Unblinking, grey eyes followed the pencil as it lightly traced across the page, flicking up briefly to track the progress of his subject. He paused, placing the pencil down on his pad as he leaned in closer, inspecting the antenna of the tiny black-dotted creature. The ladybird’s wings twitched and Xavier glared down at it as if daring it to leave. It was much easier to draw something that wasn’t able to fly away.
Six legs slowly crawled their way up the leaf and the blonde waited for it to come to a rest before edging away from the creature. In the distance he could hear some other students laughing and he willed them not to head in his direction. He hated when one of his drawings was interrupted and the sketch wasn’t far enough along that he’d be able to finish it later, at least not to a standard he was comfortable with.
From an early age he’d been a keen artist, but since the loss of his older brother he’d been picking up his pencils more and more frequently. He enjoyed being able to immerse himself in a drawing and pretend like everything was fine in the world. Henry’s death had changed the way he saw the war, he’d never imagined it would ever affect his family so seriously, always thought they were somehow except from having their world torn apart.
His family had always been a source of huge comfort in the past, but Henry’s passing had changed everything. There were so many questions he wanted to ask, so much uncertainty, but he had been forbidden for bringing it up. He could understand the reasons behind his parents’ austere words, however, he couldn’t help thinking they were just avoiding having to deal with the situation. Sooner or later Rosa would find out the truth and he didn’t feel comfortable withholding such important information from her.
It was as he thought of his sister’s ignorance on the matter that he realised the beetle had managed to depart without him even noticing. Everything would have been much easier if he didn’t know about it at all as well.
→ SAMPLE ROLEPLAY.
Short strides carried him without really having a destination in mind, not that it really mattered, anywhere would do. His body might have been in the corridor, but his mind was lost in the pages of the book grasped tightly in his hands. There was a beauty in how scribbles on a page could paint such a vivid picture. He wished he was capable of writing something so elegant; essays were more suited to his particular talents.
Once he found a scene he particularly liked he’d find a quiet corner and start sketching the picture that filled his head. For a while it would be his main focus whenever he opened up the notebook tucked securely in his bag. Xavier preferred to focus on one piece until it was perfected rather than drawing multiple pieces at once. He hated unfinished work.
A call from behind him rudely dragged him back to reality and managed to force his eyes briefly off the page. Deciding he’d rather not lose his place, he continued to walk as his eyes continued to dart back and forth across the pages in his hands.
The voice only continued to get closer with every irritating click and he folded the corner of the page as the girl caught him. Some people could be annoyingly persistent. “What do you think about serving frog legs at lunch? Some say it’s a delicacy, but others think it’s plain gross.”
“I think we should leave them to the French,” He replied monotonously, frustrated that people felt the need to bother him with such pointless questions. “Is that all?” → ABOUT YOU.
