Biography

Early Life - Hogwarts

The first son, and the second of three children, James carries the weight of his family’s name on his shoulders. He was born slightly ahead of schedule to Andrew and Emily Knight during a cold winter night. While there had been some complications with his birth, he made his entrance into the world with a giant fit of laughter. After all the crying had subsided, of course. Spoiler: There was a lot of it.

During adolescence the only real hardship that James had suffered was at the hands of his older sister Abigail. She had disliked her younger brother - as most firstborns do - but warmed to him slowly over the years while she still had a height and weight advantage. He prepaid her kindness eventually, but has largely blacked out the years she spent ‘torturing him’ or having him dolled up in dresses.

At around the age of ten, and his entrance into Hogwarts, the Knight’s welcomed another daughter into the world. At first he had found himself jealous lack of attention, but James soon found himself doting on the baby as much as the rest of his family during his time home from the Castle. He coddled her probably more than he should, but so did his father and older sister.

Then, near the end of the war, tragedy struck the Knight family. His father had been one of the men fighting on the frontlines, and his death hit his family hard. His mother seemed to have taken it the hardest and ended up being committed to St. Mungo’s after a breakdown had made relatives question her mental health. His sister - who was newly married - had offered to accept the younger siblings into her home, but in the end only the youngest had gone with her as James was taken in by his father’s brother.

As for James, he found himself lost. He spent almost a year in silence after losing his father (a man he viewed as his role model), and grieved for his mother as she continued to deteriorate in st. Mungo’s. He attended school as usual and was glad for the distraction it brought, and slowly recovered his heart as he threw himself into the thick of things. It was far from healthy, but it helped him cope and in time he was more than a shade of his former self.
