1946 / I never leave and nothing ever changes
« on: 12/05/2015 at 01:48 »
Some of you may know me, and I'm betting that even more of you don't, because I haven't been very visible lately. I'm Jaime, I'm old 31, and I live in New Jersey - that's USA for our internationals! I've been at Hoggies since 2010, and staff since...2012? I'm currently on a break from the major admin duties while I start a new job, plan my wedding, and get my life together. I'm hoping to use that time to reintegrate myself into the site, do some things behind the scenes, and start writing again.

This list captures what I deem the most relevant points in my life to date:

  • I graduated in May with my doctorate in school psychology. I've been working part-time as a school psychologist in an elementary school, and my dream company recently offered me a full time job developing the school psych certification exam. I start Jan. 11.
  • I have two birds: Lori (short for Delores), a 17-year-old cockatiel, and Bailey, 16-year-old eclectus parrot.
  • I started horseback riding again over the summer. My standing Friday night "date" is an Appaloosa gelding named Cinnamon. He's not mine, but I totally wish he was.
  • I still love him, even though right before Thanksgiving, he tripped and I fell off. I broke my elbow. Cinnamon is fine.
  • Things I like: Disney/Pixar/anything associated, Coke, fuzzy animals, yarn, cheese, movies, naps, planners and office supplies, and research.
  • Things I don't like: buses, heights (especially escalators, no no no), commuting, large crowds, early mornings, and coffee.
  • I have synesthesia. Specifically, I have chromesthesia, which means that I see colors when I hear music.
  • My typical Starbucks order is a venti cool lime refresher, two pumps of peppermint in the summer, and a venti iced chai, nonfat, two pumps of mocha in the winter.

I've been relatively homeostatic on the characters for a while, largely because my life was nuts. This list only includes the more "active" ones, although I think it's safe to say that I have been woefully inactive overall lately.

Isabelle Atkinson Valentine {Ravenclaw '37, Ravenclaw HoH}
Izzy is my first character, and she's also my favorite. She's a little neurotic and a little anxious, though less than she used to be, and a lot of nerdy overachiever. She spent two terms as Prefect, one as Duelling captain, and one as Head Girl. Iz is married to (the very handsome and dashing) Alexander Valentine and spends her time nagging either him or her students. This is my baby, right here. Izzy also has a baby of her own; Eleanor Rae Valentine was born July 1941.

Daphne Bennett {Gryffindor '39, St Mungo's}
Daphne is a lot of fun. Muggleborn and orphaned by the time warp, she's now discovering what she wants to do with her life. She is stubborn, unladylike, and deaf. Signs some, lip reads more. Also learning...a few new skills in the next term or so.

Dorian James {St. Mungo's, Department Head, Magical Psych}
Salem grad - Knight Society - Muggleborn, and less fumbling than he used to be. Dorian James has good instincts. He knows people, but that's about it, despite promising grades in his school days. He also fancies himself a bit of a ladies' man (rather than the hot mess he is) and hits on anyone over eighteen wearing a skirt. They don't call him "Dorkian" for nothin'. However, following a recent string of successes in treating the Minister's son (and daughter-in-law!), he's been promoted to head of the Magical Psych department. Y'all are in trouble now.

Ophelie Lecuyier {Former President, Salem Institute}
Oone of three Lecuyier siblings, Ophelie is the youngest at 28, French, and a Beauxbatons grad. She's a dancer, and very fickle - she waffles between extremely ambitious and extremely lazy depending on the hour, and can be more than just a little shady. That having been said, she's very charming and likes to have a good time. Ophelie and her unconventional family (her live-in boyfriend Nigel and their son William) have made the move back across the pond to Britain, where she's taken a job as an Unspeakable in the Department of Mysteries following her removal from her Wizengamot seat for her...irresponsibility. She's up to shady things this term.

Poppy Malthus {heiress, small child}
Poppy is adorable, charming, mischievous, and...well. About seven. It's safe to assume she has a large staff doting on her at every possible opportunity.

I may or may not be debating something new. We'll see.

I love lists. Kind of a lot. Lists are the best intros.

1943 / Busy busy busy [a non-absence]
« on: 12/13/2014 at 18:16 »
Just wanted to post this up as a general apology.

So I'm not going away any time soon (except maybe the couple of days immediately surrounding the holidays), but I've been slow for some time now. I expect this to ease up a little bit in January, because...

...as of Monday, Dec. 15, I will be finished collecting the data for my dissertation! I'm going to be spending the time before Christmas scoring and entering responses, and the week between Christmas and New Year's running stats and analyzing like a madwoman, but for those of you who've known me since I started here, you know what this means.

I'M GRADUATING IN MAY. For real and for true.

As always, I'm still available if you need me, and I'll be trying to schedule time in for threads, because I feel like I haven't written anything in forever, and I'm trying not to be a horrible admin, but dudes, I gotta get this bad boy DONE.

Love y'all. <3

Which is why I keep recycling this intro post. Seriously guys, I am so not interesting.

I love lists. Kind of a lot.

  • I'm Jaime, I'm old 30, and I live in New Jersey - that's USA for our internationals!
  • I'm also a fifth-year PhD student in school psychology, which means that I work a 40+ hour workweek as an intern for no money (although I gotta say, I love where I intern), tutor after-hours for woefully little money, and am breaking my back to finish my dissertation so I can graduate in May!
  • When I'm not in class/on a train/tutoring/doing homework, I am probably: on Hoggies, at the gym (lol maybe I'll go back one day), in bed sleeping, knitting, or loving on my birdies.
  • Yep, birdies. I have two: Lori (short for Delores), a 17-year-old cockatiel, and Bailey, 15-year-old eclectus parrot.
  • Things I like: Disney/Pixar/anything associated, Coke, fuzzy animals (omg puppppieees), yarn, cheese, movies, naps, planners and office supplies, research, and Apple products.
  • Things I don't like: buses, heights (especially escalators, no no no), commuting, large crowds, early mornings, and coffee.
  • Top 5 classically animated Disney movies: Lilo & Stitch, The Emperor's New Groove, Beauty & the Beast, The Lion King, & The Little Mermaid. (I'll tell you what, though, Frozen won my heart.)
  • My character's sigs are a ridiculously accurate reflection of my musical preferences.
  • I've been at Hoggies for almost four RL years, and staff for three of those years, and admin for nearly two. Crazy.

I keep claiming that I have enough characters and yet, more keep popping up. Hm. The current crew is:

Isabelle Atkinson Valentine {Ravenclaw '37, Ravenclaw HoH}
Izzy is my first character, and she's also my favorite. She's a little neurotic and a little anxious, though less than she used to be, and a lot of nerdy overachiever. She's up to shady things this term.

Horace C. Stufflebeam {former Librarian, Hogwarts}
Horace is an old, stodgy codger who likes obnoxious tweed suits and world culture. A former Ravenclaw, he's very well-educated and well-traveled, and has finally  spent the past two terms teaching Beginners Charms before transferring to librarian. He's very curmudgeonly but loves kids, deep down. Somewhere.

Leon Monceaux {4th year, Hogwarts}
Leon is one part evil genius, one part quirky eccentric, and one part Pureblood jerk. He's a rising sixth year Slytherin of French and English descent, and his favorite hobbies are pointing out why he's better than you, dissecting things to see how they work, and harassing his cousin Roberta. Also extremely button-phobic.

Poppy Malthus {heiress, small child}
Poppy is adorable, charming, mischievous, and...well. About five. It's safe to assume she has a large staff doting on her at every possible opportunity.

1942 / Recycling is your friend.

In which I (mostly) recycle the same intro list I've been using for a million summers.

  • I'm Jaime, I'm old 30, and I live in New Jersey.
  • I'm also a fifth-year PhD student in school psychology. This is my last year! I have internship (read: full-time job for no money) and dissertation, and then I am outta there,
  • When I'm not in class/on a bus/working off tuition/doing homework, I am probably: on Hoggies, at the gym, in bed sleeping, knitting.
  • I'm one of those "bird people". I have a 16-year-old cockatiel named Lori, and this summer, I adopted a 15-year-old Eclectus named Bailey.
  • For my 30th birthday this past May, I swam with sharks. Coolest thing I've ever done.
  • I have synesthesia. Specifically, I have chromesthesia, which means that I see colors when I hear music.
  • My character's sigs are a ridiculously accurate reflection of my musical preferences.
  • I've been at Hoggies for...three RL years I think? Of those, I've been staff for 2.5 and admin for 1.5. Ish. I think. It all melds together.

I keep claiming that I have enough characters and yet, more keep popping up. Hm. The current crew is:

Isabelle Atkinson Valentine {Ravenclaw '37, Ravenclaw HoH}

Also extremely button-phobic.

Poppy is adorable, charming, mischievous, and...well. Three. She spends most of her time in Palo Alto, CA, where she is doted upon by her father, her nanny, and occasionally her two favorite babysitters.

1941 / I...words fail me.
« on: 04/27/2014 at 18:56 »
So. I'm sure some of you have noticed I haven't been around as much. That is because of two things:
  • My dissertation committee is, I think, actively trying to kill me. They decided on Thursday at 6 PM that I need to defend my proposal on Monday. THIS MONDAY. Now it may even be Tuesday, who knows. But I have been/still am running around like a madwoman trying to find a faculty member to chair my defense, making copies, throwing together a presentation...on top of my regularly-scheduled life, which doesn't stop just because my committee thinks it should.
  • On Friday evening, my grandmother was admitted to the hospital. We don't know what's wrong - they're still running tests - but it's something related to her liver. My house and my family are sort of in chaos mode right now.

So I'm popping in to do my admin things, but I just don't have a ton of time or head space to respond to my threads right now. I'm hoping that after this coming Saturday (May 3), things will settle down - my 30th birthday is May 2, so I'm giving myself a little leeway to enjoy it a bit.

Thanks for being patient with me, guys.

1941 / Summer Surveys!
« on: 04/21/2014 at 18:26 »
Hello, hello! Hope all of you have been having a great summer both IC and OOC!

Now that we're well into summer IC though, we'd appreciate it greatly if you could take a few moments and complete a quick survey! This allows us to gauge what to do more of next summer term as well as get a feeling for what areas we can work on as a site.
  • New members, please take the survey here!
  • Returning members, please take the survey here!
  • Anyone who has used the Gringotts system, please take the Gringotts survey here!

(Just as a note, the Gringotts survey is only about the Gringotts system, so you can take that one + whichever survey reflects your player status. Also - your primary character name is not required when filling out the surveys. If you're not comfortable including it, please don't feel you have to!)

Thanks in advance, and hope all of you are excited for term, because guess who has two thumbs and can't wait?

See you all at the Castle!

1941 / Hoggies' First Summer Raffle!
« on: 04/01/2014 at 01:53 »
Hoggies' first:

Summer Raffle

Why?
Everything's more expensive these days, and that includes the cost of keeping Hoggies running. Subscriptions are an awesome way to support the site, but we recognize that not everyone needs or wants a subscription, or that some folks might prefer a more flexible way to show their support. Raffle proceeds will go towards things like web hosting, chat upgrades, and buying more server space to host posts.

How does it work?
It works just a like a RL raffle! Tickets can be purchased (or earned!) throughout the summer for a variety of prizes. Over the last OOC weekend of the summer month, we'll have a "bonfire chat" in which the winners are announced. (Don't worry - you don't need to be present to win your prize!)

In addition to a chance to win an awesome prize, everyone who donates will receive a special Donor Appreciate award badge ( ) in their subby, modeled here by the lovely and talented CKeds.

A list of our donors/ticket purchasers and what prizes they're gunning for is also available here.

What can I win?
Our prize packages include the following:
  • One (1) Platinum subscription
  • One (1) plot page package: a custom plot page for a character of the winner's choice, plus 3 custom avatars - donated by Charles Kedding
  • Three (3) 100-point lots of Gringotts points - donated by Calla Locksley
  • One (1) auto-accepted small special request* (e.g., special pet)
  • One (1) special request item (e.g., one vial of Felix Felicis, or an invisibility cloak for one term)*
  • Three (3) Levels Packages (3 prizes: grand prize - +1 level in each category, second prize - +2 levels wherever you'd like, third prize +1 free level)
  • One (1) lot of +10 points toward passing a class of your choice for the 1941-42 term

That's eleven (11) prizes in total, so we'll have 11 winners! And yes, you may be lucky enough to be pulled for more than one prize. The raffle winners will be decided by a random number generator.

How much does it cost?
Tickets can be purchased for $1 US each, or in a bundle of 5 tickets for $3 US. Additionally, the admins may award tickets at their discretion, for things like service to the site, exceptional roleplaying, or for Player of the Week awards.

When can I buy tickets?
The raffle date is OOC April 27. You can buy tickets up until 11:59 PM EST on OOC April 26!

How do I buy tickets?
Easy! There's no way to do it automatically yet, but here's the procedure:

  • Go straight to Paypal and login to the account you wish to use to pay for your tickets.
  • From the tabs at the top, select "Send Money" just to the right of "My Account."
  • In the "To" field, type subscriptions@hogwarts-school.net.
  • The "Amount" field will vary depending on how many tickets you wish to purchase. Single tickets will cost $1 US, while multiples of 5 will cost ($3 x [number of multiples]). So 5 tickets will cost $3 US, 10 tickets will cost $6, etc.
  • Ensure that the "Purchase" tab is selected, and select the "Services" option. Click "Continue."
  • After submitting and confirming the transaction, return to any board in the Hogwarts School family and use the Helpdesk feature to open a new help ticket.
  • In the ticket's subject, type "Summer Raffle". Mark the ticket's category as "Subscriptions."
  • In the body of the ticket, we need the following information to match your request to the paypal records:
    --- The first name on your Paypal account or credit card
    --- The date of the transaction
    --- Number of tickets you intended to purchase
    --- Which prizes you'd like to be considered for (please account for all tickets!)
    If you would like your information to only be viewable by administrators (not moderators), please put a request in the ticket's body for it to be made private.
  • Within 48 hours, an administrator will send you your ticket numbers and add your Donor Appreciation Badge!

1937 / Rollin' with the homies
« on: 11/30/2012 at 02:44 »
(...WAY HARSH TAI.)

Hey everyone! I am bad at intro posts and really good at lists, so in continuing summer tradition, I present to you...a list.

  • I'm Jaime, I'm old 28, and I live in New Jersey.
  • I'm also a third-year PhD student in school psychology, which means I have a killer commute, spend an inordinate amount of time on a bus, and have one semester between me and dissertation. Whoo boy.
  • When I'm not in class/on a bus/working off tuition/doing homework, I am probably: on Hoggies, at the gym, in bed sleeping, knitting, or trying to convince my 14-year-old cockatiel to have less of a bad attitude.
  • My character's sigs are a ridiculously accurate reflection of my musical preferences.
  • I've been here over a year and my first (and favorite) character just graduated. *sobs*

I keep claiming that I have enough characters and yet, more keep popping up. Hm. The current crew is:

Isabelle Atkinson {Ravenclaw '37}
Izzy is my first character, and she's also my favorite. She's a little neurotic and a little anxious, though less than she used to be, and a lot of nerdy overachiever. She spent two terms as Prefect, one as Duelling captain, and one as Head Girl. Iz is getting married to (the very handsome and dashing) Alexander Valentine this summer, and starts her new job in the fall. This is my baby, right here.

Daphne Bennett {Gryffindor, rising 6th year}
Daphne is a lot of fun, or at least she used to be. Muggleborn and recently orphaned by the time warp, she's now living with Calla Locksley and her brothers. She's a little more sullen, but shades of the fun-loving hellion she used to be peek out here and there. Daphne is stubborn, unladylike, and deaf. Signs some, lip reads more.

Joséphine Delaveau {Beauxbatons, 3e Année, Humanities}
Josie is really new for me and I know almost nothing about her, except that she's torn between wanting to be a good girl and wanting to be her own girl. And she has a horse.

Ophelie Lecuyier {Transfiguration Professor, Salem Institute}
Former Vice President of Salem and one of three Lecuyier siblings, Ophelie is the youngest at 24, French, and a Beauxbatons grad. She's a dancer, and very fickle - she waffles between extremely ambitious and extremely lazy depending on the hour, and can be more than just a little shady. That having been said, she's very charming and likes to have a good time.

Horace C. Stufflebeam {Librarian, Hogwarts}
Somewhere.

(I'M SORRY THIS GOT AWAY FROM, SOMEONE SHUT ME UP.)

(Harpy, that was for you.)

So I'm really sort of woefully late on this introduction, but I have an excuse. I was in Disney World playing being an adult at some conference where they think I'm a professional.

Anyway. I'm Jaime, I'm 28, and I'm a professional Ravenclaw third-year doctoral student in school psychology. What that really means is that I spend a lot of time here avoiding all my homework, and also a lot of time on the bus. In my spare time that I don't have, I like to knit and read and sometimes I even go to the gym. But mostly I'm here, with these guys:

Isabelle Atkinson, Ravenclaw 7th year, super nerd. She's a two-time prefect, duelist, and all-around overachiever who really isn't going to know what to do with herself now that her boyfriend has graduated and she doesn't have anyone to sneak around with distract her.

Daphne Bennett, Gryffindor, 5th year, mess in a dress. Deaf, clumsy, and loud, Daphne spends most of her time being a super slacker, getting intro trouble, and scheming up new ways to get out of it. She has a particular affinity for snooping around in staff members' offices, and is really good at turning her hearing aids off if whatever you're saying is boring.

Horace C. Stufflebeam, Ravenclaw class of *mumblemumble*, Charms professor. Loves horrible orange tweed suits, his beloved cane, and his wife Mimi. Doesn't have a lot of tolerance in general, but makes special exceptions for little girls who remind him of his late daughter Alice.

Ophelie Lecuyier, former Beauxbatons, Performance, dance concentration. Now the Vice President of Salem. She's both extremely ambitious and extremely lazy, and as the youngest of three, really just wants to prove that she's more than a silly ballerina. Most of the time.

Who? Isabelle Atkinson, Daphne Bennett, & Ophelie Lecuyier
When? August 2 - 6
Why? Because I am presenting research at a conference like a big girl.

I WILL MISS YOU ALL LIKE WHOA. I said it.

Also, Ophelie's summer class at Salem is still going up as planned, either tonight or tomorrow. I'll have access to PMs and stuff, and I'll be able to respond if it's important, but I don't know what my schedule is for serious business posting.

Not being at summer camp was strange.

Isabelle had been at camp every year since she started at Hogwarts. Last year, especially, she'd lived and breathed it, and if she was honest with herself, she missed counseling now. Her summer plans this year consisted primarily of lounging around Alex's place, reading and eating and nagging her boyfriend, and while it was lovely, she sort of missed being needed.

Today, she'd taken a detour back to campus for a lunch date. Of all Izzy's male friends, Maverick Steele was perhaps her favorite. He was enough like Alex that she liked him, and enough like her that she understood him. She stared at him over the rim of her water glass, swirling the straw and clinking the ice against the sides of the tumbler.

"So, what's new?"

1973 / Game Two: Pegasus versus Aithon
« on: 04/25/2012 at 05:44 »
Saturday
August 11th
1:00pm
Weather: Bright, humid, with occasional wind gusts

Isabelle was uncertain.

For the moment, her feet were, fortunately, still planted firmly on the ground. All she had to do was release the balls, and the teams would take care of the rest. Izzy was thankful that she didn't have to contend with the weather of the last game; there was no rain, no hazy fog. Today it was bright and sunny, if hot and humid in that way that was so telling of the dog days of summer.

(The brightness and the sun only meant she'd be able to see that much more clearly how high above the ground she truly was. Isabelle tried not to think about it.)

How had she gotten roped into this, again? Somewhere on campus, Alex was waiting for her, and laughing, she was sure. Well, no one would be chuckling when she took a bludger to the face and had to go to the infirmary and--

That's right. There was a game to ref.

"Okay, guys," Izzy began, trying to sound confident that she could handle this. "Let's have a good, clean game, please?" Izzy shot a special glance at Erynn and Maurus. "That goes double for the two of you."

Relishing her last few moments on solid earth, Izzy walked over to the Quidditch trunk and opened the lid. She reached for the Snitch first and let it buzz off into the air. Next, she cautiously released Bludgers Pongo and Perdita, ducking to avoid whichever was the wilier of the two. Finally, Isabelle took up the Quaffle, and blew her whistle as she hurled the ball upwards.

"Play ball!"

She had never been one for sports.

1973 / Cream, Two Sugars [Hero]

Mid-August, mid-morning
Camp kitchens

Sneaking down for breakfast had been a better idea than eating in the Main Hall. Less crowded, less noisy. More choices. Better choices. Being camp staff had its perks, if you knew where to find them. Bagels and coffee fell neatly into that category.

The kitchens had better coffee, too, now she thought about it. Stronger coffee.

"How do you take it, Hero?" Isabelle asked, as she fixed her own cup. She'd never liked it black, though she'd tried - it seemed very Ravenclaw to drink coffee black, after all; it was more potent that way - but it always seemed too bitter straight up, and it was hard to choke down enough of it to fuel the late nights.

Instead, she'd learned to like it sweet. Cream, two sugars.

Isabelle liked Hero Savage. She liked most people, really, but Hufflepuffs especially. They had an easy way about them, and Izzy liked that. It was easy to step into a friendship with a Hufflepuff, always comfortable. She stirred her coffee a little and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Why didn't we think of doing this before?" Izzy smiled. Breakfast was so much more pleasant with company.

Past Workshop Prompts / Prompt 73C: You've Got Personality
« on: 04/16/2012 at 18:12 »
Personality. It’s the thought patterns, feelings, and quirks that make up the unique way a person or character interacts with his or her world. Everybody has one, good bad, or ugly. Personality is displayed in behavior, in reactions to the statements or intentions of others. It’s like an onion - or a particularly tasty cake, depending on who are. There are layers.

For this prompt, there are two options, though they both start the same way. Take this version of the Meyers-Briggs personality test as your character. Then pick your path:

Write a paragraph showcasing each of the four factors of your character’s personality type. For example, Izzy is an ENFJ, which makes her four factors Extroverted, Intuitive, Feeling, and Judgmental. A great breakdown of the types is here, if you need a little extra information. Don't forget, personality manifests in a variety of ways. This can be in response to a specific event or person, or snapshots of something different for each factor. Get creative.

Or, write something showing how your character embodies his or her overall type. Going back to Izzy, the test characterizes her as a Teacher, but there are a whole slew of types, depending on how your character’s four factors come together.

How to do this:
  • Start a new thread in the Summer Workshop forum. It should be called Past Prompt 73C: [Title of your piece]
  • Write your piece, following the prompt above.
  • Review the pieces of others (see How To Workshop).

Shoot me a PM if you’ve got any questions, guys, and have fun!

1973 / Bottoms Up [Closed]
« on: 04/14/2012 at 02:44 »
For someone who had never been a Wing Assistant, Isabelle sure knew her way around an infirmary. Seemed like she wound up here at least once a summer, more often for the Hospital Wing during term. Dueling just wasn't dueling until Isabelle Atkinson had gotten a concussion.

She'd never understood why everyone thought it was fun to aim at the Ravenclaw's head.

Fortunately, this visit was more informational than medicinal. Ed's little first aid lecture had sort of scared her, and AJ hadn't helped. Izzy knew they'd meant well, but they were right. You never did know when some first year was going to fall off a broom, crack his head, and wind up bleeding profusely on the Quidditch pitch.

(This, by the way, was precisely why Isabelle did not fly.)

Better to knew where all the appropriate potions and ointments and things were. Hero and Calla did a great job running things, but Izzy had seen the Wing after a Quidditch match or a particularly rough duel. Things got busy. Besides, people did need lunch breaks. She didn't want to assume there'd always be someone there, so she'd come by on her own break to sort of...scout around a little.

The cabinet in the back seemed as good a place to start as any. With a shrug, Izzy started to clear the thing out, setting all the bottles on the table beside her. There was a blue one - Ravenclaw blue, Izzy's favorite - in a tall, ornate bottle. One was green, and pear-shaped, followed by one in a tiny pink bottle. One was a pleasing violet color (Isabelle had always liked purple), another vial was stocky and square, and the second-to last one was a round yellowish green. The final bottle was red. Izzy wrinkled her nose. She'd never liked red much, but they all looked nice lined up.

Nothing was labeled, of course. "That's helpful," she snarked, annoyed, and felt around in the cabinet to see if anyone had left her a cheat sheet.

When Izzy's hand hit parchment, she pulled it out, fully expecting a detailed explanation of each bottle's name and use, but all she got was a goofy poem.

If on and on you moving must
In none the redder must you trust
Too high, too low, will keep you slow
Too thick, too thin, may keep you in
Blue as the sea, tranquil and calm
Should none the less have caused alarm
Though brown in close, feet on the ground
The greenery's what must be found

She stopped reading about halfway through, frustrated. Izzy shook her head and strode off to find Hero. She wanted a word about the organization of this place, honestly.

[OOC - Okay, guys. When you think you know which bottle is the right one, shoot a PM to one of the summer plot mods - me, Adam Just, Calla Locksley, or Edgar Charles Marlow - and we'll send you the second half of the poem, which will direct you to the next clue. Good luck!]

1973 / Growing Pains [Charlotte]
« on: 04/06/2012 at 06:33 »
Just as Izzy felt the lake was hers and Alex's, she felt the gardens belonged to her and Charlotte. This was where they had met - had it really been two years ago? - and where they'd reconvened every summer thereafter to sort of conduct a state of the union of their friendship. Izzy looked forward to that. She counted on it.

When Charlotte had gone to France to study abroad this summer, Izzy was convinced they'd miss their summer get-together, so when the Hufflepuff had written and said she'd be back for a visit, Isabelle had dropped everything to make time.

Last term, the two girls had barely crossed paths. In fact, the only time she'd had really seen Charlotte had been after the first round of the dueling tournament, in the Hospital Wing, when Izzy had been sent down for a concussion and assorted cuts and bruises. She hadn't thought much about it at the time, for Izzy hadn't been able to see much past her own nose and whatever exam lay around the corner, but it was really a shame it had taken a head injury to bring them together to chat.

Guiltily, Isabelle wondered if Charlotte felt bad that she'd drifted away. At first, the Ravenclaw had told herself that it was only because of OWLs, because her study schedule was impossible, because dueling practice and her Prefect duties took too much time. But somehow, while Izzy and Charlotte had grown apart, Izzy and Erynn had grown closer. And Alex, of course there was Alex. Suddenly, she felt terrible, like she'd abandoned one for the sake of the other.

Well, she'd try to make up for it today. It wouldn't be enough, but it was a start. Izzy's letter had told Charlotte that she'd be waiting for her in the usual place. What time had Charlotte said she was getting in again?
