Astro hadn't wanted to go home. She didn't want to see her parents or her siblings or her home, knowing she could never really go back. Not after what she'd done. They'd never forgive her.

But she'd heard mention of Artie's trial and how everyone seemed to expect her to go to rot in Azkaban for the rest of her life and if that was true, Astro needed to see her. Her face, when she realized what Astro was doing, couldn't be the last thing that she saw of her sister. She needed to fix this. She had to, after what she had done to Artie.

She floated through the wall into Artie's room because she didn't want to see her parents. She wasn't ready for that. She paused a moment, watching Artie with her head in her hands, biting her lip.

She couldn't do this. She couldn't do this. She couldn't do this.

But she had to. She'd never forgive herself if she didn't.

"Artie?" she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Are you mad at me?"

It was apparently not as many times as she liked because after he sang it the second time, he put the guitar back in the case. But that was okay, since he was holding her hands and looking into her eyes and making her heart go all fluttery.

"I love you."

For a second, she was sure her heart had exploded and she had died and gone into the afterlife. But Ren was still there, holding her hands, so that couldn't be true.

"I love you too." She kissed him. "Happy birthday, Ren."

There was a chance that Odi would say no. They'd had similar conversations before and Astro had never been entirely sure that she was down with the idea, even though it didn't really mean anything at all. It was just for the experiment and for fun and that sort of thing.

But she said yes and then came and sat next to her and all of a sudden, Astro was nervous. Sure, she'd kissed Bea that one time, but that was different and Bea had hated her for a long time after that and was only starting to come around now. But Odi was going into this willingly and would probably kiss back and it felt all different.

Not wanting to think about it too much, Astro leaned in and kissed Odi.

It wasn't like kissing Ren, but she was in love with Ren and not with Odi, so that was probably why. But it was still really, really good.

"Thanks," she said, smiling, when they finally pulled back.

She smiled the whole time he was singing. It was a good song, one she'd heard once or twice. It sounded different when Ren sang it though. It sounded more special.

"You're incredible," she said, once the song had finished. She leaned in to kiss him, careful not to bump his fancy, new guitar.

"Play it again? Please?"

She opened the case, her eyes going wide and grinning wildly as she took in the sight of the fancy new, electric guitar.

"This is so cool!" she said, running her finger down the strings. She pulled it from the case carefully, holding it out to him. "Play it!!"

Astro was paging through a magazine when she heard her favourite person calling her name. She looked up, her eyes wide. She wasn't sure she'd ever seen Ren so excited before.

"What is it?!" she said, her excitement rising to match his. "Happy birthday, by the way." She would have kissed his cheek but he was moving so much that she was scared that one of them would end up with a broken nose.

Sandy was looking in his bedside table for underwear which was weird, but then again, what did she know about boys? It would make sense if he slept without underpants and then needed them quickly in the morning.

She pulled open a few drawers, starting at the bottom. "Nothing yet. Just some shirts."

"What if he doesn't wear undies at all?"

Astro looked up at him, horrified. "Then there is something wrong with him and someone needs to give him a talk. Not wearing underwear is so gross."

Not to mention the fact that it would totally ruin their prank.

"Jackpot!" she announced, as she pulled open the next draw and found his underwear nearly folded inside. She laughed. "It looks like he irons them. What pair should we take?"

She waited for his response before grabbing them head moving towards the door. "Come on, let's get out of here before he gets back because no way he's leaving it open that long with us hooligans running around."

"There are bands that do that, right? Or whatever you call a band with two people. I think I've heard a few."

She liked the idea of it and they seemed to do well with just the two of them. It might be tricky to figure out for instruments, but she was sure they could manage.

"The Awesome Band," she said quickly, grinning at him. It was a joke, of course. That would be a terrible name for a band. "I don't know. I haven't really thought about band names, to be honest." She should have, perhaps, but she'd always been distracted by the actual music and the getting new members part. "Do you have any ideas?"

Odi didn't seem totally against the idea, though she wasn't exactly all in for it. Darn people who just kind of hovered in the middle of things. Astro was more the type for clear, easy answers. She didn't like all this in-between stuff.

"That's what I was thinking. It's just like, an experiment for class or something, but more real life than school." Or maybe it wasn't, but it seemed safer to think about it like that.

She wasn't sure what to make of the cat comment or why cats were coming up at all. "So..." She liked Odi, but dang, was the girl hard to read sometimes. "Will you snog me for the experiment or not?"

« on: 12/28/2019 at 20:13 »
To be completely honest, Astro hadn't been expecting Bea to go along with it. She figured she'd get the dress thrown back in her face or something like that. And she probably would have deserved it too, given how the two girls tended to get on.

But she didn't. Bea went in and changed and Astro was almost bouncing with excitement at the thought of how pretty Bea was going to look. This was most definitely going to be one of those defining moments for the Ravenclaw girl, like in the muggle movies or the romance stories, right before the boy notices the girl and they fall madly in love and kiss in the rain.

She came out a few minutes later and Astro's eyes lit up.

"You look amazing!" she exclaimed, grinning. "You look hot, but you're not used to looking hot so that's why you feel ridiculous. But I promise you're not!" She looked over the other girl. "All you need now is some shoes to match and maybe do something simple with your hair and you'll be ready!"

Camp was exhausting. There were just so many things to get done and people to see and hair to be braided. So by the time day seven of camp had rolled around, Astro had desperately needed a nap.

(It probably didn't help that she hadn't gone to bed until three because she was too busy talking to people. But that wasn't an important detail.)

Refreshed, she'd headed out of her cabin, figuring it time to get some food and maybe go hunt down Ren or Jane or someone. But as she stepped out, something flew into her face, causing her to choke. God, what was that? It was awful.

She went to wipe it off her face, but slowed when she felt bumps forming on her skin. Her expression turned horrified and she let out a scream as she looked down at her hands and arms.

Wildly, she looked around, trying to see if anyone could help. But the only person she saw was Clara Darcy. And all of a sudden, she knew what happened.

"I'm gonna kill you, Darcy!" she yelled. "What the hell did you do to me?!"

.............CONDUCTOR MARTY AS IN LLEWELLYN AND FRIENDS?

Hopping on this if B is right, HI YOU FOUND US (or some of us anyway). (This is Lia/Emery/etc.)

If he's wrong, hi! I have never met a Brit guy who isn't into trains, so thank you for keeping this belief true.

I have Elias who is the same age as Arlo and can always use more friends. I've also got Astro who is in third year and have a prof starting up this year, and all three are always down for threads!

Isn't the Book Thief good?? I highly recommend checking out the audiobook as well. They did such a great job of it.

For books recs:
  • Night Film by Marisha Pessl - Psych thriller with a super natural vibe, some interesting formatting.
  • An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir - YA fantasy but actually good.
  • A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay - horror ft. ghosts (more sinister/creepy than scary) with the best twist ending I've ever read.
  • Wolves of Winter by Tyrell Johnson - post-apocalyptic, disease focus, but still similar to the real world
  • My Grandmother Apologizes and Sends Her Regards by Frederik Backman - mushy, heartfelt grieving kid, translation but well done

I guess we should come up with something for Sandy/Astro to do in the school year, eh? And maybe something with Elias/Luke?

I enjoy the times we spend being impatient together. It's much nicer than being impatient by myself.

I am excited for all our plots and any future chaos that happens!! How many more charries you think we can mess up??

I would like to throw out there that once, while bothering you about making a new charrie, I got a MAYBE. It was very exciting.

I also didn't know that Meg Cabot was still writing books and now I need to go look this up so thanks for that.

I hope Maggie is ready for having to put up with Astro again this year. And hopefully the rest of mine bother yours a bit less (unlikely though).

I am also sad that the Good Place is ending but this last season has also been kinda meh so far? So maybe it's for the best.

I am super excited for all our 2198708730184 (approximately) plots! We should also get around to threading Bas/Lia someday, but I keep getting distracted with Velias and Seilowe and hiding in discord chats instead of actually mentioning that.

And maybeeeee some Lolly threads?

"What the heck is Umm... Charlemagne?"

She assumed it was another school, like the one with the castle name that Polly had gone to for the past year. But for all she knew, it could be just about anything. Maybe it was a special quidditch league for people who were really talented or something.

"Yeah, I play for Gryffindor. My sister is one of the captains and she makes us play different positions, but I like chaser the best. I like being in the middle. And the time I played beater, someone broke my shoulder, so that's my least favourite."

That had been a bad day and even though it was all fine now - or as fine as it could be - it still made her upset to think about it. She did her best not to talk it out on Poppy's hair.

"You're coming to Hogwarts?!" she asked excitedly. "You're gonna love Hogwarts. Or maybe not. Sometimes the older students don't like Hogwarts too much. My sisters are like that. My sister's ex poisoned me because of not liking the school." She grinned at her suggestion for the hair though. "I can totally do french twists! I should make my sister do that next game. I'll do yours if you're in Gryffindor. Maybe also if you aren't."

"Are there bears and lions in the wild west? I thought they just had bad guys or whatever," she said, teasingly, leaning into him.

He started the song and when the right part came up, she started singing along.

"I know we gotta find more people for this band..." They really did. It had just been the two of them for almost a year, which wasn't really a band at all. "... But I also kinda like it being just me and you."

To be fair, I Was Made For Loving You is a fun song to have stuck in your head.

The important question when it comes to what you mentioned about jousting is if YOU have ever jousted with fire rings. Was it hard? How do you not catch yourself on fire (or is that just something I'd do?)?

I really enjoy our Jane/Astro threads and maybe some more gossip between them in the new term?

You getting overexciting about things is one of my favourite things, not gonna lie. It makes things pretty fun.

You play all of the instruments I want to learn/should be better at and I am forever impressed. Especially with the piano bit because piano is annoyingly difficult.

ALSO And Then There Were None is an absolutely stunning book (though haven't seen the show yet). But it's an awful book to read because there isn't really anything else out there to that level and then you're just mildly disappointed with any other mystery you go for.

I'm pretty excited for whatever Clara/Astro drama comes up so we should definitely do more of that!
