Daughter to Dmitri and Ella Galanis, Calypso grew up in the family’s manor, which is situated on the outskirts of Cambridge, and spent the majority of her childhood summers in Greece, visiting her father’s family. A quiet child, she struggled to make friends and spent a lot of time alone, exploring the grounds surrounding her home. Her hobbies included playing outdoors and reading, and she also loved animals, though she didn’t get her first real pet until the age of eleven.
Although she is an only child, Calypso’s paternal family is extensive. However, her father is the only member of his family who lives in England, as the rest of them live abroad in Greece. As a result, she doesn’t see them as often as she would like. Her mother has only one sister, who went missing in 1941 and is now presumed dead. Calypso is particularly close with her maternal grandparents, who do not live very far from her own home.
- Artemis - gifted to Calypso by her parents for getting accepted into Hogwarts, the grey tabby cat rarely leaves Gryffindor Tower. He can usually be found asleep in Calypso's sock drawer, and very rarely does anything except eat and sleep.
- Oddball - having raised the Jobberknoll from an egg in her first year of Care of Magical Creatures with Ignis Fides Rivers and Leander Laskos, Calypso is very attached to the little blue bird. The pair can frequently be found together, and OB's current home is in the Gryffindor girls' dorms.
- Slugcenzo - with the help of Tavish Cadwallader and Monroe Litchfield, Calypso has a successful slug farm up and running in Gryffindor Tower. Slugcenzo is her very first slug, birthed from Vincenzo Jonquil Kedding's own mouth, and he is the most majestic of them all.
Calypso attended a Muggle school in Cambridge until the age of eight. From the age of eight to eleven, she was home-schooled by her parents. 7
When she turned eleven years old, Calypso received her letter of acceptance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She has currently just finished her fifth year at the school, and is a well-rounded student. Her favourite subject is Care of Magical Creatures, and she also takes part in a number of extra-curricular activities. Having played Chaser for the Gryffindor Quidditch team since her first year, Calypso is the current Quidditch Captain for her house, alongside Sophie Ross. She also writes for the school newspaper, duels, and is a Senior Nurse in the hospital wing, though she’s not quite sure how she managed to achieve this status.
Calypso was not very popular in her first year. Her group of friends consisted of: Leander Laskos, Eleanor Nettleyew, Robert Oliveroot, and Oddball. Evidently, there is nothing of much import that happened, save for the fact that Oddball was born.
She still didn't have very many friends, but that was all about to change.
This is the fateful year that Calypso 'Clay' Galanis stumbled upon Lucille 'Hoppy' Hopland. The Hufflepuff tried to steal Oddball, and Calypso didn't take very kindly to that. They weren't exactly friends, but Lucille finally managed to persuade Calypso to become an acquaintance through methods that consisted of annoying the Gryffindor until she gave in.
The acquaintance blossomed into an unlikely friendship. And with this friendship came more new friends. Hoppy, although still annoying, becames more tolerable, and she brought with her Eugene Bryce and Jackson Ross, the latter of whom Calypso started dating during her fourth year, only for the relationship to come to a tragic end when he caught Calypso accidentally cheating on him.
Calypso's friendship with Eugene became stronger, but the same couldn't be said for her relationship with Hoppy. For a number of reasons, most of them involving Jackson Ross, Clay and Hoppy were no longer best friends by April 1944 (though Calypso's relations with Jacks improved significantly). Currently, Lulypso are not on speaking terms with each other, and this is Hopland's fault.
