger growing up.

”… I’ll assume you’ve been cursed.”

With a smirk he said “ What’s your opinion on chocolates?  As those small gesture gifts are expected, and I’m not pulling off jewelry. “  Or more accurately he wasn’t pulling off jewelry for something he was faking as he had bills to pay.  He hadn’t really thought through all the angles, but he’d make it work as Cordelia was worth it.

He could only shake his head and chuckle at the idea of Aloïs getting hexed.  If it wasn’t Cordelia it would be another girl - or maybe even would have been him.

He laughed at Cordelia comparing Jasper to the boys in the books.  He said “ Both.  I bet if they wrote a romantic play it would be more flowery than an Anise Scrivner novel. “   As someone who'd seen a good number of theater plays the summer he was working odd jobs and cleaning he realized those two probably could write an over the top and good script.

This could work.

He had no idea how to pull off a dramatic fight, but that was a problem for another day.  A question for either MJ or Jasper who both could pull off theatrics.

He said “ I’m all in for dancing.  It is one of those things I’m oddly skilled at between more formal lessons as a kid and partying in clubs. “  It was probably his only viable thing as far as the theatrics of this all he knew how to do.  After all,

“Deal?”

He said “ Deal. “

Then he said “ So how you want to be asked out as you’re better than some lunchtime scheming arrangement?  If you can’t think of something I could ask Jasper for ideas as my usual techniques are too chill. “

“That actually means a lot.”

Even if his first thought when saying those words was the fact he had little intention of giving up his love of flirting, dancing and partying at the muggle clubs with some friends from his youth.  He did realize that he’d never really considered Cordelia a girl in that way and the words he said were the unadmitted reason why.  Though admittedly he didn’t really consider many girls that way a detail that was going to go unsaid, but he wasn’t typically protective of them which made the point stand again in his head.

With a smirk and a chuckle he said “ You know I’m not going back.  There will be no romantic me failing things and surprising you next term.  The best you’ll get is roses, probably floated towards you, at the station in Hogsmeade as I try to keep some of the kids from the Children’s Home from tormenting the kids who got to go to Hogwarts in embarrassing ways.  The little ones don't get how the ones at Hogwarts don't really want it known.  Then the squibs do and figure a bit of payback for something is in order.“  It was something the adults never thought of but he’d seen it enough he requested the day off work to go.  The mixture of excitement and disappointment for the kids left behind was a tough he’d never realized until he took Rae to catch the first year boats and had taken a group of them back to the Children’s Home by carriage.

Pulling him from his thoughts was mention of Aloïs.

He laughed as he said “ Nah, I’ve seen Aloïs manage to get girls wrapped around his finger acting like that.  Sets them up for any little attention given seems like more.  Plenty of guys take that less effort approach especially with the game of it all. “  Even though he knew the score with Aloïs, and knew at most it could have ever been was friends with fun benefits watching Aloïs wrap girls around his finger to use them had made him feel a a small tinge of jealousy and sadness.  Not that it mannered, especially now.

Cordelia was more important than a fling with a boy who didn’t care about him.

“You sure you’re ready for that level of scheming with me, Razi?”

He shrugged.  Was he ready?  He was ready enough as how hard could it be as he’d faked far larger things.  Like having parents for a year to all the adults in Hogwarts right after his parents dipped.

With a smirk he said “ I’m a Razi. “

If there was one thing he’d been raised to do since a young age it was scheme.

”You in?”

The only real relationship he’d been in was with Erin and he didn’t think any of that happened.  Well maybe as they’d been friends for years so that translated to both casual arguments and inside jokes.  He said “ I’m in.  Though I don’t got the first clue how to be as Romeo as Jasper.  I’m more of either pub chill guy or a going out dancing sort. “

He did love dancing.

Séance / Need a Light | Open

Mid-June
Outside Séance
Almost 1am in the Morning

He didn’t smoke.  However he needed an excuse to step outside so he conjured himself a cigarette and the illusion of smoke.  Breathing was a skill he had much like realizing that he was in over his head following an invitation to hang out at Séance from one fancy French Ministry guy a couple years his senior in the name of Aloïs Mallory.  He was a Razi so he understood the pureblood social scene from childhood events he’d attended, but until now he’d just been an observer not someone pulled in by a teasing smile and a promise of slipping off to the side for some fun.

He understood he was being tested to see if he could hang with the group of friends Aloïs had formed that were interested in the women on the dance floor which as the evening went on he realized held zero interest to Aloïs.  Though he realized that Aloïs would play at otherwise stringing along  a girl that was over the top flirting with him responding to even the slightest of smirks he made.  He knew there would be no slipping off with Aloïs for some fun after the group left.  Still he stayed a couple hours more as he wanted to prove to himself he could fit in with this group, as he spent his whole childhood with the entirety of the extended Razi family saying he wasn’t good enough.  Yet, even wanting to prove to himself he could manage to fit in wasn't enough to hold his interest in anything other than finding a good excuse to leave.

He faked breathing in his cigarette as he twiddled with wand in his hand adding to the conjuring the illusion of smoke coming out of his mouth as breathed out.  He let himself lean on the wall with a slight slouch outside Séance with a large yawn escaping his mouth.  A yawn that was a little louder than he’d of wanted and worse he noticed someone looking at him.  Out of routine he said “ Need a light? “

A statement he realized the stupidity of in the wizarding world considering they all had wands - or so he assumed.  Then he raised his fake conjured cigarette towards his mouth as he waited for the response to his statement.  The fact that smoking was tolerated inside, made him stepping outside to fake smoking even more ridiculous in his mind - but here he was.

Last Week of Summer
A Small Eatery
Brunch

Unlike some jobs St. Mungos was a place that was all hours, which meant he got shifts that were scattered about - though kindly with gaps long enough he could sleep.  Which combined with the fact he didn’t complain about later shifts meant he got more later shifts - nothing to him considering prior jobs he had were on third shift making second shift seem almost early.  Though what was originally planned to be lunch quickly change to brunch - he was thankful Eira accepted considering how short a time period she had before returning to the castle.

He wanted to check up on Eira.  Admittedly, he wanted to check up at the beginning of summer but that went so quick and with everything else he hadn’t gotten to.  After all, he wasn’t the type to believe in fairytales like long lost family finding and taking in a lost child and so forth.  Especially so late in the game as if a family thought they had a missing relative watching the first year rolls of Hogwarts, or the news articles on quidditch and dueling would have logically found Eira earlier.

In his opinion Eira was top notch, and any family that waited this long to find her was suspicious or incompetent.  Or she was hidden from them for a reason which made him more curious.  A curiosity that stopped quickly in his head due to the name of the family the Zdravkova family.  They were new to Britain, one of the newer criminal families entering Britain to fill the gap that the Razi family was leaving  in various criminal enterprises due to there instability and individualistic nature of many of his more esteemed relatives causing some of there businesses to be less profitable.  If Eira was hidden the distance disappeared, and if they were incompetent it would be better to pull someone like Eira into the family fold earlier as an ally.

The Zdravkova family was smart and maintained a reputability in Russia that they brought to Britain that made him not even want to mention some of their underpinnings.  What to say to Eira twisted in his head as he ordered food for himself and said he was paying offering Eira whatever she wanted on the brunch menu.

In the end once food was ordered and drinks arrived he cast an audible Imperterbable Charm as he looked around thankful they'd gotten a table a bit away from others.  Then he asked lightly " How are things going with the Zdravkova family?

It was still public so not everything could be said, but he knew how to listen for the clues of trouble from years of having witnessed or been in various troubling situations.

He appreciated Cordie disagreeing with his assessment of himself in the rankings of pureblood suitors.  He said “ It’s an irrelevant fact except to this conversation as I’m not playing that game myself. “  The catch was it was an important fact to this conversation as like any second-rate candidate he came with risks of association.  Though they were few as they were both young and he already was planning it would be his purposeful stupidity that ended this fake match.

“You’re suggesting we only pretend to date, right?”

He said “ Yes, just pretend.  You remind me too much of my sisters otherwise. “  A statement made purely as while he held some attraction to women he was much more interested in men and had a few things going at the moment.  Well a few things minus one as he’d have to cut off Aloïs Mallory from that list as he was too much of a risk in all this.  He was the only one in the wizarding world he hooked up with on any sort of regular basis since meeting him a few weeks ago.

“I love you as much as I can as a friend, Tigran, but I don’t know if I could kiss you without giggling.”

With a chuckle he said “ Then giggle.  Neither of us have a reputation for public displays of affection so we could avoid that for the most part.“

A lie as he was certainly prone to flirting and public displays of affection but those were all in the muggle world and muggle clubs that didn’t overlap with the people who were watching the game board for this game.  A world that had taught him to be discrete as snogging guys was much less accepted there than in the wizarding world.  Though even in the wizarding world it seemed most the guys he snogged were going to end up playing the game Cordie was in putting that to the shadows as well.

When Cordie mentioned Kate he realized there were a few people he’d have to tell as well.  He said “ Tell anyone you need.  I’ll have to tell a few people on my end like Jasper as last thing I need is him defending your honor when he notices a new hickey or mark as I often brew potions for the shop in my undershirt to not get my good clothes messy.  Don’t worry I’m good at covering them up otherwise, but have been getting lazy with it just being Jasper. “

Another lie as often especially as it got warmer he just brewed potions in shorts not caring what anyone thought - which would have to change.  This plan would mean he'd have to care again what people thought.

Then he said “ You might also want to give Aloïs Mallory, who I think works in the French office, some space as he’s a loose end I’ll have to deal with.  Don’t worry he was never going to be anything more than a fun hookup. “  Though that was a detail he probably should have mentioned to Cordelia a couple weeks ago when she was complaining about Aloïs's mixture of superiority and dismissive nature attitude wise.   A dismissive that he knew was purely due to Aloïs having zero interest in women.

“I want…”

He heard the hesitation in her voice and just proceeded to eat a bite of his lunch while words came to his friend.  He had a good idea of the board, but what Cordelia wanted was the direction the game she was being pulled into needed to go.

“I want to be an Auror,”

He hadn’t expected that.  Which was probably evident from the slight look of shock that crossed his face that he blinked away to a more neutral expression.  Growing up Aurors were boogymen that would arrest you and toss you in Azkaban.  Even the more reputable members of the Razi family if they understood the balance of the Razi family understood one had to manipulate those in the Ministry especially Aurors to maintain the balances of businesses the Razi family held.  Or perhaps they didn’t understand as was evident from three heads of the Razi family being murdered since the end of his fourth year.

Unsure he repeated back with some hesitation in his voice “ An Auror ehh. “  An Auror made the proposal he was about to make much more risky as these wouldn’t be the school yard hexes his cousins sent him for dating Erin Clarke purely due to her being a halfblood.  It was regrettable he wasn’t working in spell damage as he felt a lot of it would be potentially coming in his future if she accepted his proposal and he was still in the picture when that shift happened.

He said “ How about we just end this game with you pretending to date me until you find someone worthy without the distractions?  I’m not planning to date anyone publicly any time soon.  So as long as we don’t ruin me so bad I lose my job at St. Mungos in the breakup I’ll be good.  As with you going for the Ministry impressions manner so any breakup reason would have to be due to my stupidity which I can easily make happen.“

With a smirk he said “ I’m second-rate like the others, but your grandfather’s probably old enough if he hasn’t been keeping track of how many heads of the Razi family have been murdered since my grandfather Rupert’s death I could probably pass whatever criteria he’s using even with my parents having been squibs.  Worst case is if your grandfather has been keeping track my parents were gone before that and I spent the last few years in the custody of various Ministry Social Workers the last being Winchester giving a bit of distance from the Razi family in general. “

A distance from his extended family that he never thought he’d so blatantly be tossing out to use to his advantage.  However, his grandfather did always say that even the worst things sometime could work out to an advantage.
