→ CHARACTER INFORMATION.

Name: Gianna Galbreath

Birthday: July 18, 1949

Hometown: Edinburgh, Scotland

Bloodline:
Halfblood

Magical Strength (pick one):
Divination

Magical Weakness (pick one):
 Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two):
First, second

Biography:
Gianna Galbreath was born on July 18, 1949, to William and Maria Galbreath. She has one older brother, Jameson, with whom she constantly competes, although she does so because she truly does look up to him and wants to be like him however she can. While the Galbreaths are not what you'd consider extremely wealthy, they can be considered to be upper middle-class. The Galbreaths tried their best to give their children a happy and peaceful childhood, showering both with love and affection.

While Jameson showed signs of magic at the relatively early age of six, Gianna never showed any until she was nine. Her parents were worried that she might very well be a Squib, but one day after her ninth birthday, she sat beside her father on the overstuffed couch in her family's living room and patted his head, turning his dark brown hair a violent shade of purple. William Galbreath was so pleased that he rushed out and bought his daughter a necklace on which there hung a small dragon's tooth. To this day, Gianna still wears this necklace.

House Request:
The Sorting Hat knows best.

Personality:
Gianna Galbreath, as most people know, will never be known for standing back in other people's shadows. Indeed, from the time her brother Jameson started at Hogwarts four years earlier, she has refused to let him dominate any conversations about his time at school, constantly interrupting to announce her own intentions to best him in whatever he did well at. Unfortunately for her, this will not include playing Quidditch, as Gianna lacks any sort of athletic ability whatsoever.

Nevertheless, Gianna is a very well-adjusted young girl and can adapt to just about any situation which might come her way...well, except for thunderstorms. She absolutely cannot stand thunder and lightning, and has been known to hide under her bed at times whenever a storm pops up. She is very observant, and very blunt as well, which can sometimes get her into trouble.

For fun, Gianna enjoys collecting rocks and sea shells, two hobbies she got into because of Jameson. She is also an avid fan of sharks, in particular the great white shark and the megalodon, and constantly hopes that--despite the fact that the megalodon is extinct--someone somewhere will prove that this ancient shark is not quite gone yet.

Appearance:
Gianna is 4'8" and unusually large-boned (not fat) for someone her age. She has shoulder-length brown hair, fair skin, and straight, even white teeth. Gianna also has dimples on both cheeks, which she absolutely hates and wishes she had some sort of potion or charm which would make them disappear. Her eyes are blue and are framed by long lashes; she considers her eyes to be her best feature, and as such does much in the way of looking at people with wide eyes whenever she wants her way in something.

→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
You come across one of these posts on the site. Please select one & reply as your character. Remember, you can only roleplay your own character's actions, not Evangeline's or Hugh's.

Option I:

The dungeons. A place eleven-year-old Evangeline had not yet travelled since her arrival at Hogwarts.

A place she really was just fine with not knowing; but it was too late. The dare had been accepted, even if it had been done in fear of being kicked out of Gryffindor, like the older girls had said she would because Gryffindors were supposed to be brave.

The air changed instantly when she hit the main corridor of the dungeons. The dampness was almost too much for her and she instinctively took a deep breath to avoid the sensation of being suffocated. There was also a sour burning smell which Evangeline assumed was from many, many Potions lessons.

Further and further she walked, her steps so slow and gentle they made no noise against the stone walls and floor. The feeling that she wasn't alone crept up her spine and raised the tiny hair on the back of her neck. Shivering, Evangeline wrapped her arms around herself. Suddenly, she missed the warmth and comfort of the Gryffindor common room. The fire was always going and it made her feel at ease.

Why had she let those girls talk her into this? She was only eleven, she didn't have to be brave. Surely the Headmistress would not kick her out of Hogwarts for not being brave.

If only she had these thoughts while being dared to search for the ghost of one Emma Birch, whom supposedly haunted the dungeons. It was not, Evangeline had learned, the place where the sixteen-year-old girl's life had ended but as she had been from the house with a snake as its mascot, it was the place her spirit had returned to. That common room was down here somewhere, she'd been told.

Something - the small blonde girl wasn't quite sure what - but something made her stop in her tracks suddenly. There was a low, dull thumping noise. Or maybe that was her heart beating so loudly she thought it was coming from outside her body.

"H-h-hello?" Her voice was barely above a whisper.

Remembering that she was supposed to be brave, Evangeline tried again.

"Hello! Is Emma Birch here?"

The sound of her own words bouncing back at her off the walls made her jump.

Gianna Galbreath, who had also heard about the tale of the ghost of Emma Birch which was supposed to be haunting the dungeons, made her way down the dimly lit dungeon corridor, her lit wand in front of her for extra illumination. While she had grown accustomed to the idea that ghosts actually lived and constantly floated around Hogwarts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the thought of the ghost of a young teenage girl doing the same thing creeped her out a bit. Nevertheless, she had accepted the dare thrown at her by her friends and so she had to see it through. The last thing Gianna wanted was to be thought of as a complete coward.

A sudden cry rang out from somewhere to Gianna's left--another first year student, possibly--and she whirled around, her wand lighting up a section of the corridor which didn't have any lights at all. Forgetting that she was supposed to be afraid of the dark, Gianna charged forward in search of the other student.

"Hello? Hello, where are you?" she called, coming to a corner and turning it, almost running into a small blonde girl. "Oh...oh, thank Merlin. Are you looking for Emma as well?" Without waiting for an answer, Gianna took the other student's hand and started leading her toward the stairs. "We need to get out of here. There's no ghost around, and it's getting late enough as it is. What house are you in?"

Thirty minutes later, after walking the girl back to her House, Gianna found herself in her own common room, staring at the fire and wondering how in the world she already managed to get herself into something so odd during the first week of school.

Hi Gianna, welcome to the site!

Your application looks good, there's just one small thing we'll need you to change before we can get you accepted.

In your RP sample, you write the following couple of paragraphs at the end:
Quote
Without waiting for an answer, Gianna took the other student's hand and started leading her toward the stairs.

Although Evangeline isn't a real character, for the purposes of the RP sample, we ask that you interact with Evangeline as if she were another player's character. In this part of your reply, you take her hand, begin leading her out of the dungeons, and then jump to thirty minutes later, all of which would count as powerplaying in a real thread, as you should only be controlling Gianna's actions and not assuming anybody else's.

If you could remove the section I quoted from your RP sample and leave your reply open on that final question, this would give Evangeline's 'player' a chance to respond, and would resolve the issue.

Once you've made the required change, please respost your entire revised application below, and we'll be more than happy to take another look. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me either via PM or via Discord (Yas#4887). Thanks!
