Application for Hogwarts School

Flanagan “Flanny” Moffet

10th of March 1937

Cerne Abbas, Dorset

Magical Strength (pick one):

Magical Weakness (pick one):

Year (pick two):
First or second

Flanny was born on a farm to a wizard mother and muggle father on the outskirts of the village of Cerne Abbas in Dorset. He was their first and only child, and was very loved. His father was especially fond of him as he took after him and spent as much time with Flanny as he could, teaching him about animals and farm life. He was also the one who taught him how to walk and he would praise his son to the other villagers.

The first sign of magic that Flanny displayed, was when he was three years old. He was feeding the hens along with his mother when one of them suddenly attacked him and all of a sudden all of the hens were floating in the air like oversized balloons. His mother quickly got them down again and embraced her son in joy, saying that he was going to Hogwarts. At the time he didn't know what Hogwarts was or that he was even a wizard, but his mother and father, whom knew about wizards and witches, explained it all to him, both very ecstatic and happy for him.

From then on, Flanny grew up in a world of both magic and muggles, and came to love both worlds equally. He worked on the farm with his parents and went to the nearby school, and although he didn't have many friends (he was a bit of weirdo) he was happy and felt loved.

House Request: Hufflepuff for the win!

Flanny is an incredibly kind and caring boy, not wishing harm to befall anyone, no matter who they might be. He is calm and quiet, preferring not to draw attention to himself. Around people he is shy and awkward, not entirely comfortable in the presence of a crowd or group, leading him to sometimes seek out solitary places were he can be alone with nature and animals. He prefers being with animals rather than humans, and he talks to them as if they really were people (in his mind they are.) When he talks to people he tends to stutter and often times says inappropriate things, and if Flanny gets nervous or embarrassed he begins to talk like a waterfall, completely out of control, and also becomes rather clumsy and inattentive.

He is not the bravest of people, but will stand up for what he believes in, or try to anyways. Justice and fairness is important to him, and he is always one to give people the benefit of the doubt. Flanny is very loyal to his friends and will always be there to support them, and give them a shoulder to cry on if needed. He is incredibly compassionate and emphatic, to the point were he might cry if he sees others sad. This empathy extends to animals and even fictitious people, as he can start crying when reading a book, watching a movie or even while listening to sad music.

Flanny, having grown up on a farm, isn't afraid to work and he is more than willing to sit for hours doing nothing but homework. He is tolerant of other people's opinions and will never try to force his own thoughts or beliefs on to anyone. Status, wealth or talent doesn't matter any to him, as it's the people themselves, their personalities and mindsets that are of value in his eyes. He doesn't care about blood status as pure-blood, half-blood and muggle-born are all the same in his eyes. They are all capable of using magic so as far as he is concerned there is no difference.

Flanny's favorite colors is yellow, green, orange and blue; his favorite season is autumn and he loves classical music as well as jazz. His favorite food is clementines and oranges, and he also really likes coffee. Flanny's favorite pastime is just being outside in the woods and taking long strolls; he also loves to be with the animals at his farm and can sit for hours in the barn with the cows, pigs and horses.

He is slightly tall for his age with large, red curls and dark brown eyes that look almost black. Flanny is a bit chubby as he has yet to lose all his baby fat, though some of his size can be attributed to muscle from farm work, but beyond that he is completely average. The clothes he wears are neither neat or crinkled, but something in between. In other words ordinary. Flanny is just absolutely ordinary.

Option 2:

Hogwarts was really crowded, uncomfortably so. Flanny wasn't used to so many people; it was almost suffocating. He hadn't thought there would be that many people at the school and had been thoroughly surprised when there was. To think there were so many wizards and witches just in Britain alone, and Hogwarts wasn't even the only school in the UK. It was...strangely wondrous. How many was there worldwide? Probably a lot. Thousands if not millions. Thinking about that, Flanny conceded that Hogwarts wasn't all that bad. A few hundred students didn't hold a candle to thousands. Still, that didn't mean it didn't make him uncomfortable nor did it mean that he didn't think Hogwarts was crowded. Because it was and it was all too much. He needed a break from it all.

That was why he now found himself in the practically empty gardens of Hogwarts. It was a beautiful place filled with hedges and flowers in every color, and it was practically enchanting. It reminded Flanny of home and the plains of grass and flowers that, when seen from the roof of the barn or the branch of a tree, seemed to stretch out to eternity and beyond. The thought of home sent a prick of longing and homesickness to him, and he felt that he really missed the farm and all the animals. Bertha should have given birth to her calf by now. He wondered if it was a boy or a girl. He couldn't find it a name before he did. Maybe he should send his mother an owl and ask.

A loud sneeze brought him out of his thoughts and he whipped his head around to see who on earth had done it. It was another boy, quite a few years older than Flanny himself by the looks of it, that had sneezed. He had snot running down his nose and he was wiping himself. There was a lot of snot, too much to be natural.

"Can I help you with something? It is not polite to stare," the boy spoke, sounding positively haughty, his nose plugged and voice strange. Flanny, not aware that he was staring, was completely taken aback and hurried himself to look away.

“I-uh-I am-I didn't m-mean to stare. S-sorry!” he said quickly, stuttering and turning red at the ears. “I-are you o-okay?” he slowly and tentatively walked over to the boy, pulling out a handkerchief from his pockets as he approached. “A-allergic?”
