Application for Hogwarts School

Name: Amelie Saunders

Birthday: June 6th

Hometown: North Shields, England

Magical Strength (pick one):

Magical Weakness (pick one):
Conjuring & Summoning

Year (pick two): six and seven

For the first five years of Amelie Noelle Saunders’ life she lived rather pleasantly. Born to a French mother and Scottish father in Nottingham, England, she was yet to feel the tribulations of a difficult childhood. This all changed when her parents separated, her father departing to North Shields with her older brother, and her mother taking her to Bournemouth of County Dorset. For the next several years Amelie faced the birth of two half-siblings and the chaos of perpetual moving evoked by near-poverty standards and an abusive step-father.

Amelie always had a very playful and encouraging nature that allowed her to survive through her childhood difficulties. When moments became rough she would hide underneath the blankets in her bedroom and read books, imagining herself in different worlds, whisking her away from her own chaos. She yearned for the day when she would be able to attend Hogwarts although she sometimes feared that her step-father would not allow her to go. Fortunately for Amelie, prior to her eleventh birthday, her father took her in to live with him and her brother in North Shields. For the first time in her life she was able to feel stability.

Not long following the move with her father Amelie experienced her eleventh birthday, a great celebration in her household. She was finally old enough to attend Hogwarts! Her first years at Hogwarts went swell, and despite struggling a bit with school (she has always been very easily distracted), she loved learning everything about her world. It was not difficult for her to make friends, although at times, especially during her fourth year, she experienced moments of isolation and anxiety. Amelie now embarks on the great adventure of overcoming her anxiety and trying to learn where she fits into the world.

Note: This section is optional, and is up to you to complete.

House Request: Ravenclaw or Gryffindor

Personality: Imaginative and playful, Amelie Saunders struggles with making decisions and can never sit still. The situations in her life have presented a case of anxiety and random bouts of depression at times, however, she has always been very optimistic. Amelie has the ability that allows others to open up to her; she is empathetic to a fault. Her voice is very quiet and many believe that she is very shy, although once she becomes comfortable enough around others, she is very friendly.

Appearance: Amelie is of a shorter stature, approximately 5 feet tall (1.5 meters). Her eyes are a medium green hue and in the right light can either appear darker blue or hazel. She has very light skin and ash blonde hair. During her times at Hogwarts she has perfected hair charms, and in recent months her normally ringlet curled hair has been straight. Amelie often wears a some sort of bracelet or bright color that allows her to stick out from the other students, she also makes the very important habit of never matching her socks!

Amelie heard the voice shouting at her as she strode along the corridor, vying for a moment of peace away from her housemates. She thought momentarily about hesitating and waiting for the owner of the voice to approach her, but she decided not to. Time alone was rare and she really wanted it. How difficult was that for anyone to understand? So, Amelie pretended as if she had not heard the voice as she continued walking, hearing her footsteps echoing along the stone floor.

Her past week had been chaotic and she barely wanted to think about it. The distraction of another human may help with her mood but she was feeling stubborn. It also did not help that her housemates appeared to have an innate desire to make her life miserable recently. Margaret Richards always had something to complain about, and this particular week it was the object of Amelie’s affection. Unfortunately for Amelie, Margaret was also a gossip. It was not long before the boy whom Amelie had her eye on learned about her feelings. The word embarrassing could not even begin to describe how she felt.

Much to the dismay of Amelie, the owner of the voice appeared to be running towards her, shouting something about the paper. Fantastic. The last thing she needed was for an interview on her tribulations! Was it really not possible to deal with the horrible feelings of unrequited love on her own? She attempted to speed up but the interviewer caught up before she could even decide to make her legs actually run, something that she was never very good at. The easiest thing would be to tell the girl who now stood by her side that she was not interested in being interviewed. But Amelie was never good at saying no.

“Err,” she began to mutter, tucking a strand of blonde hair behind her ears. The question was about frog legs. Frog legs. Apparently the Great Hall was serving them for dinner. If this was an actual item being presented for dinner, she had failed to realize it.

“I... no?” It was not her intention to sound rude and she immediately felt bad. For a few moments she fidgeted nervously, trying to think of how to respond. Being placed on the spot was never very easy for her. “Sorry, I mean, I’m a rather picky eater. I think it would be much easier to serve items that adolescents actually like to consume?” Amelie sighed and glanced at the girl. She looked familiar, but no name could come to mind. “Look, maybe it is better to interview someone else. I’m not having the greatest of days and any answer I give to you will probably sound atrociously stupid.”

Amelie did not realize that her response sounded ridiculous until after the words left her mouth. Another horrible habit of hers. But it was much too late now, she was again pulled into a situation that she did not want to be in. It would be so much easier to just be alone! But nobody seemed to understand that. Her green eyes glanced at the girl and frowned as she apologized yet again, “I’m so sorry. I hope you can find someone. Maybe try looking in the Courtyard? I heard there is some sort of chess tournament happening there.” Which was not untrue, a few of her housemates were participating in it, or at least hoping to get others to join in.
