Transfiguration Duelling Rules
General Rules

Your character may transfigure any object that is available in the dueling space, such as a wooden table, a large rock, your opponent’s robes, or a patch of the floor.  You may not transfigure yourself, your opponent, or your opponent’s wand, and you may not transfigure anything into a wand.  You may not transfigure any object into a living thing or an ally.

Preset Transfiguration spells have set effects. You can find them listed in the posts below (separated into Simple/Advanced/Difficult).

All Creative Use Transfiguration spells will use the basic command word, Commutati, followed by additional command words as detailed in the Magical Rules for Transfiguration. Alternatively, you may choose to use additional command words not found in the Magical Rules. In these instances, you will need to research the Latin translations for the words you wish to use and apply them accordingly. You will also need to include an OOC translation note at the bottom of your post. Please see here for an example of how to correctly post an original Transfiguration spell.

Creative Use Transfiguration
Rules For Requesting Effects

Each classification (Simple/Advanced/Difficult) has its own set of rules and permitted number of modifiers. Certain effects require a certain number of modifiers to perform.
  • Requests for ‘½ damage’, ‘½ health’, and ‘act twice’ cost 1 modifier. You may only request ‘act twice’ once per spell.
  • Requests for stat modifiers cost 1 modifier per stat, regardless of the number of points requested e.g. ‘+3 Ability’ = 1 modifier; ‘-4 Ability, -2 Resistance’ = 2 modifiers.
  • Requests for ‘damage’, ‘health’, ‘disarm’, ‘rearm’ and ‘affects all opponents’ cost 2 modifiers. ‘Disarm/rearm’ are automatically Instant Effect actions.
  • Requests for indirect and instant spells will not be allowed.
All spell effects will last until the end of the following round. Requests for a spell’s effects to last longer than 1 round cost 1 modifier per round.  Only stat modifier effects may last for longer than 1 round. No spell effects will last longer than 2 rounds after the spell is cast.

Please note that all requested effects for creative use spells must be logical and justified. Failure to justify requested effects or asking for requested effects that don’t make sense may result in the requested effects being denied. Please see below for examples of reasonable and justified requested effects.

Simple Transfiguration

Simple spells will not subtract anything from your Ability.
Simple Transfigurations may change only up to 2 properties on an object. These changes can only be coloration or shape.
You may request a maximum of 2 modifiers.
Stat modifier requests may be up to +/-1 point in any single stat, and the total number of points may not exceed +/-2.

e.g.
1) Vega attempted to cast, “Commutati pyramidatus,” at Jeremiah’s shoes, hoping to make them pointy and more uncomfortable [damage].

2) Vega tried her hand at, “Commutati rosaceus floridus,” aiming at Jeremiah’s robes. With any luck, the makeover would take him by surprise and give her more time to plan her next move [-1 Agility to Jeremiah, act twice to Vega].

3) Vega attempted to cast, “Commutati aurantium verticosus,” on her own robes, hoping that a fresh new look would revitalise her [health].

Advanced Transfiguration

Advanced spells will subtract 2 points from your Ability when rolling for success of the spell, and add 1 point to your Power when rolling damage.
Advanced Transfigurations may change only up to 3 properties on an object.  These changes can only be coloration, shape, size, and texture.
You may request a maximum of 3 modifiers.
Stat modifier requests may be up to +/-3 point in any single stat, and the total number of points may not exceed +/-4.

e.g.
1) Vega attempted to cast, “Commutati rhombosus scintillosus magnus*,” at some rocks on the ground, hoping that the others might be tricked into thinking they were diamonds and lose focus on the duel [-3 Ability to all opponents].
*Commutati rhombosus scintillosus magnus = diamond, sparkly, big

2) Vega pointed her wand at the crate that she was standing on. “Commutati procerus robustus.” If she was successful, she thought she would be more difficult to target and give her an advantage [+2 Agility, +1 Resistance, +1 Velocity].

3) “Commutati durus vitreus frigidus,” Vega tried to cast at the ground beneath Jeremiah’s feet, hoping that the icy effect would make him slip [-2 Power, damage].

Difficult Transfiguration

Difficult spells will subtract 4 points from your Ability when rolling for success of the spell, and add 2 points to your Power when rolling damage.
Difficult Transfigurations may change only up to 4 properties on an object.  These changes can only be coloration, shape, size, texture, taste/smell, and sound.
You may request a maximum of 3 modifiers.
Stat modifier requests may be up to +/-4 point in any single stat, and the total number of points may not exceed +/-6.

e.g.
1) Vega attempted to cast, “Commutati sonum tubam,” into the breeze, hoping that the soft wind would become trumpet-like and startle her opponents [-4 Resistance to all opponents].

2) “Commutati acutus angustus asper frigidus.” Vega aimed at the sleeve of Jeremiah’s wand arm, hoping that it would feel so uncomfortable, he would drop his wand [-4 Strength, disarm].

3) Into the air, Vega attempted, “Commutati crustulum pomum sirupus saccharum.” She was aiming to create the smell of a sweet dessert, in the hope that it would make her feel better [health, +4 Ability].
*Commutati crustulum pomum sirupus saccharum = cake, fruit, syrup, sugar; a sugary, sweet fruit cake
