Clear & Cold

Charlie was pretty certain he didn’t want to have a boring, old regular Quidditch match. What was the fun in that, after all? And so, with the snow that was in mountains all around them, Charlie had constructed seven snowmen.

The snowmen reached a few feet taller than Charlie himself, and here simply stationed all around the pitch.

Though, if anyone knew Charlie, these would be no ordinary snowmen. Charlie swarmed the pitch, making sure all was in order before he swooped down and landed just in the middle of the pitch, where a large, closed box stood stationary.

“I want a nice, clean match everyone.” He smirked a bit, recalling how many of his matches would be considered ‘clean’. “No bad moves, this is all for fun.” He flicked the latch and the Quaffle sprung up, followed swiftly by Bludger Bread and Coal. “Now get to it!”

Horntail Chaser

This time, the ball wasn't going to blow up anymore. However, there were two other big black balls that she needed to avoid. And one small golden ball that was ... someone else's worry. Fair enough. The brunette was on the broom, ready to take off when she noticed the snowy figures on the pitch. What the heck were those for? Naomi looked suspiciously at them before looking at their referee. If those things would cause her to get injured, this Kedding character was getting sued. Period.

Nice, clean match ... Right. "Is that what the brooms are for? I thought they were for flying." The brunette retaliated, but the referee probably wasn't even paying attention. The game was about to start anyway, so she grabbed hold of her broom with her gloves and got ready to go for that red ball they called 'quaffle'.

The red ball did show up ... But so did the two black ones. Naomi waited an extra second to clear those things before shooting forward towards the red ball. It seemed she had been faster than everyone else because her outstretched right hand grabbed hold of the quaffle. Without further ado, she tucked the ball away and carried on her flight towards the opposing end ... Towards those weird hoop things.

Brits and their strange games. Why hoops and why three? Wasn't one enough trouble to guard?

Ridgeback Chaser

“I want a nice, clean match everyone.”

Calypso snorted. Right. Because that was going to happen. A vision flashed through her mind: yellow-clad players, riding none other than a choice selection of vacuum cleaners. The memory brought a smirk to her face as she waited for the game to begin.

A moment later, it did. The eleven year old wasted no time in kicking up off the ground, yanking her broom sharply upwards as the balls were released into the air. Unfortunately, somebody else was quicker. She didn't recognise the older girl, but whoever she was, she hadn't wasted any time in snapping up the Quaffle.

Calypso's gaze narrowed slightly in concentration. There was really only one thing to do. Twisting to the side, she took off in the same direction as the other Chaser (Naomi), flying low on her broom. She just needed to reach the girl before she managed to shoot. Hopefully, the other Ridgeback Chasers were following the same line of thought.

Horntail Benches

The first game of the summer and she was stuck on the benches....just great.

Payton moped, leaning against the handle of her broom and watching Charlie start the match with a small sigh in her throat. She wanted to play, wanted to be out there up in the air and free like she always felt on a broom.

Everything was more real with her feet on the ground.

At any rate, she supposed, knowing Charlie (though she didn't know him well) that there would be some sort of entertainment. Most likely, that would be provided through the snowmen surrounding the pitch. But Payton had lost her brooding demeanor as the game began and her team got first possession.

She didn't really know Naomi, but the girl had instantly raised in the young Ravenclaw's books by getting her hands on the Quaffle before any interfering Ridgebacks had a chance to come close.

And now the girl was speeding towards the hoops.

"Go Naomi!" She called, wanting to jump out of her seat but she stayed still. She was only just starting to gain confidence on the ground...there was a reason she liked to spend most of her time in the air.

As soon as the large blonde boy allowed the game to begin, Anastasia headed towards the bludgers with her bat in hand. It was her job to protect her team from them as well as injure the opposing team. It sounded like a lot of fun and she couldn't wait to really get into it.

Though, she was rather curious as to what the snowmen were. She would do her best to avoid them. She had a nasty feeling they would come to life or maybe even throw things at them which would be completely distracting and rather dangerous and if she got injured, she was pretty sure her parents would be notified which would be a nightmare.

She was never ever allowed to fly at home, let alone take part in Quidditch. This was because she was a girl and girl's weren't supposed to play sports and get muddy. However, Anastasia never listened. She would borrow her brother's broom and sneak away because dolls and tea parties were for losers.

Unfortunately for her team, a Horntail chaser managed to grab the quaffle first. This means they had the potential of scoring and she couldn't let that happen so she continued to zoom towards a bludger that seemed to be heading for her own team's chaser.

Anastasia raised the bat in her left hand and hit the bludger Coal hard towards Naomi and watched with wide eyes in the hopes it would hit her hard enough to at least drop the quaffle.

Horntail Keeper

Captain

He was the perfect player to be put in the position of Keeper. Keeper's were usually well built and athletic in order to withstand the heavier weight of wearing a helmet and extra padding. He would have no problems maneuvering around the golden hoops in the constricting attire, his only worry was been chosen Captain for the first time.

Been captain of a team was an important role to play. Yes this was only a small friendly match at summer camp, nothing to get overly competitive about right?... Wrong!

Even though this may not have been as important as a professional match or even winning for the glory of one if the four hogwarts houses, it didn't mean Diego wanted to loose [or his other team mates]. No one ever enjoyed loosing, and it was on his shoulders to lead the Horntails to glory.

Pulling up his shin pads he tucked his helmet under his left arm, and reached for his broom with the other.

"I know some of you are not well aqquianted with one and other, but today that doesn't matter... I want us to work together as a team and win this thing!" He took a deep breath to steady his nerves and continued. "It is a friendly so have fun." Diego shrugged his arm a little "But... that doesn't mean to say should just hand them the quaffle on a golden plater and make it easy for them! Let's kick some Ridgeback ass yeah?!

He didn't wait for an answer. Diego tucked the broom between his legs and pulled on his helmet before firing off across the pitch to take his place in front of the golden hoops. He had never been the one for big speeches, short and sweet that was for the best. His eyes lingered on the pitch as the other players took there starting position.

“Now get to it!”

The balls were realesed from the stationary box down below and almost immediately the older female chaser was on it. At least his short speech hadn't fell on deaf ears. He smirked and weaved around the hoops the whole time watching his fellow teammates with a careful eye

"Naomi look out!"

Diego watched helplessly as the opposing beater raised her bat and sent the bludger [coal] whizzing quickly in the girls direction.

Denise OSullivan

    (12/07/2013 at 19:54)
Ridgeback Keeper

She was captain. She was... captain. Denise did not even bother to hide her pride. She had never been the leader of anything and had never really been put in a position of power before. This was a first and Denise was absolutely loving it.

"Play well guys!" she said to her teammates before they all took off into the sky. She wasn't really familiar with the speeches captains gave before a match because she had never been on the house team, she had only played in the Summer. She just hoped that her team were motivated enough to be able to figure out what to do without her telling them first.

She wasn't one for screaming across the pitch.

The seventeen year old girl flew upwards until she was placed right in front of the three hoops. Her light brown eyes peered out into the cold air, waiting for a Horntail Chaser to be daring enough to try and confront her. She knew that her reflexes were pretty quick in general but as she hadn't played Quidditch in a while she was unsure of her current ability. She didn't want to embarrass herself in front o her team mates.

She saw in the distance a girl heading towards her with the Quaffle in her hands and Denise prepared herself for having to swerve dramatically to the left or right. "Yes Borovsky!" she shouted but not nearly loud enough for the girl to hear. She wasn't used to calling people by their last names but it seemed a very Quidditch Captain thing to do.

"Keep going guys!" she cried out, slightly louder while preparing herself for battle with the girl heading towards her.

Merlin, this was rough. She just hoped her make up didn't smudge.

Percy Marlowe

    (12/07/2013 at 23:35)
Horntail Chaser

Percy couldn't remember what he was supposed to be doing. It was the first time he was playing Quidditch, after all; he'd sat on brooms before, tossed a couple of quaffles with his older cousins, but he'd never been in a proper game. Percy grinned wildly. Even if he couldn't remember what he was doing it was going to be wicked fun f-u-n.

Robbie cowered in his pocket. Perhaps he really should have left Robbie on the ground.

Percy pulled the broom around, testing out how it worked - he didn't even know what sort of broom it was, but as long as it flew he supposed it'd be all right. Enthusiastically, he turned to the left, shooting faster than he'd meant to and almost crashing into someone else. Instead of saying sorry, like anyone else would have done, Percy grinned at the person and screamed 'WHOOOOO'.

It was fun. Being on a broom was fun. Being in the air was fun, as long as he didn't look down. The only not-fun part about this was that he didn't have his sword, because you couldn't catch things with your sword.

There it was, the Quaffle k-w-a-f-f-e-l, and it was being held by a girl Percy didn't know but thought looked familiar and if they looked familiar they had to be on his team, right?  So he waved at Naomi frantically. "HI, OVER HERE," he shouted, wondering if she'd bother passing to a first year with no experience at all.

It had taken long enough. Finally. He had played for two years, though not all that much. Constant practices, constant games on the bench, with a few minutes on the pitch. He had been hit by bludgers, gotten hit. Lots of unpleasant things, and all playing a position that he wasn't particularly fond of.

Now he was starting. Now he was playing seeker.

One Hundred and Fifty points was worth it. Though he figured a chaser could score that many in a game, it was often not that many. And all it took was for one person to wrap their hands around a small, golden ball. One person. And for this game, that one person would be him.

He clenched his broom tightly. It was cold. He would have to grab the snitch as soon as possible. The ref didn't say anything important, and the game started.

Aethelstan started to look for th-

Suddenly, some idiot screamed right towards him, causing the young Seeker to swerve out of the way. He glared daggers at the offender. It was that stupid, stupid boy. He screamed a loud 'Woo' as he sped off. Aethelstan just shook his head, and gave a sigh. Whoever had decided to put him on a broom should have their head checked.

Getting back to business, Aethelstan rose in the air, shivering in the cold, seeking out the Snitch.

Zoey was excited; she had never played Quidditch before. Well, if you asked her she would say she had - she had snagged her fathers broom to ride and had played a couple of games with some other kids, but nothing was ever really that organized. In fact, although the girl would never outwardly admit it, Zoey wasn't a great flyer. She was OK, but not great. The only time she got to ride was when she did manage to seal her father's broom, because otherwise her parents thought she would get into too much trouble.

But a new broom happened to be one of the things that her parents had bought her before school. Brand new, and not a cheap one either! The girl didn't dare say more about it than 'thank you' and let the curiosity about the cost and why they would spend so much money simply lay quietly.

Her parents always got bent out of shape when she asked about money.

And now she was here, having signed on to be a Chaser on the summer camp Quidditch team. She was too excited to be nervous, and only hoped that the fact she was bundled up in warm clothing wouldn't affect how she flew (although if it ended up bad, this is what she would blame). She ignored the snowmen on the field, and the fact that they seemed very out of place. Perhaps it was just something to get them in the winter spirit? But Zoey had to focus, no time for curiosity.

The balls were released, and Zoey watched the quaffle soar up into the air, and right into the outstretched arms of an opposing team member. The girl frowned, turning on her broom to chase after Naomi toward her team's side of the field.

Then she saw something swerve out of the corner of her eye. Aethelstan had  only just dodged him, and Zoey wished she hadn't been so close too. Twitching her grip, she pulled her broom to the left, narrowly avoiding Percy. Phew, that was close!

"Percy watch it!" she called back, scolding the boy. Although she supposed pretty much anything that went was fair. But he didn't seem to know right from wrong so maybe she could influence that in her favor. "You're not supposed to hit us with your broom! Once you're in our zone, if you don't have the Quaffle, you're supposed to help our keeper block"

She had no clue if he knew the details of Quidditch, nor did she really care. Even if her comment confused him for a moment it would give her enough time to get past him. The last thing she needed was for Percy to knock her off her broom within the first five minutes, even by accident.

Especially when slowly, she didn't know how, but she was gaining. If she reached out in front of her she could almost.... yes, she could! She could touch the end of the other girl's broom. So that was exactly what she did. Zoey reached out and grabbed the tail end of Naomi's broom, hoping to slow her or catch her off balance. Maybe it would be enough for her to drop the quaffle, or for one of her team mates to steal it.

Cheap shot? How was she to know? She'd never played before!

"GO LUCY!"

He was waving a blue flag, a little one he'd fashioned out of a scrap from the craft hut and a stick from the forest floor.  It was all terribly exciting.  He remembered (so vaguely now, the memories jumbling into barely a glimmer) that his father once took him to see a rugby game and they'd cheered and shouted and enjoyed themselves immensely....

But even the strongest rugby player couldn't fly.

And Arthur had flown, all on his own, good enough to even be in the game if the captains ever called him.  He'd been frightened at first.  It didn't feel natural, like his feet ought to feel the pitch underneath them, but then climbed.... higher and higher and higher still until everyone looked like little ants on the ground.  And oh, hadn't it been frigid, but glorious... so wonderfully glorious.

And then he'd tumbled off into a tree and had to be sent to the infirmary for some nasty scratches, but there was nothing that would keep him off the ground now.

"GO CALYPSO! GO DENISE! GO ZOEY!"

(What was the name of the girl with the dark eyebrows? Anna... Annast....)

"GO ANNIE-STASHA!"

He cheered and he waved and he jumped and he only briefly wondered why they were being guarded by big old snowmen.

Percy Marlowe

    (12/08/2013 at 01:59)
Horntail Chaser

"HI STAN," Percy shouted excitedly at that boy from the forest. He had a weird name and it was far easier to call him Stan, because Stan was a proper name and it didn't start with an A and an E. Who put an A and an E together in one word? He couldn't think of a single word with ae except for Stan's weird name. Perhaps Gaz would know.

But Gaz wasn't here because he hated Quidditch and Dueling and sometimes Percy wondered why they were twins. He'd thought that twins were supposed to have that sort of connection thing, c-o-n-n-e-c-s-h-u-n and that they were supposed to like doing the same things and all. Bad Gaz.

He'd swung straight into the path of Zoey and he waved at her cheekily. "HI ZOEY." He was having far too much fun on this broom. No one should ever give him a broom. Far too excitable for one.

"You're not supposed to hit us with your broom! Once you're in our zone, if you don't have the Quaffle, you're supposed to help our keeper block"

He frowned at Zoey. Somehow he didn't think that that was right, because they were on different teams, and teams were supposed to help each other and not the other team, right? He was supposed to help that girl with the Quaffle right now, or something like that. "I don't think that's right," he shouted at Zoey, wondering if she really believed it. If she did he'd have to teach her.

Then she went and grabbed the other girl's broom and Percy didn't think you were supposed to do that either. "HEY," he yelled, swinging his broom towards Zoey and the other girl (Naomi) and trying to push Zoey off the back tail. "You aren't supposed to do that!"

At least he thought she wasn't. He didn't know what was going on anymore. And this was exactly how he liked it.

Horntail Co-Captain [Beater]

Captain. That was something Lilith could get behind.

Lilith breathed into her hands, creating friction between her palms in order to develop some warmth in the frost stricken air outside.

Her thick wool scarf wrapped around her neck five times; she tucked the end of the scarf in tightly so no one would be able to pull on it or even attempt a foul move with her. Her gaze traveled towards her co-captain who had decided it upon himself to begin an entire lecture before the game commenced.

After the man had stopped lecturing the team and flew off, Lilith glanced around at her teammates and brought her wand to her side. "Do whatever you think is necessary. Don't act purposely irrational or I will curse you the moment you do, in field or not. Let's go!"

Swiftly mounting her broom, bat in her left hand, Lilith rose into the air and onto the playing field. Flying into the beater's position, she calmly waited for the game to begin.

“Now get to it!”

Lilith shot out of her stagnant position and sped towards the nearest Bludger she could spot. Swinging her bat back with force, Lilith knocked Bludger Coal away from Naomi and towards the oppositing team's chaser co-captain [Freya].

Turning back, Lilith glared daggers into the girl who had decided it wise to grab onto another player's broom. If she could truly feel annoyance for anything or anyone, Lilith would feel it for that girl, immensely.

However, Lilith took a deep breath and calmed herself before shouting at the top of her lungs, "Kedding, you better call a foul on that ridgeback chaser shaking my chaser's broom!"

Lilith contemplated on whether or not the opposing team was already this desperate or just highly unintelligent.

Glancing in one of the younger chaser's direction, Lilith sighed and shouted towards him [Percy], "Be ready to catch that quaffle, Marlowe!"

One diminutive chaser on her tail, but she wasn't going to be bothered by that. As long as she wasn't attempting to get the red ball, that was fine with Naomi. There was some yelling going on ... did someone say 'Look out'? Look out for what? She looked over her shoulder, in time to spot one of those black balls heading for her. However, one of her teammates dispatched that quickly, the black ball went off towards another player. "Thank you!"

With that done, the American carried on towards the hoop-things. Someone was shouting to the side ... Oh, it was one of her teammates wanting the red ball. Did he have a better chance to score? Hm ... But before she could make up her mind, Naomi felt a tug at her broom, while barely holding on to the quaffle. A quick look over her shoulder spotted the intruder. The brunette hadn't read all that much about Quidditch, but she had definitely read about the fouls. This was definitely one of those. And she even knew its' name.

Hence why she called out to the young man that was supposedly the referee, gesturing towards Zoey. "Hey ref, foul! That's Blagging. That's not allowed!" If one wanted to become a lawyer, one had to know the name of the infractions. Obviously. She had to be prepared. At the same time, Naomi attempted to forcefully swing the tail out of the other girl's grip and get free. The hoop-things were just ahead of her and she was getting ready to shoot.

"FOUL!"

Payton didn't bother keeping her seat, she surged to her feet, fist raised angrily though it wasn't very impressive given her petite stature. But she couldn't help the anger that had caused her to shout out in the first place!

Freaking cheating Ridgebacks!

Even though it was only a summer game, Payton was outraged. Maybe the girl was new or maybe not, either way you shouldn't sign up for a game when you haven't even looked at the rule book!

She looked over at Charlie with wide blue eyes and willed him to call out the girl hindering Naomi's progress with her obvious cheating. There was really little she could do (other than shout verbal protests) from her position on the benches but really, there should be some repercussions!

At least their co-captain had noticed.

Payton closed her fingers into a tight fist and sat, her lips pressing together in disapproval. She wanted desperately to be in the air but she'd wait her turn...as patiently as she could.

Ridgeback Chaser | Co Captain

Fryea blew hot air into her hands before clutching the broom handle and kicking off into position. She had always been a good flyer, she had been on the Quodpot team at Salem but Freya had never played Quidditch. It couldn't have been much different, other than instead of the pots placed either end of the pitch, there now stood three golden hoops. And they had made her co-captain.

The balls were released and the game bagan. Leave it to her Quodpot rival from Salem to be first on it, herself and Naomi had never spoke other than slinging the odd lighthearted insult across the pitch back in America. Her sister on the other hand was more "sociable".

Forcing herself forward she flew in Naomi's direction playing little attention to anything taking place around her, her mind set only on obtaining the leather ball she possessed. From no where, the bludger [coal] clipped the back of her broom, sending the broom in circles and throwing her from her seat on top of it. Her fingers clung to the handle as she heaved herself back on top of the wooden frame.

Her eyes found the girl that had sent it her way, Freya gave her a look that could kill before flicking her long blonde hair and flying off quickly. A quick lap around the pitch to check any damage and she was back perusing the fellow Salemite [Naomi].

Her eyes narrowed on the younger girl on her team, a fellow chaser grappling the back of Naomi's broom. The girl was a first year no less, and obviously had no idea of the rules.

"No! You... Zoey! Let go of her broom." she slapped her hand up to her forehead and sighed.

Anastasia groaned whilst flying on her broom due to the fact Naomi managed to dodge her bludger. An older boy had warned her, and Anastasia stuck her tongue out to him as she flew past.

He would have been her next target, however everybody had begun shouting and making a fuss. Anastasia had no idea why and was very confused, so she decided to fly closer to the situation to see what was going on. Once she did, she saw a couple of very angry Horntails and a very foolish Ridgeback hanging onto a broom of the opposing team.

That was obviously a foul, making Stassie very irritated. Zoey could get them disqualified! She would have to have words with the girl after the game, maybe teach her a thing or two about Quidditch so she would be prepared for the next game.

Looking away from the small group of people, Anastasia spotted a seemingly eager Aethelstan searching for the snitch. She raised a brow before a small smirk tugged at the left corner of her plump lips. A goal her team could defend, but if he caught the snitch the game would be over. She knew what she had to do.

Turning away, Anastasia gripped her bat tightly in her hand as she flew towards the bludger Bread. Once she was close enough, she raised her bat high and hit the bludger as hard as she could in Aethelstan's direction, watching it fly violently towards him.

She could only hope he was too distracted to see it coming, especially as the other team members were busy bickering over a foul.

Clean match? This was the exact opposite of a clean match. Calypso had no idea what was happening anymore. One moment she'd been tailing Naomi, the sky had been clear of intruding players, and she'd been feeling fairly confident that she could catch up to the girl. The next moment, all hell had broken loose.

"Zoey!" At least she thought that was what her fellow Chaser's name was. "What are you doing?! That's against the rules!" Calypso growled in frustration, yanking her broom upwards slightly to pull back away from the commotion. She didn't want to be caught up in any part of the scuffle that was now taking place. Her place in the match might depend on it, and she wasn't willing to give that up.

Rolling her eyes, the small girl swerved away from the ensuing tussle, choosing instead to hover above the action. It was far easier to see what was going on from here, and at least this way Kedding would be able to see she'd had nothing to do with it. Let the captains deal with Zoey breaking the rules.

She just needed to keep her eye on the ball.

Horntail Co-Captain [Beater]

Shooting a look towards the referee, Lilith shot away from the commotion and towards the center of the field, watching the bludgers with an intent eye and a focused mind. Her heart beat slower than when she proceeded with one of her thrill seeking adventures, Lilith felt a calmness envelope her.

In her content state of mind, Lilith suddenly became unusually tense. She breathed in and observed the field in more detail. Seven snowmen centered around the pitch, nearly eight foot tall, all stared back at her with charcoal eyes and sickly thin stick arms.

Strange. Lilith shot another glance towards the referee before shooting across the field. She couldn't let details get to her, not yet.

Darting towards her targeted teammate, Lilith hit Bludger Bread away from Aethelstan and towards the continuously pursuing chaser, Freya. Lilith hit the Bludger with such strength that she felt the vibration of the collision travel down towards the base where she held the bat tightly.

She couldn't aim for the other uneducated chaser yet, as she was too close to Lilith's own teammate. She couldn't risk hitting a teammate in possession of the quaffle, let alone actually bodily harming her.

Dodging the traffic of campers who flew towards the obvious foul that was happening across the field, Lilith continuously glanced up towards the referee and down towards the snowmen, obviously put off by the strangeness below that no one but her had seemed to notice. Shaking her head free of the thoughts that had continued to peck at the surface of her brain, Lilith hovered and watched the game commence in a chaotic state.

Clearing her throat, Lilith then raced towards the wandering Bludger Coal and batted it across the field towards the hovering chaser, Calypso. It was better to kill two birds with one stone than wait for a Ridgeback chaser to stop Blaggering.

Lilith cast another suspicion glance towards the snowmen below.

Her move had caused an uproar, from both teams, an Percy's push caused her grip to slip and let Naomi free. She settled back onto her own broom and she could hear shouts from her team and the opposing.

"I'm sorry! I didn't know!" she shouted at the girl with the ball. Well, maybe she did - she assumed, but how was she supposed to actually know until she tried? People bumped into each other, rammed other players, and hit bludgers which could give them concussions! But trying to unbalance another player by shaking their broom was a big no, no. Apparently. Well, she wouldn't make that mistake twice.

Naomi had continued to race down the pitch with the quaffle in her possession, and Zoey did all she could to chase after her. They were getting close to their hoops now and Zoey shot her Captain and Co-Captain an apologetic look, raising a hand in a gesture to say 'I know, I won't happen again'.
