I'll teach you what you want to know, but at the end of the day the only person who's opinion you should worry about is your own.

Such innocence was a little astounding to Rome. It didn't stop him from chuckling when she told him 'crap' was the worst she'd ever said, but it did make him think. He couldn't remember the last time he'd been that innocent. Hell, he wasn't sure he'd ever been that innocent. Not since before he was twelve, at least.

"Say 'shit' for me," he coaxed as he stopped their trek near the base of the skull formation and pulled himself up onto a rock. "Go on, I know you can do it."

He offered her a hand up if she wanted to join him on the rock. He tilted his head back to peer up at the architecture of the rocks. It appealed slightly to his artistic side. The dark caverns that made up the eyes, the possibilities of what could lie within those pits. There were all those rumours and 'sightings'.

Turning back to Olette he pulled his cigarettes out from his t-shirt pocket and lit one up, placing it between his lips. He shook the pack at her in silent offer but then he turned it away from her, squinting down at her. If she'd never even cursed...

"You've never had a cigarette, have you?"

Late July

Swimming for the last hour had been a nice way to cool down while still building his endurance after rock climbing earlier that morning. That was strenuous work and not something he wanted to do in the middle of the day. It was hard enough doing it free-hand without access to the Muggle gym and its equipment. Rome didn't need to risk heat stroke to get exercise. That would defeat the purpose of staying in shape.

The swim ended up being a little more relaxing that he thought it would, with his sore arms and back. It was what he'd expected this summer to be without going home in between school and camp: relaxing and fun. Things weren't quite turning out that way. Sia accusing him of cheating when they weren't even dating had checked his fun before it had even begun. She was still being a little distant but it wasn't like he was an open book so he couldn't really hold that against her.

So the cool water had felt particularly good and Rome was pretty relaxed (or as relaxed as he ever got) when he finally emerged from the water onto the beach. He swiped a hand through his hair and then down his face to shake off excess water as small rivers of it ran down his bare chest and his camo-patterned shorts before it darkened the sand around his feet. After most of the water had been dispelled, Rome walked another few feet away from the tide lapping against the shore. He reached the area he'd left his sunglasses and towel but he ignored the towel as he dropped to the ground and laid out on his back, grains of sand sticking to his wet skin.

As the aviators were slipped over his eyes he called nonchalantly, "I know someone's there. Might as well come and enjoy the beach. I don't bite unless provoked."

He thought about this a moment as he rested a hand on his chest and the other beneath his head before adding, "Or unless asked."

"Yes, Diabla. This is a known fact about me."

He'd been called much worse. By her. Hell, by himself. It was one of the side effects of having a personality that ran from one extreme to the other.

There was a prickling along his skin, a sense that she was looking at him. Why he didn't lift his gaze to meet hers, he wasn't exactly sure. Guilt about his lie flashing in his eyes or renewed coldness in hers. Coming here was supposed to be a peace offering and he wasn't ready to ruin that just yet.

Luckily he had the world's tiniest paint brush to keep him occupied. He'd never painted anything so small as a nail and he was pretty sure Sia had some of the smallest hands he'd ever seen or maybe that was just a result of having a six foot-five frame. It wasn't like he studied hands all that often. Maybe hers were average.

He scoffed at her warning. "I'm pretty sure I'm the better painter of the two of us. I just have to adjust my technique to a much smaller canvas."

The brush was bobbed up and down a few times in the bottle before he removed it and several large globs quickly fell from the end and into the grass. Christ. That amount would cover all ten of her nails. Mouth thinning and eyebrows furrowing in annoyance, Rome put the brush back into the bottle and tried again. This time he slid the wand and bristles along the top of the bottle as he removed it.

"Ah, much better." With eyebrows still furrowed, this time in concentration, and his bottom lip pulled between his teeth, Rome aimed for her first finger. It was an easier angle than her thumb to get used to the motion. He slid the brush gently from the base of her nail to the top, the side of his hand lightly touching her other fingers as he went.

He stopped to gauge his work for a moment, his head tilted to the side as he studied it. "Why this colour?"

This pic is a couple years old but it was super amusing that they had to wear cones of shame at the same time.

Hi! I'm Kristyl and I joined this site in July of 2011, just after the final HP movie because I still needed Harry Potter in my life.

So I don't have much of a life. I work too much; like 50-60 hours a week. But that's cool, I like hanging out with my two dogs and four cats more than doing most other things anyway.

Here, have a list:

  • I'm a Libra Sun, Aries Moon and Scorpio rising
  • I got my first (and only, currently) tattoo and saw my favorite band (The Spill Canvas) on my birthday on 10/10/10
  • I have two different colored eyes. One brown and one blue/green. They only put brown on my driver's license
  • I'm from Wisconsin and, as you can see from the picture above, a life-long Packers fan.
  • Disney is life
  • So are sparkles
  • I like nature shows but I hate, hate, hate watching animals kill each other even though I know it's for survival.
  • I love music and spotify has been amazing for discovering new things. I'm always willing to listen to anything at least once
  • I'm a Stargaryen and a Huffledor so in an epic battle I'd probably die but I'd go down fighting?
  • I still watch cheesy high school romantic comedy type movies but mostly just when I'm bored
  • Some addictions I have are: mountain dew, chocolate and thai food.

Here, have some tv shows:

  • Game of Thrones
  • Supernatural
  • Grey's Anatomy
  • Arrow
  • Reign
  • Gotham
  • Criminal Minds
  • Stranger Things
  • The Last Kingdom
  • Outlander
  • Probably some others...
  • There's probably a list in my head twice as long of shows I wanna check out

Here, have my characters (or the most played ones):

My Babies

Romero Hunt
17 | Slytherin | Halfblood

Rome only looks out for number one (himself). He's got more than just a few trust issues and more than just a few vices to deal with all those issues. Doesn't really care for magic, he rarely ever uses his wand. Mostly he's just trying to keep putting one foot in front of the other until he graduates.

Laurel Douglass
12 | Hufflepuff | Halfblood

Everyone's best friend (they just don't know it yet!), Laurel is warm like the sun and colorful like the rainbows she loves. She is very kind with a sensitive soul truly loves everything unless they give her a reason not to. There is a fierceness to her that doesn't show itself often but don't think she'd be so easily manipulated just because she's nice.

Felicity WildingAlricsson
18 | Gryffindor | Pureblood

Hogwarts did not go as Felicity had planned. She likes learning but she doesn't like staying in one place for too long and so academics were not quite what she hoped they'd be. But something else even more unexpected happened at Hogwarts: she found out that there really is such a thing as love and she found it. Now she's married and figuring out what comes next!

Coming soon to an elsewhere near you!

Zavier Archeron
10 | A king with no crown | Pureblood

This kid likes music, his best friends and almost nothing else. Enjoy!

This barely covers my character list but that might be getting trimmed soon. Still, if any of my kids catch your eye let me know! ♥♥

"Christ. Think I've gone temporarily deaf now, thanks."

Rome pushed his palms against his ears, rubbing circles to clear the ringing shriek from his eardrums. The first two fingers of his right hand held his cigarette away from his hair. He might need a haircut but even Rome had limits to the things he was willing to do and lighting his hair on fire to shorten it was one such limit.

"You good?"

One side of his mouth quirked up. "Sure, let's go with that." His eyes flitted over to the blonde. "You?"

It was a strange question. He wasn't even sure if he cared but he supposed it didn't hurt to at least ask. He leaned back against the tree where he'd been before this girl had decided to alert the entire forest to her presence. Oh, wait, was that his fault? Was he supposed to apologise for scaring her? He shrugged in response to his thoughts and looked back out into the forest, narrowing his eyes into the growing dark.

The howls coming from deeper in the woods had even Rome wondering what was wrong with the adults in charge of this place. Even if there were no werewolves or wolves and there was just some sort of magic sounding through the forest to make it seem like there might be felt a bit insensitive and Rome did not do sensitivity so something clearly had to be wrong here. It'd barely been a year ago when the werewolf attack at Hogwarts happened. He wasn't sure if Artie was at camp this Summer but didn't the camp director think this might cause flashbacks for those involved in that attack? Maybe he'd try and find Artie and some point, see if she was here and doing okay, but that was about the extent of his concern. He hadn't chosen the setting.

"So. Kissed any other sisters of your girlfriends lately?"

The times Rome had lied in his life could probably be counted on one hand. Hiding the truth was too much work, took too much effort, when one didn't care about the results or consequences of telling the truth. He couldn't remember an occasion where he'd been compelled to spare someone's feelings by telling them what some called 'white lies'. He didn't care enough about what people thought of him to not be truthful about who he was. There were things he wouldn't tell other people but he straight out told them that and if they didn't like that, it was their problem.

He'd flat-out lied to Athanasia a couple days ago.

Unsure of when the moment occurred exactly, there was suddenly a person in his life with the power to hurt him and she had. They weren't dating, they were barely friends, but when she'd just assumed that he'd snog one of the people she hated the most (even if that girl was a friend of his), it had felt like a sharp, unprotected jab to his gut.

So he'd lied to hurt her back.

That lie had left a different sensation in his gut and he didn't like it. He didn't like feeling and he wanted it to stop. Now. Except he wasn't sure the snake in him knew how to form the words 'I'm sorry' out loud. It might just be easier to tell her he lied than to apologise for that lie hurting her.

He huffed out a breath, a hand running through his hair and grasping some of the strands tightly as he stomped along in his boots, on the lookout for the girl spending too much time in his thoughts. When he finally found he stopped near her, his shadow falling over her for a moment before he dropped to the ground in front of her. His legs spread out, encompassing hers. He bent his knees and scooted in closer to her.

He eyed the bottle in her tiny hand before he reached out and took it from her, his hand seeming to swallow the bottle up. "Are you sure you're qualified to handle such a delicate paint brush?"

He tapped his first two fingers against his raised knee, indicating she should place her hand there.

"What did you just say?"

All he could do was stand there and stare at her, his body stiff and his face flitting through several expressions. First was shock: that was the assumption she jumped to because he hadn't spoken to her in little over a week? That was what he did because it was a girl he'd spent time with? Next, and most brief, was hurt: this is what she really thought of him, that he was the type of person to kiss one of the people she disliked most in the world. After the hurt passed he pushed any other weak emotions away, letting his face hardened into stone and his eyes turn to ice.

He straightened to his full height, shaking off the weight her lack of faith had set on his shoulders, looked her straight in the eye and said, "You think I came here out of guilt? No, no, no. I came to tell you how much of a better kisser she is than you. Thought you might want to work on that."

And then he turned and disappeared into the night.

He didn't need this shit.

"I don't need this shit," he told her, pushing away from the door and taking several steps backward. It was a mistake to come here and one he was attempting to rectify by turning around and disappearing into the night, except she kept talking.

He turned back to face her. "Right. She's reckless, I'm reckless so at least I know I'll always have fun with her. I never know which personality of yours I'm going to get."

His boots stomped back across the surface of the cabin's porch, still maintaining more distance than he previously had. "I don't know where you get off accusing me of whatever the hell it is you think I did. It's not like you've tried to keep in touch. I made more of an effort coming here to see you tonight than you have since before we left school."

"Are you talking about Princesa?" He shook his head at the nickname. "I mean, Pilar?"

He knew the two Slytherin girls didn't get along, to put it mildly, still, he didn't think the situation warranted such an extreme reaction. Pilar was one of the few people he could tolerate, she didn't force her way into his business. Did Sia expect him to not speak to anyone, ever?

"I wasn't returning to my shitty home, I ran into her in Knockturn, we spent some time together." He shrugged and settled back into a somewhat relaxed stance. "Is that a problem? You're not...jealous, are you?"

A smile began to grow, yet just as quickly the smug, upward tilt was killed as dark tendrils entered his thoughts as they often did whenever he felt his confidence growing. From arrogant to self-hatred in three seconds. His brain couldn't let him free for too long.

His eyes grew cold as he glared down at her. "What's bothering you more, Athanasia? That it was Pilar I was spending time with or the fact there's women out there who aren't ashamed to be seen with me?"

to burn away all the words we wanna say
Rome has a dark past. A past dark enough that the one person he's told (his father) doesn't believe him. He's learned to survive through his various vices: mostly smoking and fighting. Sometimes he filters his anger and bitterness into healthier mediums: art and playing the piano. He was sorted into Slytherin when he came to Hogwarts after leaving Spain halfway through his fifth year. He's probably made more enemies than acquaintances in that time but he doesn't do friends anyway. Just people who are okay hanging out with him without prying into his business. He might just be about to learn why he doesn't trust people all over again...

Some key traits:
-Smokes (and swears) a lot
-Chaotic neutral

A week into camp
Shortly before noon

After a morning of running laps around the black lagoon and some climbing mountains on the other side of camp, Rome had returned to the black lagoon to check out the island. In a magical camp for kids there wasn't much in the way of strength training opportunities so he was checking out all the different areas to see what they had to offer. The rock formation on the island presented another climbing possibility but the mountains would be the best for that.

It wasn't quite the same as lifting weights but he was at least suspending his own body weight by his arms as he climbed so it was something, at least. His match was still a few months away but allowing nearly two months of that to go by with minimal exercise would be a sure way to lose. He might have told Sia he lost some fights on purpose, this was not one of them. This one would be for some money and he needed that.

Somewhere along the way of exploring the island he'd found himself with some company. One Olette of The Really Long Name had shown up and she was better company than most so Rome didn't try to lose her at the first chance. The girl was on the quiet side, pleasant, when compared to Sia's attitude. And she didn't give a shit about who saw them together.

That thought brought a wry smile to his lips. "Have you ever cursed? In your entire life?"
