Torrential Downpour, Heavy Winds

The setting for today's duel hadn't changed much from the first. Aubrey was too exhausted to change it up much. The mirage of the ocean, complete with waves crashing against the shoreline were still present. So were the beach chairs and a couple of umbrellas to give the image that they were at the beach. Mother nature apparently had an idea of how to make today's duel interesting though, with heavy rains and strong winds.

"The only thing I can say to you all today is, 'good luck.' You are all going to need it!" Aubrey blew a bodyguard whistle, signifying the start of the duel. She just hoped that this would go fast so she could get out of the rain

Round 1 of 5

Sylvianne Marceau - 85%

vs.

Nathaniel Ross - 60%
'Cause I am a CHAMPION and
LOUDER THAN A LION
You're gonna hear me roar

Sylvianne Marceau

    (04/25/2014 at 00:40)
As the rain beat down, Sylvianne clung tightly to her wand, lest the wind blow it out of her hand. Her hair hung down around her shoulders in the loosest, soggiest braid she ever wore. She was tempted to pull it out, but at this point it was too late.

On the dueling block, Sylvie was glad for the rain. The way the wind was blowing, the only thing keeping her skirt from flying up was how sodden she had become.

"The only thing I can say to you all today is, 'good luck.' You are all going to need it!"

As the duel began, Sylvie eyed her single opponent. She knew he was Nate Ross, despite not having had much contact with him. If he thought the fact that he was totally gorgeous was going to distract her, he was wrong, but only because Sylvie was already spoken for. Thinking about her last duel, Sylvie cast around her brain for a good spell to start off with. Finally, she found the perfect one. Go big or go home, she thought.

Smiling brightly at Nate, Sylvie raised her wand and attempted to cast "Levicorpus."

His hair was wet, almost as if he had just threw himself into the lake.

"The only thing I can say to you all today is, 'good luck.' You are all going to need it!"

"Whaaaaat?" He yelled back at the referee as he struggled with his jacket. The moment he pulled his hood up, the wind would blow it back again. When he finally gave up on fighting against the nature, Nate squinted his eyes as he tried to spot his opponent. Sylvianne? Maybe? He had seen her around the school, took a few classes with her though they were not terribly close.

Thankfully.

"Do we still duel when it's pou---" His question was cut short as he noticed the girl's wand toward him, "Wait, do we...it's pouring!" His voice was probably drowned in the rain and he wondered if they'd reschedule. However, when the girl still trained her wand on him, Nate lifted his wand at Sylvianne and attempted a silent Rictusempra.

It was the only spell he could think of at that time. He didn't really want to hurt her, did he?

He supposed that was a little too much to ask for.

It was Jackson who had raised the duelling banner for the Ross, all the other Ross had just been watching the boy duelled. Perhaps he was being a little too excited, or perhaps Nate couldn’t think properly when all he could see, hear, and smell was the rain.

And the rain. And the rain.

Nate watched as his spell fizzled into nothing at the same time as he felt a tug on his ankle, drawing him up like a flag. He held on to his wand, glad that he didn’t dropped it. It would have been disaster if he had. He would have been an easy target.

He tried to pull himself up to see his opponent, though in between fighting the rain and feeling the thumps of his heartbeat, Nate couldn’t move much. He lifted his wand, pointed to the general direction of where his opponent was standing, hoping that he’d hit the ground around her but not the girl. “Confringo!” He called out with his wand trained on the ground in front of her, with the expectation that he’d cause some damage (damage) and also distract her enough to let him plan his next move (act twice).

It worked! Sylvianne thought, surprised. The spell had much more difficult than many she had perviously cast. Smiling as Nathaniel was yanked into the air by his ankles, she couldn't help but turn her head slightly as she followed his upward and upside-down progress. Nope. Still gorgeous.

The rain continued to beat down and them, and Sylvie felt herself chill a little. It would have been fine if it weren't for the wind. Torrential downpour she could handle, but so much wind seemed unnecessary. And the mirage of ocean waves seemed more than a little out of place as she watch Nathaniel squirm to get a good view of her.

Unconsciously, she had lowered her wand slightly when Nate began to rise. Merlin's beard, I am distracted by his hotness. Raising her wand again, she screamed over the rain, "Obscuro!" as she attempted to blindfold Nathaniel. The rain was probably visually impairing enough, but the extra caution seemed prudent.

“Confringo!” With his wand still toward the ground in front of Sylvianne, Nate called out again, as soon as the last spell left his mouth, hoping for the same effect (damage and act twice). Nate wasn’t completely sure if he had successfully cast the last one he had tried. He felt his rowan wand shook as he pronounced the spell earlier, which according to Jackson, was a good sign. However, his vision was suddenly obscured by darkness.

This was the problem with duelling in the rain, he couldn’t hear which spell his opponent had just cast.

Was this blindfold physical? Nate lifted his hand and rubbed the area around his eyes. There was nothing he could pull or tug away to make his vision better, so he assumed that he couldn’t remove the blindfold.

He felt himself slipping downward. The blood rushed to his head and he could feel the force that had held his ankle in the air was starting to lose its grip.

“Creo…” He whispered, searching for the latin of the object he was picturing in his head. Pelvien? Pulvino?

“Creo pulvinus?” He said with his wand pointing to the ground under him, trying to gather the wind around them to form a pillow underneath him. He imagined a square plush pillow under him for him to regain his momentum (act twice) and hopefully break his fall when it happened (-2 damage from levicorpus fall)

Sylvianne had thought about dodging the debris from Nate's spell, but had failed miserably in the execution. It had happened so fast she barely realized what was happening until it had happened already. Nate had gotten the drop on her, and she was surprised.

But now the boy was blindfolded, so at least he wouldn't be able to see her all too well, which meant that his spells were unlikely to go off as he wanted. Soon, he would fall out of the air and it wouldn't be a particularly fun experience.

"Stupefy!" Sylvianne called, pointing her wand at Nate, attempting to stun him before his fall. She wasn't in opposition to Nathaniel the way she had been with Reagan and Eli, but she still wanted to win.

He’d think that it wouldn’t hurt that bad. After all, it was just sand. Sand and water to be precise.

“Ooph,” He grunted as he fell, trying to land smoother but the ground reached him sooner than he thought it would. Nate tried to get on his feet, but in his eagerness to do so, he found his feet battling to get a proper traction on the sand.

His wand

He turned his head to look, but at the same time did not want to lose sight of his opponent. She seemed untouched, not so surprisingly, as all he had been doing the whole time was being lifted by his ankle, failing on his spells, and then falling on the ground.

He reminded himself to applaud louder for Jackson next time.

There was only a certain number of spells someone could take before they started throwing anything they knew. The next one that surfaced in his head was the one he had joked about doing a lot (with Vi) to Vi, although he had never had the chance to do so.

Not that he would ever try to jinx his ex girlfriend with this one.

“Obliviate.” With his wand still pointed the the girl, he called out as he tried to stand up.

Watching as her opponent hit the ground, Sylvie winced, hoping it didn't hurt too bad, hearing his grunt. It was less satisfying to her than when she had sone the same thing to Reagan. She didn't hate Nathaniel the way she despised Reagan. Even so, she still had to beat the pants off of him.

Watching him scramble, Sylvie felt a little bad for what she was going to do.

Watching as Nate raised his own wand to her, she thought about what might hinder him the most, but not be too embarrassing for him.

Pointing her wand at Nate, she said, "Sorry. Densaugeo!" as she attempted to make his teeth grow, hoping it might hinder him. Lowering her wand at his feet she called out, "Vineyard!" attempting to get his legs caught up in vines.

Sylvianne Marceau

    (04/29/2014 at 01:37)
The spell hit Sylvianne and for a moment, she staggered. Closing her eyes and shaking her head, she took a deep breath.

When she opened her eyes, she saw the wand in her hand, still pointed at Nate. "Eek!" she squealed, letting her wand fall to the ground, the wind blowing it toward her opponent. Seeing Nate's wand pointed at her as he tried to stand, she looked around for something to hide behind. She felt scared, not knowing why she was there or what she was doing. There was no where to go.

Drawing her shoulders in, as though to make a smaller target of herself, she felt anxious. "D-d-don't," she stuttered in a high-pitched voice. "W-whatever I d-did, I'm s-sorry!"

Squatting low, Sylvie balanced on the pads of her feet as she drew her knees to her chest, curling into a ball and covering her head with her arms.

"No, no, no!" He lifted his hands, arms in the air as he saw the girl. Walking toward her, he picked up her wand where she had dropped it.

"Sorry," He apologised, though not entirely sure if he should have. After all, they were still in the middle of the duel, weren't they? Should they stop? Should he stop? Sure he had a couple of scrapes on his elbow and ankle but he was mostly fine. But she didn't look too good.

Nate leaned down and walked toward her slowly while braving the weather, "You ok?" He considered offering her wand back, but wasn't sure if that would be a safe move, "I think we should stop." He looked at the referee, "Shouldn't we?"
