1974 / [Summer Games] Quidditch Match 1, Game 1
« on: 08/08/2012 at 14:52 »

10 July 1974
Early Morning
Already hot & humid

"Grief."

Sweat crested on her brow, and though Esme usually loved the heat - was a child of the deep south - England had tempered her taste for it. Switzerland hadn't helped. Lifting her sunglasses to rest atop her head, she looked out onto the field before stealing a sidelong glance at the blonde.

"I never understood why people liked this game."

And she didn't, she never had. Timothy had played Quidditch as though his life depended on it, Damien and Lukas and Penelope all following suit, but Esme had watched from the sidelines -- often with her head in her hands. Flying on broomsticks invited certain death, and she had better ways to perish.

Hopefully with a fruity drink in the middle of Aruba.

Dressed in a simple black sundress, her hair was chopped short and cut close to her chin. Esme hadn't expected to return to the isles so soon, missed Finland already, but that was neither here nor there.

She drew a breath and stepped onto the field, her heels standing firm against the dried grass.

"Game on!"

1973 / New Administrator!
« on: 04/28/2012 at 18:42 »
Hello everyone!

We've elected a new administrator to the site. In this process, we were looking for someone who was an enthusiastic member of the site, actively contributed both IC and OOC, and had a specific skill set to help set and measure our site metrics.

That said, please congratulate J Walsingham (Annabel Grey) if/when you see her!

1973 / Back to School 1973
« on: 04/24/2012 at 15:25 »
Hi everyone! Within the next week, we will transition to the last two boards in the Hogwarts School ring. For our new members, this is intended to be your go-to guide to the Castle and the Classroom boards.

By now, you should have accessed three of the boards within our school: the Sorting Hat, where you applied, the Summer Campus, where you are now, and Elsewhere. If you can't access the Castle or the Classroom boards when term begins on May 1st, please submit a ticket to the Helpdesk (located at the top menu bar), and someone will get on that as soon as possible!

finding your house

On the first night of term (1 May 2012), there will be a large thread in the News forum announcing where all new applicants are placed. Older students are free to RP this however they see fit - though they likely visited Hogwarts Castle over the summer and were given an admissions test and sorted privately. These results were kept a secret until term started, though you are free to RP as though Pythagorea Proud (Deputy Headmistress, NPC this term) pulled your character aside and assigned them a house before entering the Opening Feast.

Once we open the castle, you're allowed to post everywhere, but always remember to check out the Opening Feast first. It's where you can meet other students. While the IC sequence would be: Hogwarts Express thread (at the Elsewhere forum), Sorting, firsties walk to their table, Professor speech, food and conclusion, all of these up to firsties walk to their table would be happening concurrently in OOC so you'll be able to post in all these threads at the same time.

levels

The next thing to check is your levels. Levels are the mishmash of numbers and letters beneath your avatar (your "subbie", colloquially) that denote your character's magical strength, weakness, and overall levels. To check this, you simply have to post! If you're checking subbies, go ahead and check them in the Testing forum, or just wait until you show up at the Opening Feast and check them then. The letters in your levels denote the subject: C is for Charms, D is for Divination, T is forTransfiguration, and S is - you guessed it! - Conjuring/Summoning.

Your magical strength will be one number above your year, while your magical weakness will be one number below your year. The other two will be the same number as your year. For example: Sally Slytherin is a fourth year with a charms strength and a divination weakness. Her levels are:

C5D3T4S4

If you have any trouble with your levels, ask your Head of House or your mentor! Accordingly:

administration

This is where the moderators sign off and hand the reins over to a new set of administrators. Don't worry, you know them - they're the ones who accepted your application in the first place. For reference, the Castle and Classroom administrators are:

Headmaster: Professor Tibble
Deputy Headmistress: Pythagorea Proud, NPC
Keeper of the Keys: TBA.
Gryffindor Head of House: Arnaud Gaudet
Hufflepuff Head of House: William Lancaster
Ravenclaw Head of House: Esme Faracy
Slytherin Head of House: Anneka Ivanova

classes!

The Classroom board is where all classes are held.

Class sign-ups are usually held within the first ten days (OOC) of term. You are allowed to take up to four (4) classes, two of which may be core classes (Charms, Divination, Transfiguration, Conjuring/Summoning). This means that you can take two core classes and two electives, one core class and three electives, no core classes and four electives, or any combination that I haven't considered. You do not have to take four classes, and it is encouraged that you take as many as you can handle, but know your limits. Classes attempt to hold three full lessons through the course of the three-month term which makes for steady posting. If you have any questions, again, contact your mentor, your Head of House, or the professor in question!

Classes are RPed, so you write posts much like you would in any other thread. There is a designated professor leading each class, and they've written out syllabi as to what will be done. Some classes have group exercises, where your character is paired with others, while some have practical lessons where you write your character practicing spells and learning to harvest plants.  There are usually three lessons per class that are RPed out each term, staggered over the course of the term.

Electives for this term are:
The Art of Dueling
Care of Magical Creatures
Herbology
History of Magic
Muggle Studies
Potions

extracurriculars

There are four extracurriculars in our universe:
Dueling

Quidditch

Spellbound
The Spellbound is the school newspaper. Students can write for it in lots of different capacities - house news, gossip columns, sport news. Older students are editors for the paper. You can see past editions at hogwarts-school.net/spellbound!

back to school checklist
Right Now
[ ] Read the rules on magical levels, located here: http://hogwarts-school.net/summer/index.php?board=7.0
[ ] Make sure your special requests have been responded to - special powers, animals, and the like. Remember, only owls, rats, cats, and toads are allowed as pets without a special request!
[ ] Refresh the Castle rating rules, found at the Sorting Hat.

Two Days Before
[ ] Close up your threads at the Summer Campus. Almost immediately after the Castle opens, the Summer Campus dies, so be ready for a quick drop-off in summer-related posts.

Big First Day
[ ] Check the News forum for your house and year!
[ ] Check that you can access your House OOC (if you are able to see posts within your House OOC, you have access. You won't have access to the other House OOCs.)
[ ] Check that your magical levels are correct: your strength will be one number higher than your year, and your weakness will be one number lower. For instance, if Annabel's strength was charms and her weakness was divination, and she was sorted into first year, her levels would be C2D0T1S1.
[ ] Go to the Opening Feast! The Opening Feast is set up in multiple threads, and students are welcome to post their entrance as soon as term starts. If you would like to be Sorted (as most first years do!), there will be a thread where you can RP your character being Sorted. Midway through, Professor Tibble will make a speech and the Head Boy, Head Girl, and Prefects will be announced. After the speech is completed, students are free to go (though the food will have just been served!).

Big First Week
[ ] Sign up for classes! Classes sign ups are usually open for a week--unless it has reached its caps--and you can sign up by replying on the sign up threads. The professor can choose to place a cap on it (sometimes they don't), and yes, it's first-come, first-served. However, if you really want to attend a particular class and you're late for sign up, you can try to PM the professor, see if they would be able to fit another student in their class. Don't be upset if they can't, there's always other classes to take!

Classes this term are:
Charms
Divination
Transfiguration
Conjuring and Summoning
The Art of Dueling
Care of Magical Creatures
Herbology
History of Magic
Muggle Studies
Potions

You can take up to four (4) classes, but no more than two (2) of those may be core classes (those in italics).

 • Quidditch (house team)
 • Dueling (house team)

dormitories
Gryffindors
The common room is decorated with scarlet tapestries, which hang on the walls. The tapestries depict witches and wizards, but also various animals. It is usually where celebration parties are held after Gryffindor Quidditch victories.

The Gryffindor dormitories are also located in the Tower, with two doors leading off from the common room that open to spiral staircases. One of them leads to the girls dormitory, the other to the boys. The stairs to the girls dormitories are enchanted to become a slide if any boy attempts to climb them, but not vice versa, since it was deemed that girls were more trustworthy than boys.

Ravenclaws
The Ravenclaw common room is one of the airiest rooms at Hogwarts. It is a wide, circular room with a midnight blue carpet, arched windows hung with soft blue and bronze silks, and a domed ceiling painted with stars. During the day, the Ravenclaw students would have an excellent view of the school grounds, including the lake, Forbidden Forest, Quidditch pitch, Herbology gardens and the surrounding mountains.

The room is furnished with tables, chairs, and bookcases; and by the door leading up to the dormitiories stands a tall statue of Rowena Ravenclaw made of white marble. The sound of wind whistling around the windows of the tower is very relaxing whilst going to sleep.

Slytherins
The Slytherin Dungeon is located behind a wall in the cellars of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. A password spoken to the wall is required to enter it; whereupon a passage is revealed leading to the common room -- a low-ceilinged, dungeon-like room with greenish lamps and chairs. This dungeon extends partway under the lake, giving the light in the room a green tinge. The common room has lots of low backed black and dark green leather sofas with buttons, skulls, and dark wood cupboards. It has quite a grand atmosphere, but also quite a cold one. The password to the common room changes every fortnight, and it is posted on the noticeboard.

Hufflepuffs
The actual basement itself is round, earthy and low-ceilinged, welcoming, warm and sunny. There are lots of yellow hangings, burnished copper, and overstuffed sofas and armchairs upholstered in yellow and black, and circular windows that provide a vista of "rippling grass and dandelions". There is also a large, honey coloured, wooden mantelpiece with carvings of badgers on it. This is located underneath a portrait of the house's founder, Helga Hufflepuff.

The Hufflepuff dormitories are also located in the cellar and have perfectly circular doors, with lots of little underground tunnels leading off from the common room. One of them leads to the girls' dormitory, the other to the boys. In each dormitory four-poster beds covered in patchwork quilts. The dorms are illuminated by warm copper lamps and copper bed-warmers hang on the wall in case of cold feet.

Staff - the staff common room is in the South Tower, not far from the Entrance Hall. Unlike the student common rooms, it isn't warded, so anyone can go in if they need to. There are en-suite apartments for the use of staff in the upper floors of the west bailey, and an apartment for the school nurse in the hospital wing; these are password-warded.

uniforms
Students do not have to wear the school uniform at weekend. They don't in the films, as you say, and I didn't have to when I was at boarding school, so it seems reasonable to me.

house points
IC Points

One of the easiest ways to receive IC points is to participate in classes. However, these points do not contribute to the House Cup race. The short and simple reason behind this is because we do not want people to strive for Mary Sue characters. We want everyone to write different type of students--some intelligent, some not, some rule-breakers, some teacher's pets, etc. Therefore, IC points would disadvantage active OOC players who are playing a not-so-perfect student.

OOC Points

OOC points are awarded based on participation and quality of posts. Contributing in Spellbound, Hospital Wing, Duelling tournament and being chosen as Prefect Picks would also help in this. These points are then accumulated and tallied at the end of the term and then used to determined the winner of the House Cup. With this, we encourage members to participate, stay active, and to write better quality posts and characters.

duels and fights
Duels/fights of any kind need to be pre-approved and it's up to the posters as long as it still follows the magical rules which can be found here:

http://hogwarts-school.net/summer/index.php?board=7.0

holidays
Students are allowed to leave the Castle to visit Hogsmeade on weekends (chaperoned by an older student for the younger years), and may return home for the winter holidays. Other visits need to be authorized by your house head.

thank you!
We still have a few days, so please continue to enjoy the Summer Campus until term begins. We'll do our best to keep things interesting and be around to answer any questions. If you have any problems or concerns, don't hesitate to contact me or any of the Hangout staff (you'll find a full listing in the Announcements forum). Thanks to everyone for a great summer, and we'll see you at the Castle!

Kudos to Annabel Grey for coding this. Mommy loves you.

1973 / Annual Survey!
« on: 04/21/2012 at 03:06 »
Hello everyone!

Each term, we like to publish a survey for our members to collect feedback on how things are going, what we can do to improve, and whether you like cupcakes ice cream. There are two different surveys, depending on whether you are a returning member (joined on or before 01 January 2012) or a new member (joined after 01 January 2012). Both are completely anonymous, and we ask that you give as much feedback as possible - the more we know, the more we can do.

Some examples of past improvements:
- Announcements when new administrators are appointed
- Beauxbatons Academy & Salem Insitute became real schools
- Extracurriculars earn levels in addition to classes
- And more, but I can't think of it right now.

Anyway! Surveys will be open until 01 May 2012, so if you could take a few minutes and fill it out, it would be greatly appreciated.

The chatroom is only open to characters actively writing at our site. You must register to join our chat.

Paging All Residents!
Check out the General OOC if your character plans to stay at the Summer Campus for the summer (and if they have anyone that they would like to live with!). Keep in mind, the cabins are separated boys and girls. Younger years share cabins of up to ten students (rising years 1-6, essentially), while older years bunk in groups of four (rising year 7).

Got a boo-boo?
The infirmary, located across the hall from the Mess Hall, is open for all of your medical disasters. Come by and visit!

Going Out?
The little Summer Campus town (between the Summer Campus and Hogsmeade) is home to all sorts of small businesses. Feel free to have your parents crash for a weekend at the hotel, hold a romantic tryst in the gazebo, or spend an afternoon in the bookshop.

Biographies, Plot Pages, and Journals, oh my!
Be sure to check out the Character Development forums for Wanted! ads and plot pages. They're a good way to make friends without doing an introductory ("Hi, I'm Esme." "Hi, I'm Timothy." "I'm the Keeper of the Keys." "Yeah I know.") thread.

Thanks everyone! Have a great summer.

1972 / Back to School: Q & A
« on: 12/29/2011 at 15:39 »
Hi everyone!

Here's a thread to ask your most pressing (or most interesting) questions about going back to the Castle (or going there for the first time!). If you hear a question posed in chat, or have one of your own, feel free to post it here. Be sure to check out the "Back to School 1972" post in the Announcements forum as well, as it answers a fair amount of questions.

Returning players, please only respond to a question if you are certain of the answer.

Ready go.

We still have a few days, so please continue to enjoy the Hangout until term begins.

1972 / NPC Sign-up
« on: 12/28/2011 at 16:53 »
Hey everyone!

Each year, we publish a roster of the characters at the Castle. We know that some of you have siblings or other non-played characters with whom you've interacted in the past, and we try to incorporate them into the roster.

Given our high sign-up numbers, roster space for NPCs is limited, so please choose judiciously to include them. If it's important, though, go ahead and post below using this form:

Code: [Select]
NPC Name:
Year:
House:
Siblings:

Thanks!

We'll be doing this on a first-come first-served basis. Excessive requests will probably be put toward the end.

1972 / A Very Hogwarts Contest: #500
« on: 12/20/2011 at 21:01 »
A CONTEST!
We are up to four-hundred and fifty seven registered accounts on Hogwarts School. That's crazy! Anna and Robbie have made way too many characters!

But seriously, we think it's awesome, and we're flattered that you all have elected to join and stay with us long enough to make multiple accounts, build up storylines, and keep us company during those long, 9-5 work days. We've gone through some slow times in our history, and while I can't speak for everyone (but I'm going to try), I have to say that having all of you here really makes a world of difference.

So we're having a contest. I got it cleared with our King of Subscriptions (Will Lancaster), who gave me a very begrudging 'Sure?', to offer our 500th accountholder a free Knut account. With the Knut account, you get two additional sub-accounts to your primary account and a cute little badge by your name.

OKAY, BUT I ALREADY HAVE AN ACCOUNT
While this Knut account is only for a new member (as it will have to be a primary account), we'll be giving away a second Knut account for the site member who recommends our #500.

SO HOW DO I ENTER?
Simple! Invite your friends, your family, your particularly literate dog... whomever you can think of to come to Hogwarts School, fill out an application for either Hogwarts Castle or Elsewhere, and have them put your name at the bottom of their application. We have eleven days until the Sort closes, and we're just shy of 40 accounts away from reaching our goal. This is totally possible.

RULES
 • The 500th account must be a new member on their primary account
 • Accounts registered on or after 1 January 2012 are not valid for this contest
 • The administrative team retains all rights to the final decision
 • Spamming the member lists will not get you a free account, kudos, or a puppy. It will make us sad.

Below is an advertisement that you're welcome to post if you're a member of another board:

THREE YEARS AFTER the joint murders of two of Hogwarts' brightest students, two are presumed dead, one is very much alive. While the arrest of suspect Damien Andrada put some minds to rest, the respite was only temporary as Andrada has recently been released under mysterious circumstances and is now living amongst the general populace.

RIOTS AND DISCORD has clouded many key social groups with concern over the current Minister of Magic and her cabinet. Accusations have flown from both ends of the spectrum for the recent attacks on Hogwarts, and no one can decide if Hogwarts is the safest place on Earth, or a ticking time bomb.

A NEW MINISTRY takes the stage as the Wizengamot elects a new Minister of Magic as well as several unknown names for his cabinet. Policy changes are on the horizon for both the Wizarding World and Hogwarts alike, with some students electing to stay abroad at Salem Institute or Beauxbatons Academy.

BACK AT THE RANCH, students and adults alike are preparing for summer. For some, this means traveling abroad or visiting their parents -- for others, the summer campus has opened. There are reminders of instability everywhere, though, from Aurors patrolling the summer campus to random Veritaserum screenings.

term begins 01 January 2012.

About us

Hogwarts School is one of the oldest Harry Potter RPGs still alive today. Started in 2000, we offer inter-house Quidditch matches, dueling tournaments, and writing-based classes as well as full-scale magical skill system. Our administrative team is active, and there is a formal ball held every term or other large-scale event.

We also foster two smaller sister-schools to Hogwarts, Salem Institute and Beauxbatons Academy, for players who already have a character at Hogwarts School.

During the summer, the castle closes and the players move to the Summer Campus, a small summer camp on the other side of the lake. We offer chatrooms (not to be confused with chatboxes) on all of our boards, and we encourage OOC participation in plots! Currently, our active member base around 80 players, and we're always looking for more. Check us out!

1972 / Player of the Week: Aiden Hazard!
« on: 12/16/2011 at 19:45 »

Player of the Week (or PotW) is a weekly feature we've implemented each summer to introduce some of the newest players to our Hoggies community. We've had such an influx of great, exciting members that the Mod Squad and I wanted to acknowledge some of them, and bring them to your attention if you haven't met them yet! We took a moment to ask Aiden Hazard a few questions about life, Harry Potter, and adjusting to Hoggies (not to mention chat shenanigans).

FROM THE MOD SQUAD:
Quote
Nearly every day I log in, I see Aiden's username splayed down the Lastest Posts list because he is a madman! He's in half a dozen threads and has already become a super active character on the site. On top of blitzing the Plot Pages forums with posts from both Aiden and Eleanor, he's even opened on a gorgeous avatar shoppe for players to make requests. Willing to plot and a posting champ, he's ready and willing to get knee-deep in the site and to hell with the rest.

She's so friendly and nice, and has jumped into graphic making too which I'm always happy to see.

Aiden is a really active player and puts in a lot of time into developing Aiden and Eleanor, both of whom have distinctive traits. She's very passionate about posting and getting to know new friends on the site!

What shall we call you? Do you have any favorite nicknames?
Hello everyone!  I'm Carmen, currently residing in sunny Singapore! Yesh, I'm Chinese, but Singapore's not in China - on a side note, I grew up in Arizona, though! Also, I'm a female playing the very male Aiden! (Just to be clear, heh!)

I have a friend who calls me Karmygummayenana for some reason, and although the name makes me cringe in fear, as well as goosebumps to break out on my skin - well, if you wish to, I'm fine with people calling me that!

My classmates call me Lumpy, which is probably by far the oddest - but also the most unique - nickname ever - it's a play on my asian surname (Lum).

How did you find Hogwarts School?
Ah, the very lovely typist behind Scott Cooper and Maverick Steele, Rachel, introduced me to this place!  OOCly, we're classmates and recently discovered that the both of us love to RP! It did result in quite a lot of excited screaming. (Well... screaming on my part. Screaming isn't quite her thing. But she was excited too!)

What made you decide to join?
Honestly, I've always had this thing for RP.  It's almost like a guilty pleasure, even. I've been RPing in Harry Potter sims in the virtual world Second Life for close to a year and a half now, and had my fair share of disasters - terrible initial characters *cringes at the thought of her first ever RP character*, being online at a time where no one else was due to my timezone, etc etc!

But really, the sole force that drove me to join really was dear old Rachypoo. (She's going to kill me for calling her that, by the way.) I was a little hesitant to join a forum as I was a complete forums-idiot, I had no idea how threads worked, and how everyone kept up with all their threads! I also didn't quite understand how RP could work when you don't have an avatar representing your character in front of you on your screen. But Rach explained face claims, and Quidditch... and I took to the idea quite well!

Also, Rachel kind of challenged me to play a male character... Challenge accepted. >D

Which book is your favorite in the series?
Ah, Hoggies... Why do you torture me so by making me choose? :c Hmm... That's a tough one, but I'd have to go with the Goblet of Fire.

Y'know, I had this issue where I was younger, where I was so amazed by fictional series-es (is that the plural of series?) that I'd fantasize about flying, or performing magic and the like. The message really hit home when Ron and Harry sort of fell out when Harry's name appeared in the goblet cause of Ron's lack of faith in Harry.

It was just so human, and so close to home because I felt that that sort of situation happened in all our lives. JK Rowling really struck that chord with me then, because she managed to engage with a reader, and I felt that wow, this author really is amazing.

Who is your favorite character from the books?
Rach will completely roll her eyes at this, but I absolutely adore Draco Malfoy. Some of the others close on the list include Harry, and Sirius, and Lupin... But if I really had to choose, Draco Malfoy would win hands-down.

First of all, although this might make Rach hit her head with her pencilcase like how she did last year, Draco Malfoy's kind of a bad boy. That smirk. That swag. And he's blonde. And honestly, I for some reason have got this thing for blonde bad boys. Even better if they ride a motorcycle. (Case in point - Cloud Strife.)

But on a different level, Draco Malfoy's entire character development really just blew my mind. It was one of the only things besides the entire concept of a magical Potterverse that really drew me to the series and made me adore JK Rowling. I loved how Draco was (*corrects herself: is! *) such a 3D character. I love how JK Rowling wrote him to be an obnoxious brat, but with his own fears, and his own insecurities. And I was so amazed by how Draco evolved over the years! The way he grew less childish and older. Even more so was how he, a rich coward, turned out to have some redeeming quality in him at the end, even though he had done so much evil before that. Maybe everyone really does have some good to them! It was so incredibly... human. <3

I've always secretly envied JK Rowling's ability to make a character like Draco, and he's been my "model essay" in creating my own RP characters, too! I'll always love that twitchy little ferret!♥

Who are you most excited to RP with, that you haven't yet?
Honestly, I have quite a few people on the list right now!  But if I had to choose just one, I think it'll have to be Lysander Ellwood-Luxe. Oh sorry... I meant god.

I've seen quite a few of his threads lying around, and goodness I was amazed by his RP style and the ideas he comes up with! Also, maybe Aiden needs someone to bully him, whether because of his eye colour or otherwise, and shake him up a little.

I haven't gotten the chance to speak to Lysander properly about possible threads yet (still drowning in threads for Eleanor, too!) but I hope the chance comes really really soon!

What is one thread that everyone should read this very instant? Why?
Everyone needs to read thisssss! http://hogwarts-school.net/elsewhere/index.php?topic=18.0

It's a thread at Beauxbatons, between Lucretius Chaucer and Landon A. Beauchamp! I stumbled upon it by accident, honestly - back then, I had just started, and had no idea that an Elsewhere section existed. Goodness, nooby me - but I was blown away!

The whole thread is really well-written, the two of them are amazing RPers! I'm not exactly one of those teenage girls who squeals over every couple in every movie, but I guess it turns out I do have a soft spot somewhere for a certain sort of romance, with swooning and all those other emotions, that were displayed in that thread.  I'm sorry, I can't seem to put a finger on what exactly about the romance caught my attention, but it did! ^^;

What really stood out, to me, was the way they wrote the RP more like a novel rather then just a recount of incidents happening to their character. It's something that I've always wanted to do and still can't do, and it's making me jealous!

Go read it, go go go!

What is one thing about Aiden that no one knows?
Aiden... can somewhat be considered a hopeless romantic.

What is one thing about Aiden that everyone should know?
Besides the fact he has heterochromia, Aiden has a long-term injury, as a result of a previous Quidditch match. Although he won't ever admit it, he's a little sore that he has to be kept off the pitch because he was unlucky enough to have a bad hip. He had been caught in the ribs by a bludger, thrown off his Hawk, into a nearby pillar, before falling some hundred feet to the ground. The Headmaster slowed his fall towards the end, but he happened to land badly.

Probably the only sign of his continuous love for the sport is the fact he drags his broom around up till today, even though he can't play.

What are you most excited about for term?
School dramaaa! <3 I can't wait for the crowded hallways, and all the creative plotlines that will surface in the castle, together with all the different personalities that Aiden will have to deal with! I'm quite particularly interested in what will occur in common room threads... In Second Life, we never ever use the common rooms for RP!

Any last words?
Yes, Rachypoo, today I thank you personally on here for introducing me to this incredible place!♥

I just really wanted to express how amazed I am by the community here. When I joined, I honestly didn't expect to stay long due to busy schedules and everything, but now, I find myself checking threads on my phone while travelling, and thinking up possible plotlines in my free time! I enjoy making all your avs too, so really, if anyone wants a new av, PM meee!

I just really got so much more than I joined this forum for, and I really wanna thank every one of you for that experience!  I hope I can give back to everyone as much as you guys have been giving me! You guys are really too sweet, I love you all - Live long and prosper. ♥

1972 / Player of the Week: Ember Harlow!

I've really enjoyed reading her posts, and already have a nice feel for the sort of person that Ember is. I look forward to reading more about her over the rest of the term! Insider tip, Ember - keep an eye out for the summer workshops, which are great ways to develop characters both for new and old players!

What shall we call you? Do you have any favourite nicknames?
Hello everyone, this is rather exciting and I'm so thankful for being picked for this .. Award? Can it be called an award, well I shall do, I don't usually get picked for awards! They call me Chinyere and many people think I'm Asian but I'm not haha. I was born and raised in England though my mother is African so I guess that's where my name is from. I have a couple of nicknames but I'm usually called Chi of Chi-Chi.

How did you find Hoggies?
My older sister who plays the character Penny Tibideaux has been on it for about a term and when she'd let me (you know how sisters are) I sat with her to watch how the site worked. It looked like a really nice community so I decided to join and have a go myself and here we are now!

Which book is your favourite in the series?
Hmm, I have to say the third one! Sirius is by far one of my favourite characters as well as Draco and Snape. It's when you start really learning about the rules of magic and how when used correctly it can be so useful, like the time turner. I've always wanted my own time turner as well as many other magical items! In movies I'd have to say the sixth, but that's only because Tom Felton looks absolutely beautiful playing Draco.

Who is your favourite character from the books?
My favourite of all favourite characters is our dearly beloved Severus Snape or as he is also known, The Half Blood Prince. I have to say I loved dark Snape and enjoyed thinking he was plotting to get rid of Harry with Voldemort. For some reason, I never really liked Harry much and he was the main character! Finding out Snape had been good all along kind of shocked me at first but it made me see what a fantastic writer Rowling really is. Managing to keep us from guessing her plot ideas for six whole books for a writer I'd say is a big achievement because usually I managed to guess the plot early on which makes the book kind of boring after a while.

Who are you most excited to RP with, that you haven't yet?
Well, Charlotte Tallis and I have a little plan coming together which I'm excited to get started on. I've seen Charlotte RPing a bit around The Hangout and she looks like the sort of person Ember would have fun annoying with her easily excitable and childish ways.

What is one thread that everyone should read this very instant? Why?
Being the sort of person to snoop around all the other threads when I have nothing else to do I stumbled across the thread 'Cruel Intentions' with Eve Hallows and Lysander Ellwood-Luxe. It was so intense just reading it they're both such big characters and just reading it left me at the edge of my seat like, what is going to happen!? It's a seriously good read and I'm dying to know if they decide to give in to their under lying feelings. Maybe it's just me but I see a little bit of attraction between them.

What is one thing about Ember that no one knows?
Ember may seem like a really happy person all the time and that nothing gets her down but she's actually really insecure and covers it up by being overly happy all the time. She may not act like it but if you say something to her she may take it to heart and you'd never know. She finds it hard to express her true feelings and I don't think she really realises that in the long run she may not be able to carry all her worries on her own. She'll have to break sometime, but when and to who that's the question!

What are you most excited about for term?
Classes! Ember is eager to learn everything there is to know in a classroom environment. Coming from being home schooled she wants to see how it differs from at home. Also, she's never experienced school rules or professors so that will be a new for her.

Any last words?
Thank you again for picking me for this I really appreciate it. I hope to RP with many more of you over my time here. It's lovely to have met the people I have so far and it's so much fun, it really is a lovely community. Feel free to RP with Ember, she may be crazy but she doesn't bite!

1972 / Administrative Changes
« on: 12/05/2011 at 04:43 »
Hello lovelies! Happy Monday to you.

While we're just getting into the swing of things for the summer (and the new site - yay new site!), I wanted to alert you of some changes on the administrative side. We're doing a bit of an electric slide with the houses, and all of you are getting new house heads.

Yes. All of you. It just worked out like that. ;)

We are saying goodbye to one of our administrators, and we ask that you wish her well when you see her as we're all very sad about the loss. Rhoswen Hardwick has decided to take a backseat and return to writing more on the site, a decision which comes at a loss for us, but will (in my humble opinion) be a huge gain for the site to have her writing with everyone.

From here on out, the new administrative team is as follows:

Headmaster
Professor Tibble

Deputy Headmistress
Elizabeth Birch-Hurst

Keeper of the Keys
Marguerite Reine (NPC)

Head of Gryffindor
Timothy Vartan, M.D.

Head of Hufflepuff
William Lancaster, MFA

Head of Ravenclaw
Esme Faracy, PhD

Head of Slytherin
Anneka Ivanova, Esq.

Note, the titles after our names are just for laughs.

If you have a question relating to a plot or something about your character, you must talk to your house head. Approaching another administrator will simply get you referred back to your house head, unless the matter is an OOC rule violation or something dire. In that case, we're all ears. But otherwise, we really implore you to communicate with your house head (or Elizabeth Birch-Hurst, if you are a professor/Professor Tibble if you are a graduate, shopkeeper, et al), as we try to keep the request load spread evenly amongst our team and your house head likely knows your character best out of all of us.

If you have not been sorted yet, feel free to approach any of us. :)

Thanks everyone! Enjoy your week.

Announcements, Announcements, Announcements

Security updates!
The chatroom is only open to characters actively writing at our site. You must register to join our chat.

Paging All Residents!
Check out the General OOC if your character plans to stay at the Hangout for the summer (and if they have anyone that they would like to live with!).

Going Out?
The little Hangout town (between the Hangout and Hogsmeade) is home to all sorts of small businesses.

1972 / hello pretties.
« on: 12/01/2011 at 16:23 »

Basically anything that William Lancaster says is true for me. That in mind, we'll keep this short.

I'm Amy, and I'm 22 years old. I just graduated from university with a couple of degrees and a lot of t-shirts. Outside of Hoggies, I'm a graphic designer with a publishing company, and I've recently taken an interest in power tools as I DIY my way into a new apartment. I have a blog about it! It's nerdy. It keeps me happy. These are all good things.

I've been on the site since I was 13. It's not nearly as long as it sounds, because I took two pretty large breaks, the most recent in the middle of university to do all those collegiate things like unpaid internships and eating ramen. I came back in December '09, and I've been here ever since. I'm the (second) newest member of the site administration team, though I've been on the Summer administration team for ages. I do all the designs for the boards, which means that things occasionally get very pink and full of kittens, and if something breaks, I'm probably the girl to talk to.

My main characters have been:

Esme Vartan Charms professor, Keeper of the Keys, and the constantly annoyed wife of Timothy Vartan. Esme was a Ravenclaw and Head Girl during her time at Hogwarts, and recently miscarried her baby in a sick twist of events relating to Supra Mortalitas (I'm looking at you, Spency). I'm not certain if she'll return to the Castle next term or if she's got other plans. I'm enjoying being indecisive.

Ellerie SA! If you see a blonde girl around here with a french last name and a penchant to die, it's probably one of mine. Ellerie's the latest in this set, and she's... sixteen. Old. She's one of the Beauxbatons girls you'll see floating around the site, and her daddy was just made the British Minister of Magic which meeeans she might be coming back to Hogwarts, but probably not. I haven't decided, but most of my castle students tend to be unloved and abandoned.

Georgia Darcy Former Keeper of the Keys and certainly the craziest lady around, Georgia was the necromancy professor, the temporary Slytherin House Head (she decorated their common room with pillows embroidered with kittens. they loved it), and the latest resident of Azkaban.

(I know I copied my intro from last term. Don't judge me.)
