Biography: (300 words minimum.)
If asked, Orin Daly would have defined himself by three qualities: his patience, willingness to work hard and his keen sense of observation.

Orin was born into a life of privilege in Arranmore, County Donegal. His pureblood relations, hailing from a lesser known, Irish family distinguished themselves primarily through their wealth rather than a true belief in any ideology. The Daly family has been involved in the procurement of magical ingredients for generations and was historically linked to the Department of Mysterious as a purveyor of time turner sand.

Orin’s father, Darragh, an Unspeakable in a long line of Unspeakables, was of a stern and taciturn disposition and married his mother, a Swiss diplomat and financier, mostly for the sake of combining and strengthening their respective family businesses. Their relationship was marked by respectful intellectual discourse but lacked in warmth and affection.

Orin and his younger sister Eavan grew up to be extremely close, even for siblings. This was likely owed to the remote location of their family home in Arranmore and their relative social isolation growing up. Both Orin and his sister were home-schooled from an early age, learning about magical subjects, particularly in the areas of potions, herbology and arithmancy.

When of age, Orin attended Ellebart Dark Academy in Switzerland following in the footsteps of his mother. He originally struggled transferring into a German-speaking environment that seemed to be more geared towards female students rather than males, but he eventually grew used to it and even came to appreciate it. Ellebart put their educational focus on charms and Orin quickly proved himself as adept at the subject.

The defining moment of Orin’s childhood took place when Orin was 15 years old in 1974/ 1936. He was at home in Arranmore for his Christmas holidays when Eavan discovered a bucket of time turner sand in their father’s study. An accident occurred, which lead to Eavan travelling back in time for a couple of hours and meeting herself in the past.

Their father eventually managed to help Eavan return to the present with some equipment pilfered from the Department of Mysteries, but her mind had sustained serious damage due to the uncontrolled nature of the time travel. Eavan was left in a state requiring constant care and supervision.

To make matters worse, his father Darragh was stripped of his rank as an Unspeakable and sentenced to serve a 35-year term in Azkaban for negligence, reckless endangerment and abuse of his position at the Department of Mysteries.

This meant Orin had not only lost a sibling but also a parent. Most of Orin’s memories of the next year revolve around visiting specialists to help Eavan and trying to help taking care of his sister.

Orin returned to Ellebart belated in spring, utterly convinced he had a special, mental link with his sister applied himself to the study of charms and divination. He developed a remarkably close relationship with one of the teachers at Ellebart, Professor Helene von Wittgenstein, and the two are close friends to this day.

Orin studied some Occlumency and the beginnings of Legillimency under von Wittgenstein, which he soon realised were abilities that might help with correcting his sisters’ condition in the long run. It didn’t take long for Orin to understand his own future path and that he felt strongly about becoming a healer.

When Orin graduated from Ellebart and took an apprenticeship at a French-Canadian hospital. During his study of memory charms and the spell damage that can be caused by them he noticed that his own memory of certain events, and his father, seemed to have unusually foggy characteristics. This left him to wonder if this circumstance was caused by the trauma of his childhood or something else.

After several years in Canada, Orin worked in France for a short period of time during the early years of the Hexenreich. He returned to his native Ireland in 1947 as a fully qualified healer.

A year later he established his private clinic in Knockturn Alley where he has been treating patients since.

In his personal life Orin was free and unattached for most of his life. While attracted to women, he found it difficult to commit to any long term relationship.

In recent years Orin spent his time on independent research alongside treating patients. He was convinced there is a strange trend of people with blurred and vague memories for no logical reason. However, the situation has defied any attempt of his to even make the slightest sense of it.

Option Two -
The snow had been falling steadily all morning and it didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon. Joshua Campbell scrunched his face up in a frown as he lifted his gaze to look to the sky. Snow. It really was quite a bother.

And it certainly didn't make it better that Diagon Alley seemed to be getting more and more crowded. Joshua sighed and pointed his wand at the large box that was currently placed on the doorstep of his shop. He had to get going. He had an order to deliver.

"Wingardium Leviosa!" The elderly man muttered and watched the box hover in the air for a moment. Honestly, did St. Mungo's really need that much tinsel? And with glitter of all things? He sighed again. If it hadn't been for the rather convincing stamp on the order, he would have been likely to believe it had been a prank by one of those orphaned rascals living up there.

Oh well, there was no point in waiting. Joshua deftly stirred the box down the doorstep and out onto the street, carefully levitating it above the heads of the crowd.

"Coming through! Coming through!" His voice sounded over the chatter of the crowd. "Keep out! Move ahead! Go on!" This was going way too slow. People were in the way and walking like they had all day! He huffed. Luckily the road was down hill.

"Coming through! Coming th--- arrrgh!" Joshua let out a loud shout as his feet suddenly slipped in the snow and sent him, the box, and several long strands of tinsel tumbling into the person who had been walking in front of him.

"For Merlin's sake!" Joshua muttered angrily as he hurried to his feet again, red and gold tinsel now decorating his black coat. "I am so sorry! This blasted snow!" He looked apologetic at the person he had crashed into.

Roleplay Response:
He loved snow. There was something about winter in London that always put Orin into better spirits. He felt more energetic than he had in a while. He was on his way to his practice in Knockturn alley when suddenly a couple of strands of tinsel floated into his vision. A stranger quickly followed the colourful ornaments offering up a contrite apology.

”Gabh mo leithscéal,” Orin muttered, momentarily unaware that his response was probably of limited usefulness to the stranger.

“I’m sorry,” Orin corrected after a moment of delay. “I should have paid better attention where I was going.”

He gingerly removed a golden piece of tinsel from his messy, dark brown hair and held it out in front of him for the stranger to take.

“I believe, this is yours,” he stated the obvious, a wry smile starting the play around the corner of his lips.
